My hometown and childhood home in Oregon burned down a very similar way on a insanely windy day in September 2020. I’ve been living in Colorado for almost two years and I am devastated that the same thing happened here. I lost my three cats in the oregon fire and I just wanted to say my heart goes out to everyone who lost pets yesterday. I am still not okay to this day about losing my entire childhood items/pictures/belongings and most importantly my three family members. Don’t listen to the people who say “it’s just things, at least you’re alive”, they don’t get it. If anybody needs support or someone to listen I’m here. You really don’t know how it feels until it happens to you.💔💔💔

Hi John, as horrifying as the video is, Im thankful so many could use it as a resource. I had planned to do the entire area until the airspace became restricted. I can not say enough about the evacuation plan and implementation by local authorities. They should be awarded for their efforts and it should be taught to other disaster prone communities. I also hope they learned the impacts of limiting media and information after the fact. So many people were distressed from not knowing.

Usually we hear about fires like this destroying mountain communities, houses further apart amongst trees. This is the first time I know of where this happened in a suburban-type area. I'm doubtful anything could have stopped the fire the way it was going, unless the buildings were made of metal and surrounded by hundreds of feet of pavement. My mom was thinking of airplanes stored in hangars at the nearby Rocky Mountain Metro airport, which are in metal buildings surrounded by hundreds of feet of pavement, so that's probably really the only thing that is safe. Maybe dense urban areas of mostly brick or concrete buildings and very little trees or grass would be safe, but I wouldn't count on that.

The way that house stands out among the complete destruction in the surrounding neighborhood reminded me of situations where a few buildings survived virtually unscathed (or with less damage relative to the surrounding structures) despite being directly in the path of a destructive tornado... different mechanism, though.
