  • This is my review of the MSI CreatorPro Z17 A12UMST-097 17" QHD - the maxed out model! This portable workstation laptop is the stuff portable PC gaming and work platform are made of, with an Intel 12900 i9 processor clocked up to 5ghz, and the Nvidia A5500 with 16GB of VRAM, and 64GB of DDR5 memory along with a 1tb SSD, not to mention the 17" IPS LCD with 165hz refresh rate and Microsoft SteelSeries RGB keyboard. The MSI CreatorPro Z17 has it all, including a hefty price tag of $4499!

$4500. Holy smokin'-bottoms. I'm sure it's awesome but I'd have to plan a moon landing to justify it.

Just want to add a little context. If you are looking at this and competitors with these specs from let’s say HP, which costs $9700. This is a great device. For the price and the time it would save for the engineers, it looks like a bargain in the grand scheme of things.

@Sanath N This is definitely a con with this laptop. The battery life isn't the longest, even with minimal browsing. When I do need to use this laptop on the go with no access to a power supply, I tend to use super battery settings and make my screen brightness as dim as I can where it's still usable. Additionally, I turn off the RGB for the keyboard to prolong the battery. This is definitely a laptop to use plugging in if you can.

Great informative video but please show more of the laptop in your videos. I would really like to see and get an overall view about build quality, ports, display etc in detail. Thank u for the video.

Does Asus have a current equivalent in their ProArt line? If yes, it might make for a good comparison.
Love how they managed to keep this looking understated for all the power it has! If I had that kind of money I'd love to get one! That battery life though! Even in a dream scenario where I magically had one, the power rationing we are going through right now would make it a really expensive paper weight real quick.

@@JetBlackJester When our power company can't keep up with demand through environmental limitations, maintenance or mismanagement, they ration out the supply. Parts of the grid are cut off on a schedule nation wide, recently as long 18hrs.

This is an almost perfect laptop. Almost because I don't know why don't they put a full size keyboard instead of leaving so much space at the side. They could easily gie regulary size numpad and also put in delet end and pGD keys in between. It would fit easily. I dont' why they keep the extra large keys for the alphatbets and keep the numpad keys smaller and there is not much space. It can easily be regular sized and have all the keys.
I wish it had 2 ethernet ports that support upto 10/2.5/1GBPS then it would be perfect. It would actually be a desktop replacement with 2 ethernet ports that can loadbalance and/or failover. So we can connect two routers to it.
It has a touch screen so there is nothing else needed except the above two. It also has 2 thunderbold ports. I wish it had 2 HDMI ports to cause as a workstation I would like to connect atleast 4 screens to it.

Hey, thanks for the review! I recently bought the MSI Creator Z17 HX Studio A14VGT model and was absolutely excited at first. But then I noticed very subtle horizontal grey lines across the display, mostly visible against a white or light background. They are primarily noticeable when you place your face very close to the monitor. Have you spotted those lines too? I can’t imagine working on light-colored graphics and being constantly annoyed by the gray lines.

I bought the A13VGT-065US model a year ago and it had a bunch of problems out of the box including the sound making popping noises, the MSI pen options dialog continually popping up, and the screen requiring too much pressure to draw on.
I still needed it for work so delayed sending it in for repair until the wifi recently inexplicably stopped functioning.
However now it's in repair they are looking to replace the whole device with the latest model rather than exchange the motherboard for a new one.
I found that the MSI Pen i was given worked fine on screens by other manufacturers, and that the Surface Pen had similar issues on my laptop screen - leading me to think it might be a hardware issue with the sensitivity of the screen on the laptop. The issue was that it required too much pressure to draw a line - more than other laptops do - and the result was that it was very hard to draw thin or faint lines without breaks in them, or thicker lines that had consistent widths.
Did you have issues drawing on the screen with yours? I wondered if I had just been unlucky with my specific machine, if there was a driver issue, or if it was a widespread manufacturing defect for this model?
I wondered if they might have fixed it with the A14VGT.
If the screen on the newer model that you have works fine then this is good news.

I paid $5k for the top-of-the-line MSI Creator Z17 and it has been absolute garbage. I'm sick to my stomach. The components are power-throttled due to poor cooling efficiency, so it might as well have half the specs. 6 weeks after the warranty expired the nVME went out. $400 to replace and it took 2 months because they messed up the first time. Now just a few weeks later one of the fans is going out. Avoid MSI at all costs please don't make my mistake.
