What a brilliant treat to be able to watch footage from this long ago.
Some of the tackling on this clip makes a mockery of the commonly-accepted impression that tackles are getting harder and stronger these days. Brian Lima wouldn't last five minutes against some of these boys!

I don't buy the argument that the US wasn't good because only 3 nations competed. The US beat France 17-3 in Paris. A year later the All Blacks beat France 30-6. I think it's fair to say the US back then would have competed with the southern hemisphere better than they can today. This was before Babe Ruth made baseball legendary, before pro football gained traction and long before the NBA. Rugby was a bigger part of college sports back then and some of those Olympic players were also ex-pats.

But also the USA rugby team for this olympics game was compound by an american football team and not rugby
@@adrichoux Explain. American football had not fully taken off across the country. It only just professionalized in 1920, made up of teams only in the northeast and didn't stabilize until the 1930s. It also didn't reach the popularity it has today until after WWII. Meanwhile, the west coast was where rugby was strong back then, with San Francisco being the hub. If anything aided the US team back then it was the high number of expats on the team. At least today, anyway, American football players do not crossover well and usually make bad to average rugby players.

That's Stanford Basketball captain, Lefty Rogers. He broke his nose during a warm-up game in England. Even so, Lefty tackled the fastest man in rugby and French star, Adolphe Jaureguy, shockingly hard during the gold medal game. The tackle essentially started a riot in the stands.

they werent dominant back then lol only 3 teams played in those games lol and nz and the islands didnt play in those olympics. infact none of the southern hem teams played in those games and barely any european teams played in those games. so no they werent dominant and those medals count for absolutely shite as it wasn't the best teams in the world in those games
