i just love the way you present, missing the memy videos !! but after subscribing to your channel I was inundated with so many similar channels !! @@plantsinjars will share the list.
I've watched this video probably 6x over the last 6 months but it's by far my favorite of yours. The flash drive, the dip n dots, everything in here is peak TC comedy and content ❤
I'm a houseplant, terrarium and aquarium enthusiast, and I love how terrestrial TC plants are babied and carefully acclimated, but aquarium TC plants are literally opened, rinsed a bit, and just sort of stuffed directly into the aquarium with little to no fussing about. I've "deflasked" dozens and dozens of aquatic species over the years, but have yet to do it with houseplants or terrarium plants. Considering my taste for fancy aroids, gesneriads, and orchids though, I'm super glad I found this video, as in vitro plants are much more affordable, and rapidly becoming more available, to hobby growers.
The science procedures and explanations are very clear and interesting. I laughed out loud several times throughout. Your videos have the comfortable feel of the old Bill Nye the Science Guy shows, except that you're way funnier and much better looking.
Thank you for doing this content. I ran into your videos a month or so ago and in that time Iv gotten into home mycology, so Iv got 90% of the items to do this already. You have inspired me to give this a whole hearted attempt and start/create a plant tissue culture journey. Thank you. Looking forward to more of your content!
Your videos made me realize how important hygiene and sterilization is. I've crafted the same 'still air box' but instead of tissue culture , I sterilize soil in the microwave and do my cuttings in a clean and sterile environment. First time I've tried that , 8/12 of my plants succeeded (didn't rot) and grew roots etc. I've made a huge mistake with removing the lit for a whole day, just to find out most of them died out, but it doesn't really matter, it was just an experiment and it worked! So far it works best with softwood cuttings. Also, keep up the good work , its really nice that you are chasing what you love and I admire that!
I've t wanted to try tissu culture but thought it was too expensive and complex. Because of your videos I am neglecting my entire familly to get a jump start on my tissu culture adventures! lol
This was very helpful. Thank you! I bought a bunch of cultures when shopping for plants for my dart frog enclosure, and I didn’t know where to start. I’ll try to master this and then I can move on to growing something more expensive, like a spiritus sancti
Love this channel, glad to see an acclimatization video from you. Even happier it appears my two week old first try is off to a pretty perfect start. Looking forward to getting my own TC setup started with the help from your >$200 video. Thank you!!
There's some pushback against substrates like Fluval Stratum in the aquarium community. The thinking goes that it doesn't do anything special for aquatic plants, and similar calcined clay media like kitty litter or oil absorbent work just as well and cost less than $10/giant bag. A trip to the auto parts store for some Oil Dri or Tractor Supply Company for Safe T Sorb might make for an interesting head-to-head comparison. It could also obviate the need for perlite. For kitty litter, any non-clump and un-scented natural clay version should work as well as the oil absorbents.
I purchased 12 jars of Musa Florida and Musa Nono tissue culture but all of them died 😔. However, I'm not giving up. This time, will try your method and see how it goes. I think my 1st mistake was using a container that did not maintain any humidity at all. 2ndly I kept on opening the cover every 2 to 3 days for healthy check, and somtimes adding more water to the planting media.
So I am not sure if you are interested, but it would be cool to see a version of this for Aquatic plants. As I mentioned in my last message to you, the Aquarium hobby is VERY big into Tissue culture plants as it provides a guaranteed pest free way to bring plants into your aquarium, compared to the other cheaper methods (Plants grown in ponds and lakes, or other aquariums) which often come with snails, planaria and leaches, AND if grown by a commercial grower dragonfly/mayfly larvae. However we don't actually do anything that could be considered acclimating. Standard procedure (as you can tell from a quick google) is to remove the plant from the Media, rinse off as much media as possible and then plant in the aquarium substrate (either Gravel, sand or aqua soil) or attach to the rock if its a Rheophyte or Lithophytes, of either a filled aquarium, or if you are more patient a dry start tank. The former method is WELL known to lead to slow growth initially, as the plant needs to adapt to both being underwater AND out of media at the same time. (Meanwhile the Drystart is similar to what you do here, but less sterile.) Actually TBH, I am curious if its possible to culture in such a way that its already acclimated to being under water. You have mentioned in other videos using a liquid media instead of the solid media used in most Aquarium culture setups. Although that might decrease growth rate.
I'm sooooo happy I found your video! I'm about to purchase my tissue culture plants from the same site and was totally lost as to what my next steps would be! Alright, you convinced me to go ahead and do it! 😂
Hello, Laur. Thank you so much for this excellent content! It gives me a lot of "food for thought" for an upcoming career change application. I'm new to your channel and tissue culture, in general. I'm curious to know if you have heard of any DIYers successfully growing large timber bamboo from tissue culture and, if so, do you think I could be successful using your affordable plastic storage bin hack that you've detailed on some of your other videos? Thank you and keep up the great work!
Question re the Wilt Stop. The active in this is Pinene. From what i have been advised is Pinene in the incorrect dosage can block the plants completely from transpiration. This is potentially also dangerous. Wouldn't a silica based mono-silica acid be a better option to address wilting and other stresses for the tissue culture plants? there are other benefits to the silica in this form i'm just wandering if this isn't a better and safer option as it also protects plants immune system? Your thoughts would be appreciated
This is PERFECT timing, I literally checked your channel yesterday because I was looking for videos on this as I just received my first TC plants. Also, I would a video on how to properly dispose of TC medium. Like if you want to save the jar, where do you get rid of the medium? I’m assuming the hormones and things are a bit of hazard so it can’t just be thrown away right?
This is such a informational video!!! Wish me luck with my very first attempt acclimate some alocasias 🤞🙈🌿. I'm wandering if we can use deionized water instead of distilled and still have success...
i love your content and straightforward explanation. I do have one question...do you need to place your TC on a heating mat? what if I don't have any lights to place them under, where is the best place to place them?
Hi. Hoping you’ll answer - I have deflasked some drosera yesterday and was wondering if I can leave them in 100% humidity for 2 months [im travelling in and out of the city at the one month mark, so would rather do the acclimation process after I’m back properly]
Subscribed to your IG and filling out an application for a date. Thanks for the inspiration I hope to try propagating aquatic plants, strawberry and fruit trees.
So I'm one of the dummies who bought a tissue culture from Epcot. It's only around 3 months old right now, so I think I have a bit before I need to remove it? But it's so pretty and it's growing so happily that I'm terrified of taking it out and killing it. 😭 I guess I'll be doing all the research in the next several months, to strengthen my chances!
Those kits are so cute! I need to look for them next time I go. You could take it out if you wanted :) the steps in the video should work for dragon fruit
I would love to start doing this. I have the passion and love for unique and rare plants. My home is a jungle. Did you go to any schooling to learn all of this? Please teach me Sensei.
Do you use Miracle Grow Perlite? I know you said that you want to feed them later and that they are delicate when it comes to fertilizer burn. I'm just wondering if your babies are truly ok with Miracle Grow?
I have a few questions… I use Professor Monstera Method, do you think it will work for TC? I dont want to burn out my plants with the fertilizers.. But I love how they’re tailored to monstera so i’m hoping i can keep them. Except the medium would be cocoperlite.. I can list the fertilizers if needed also can i use 100% fluval stratum? If i cant use PMM that is..
I love your channel and all the interesting and educating content that you provide and the simple and down to earth and approachable style you employ! I'm a big fan, even though I bumped into your channel recently. I tried to look for your insta profile that you mentioned but can't seem to find it. I would love to follow your work there as well.
Hi! Thank you for sharing, I bought a Burle Marx flame TC & nervous about acclimation. Would you be able to use hydrogen peroxide instead of buying an antifungal agent?
Hello I was wondering if there is a way to un stunt the growth? One put out a new leaf, but after that it's been at a stand still for the past couple months. Should I grow it in water instead?
loved the video, I always learn so much! One question at 8:26 you mention against removing the humidity dome unless the plant needs terrarium like conditions and show a picture of a Sarracenia (pitcher plant) but that genus is entirely north American based and to my knowledge is recommended for outdoor growing not a terrarium? If it was the unrelated Sun Pitchers from South America Heliamphora then I'd understand because they live in high elevations. Idk I feel like there's a lot of misinformation out there that all carnivores plants are tropical and need terrarium care, and while there's a few genera that do, most like the Venus flytrap (native to N. Carolina) don't
The steps would be the same! Taking plants out of the BioCoupler is actually a little easier because you don't have to deal with solid media sticking to the roots
wait a min , is tissue culture plants that weak ? how that it die easily ? and there lacking of miniature african violet in the market , i cant find any locally

How long did you wait to deflask the plants after you recieved them? I just received my TC order from Orange lake and I think they recommend 1-2 days for an acclimation period but I just was wondering what you did? Thanks, LOVE Plants in Jars!
I told Orange Lake Nursery you mentioned them, and I had to message them about an order I received. They said they'd check it out. So if they reach out to you, hook a guy up with a syngonium 😂

Bell siphons work just fine and is better for the plants (unless the setup drown them) than coating the plants to stop evaporation.
