I've watched a lot of videos with your Dad, and been so impressed with his knowledge and skill. He must be incredibly proud of you and the way you show the same care, attention and quality of output that he did. Great work. Thank you for showing the world how this sort of work should be done.
For the rebar you can do 4 verts as support bars, then tie the horizontals to them and drop whole thing in to hole. That avoids tying all that rebar down in the hole and guarantees nothing shifts around when concrete is placed.
I had my sidewalk from the driveway to the front door stamped and colored to complement the house color. Really looks sharp even a couple of years later. Now here is something you would never do in the southern US. I live in Minnesota where we have winter. My asphalt driveway with a slope faces south and the sun melts the snow left over after shoveling while concrete driveways remain icey. My concrete contractor's driveway is concrete colored black and remains ice free. That will be my driveway when the asphalt needs to be replaced. Yeah it gets hot in the summer but it sure beats a broken hip or a cracked skull from a fall on the ice.
Just a thought on reducing the pain of building the suspended rebar trellis for the stair footers; why not set it up outside of the hole and then lower it down into the footer pit when it's ready? You could hang it from a work horse (or anything) while building it.
I always felt that the broom finish is pretty standard. Done right, it's acceptable of course, but my favorite finish is a rolled slate with some color and sealer. Concrete with the Hauses posted just such a job earlier today. Sometimes you want standard concrete... and you want it to look like standard concrete. Other times you want to get fancy and make it look like it's NOT made of concrete... and some people can really pull this off. You and your Dad included.
Crazy to add drains when a slope to side yard then to the front seems like it would have worked. City requirement? Tacos De Cansta in OC? I only see them in LA El Monte area. What did lunch cost?
Great job everybody. 🌮🌮🤤 I love 🧹 finish. How do you make sure you maintain the slope on that center drain after bull floating it? Doesnt floating it kind of level it back out? 🤔
Truly enjoy watching the family business videos! You all have incredible knowledge and skill in all aspects of construction 😮😅 ✊. I had one question re the white drain pipes running from the retaining wall. You don’t have to bed the pipe in a small thin gravel!? Or lime rock CA7 like we do in New Zealand 🇳🇿. It’s to prevent any sharp rock or objects damaging the pipes if they move for any reason. I noticed to you just back fill with the dirt
Wouldn't it have been a bit easier to build the rebar structure outside of the hole tie it tot he wooden plank and then nail it in ? saves leaning into the hole to try and do it
Yes build a grid outside with 2 or 3 90 degree going up 3 inches below concrete level but they did an awesome job regardless let's appreciate what they did right not focus on what they didn't.
To me, all stamping looks "dated" and hokey and puddles and dirt pool and eventually looks mostly crappy within a year. The nicest look of concrete is a planned, well drained, almost dry after a rain, broomed concrete with polished edges all around, including all cut joints. Maybe it looks sort of "industrial" and not for everybody, but me likey-likey every time I install it or I see it anywhere. 😇
This is a question that l see everyone doing when they start to float. Why in a dead rush to run the float as soon as possible even when the rodded concrete is super wet. Any answer is welcomed. I understand when slab is large area but my finishers leave it so humpy cause it's to wet
I might have missed something, why didn't u pour the footings with the slab poured inunason and why didn't u just give patio inch and half fall straight out, maybe put a long drain on outside of the slab , why have drain in middle of slab ,could block up and have a pool.nice work.
Hey, wait a sec ... did their pour bury the hidden hatch to the underground fallout shelter ? Shan's really gonna hit the fit when they find out. J/K 😉
I'm curious, if either of you guys have/will have kids, do you plan to have them go into concrete with you like your dad did with you? Regarding finishes: I lived at a place with an exposed pebble aggregate finish. I didn't like it because it was rough on my feet. I like to be barefoot outside. And it was kind of difficult to clean because dirt and moss really caught in it. I wonder if the stamped concrete is that way too? It seems like the sand finish might be the nicest to walk on. Otherwise I'd just keep it plain.
@@OdellCompleteConcrete thank you ! as in depends on the job is there a standard for a radius commercial vs residential? Is most stuff in California 1/2? Thanks I’m curious it’s not like that here in the east

I like the concrete broom finished with picture frame borders
Nice touch
I loved the stamped concrete you all did on the crabby woman's house.😊😊
Creamy concrete and fresh tacos, life is good. Broom finish in general.
Just what we need, more concrete.
Bingo
It's really coming together. Tight pour for sure - turned out great!

My favorite is colored exposed aggregate, 2nd is broom finish we use a horse hair broom though leaves a nice fine broom finish.
Love the way you lift the reinforcement mesh, only step step on it so it does nothing at all!

Yeah I hear that. I do like to do decorative concrete more though. Like stamped with color and two tone effects
Stamp concrete doesn't look good for long , continually sealing .

For newer place, broom finish seems most appropriate. However, for older homes (like my 1948 bungalow), sand wash finish seems period correct.
(IMHO)
Sand wash is trending

Simple is always best
How much does a job like this cost?
Awesome. When you connect concrete to the stucco house, does it cover the "weep screen" ?
Thanks!
No
5:04 why wouldn’t you measure, tie off and suspend above the ground, THEN place the timber down and lower the tied rebar into the ground.

@@OdellCompleteConcrete also broom finish for the win
Floating rebar for stairs is like wearing a hazmat suit when you grill. Completely unnecessary 😂😂
Yeah I agree xD these engineers love to go above and beyond
Pricing from tools and batteries seems to be similar to pricing for printers and ink cartridges
Should do the rebar forms outside and then put them in
Yes
Curious what a job like this would cost? Seems like a lot of work for a diy guy
I know a lot more is going on at this house but how much would getting just a patio + side path like this be?
5500
Do you need to water down the concrete for more than 5 days to help the curing process
The more the merrier
Why didn't you install a compression joint between patio and house?
OSS
the finish of the concrete, for me it depends on the application of said slab, and where the slab is located
Perfect
Can you do work in Murrieta? Tried asking through your website, never got a response.

Do you need rebar for a 4 inch concrete patio?
It's optional
Nice Work Bossman! Who do you know how much rebar you need if you have like 1100 sq ft to pour on ??
Square times two
@@OdellCompleteConcrete preciate it for all the knowledge, so you are saying 1100 sq. Times 2 so I should get 2200 ft of 3/8 rebar?
Question
.... What is the point of those few footers u poured...?
For the stairs in part 5
So is it for reinforcing the overall slab? Since its beneath the slab from what i can tell
Let's just concrete over the Earth 😢

I was thinking the exact same thing and 1 second later I see your question!!
What kind of Groover ? What radius do you use ??
Depends on the job but this one was 1/2 inch
