I love the advice about breaking up a pour in sections. I'm 60, working alone on a project doing 5' x 5' sections. I figure the cold joints can be control joints 🙂
The most important thing is having reinforcement in both sections if the ground is bad, or tree roots about, or it may heave in time. You see this in curbing where reinforcing is rarely used.
hint = put hand mix first then top off with truck avoid color shrink, durability issues, 40 yrs experience best have truck left over than see big visual change ugh lol
I wish I could get you guys out to Cincinnati to do my driveway and sidewalks. I've been trying to get a concrete company to show up since October last year. Contractors don't seem to want to earn my money !!
Can you do a walkway that crooked from the house? What’s the best way to make sure you are still square with the house from house I know in part 4 you was doing a pop quiz but that seemed from the backyard of the house, this walkway is more on the side of the house ! Awesome videos man ! Father and Son ! Love seeing it y’all the best !!!!
Concrete expands and contracts with the temperature cycle day/night and summer/winter etc. so the joints are to encourage it to crack in those locations, where it has been purposely weakened a bit. Ideally it cracks right straight down the joint down deep, and it's not even really visible, and you don't get futher cracking in other locations. Concrete kind of does it's own thing sometimes, and cracks can form in odd places, even with expansion or joints.
i'm surprised that you don't have one of those machines to tie the rebar together rather than doing it by hand unless you do and didn't use it this time around? thanks
Here's something I never understood: Why not make your own chairs by making a 1 1/2 inch slab and cutting it with a trowel edge? Then bring those on pour day and spend 15 minutes or 20 while waiting for the concrete to get there just lifting with a three foot pry bar and sliding then under joints? Quick under, lever up, slide in chair, drop the lever back, repeat as needed.
@@OdellCompleteConcrete thank God..I was wondering because I'm seeing you and your brother video that's how I learned about you guys.loved the video bro keep up the Odell good work.👍💯😲
Why do you guys not put sleeves underneath your slabs. It makes it easy for future access for wires or for irrigation pipes. The cost of 20' of 4" pipe is not that much, plus 1 man hour. Without the sleave boring and a lot of digging can be expensive.
They're probably contracted to provide the yardage ordered and need to re-fill and get to the next scheduled job/s, not be your personal mixing facility. 😄 This is where a portable mixer on a trailer could be useful though, versus doing it by hand.
@@VenturiLife Yeah but I mean they will not really spend much extra time on site if you do that. Pump one yard out and add one yard in) buy a guy a bear if you need to)) Throwing bags in adding some water whyle the mixer is 80% full shoul not take more tha 10 nim extra. If that. Who knows, might work? Get a more consistent mix this way.

The Captain is hand mixing and he hates it. Respect. Your troops will follow where you lead. Nice. You're a good boss.

You guys are artists. Excellent job.
Makin it look easy as usual! Great job team Odell 💕🤙
Ty
Thanks for the video Tim. Didn't think this property would ever be done
Yeah it’s coming along 👍
Good idea on the bags, but I would’ve put those bags at the bottom and scoop a little from the truck mix so when cured you don’t get different looks.
Good morning from Auckland, New Zealand. 🙂🙂🙂

Looks really nice 👍 Especially compared to the city sidewalk
😍
Yeah I agree
Good leaders do heavy lifting too. I would’ve mixed as well. Tim’s are great leaders. I’m really enjoying the series. Thanks

Wish you guys were local I can’t even find someone to do my outside steps that leads to the lake

Can't wait to see the entire job finished!

Interesting
Usually happens when you ask companies that look to make $20,00 sadly. Should be a small hood company for you out there

Haha 😂 hopefully he won’t be to mad
lol, I love you guys, thanks for all the great content and the occasional reply :)
Watch out for the 🩴 !! Lol
50% nylon 50% horse hair broom line has a separate fan base 😂
I’m a framer carpenter and I always wondered why do cement have joints ? Sidewalks

Your concrete always looks so good and creamy. What is your favorite mix?
3250psi big rock no ash
Excelente trabajo saludos 👌👍

Love your videos, watch them all the time. The head cam makes me dizzy though, anyway thank you
Noted!
How is the home owner planning to keep the dirt off the wall on high side?
What type of gravel is best for pathway, 2b or 1b?
great video😃👍. Do you guys specialize more with concrete? or do other hardscapes such as DG or permeable surfaces. thanks
A little bit of everything
It looks like the dirt grade is much higher than sidewalk and patio alongside neighbor’s property. Are there going to be more retaining walls?
That would be nice
Just a question, with the elevation drop at the property line, any concerns from the building department as far as liability on the safety "factor"?
No worries
Ty 4 all info… bro
Any time!

thanks
There super expensive
Is there a retarder in the concrete as your weather is hot 🔥??
Nice job as always 👏 👍
No
I’ve heard some people say you have to wet your concrete for a few days after you pour it, but others say the complete opposite. Any advice?
Wet is better
Ever tried using a hoe to mix in the barrow? So much easier than a shovel! I promise.
I like a trenching shovel
Ho fo sho! 😂 Just did some in the wheelbarrow today with one
That's a good idea...

What happened to Odell? Retirement?
Basically
Nice, how much did this project cost?
5500
Umm where's the gravel for your base ?
In the concrete.
Stronger that way
I have big forearms, but not from concrete finishing 😉
How about your palms? 🤔

Is it common that you guys don’t lay 3inches of base rock ??
Yes

Wasn’t part of the plan.
It is code here, and it is only a $ 100 or so add-on.

Why doesn’t your dad make anymore videos
We have a video with him coming out soon
I pay tens of thousands of dollars for concrete work and I see you hand mixing box store bags to finish the job I would lose my effing mind.
The premixed bags are better quality, then the dirty bulk products.
0 quality control
@@OdellCompleteConcrete oh. That sounds reasonable. Maybe a case of the nonprofessional not understanding what they are looking at.
Next time throw your bags of concrete in to the mixer.... Much easyer.
