Reactors are confused by this film? Imagine how we were in the early 70's when Monty Python first came on. Until then it was all "My wife's so fat..." and Mother-in-law jokes. We all watched it in stunned silence - then laughed about and recited our favourite lines at school and work (including our olds...). Still do to this day!

The lines will come back to you in ordinary conversation. Wait until the right situation happens and you say, “I’m not dead yet. I’m feeling much better.” Or, “I fart in your general direction.” And whoever you’re talking to says, “Come back here, you coward. I’ll bite your kneecap.” And you’ll know you’ve met a comrade in comedy that’s a deeper connection than you expected.

They could only afford 1 horse and it was a rental, that seen where the historian gets killed and the cops are investigating the crime. Hell, the whole reason the cops showed up at the end to arrest Arthur was because they literally ran out of money in the budget so the ending was a LITERAL cop out.🤣

The story of the horses is always told but the rest of the story is that no one knew how to ride a horse and they lacked the time and budget for them to learn. As far as the end goes, again they didn’t have the budget for a big battle to end the movie. There was nothing to tell you it was the end because the people in charge of the credits were fired at the beginning. They couldn’t get studio financing so they rounded up what they could. They got eight investors including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin Ian Anderson, a couple of record companies and a cricket team they had some association with. The next movie,”The Life of Brian” was easier to finance but they still had George Harrison mortgage his house for some of the money.

My parents moved to England when I was 10, in 1970. Four of the five years I lived there just happened to be the Monty Python years, at an impressionable time in my childhood.
That was a long-winded way of saying that the ending made perfect sense to me. Python is one of England's greatest contributions to mankind; as an Englishman, you should be very proud. Great reaction, young man.
I would suggest "Life of Brian" next. It had a bigger budget and a more cohesive plot.

For us oldsters, we watched their TV show and were very acquainted with their brand of surreal, silly and yet brilliant humor. I remember the first time I saw them. It was midnight and my jaw dropped. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or be appalled. But I was fascinated. Soon my friends and I were imitating their gags. After their TV show ended, this movie showed up in our local theater. It was packed. I had no idea that others were into this zany humor. It was a great time.

So Monty Python were a sketch comedy group and had a TV show (Monty Python's Flying Curcus) prior to this, their first feature film. The 3 main guys playing 90% of the roles in this (John Cleese, Eric Idle, Graham Chapman, Michael Palin and Terry Jones) originally wrote a series of vaguely King Arthur themed skits which were then worked into a loose narrative. The sixth member of the group was Terry Gilliam who does all the animation work and plays the odd side character here and there. Both Terry's directed Holy Grail on a shoestring budget. Every castle exterior and interior you see are actually all the same castle shot from different angles.
If you want to see more you should just do the films in order. Life of Brian is the next one and is an absolute classic (with a bigger budget and slightly more coherent plot)

Thoroughly enjoyed this reaction! You were so confused at the beginning!!!!!! Everything was silly on the surface, but just beneath the Pythons showed their intelligence and education. Their TV show, Flying Circus, often had sketches ending with police arresting the players. One even carried on with a cop arresting the first arresting officer, then another arresting the second, then an arm came into the doorframe... And the topics and plots of those sketches were fantastic and absurd, very much worth delving into.
Not only were the actors seriously selling their parts, I continue to delight in the costumes, props, set work, and cinematography. If they set their minds to a straight drama or documentary it would have been outstanding.

The actors were also the writers, designers, animator, and directors, as well as almost every one of the characters with lines to speak (exceptions: Famous Historian Frank and his PA, the surprised guard who didn't get killed at the gate to Swamp Castle, a few of the wedding guests, some of the ladies at Castle Anthrax, the cops, the guy who didn't want to go on the cart, and the old lady who resisted the Ni treatment, plus a couple of notable guests connected to the troupe - Connie Booth as the witch, Neil Innes (music credit) as Sir Robin's lead minstrel, and Carol Cleveland as Zoot/Dingo). These are the Pythons, creators of the absurdist sketch comedy show Monty Python's Flying Circus, and they did all their movies exactly the same way they did their sketches on the tv show - i.e. they did it all themselves. They truly were geniuses.

At the time this would have made more sense, if that makes any sense, as things like the credits being in an odd place, incongruous music, fourth wall breaking and sketches having no punchlines were all part of normal service. They have inspired several generations that followed.
Incidentally almost all six of them became national institutions individually since (or died, in one case).

A great high-school memory was watching this in history class with one of my favorite/craziest teachers. It was the last day before Christmas break and he said we could watch this movie at some point. He walked in the room a few min before class started and saw there were still students from the previous class watching the end of Love Actually. I shit you not he got irritated, expressed his dislike for the film and just walked right back outside of the classroom.
He didn't come back for nearly 10min, well into the start of the class. It was only 6 of us in that class, and going by what he said a few weeks ago I decided to start streaming that movie on the smartboard before he got back. He finally walked back in and said something to the effect of "now this is more like it". Absolute craziest thing about it is that his aunt played as an extra in this movie, which he confirmed for us after we brought up seeing his last name in the credits.

Deciding to just experience what is presented instead of 'figuring it out' was the best decision.
Once you remember that Galahad's full name was Galahad the Pure you realise he was the only one that could have gotten through Castle Anthrax safely.
Yeah, it's all budgetary. They had no backers. That's the same castle every time. Just shot from different directions. No money for real horses. Not much film left on the cutting room floor. Using the same actors in multiple roles, budget. The 'cop out' at the end was where the money was gone.
Their next film, 'The life of Brian' has a much larger budget. The money made from this and some outside cash. I believe John Lennon invested a large sun in it.

I love all the Python movies and shows before and after Monty. However, I'm going to go offside a wee bit and recommend, "A Fish Called Wanda".

Great recommendation! Not very far offside, as there are 2 Pythons in it.

Im here for that look of confusion and uncertainty that every reactor has when watching the ending of this movie.

What end credits? You saw the credits first thing in the movie.

Old movies used to put _all_ the credits at the beginning.
And because they were all sacked, there was nobody left to put up a “The End” screen.
