I had the Axel F theme in my head this morning, and then I find that Dawn Marie was reacting to Beverly Hills Cop today? That must mean that Dawn has telepathy powers over her audience members! **puts on tinfoil hat**
@@imwiththeunderhills2128 Oooooo... it isn't Dawn Marie telepathically putting movie songs in our minds then... 💔 It's Eddie Murphy doing it! I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'll just have to roll with it to see what happens!
No, the song is not from Family Guy, it’s called Axel F, (the name of Murpheys character) and was composed for this movie specifically, in 1984. The following year it was number 1 in the U.S.and won a Grammy. I can’t emphasize this enough, the song was made for this film, and only this film by Harold Faltermeyer, a German composer and “keyboard wizard”.
@@AlmightyCRJ it’s not from there, it was made for Beverly Hills Cop only. The ONLY reason others have used the song is because it was the number one soundtrack in 1985, and people use that song to represent the 80s, nothing to do with the movie.
@@CChissel ...I never said it did come from there. I pointed out those brands use it a lot, which is unusual as to use someone's Leitmotif for anything.
I like how the whole time you were always suspicious of minor characters like Jenny and the police lieutenant! lol They were never in on anything. This movie wasn't about twists. It was just a straight up fish-out-of-water cop comedy action movie to showcase Eddie Murphy's comedic genius and screen presence. This was a star vehicle for Murphy and the plot was really secondary. A lot of the humor comes from the minor characters' subtle reactions to his antics as much as Murphy's comedy. Additionally, it showcased comedy actors Damon Wayans (the hotel buffet guy) and Bronson Pinchot (Serge) in scene-stealing cameo roles.
Glad you enjoyed this - Part 2 is amazing as well, please check that out soon! Then pretend 3 doesn't exist. I hear a part 4 is in the works. And yes, the "Axel Foley" song is great and I learned to play that on a keyboard because of this.
That tough Detroit police inspector who chewed Axel out really was a tough Detroit police inspector. He said that in his real-life work, he didn't swear at people and seldom yelled. But he was definitely *in command*. He was later on Detroit's city council and stood for election for mayor of the city, but didn't win. Detroit's population has shrunk from 2 million to 600,000 since 1967, when the worst race riot of the 1960s took place. It was the only one that required the Army to be called in, and it took them two days to get it under control. Ineffectual state and local governments, along with the auto industry which doesn't give a shit, have exacerbated all the city's problems. Beverly Hills continues to grow richer.
John Ashton, the cop who punched Eddie in the stomach, he plays a bounty hunter along-side Robert De Niro and Charles Grodin. That's a very good movie that very few people have ever reacted to.
True. It was also directed by Martin Breast. Midnight Run is exceptional. It's equally as good as BHC, and imo, a lot better than BHC 2. It's just as funny as BHC (Grodin, Pantaliano and Ashton really crack me up), and if anything it might even have more soul. The scene where De Niro visits his ex wife and sees his daughter for the first time in a long time is so well played, so awkward. The ending is also poignant, and I'll expect it to be even more so now that Charles Grodin has passed away.
Great reaction, Dawn. The theme of this film is by Harold Faltermeyer and it's called 'Axel F' after Eddie Murphy's character in this. Yes, there are sequels to this film all of which are great too.
The music in this movie has some really good bass. Hearing it in theatres with great speakers was a treat. Must have seen this 1/2 dozen times the year it came out.
Dawn, most of the location work in Robocop was actually in Dallas or in Pennsylvania while the Detroit locations in this film were actually in Detroit so there probably aren't any duplication of locations between the 2 films.
A new and finale one is soon to be released in theatres. Eddie Murphy has : Coming To America - LIFE - Dolemite Is My Name - SHREK movies - Morbit - The Nutty Professor - Dr. Dolittle - Bowfinger - Boomerang - 48 Hrs 1&2 - The Golden Child - Best Defense - Trading Places - Harlem Nights. And also stand up just to name a few 👌
Beverley Hills Cop 2 is really worth the watch too, directed by Ridley Scott's sadly departed brother Tony Scott. I was raised in a Baptist Christian home with one family TV and VHS player. When I was 12 I somehow talked my mum into buying this for me for Christmas and the whole family sat down to watch it. Detroit City was decimated by two things: segregation and the collapse of the motor industry. All the low rent factory workers lived by the factories and once they closed the city fell into degradation, and eventually declared bankruptcy. There are miles and miles of houses that look like something out of an apocalypse movie. Drugs, unemployment and violence are rampant. Police, education and social services are underpaid and overworked. Yet like most American cities, there are still the rich white commercial districts which are doing well.
It's pretty hilarious that this movie being so straight forward without the plot twists that Hollywood had cranked out after this movie is the ultimate plot twist for Dawn, "The plot twist is the lack of plot twist". And yes, this along with a bunch of other movies make for a nice warm "white noise" in the background.
Thanks Dawn for watching this movie not too long after watching Robocop. So Ronnie Cox helped out Beverly Hills Cop, then he tried destroying Robocop... I’m kinda surprised he had absolutely nothing to do with Kindergarten Cop.
When eddie walks by and laughs at the two guys in leather jumpsuits.. they were the outfits eddie wore on each of his two stand up specials (or similar atleast) so he's laughing at himself
Naw, he laughs because those are Michael Jackson outfits. He wore a red leather jacket in Delirious, but that TV special came out while they were filming this movie, so it wasn’t even a thing.
LOL "This is from Family Guy!" Sorry. Look it up, the song is called "Axel F" (for Murphy's character) by Harold Faltermeyer. Ah, now I feel old.... :)
The thing I love about this movie is that the writers didn't feel any need to "surprise" us with having Axel's friends or any of the cops turn out to be bad guys. Straight up good guys vs. bad guys with some fun action and lots of comedy. I wish writers could write like this today but they almost never do.
You can thank the fabulous Pointer Sisters for the "Neutron Dance" tune during the truck/police car chase and the" Axel F "theme composed by German musician Hans Hugo Harold Faltermeier. Of course, Family Guy would use in a cut away LOL! Also Axel's boss Inspector Todd ( portrayed by the late Gilbert Hill ) was an actual police inspector and later commander for the Detroit police department.
When I was younger, there used to be this bar where a big crew of us hung out, on weekends. My name is Phillip. This one friend of mine named Joe, every time he saw me...."Phil! Phil... it's me!..."
Great reaction! You'll be pleased to know there are another 2 films, the next one is almost as good, 3 is worth a watch, but not as good as the first two. I've loved this film since i saw it as a kid in the 80s, it's my 5th favourite film.
48 Hrs. is the film that launched Eddie Murphy"s film career, and it's a really good movie too. Of course he got his real start on Saturday Night Live.
This was the first movie we watched after getting a VCR. We'd seen it in the theater, but the VCR thing makes it just a little more fun for me. The second one was just about as good, with a much more involved plot. The third one, not so much. Another one similar to this was Murphy's first real movie was called 48 Hrs. It has a plot I think you'll really like. It also has a sequel called Another 48 Hours. This came out after Trading Places, which was his second movie. Following the success of Beverly Hills Cop and the sequels, he moved more into true comedies and tried for a signing career. The acting went well.
16:51 comment question,, it's a sparkling water also mineral water or carbonated water, people who go to a dance club usually are required to buy at least one drink, and might not want to get drunk, also soda water, it is available to add carbonation or bubbles to other beverages so it is available in such places. HTH[EMJ]--hope this helps.-Ernie Moore Jr.
Eddie had trouble keeping his face straight when talking to Bronson Pinchot (the odd foreign guy in the art shop). You can see him almost breaking a few times. And when Eddie was doing the supercop story, the actor playing Taggart was breaking and had to look down and pinch his nose to try to hide it. This movie looks like it was a blast to shoot. And yeah - very simple story, no plot twists or mysteries. Just a straight forward buddy-ish cop comedy. Another movie from the same era you should check out is Fletch, with Chevy Chase. Almost the same kind of character as Axel - a fast talking chameleon, but this time he's an investigative reporter.
When he laughs at the 2 guys in leather suits in the street... Double funny since he used to do stand-up in such or similar suits (or maybe his was a jumpsuit, but very much in the style)
There's two more of these. Definitely see the second one, but you can probably skip the third one. You should also check out Eddie Murphy and Nick Nolte in "48Hrs" and it's sequel "Another 48Hrs".
Hi Dawn Marie!🙂You're funny!😄You can travel to any state in the United States without restrctions. 39 years ago Detroit was known as one of the biggest states for automotive building plants. When the plants shut down it had a harsh impact on the state, with many workers losing their jobs. Many areas still have the remains of automotive plants and have never bounced back. Beverly Hills hasn't really changed. It is just more modern. Eddie Murphy was laughing at the two people in the red and black leather outfits, because he wore the same thing for a comedy special in the 80's. The title theme for the movie is called "Axel F", named after his character Axel Foley. While "Beverly Hills Cop II" (1987) is not as good as the original, it is still enjoyable. The 3rd film was not as good.
26:34 It's actually pretty easy to miss when shooting from the hip. IRL most people would keep the gun in their shoulder when they're expecting to shoot but shooting from the hip looks more dramatic so you see it a fair bit in films/etc particularly older 80s/etc ones.
Detroit has its issues like any big city, but it's had some gentrification and civil engineering over the last 10 years that have made it a very different place. quite beautiful architecture, and a comfortable place to walk around in midtown or downtown.
"She's involved/the police are in on it/the Captain's in on it/Don't trust him!" Wow, you were suspicious of everyone for this reaction! I'm surprised you didn't accuse Serge as well...😁
The catchy theme song is called "Axel F" and is by Harold Faltermeyer. Because of Beverly Hills Cop it is so well known, that it is used in other media production, such as the Crazy Frog as well.
The Theme song is called Axel F, cool huh? And did you notice who the strong arm body guard of the villain is? That's Mike f4om Better Call Saul and Mike from Breaking Bad.
Eddie had a plan for his character and himself to get boosted in movies, stand-ups, and on SNL(as Buckwheat). That went almost to the 90s... then he went more family-like, and it still works
I can't believe Dawn figured out Kaiser Sosei in "The Usual Suspects" in the first half hour of the movie, but missed entirely that the Lieutenant was honest and exactly what he appeared to be in this movie. Also, the tune attributed to Family Guy was written for this movie and the Axel character and is titled "Axel F".
Dawn as a cop would be hilarious. She would just be accusing everyone of being in on it, even her colleagues. It would actually make a funny comedy character in a movie
when i went to SoCal for a vacation, i stopped in at beverly hills to check out some sights, and ended up having a couple of cops using my head as a basketball, and dribbling it on the hood of their cruiser. they did this because i got mouthy when they stopped me because i "didn't look right".
Gilbert Hill, who plays Murphy's cop boss, was a real Detroit MI cop of high rank. the instrumental song you were singing along with was a big hit record that year.
fun fact dawn marie the actor who played the guy who gave axel the banannas was damon waynes who's oldeer brother keenan ivory waynes is eddie murphy's best friend since they grew up together in new york . keenan and damon are the older brothers of shawn and marlon waynes who did white chicks and the 1st 3 scary movies
8:37 I just recently found out that the reason Eddie Murphy laughs in the scene is because the two guys that were walking towards him were wearing outfits similar to what he wore in one of his stand up comedy routines. He did not know they would wear those clothes so his reaction wasn’t scripted.
You were told wrong. He laughed, on script, because those were Michael Jackson outfits. His comedy special outfit was red leather, but nothing like that.
11:05 I didn't realise this was the theme tune... The musical score of this 1984 movie was composed by Harald Faltermeyer (who did a lot of 80s films), and was named Axel F. Axel F, the dance track, was performed by dance act, Clock, in 1995, before then being covered again as the Crazy Frog ringtone...

It's Eddie Murphy doing it! I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'll just have to roll with it to see what happens!
"Axel F" was the main theme on those Beverly Hills Cop movies. Harold Faltermayr did the Soundtrack. He is Austrian.
Family Guy does play it a lot. As does Crazy Frog.
@@AlmightyCRJ And the reason they use the “leitmotif” so much is because it’s associated with the 80s, not so much this movie.
I've never heard laughter as awesome as dawn Marie laughs with the Beverly hills cop 1 movie in 1984. U love her laughter
Glad you enjoyed this - Part 2 is amazing as well, please check that out soon! Then pretend 3 doesn't exist. I hear a part 4 is in the works. And yes, the "Axel Foley" song is great and I learned to play that on a keyboard because of this.
LOVE THAT TRILOGY! All of them were and STILL ARE GREAT!
I thoroughly enjoyed your reaction Dawn. I hope you feel better soon.
I hope you feel better soon. That was so much fun watching you react.
You will definitely enjoy Beverly Hills Cop 2!!
I watch this at home on dvd with 2 subwoover system connected on my tv right and left side.
Its just like when you are in theater for it
Dawn, most of the location work in Robocop was actually in Dallas or in Pennsylvania while the Detroit locations in this film were actually in Detroit so there probably aren't any duplication of locations between the 2 films.
I can’t believe Dawn Marie only has 38k followers
One of the classic 80s cop movies. If you liked this, you really should watch the Lethal Weapon series. I think you'll love those.
Hi Dawn, yeah there's a Beverley Hills Cop 2 (1987) and I recommended it to be reacted to for the channel :)
Eddie says it himself in his episode of comedians in cars getting coffee
@@thatliamsmith I stand to be corrected but those are def. MJ outfits.
@@thatliamsmith en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_jacket
LOL "This is from Family Guy!" Sorry. Look it up, the song is called "Axel F" (for Murphy's character) by Harold Faltermeyer. Ah, now I feel old.... :)
The thing I love about this movie is that the writers didn't feel any need to "surprise" us with having Axel's friends or any of the cops turn out to be bad guys.
Straight up good guys vs. bad guys with some fun action and lots of comedy.
I wish writers could write like this today but they almost never do.
You are 100 percent my favorite reaction channel on UA-cam ! Ty for the wonderful content.
Classic film, with a great score by Harold Faltermeyer.
Great reaction! You'll be pleased to know there are another 2 films, the next one is almost as good, 3 is worth a watch, but not as good as the first two. I've loved this film since i saw it as a kid in the 80s, it's my 5th favourite film.
Her accent is awesome I love just hearing her talk and I know that's why we're all still here
48 Hrs. is the film that launched Eddie Murphy"s film career, and it's a really good movie too.
That was Damon Wayans' first on screen appearance as the Banana Man
He's a Detroit cop.. went to LA tracking down the killer of his friend in Detroit.
Great reaction. You're funny. Yes there is 2 and 3.
Fletch. F, Fletch.
Dawn Marie, I love your laugh. It's contagious
Club soda is basically carbonated water. Its like soda with no sugar or flavor.
You'd also probably enjoy 48 Hrs. from this same era. A somewhat darker cop buddy film that really made Eddy Murphy as a movie star.
the theme tune you like is called axle F (as in Axle Foley the character in the film), another great Eddie Murphy film is 'the golden child'
I've been to Beverly hills once. I drove through there in my old rusted, dented panel work van. I got pulled over 3 times in 5 miles.
I'm surprised you didn't accuse Serge as well...😁
Great reaction to an iconic movie -- and your laugh is absolutely priceless! Keep 'em coming.
The catchy theme song is called "Axel F" and is by Harold Faltermeyer. Because of Beverly Hills Cop it is so well known, that it is used in other media production, such as the Crazy Frog as well.
"No way you can pick a lock of a house that's that size". Now I want to see Dawn reacting to a a Lock Picking Lawyer video.
I still laugh like that🤦♂️
I love this era of Eddy.
The Theme song is called Axel F, cool huh? And did you notice who the strong arm body guard of the villain is? That's Mike f4om Better Call Saul and Mike from Breaking Bad.
I really love the way how you enjoy your movies. Glad I've found you channel! :)
3:29 "Why is the lights on the top of the police car so _big?"_
That's what they looked like, in the '80's.
8:58 This guy was in the hilarious sitcom Perfect Strangers that ran for at least 8 years I think.
Eddie had a plan for his character and himself to get boosted in movies, stand-ups, and on SNL(as Buckwheat). That went almost to the 90s... then he went more family-like, and it still works
‘They are gonna work together, I knew it’ 10 minutes earlier ‘I think they are in on it’ 😂😂😁
"This is from Family Guy!"
Aww bless 😂 I also chuckled at the "watch me broken in tonight" 😉 That's what she said...
I just realized that the bad guy's henchman is Mike from Breaking Bad
I can't believe Dawn figured out Kaiser Sosei in "The Usual Suspects" in the first half hour of the movie, but missed entirely that the Lieutenant was honest and exactly what he appeared to be in this movie. Also, the tune attributed to Family Guy was written for this movie and the Axel character and is titled "Axel F".
The musical score is actually called 'axel foley' it was huge on the billboards when it came out. The entire soundtrack was...😊
Only just realized that victors henchmen is mike from breaking bad
You did notice that was Damon Wayans at the buffet, you take those bananas
After watching Beverly Hills Cop 2 other notable Murphy movies are 48 Hours, Harlem Nights, Trading Places, Coming to America, and The Golden Child.
The 80s movies like this were the best!! Excellent reaction. Yes there is a Beverly Hills Cop 2
14:01 -- Most futurey song ever! I bet people back then thought this is what music from the year 2000 would be like!
Beverly Hills Cop 2 is definitely the highlight of the series you will like it more.
