Kyo's vocal range is officially listed at 5 octaves and a semitone, but live he's hit as low as G1 and as high as G#7. He also hit a disputed B#8 once. That would put him as having possibly the biggest vocal range ever, defeating Mike Patton by almost an octave.
Kyo (vocalist) is only 152cm tall... but when he's on stage, he's 304cm. I've been lucky enough to see this song live, and it blew me away...the power that comes out of this man is insane. Like others have said, his vocal range is insane. Dir en Grey, there's no other band like them. If you ever have a chance, you must see them live, it's an experience that will stay with you forever. I do not say this lightly. I'm 61, and have been going to concerts since I was 14. No band...and I mean NO band, has ever impacted me the way Dir en Grey has. I've seen hundreds of bands live... this is the only band that makes me want to headbang, and cry at the same time. I'm so devoted and impressed by this band, I have a Dir en Grey tattoo! Please check the band out further. Any of the live performances from the Arche album are much like this one. You will not be disappointed.
@@queenmandel5208 yeah, can confirm - he's definitely around 160, Im 160 and he was pretty much the same heigh as me when I saw him, definitely not 152
Thank you Thank you Thank you to the patrion who made this happen! The members are: guitar (on the left from viewers perspective): Kaoru guitar (on the right...): Die vocals: Kyo bass: Toshiya drums: Shinya It's Dir en grey btw. not gray. They are celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and just released a new album in June called Phalaris. Kyo continually works on mastering new vocal techniques and each of their albums has a unique sound. This song comes from their 2008 record UROBOROS [probably their most progressive sounding album]. Some albums have more, some less harsh vocals [the new one has very few!] but they are never placed without thought and deliver meaning within the individual songs. I would recommend the ballad Vanitas for a next reaction [but I will leave that to your Patrions]. If you look up Kayaちゃんねる or perixreloaded, they do fantastic translation videos for Dir en grey [and sukekiyo - Kyo's second band, more experimental]. Both use videos of live performances, so they are really perfect for reaction videos! Have a great time discovering more from them! :)
Ayy man ty so much for the reaction. Dir En Grey always experiment with new sounds every album. They started out as more pop/rock and went heavier and heavier with each album.
All band members are top world class musicians mainly the drummer Shinya and bassist Toshiya and lead vocal Kyo has actually 46y and still being one of the best world metal vocalist, his vocal range is incredible!
Obviously everyone's a world class musician by virtue of being in an internationally renowned touring act, but in terms of instrumental proficiency, none of them are close to the top of their profession. Great compositions for sure, but they're out-virtuoso'd by countless acts.
So glad to see the band on your channel! (Found you originally for your avenged sevenfold reactions, am also a huge avenged fan!) Youre right this song is about the atomic bombs being dropped - the lyrics don't specifically reference it, but the best interpretation I've found is it asks the question "what kind of people are we that others would think we must be killed like this?" I think you'd really enjoy more of their ballads, like Glass Skin or Vanitas (definitely live versions) - their style ranges pretty broadly from Really heavy stuff to some beautiful ballads. Thanks again man!
Kyo is the lyricist of the band ever since they started in 1997. Kyo tends to use lots of metaphorical lyrics. We may think this song is about the atomic bombing, but in actuality, it is about how wars are caused by those in power, and they will not take responsibility for their actions. I highly recommend you to watch this clip but with the English lyrics on the video. When you may hear screams or growls in reality Kyo, is saying something. I recommend the next live: The World of Mercy live. if not, give it a listen to the original track.
Thank you for the reaction. It was nice to see someone listen to them for the first time 😊 They have a really beautiful and interesting discography that will keep you on your toes. If you have the time I would suggest listening to their latest album _Phalaris_ which is softer in a way, quite spiritual at parts but also includes some real bangers. I think you would like that one. And I would recommend sukekiyo. Seeing your reaction during that one part between the two fast sections makes me think you would appreciate their softer songs from Immortalis very much ("Elisabeth Addict", "In All Weathers", "Aftermath", "Kugui" and so on).
You should check the "Zakuro" song from the Kaya channel if you like the songs of Dir en Grey who has so much feeling. You will get goosebumps all over your body.
to undestand the performance at his best, i deeply suggest to see the Music Video to appreciate all the details, Dir en Grey is a top band with a very unpopular music, but a really great musicians and very criticism style, only for mature people
I don't understand why this guy is surprised. Dir En Grey is a group with professional musicians who have been making quality music for over 10 years. The soloist has another project called Sukekiyo. I recommend listening.
Always check their live performances (many have english subs), their MV's are disguisting, sound is overproduced and they loose all their amazing raw emotion they have on stage.
They are always best experienced live but actually only the original UROBOROS release was slightly overproduced (which is why it's the only album that got remastered later. They were on a tight schedule to release back in 2008 and had to, even though they weren't satisfied. It's one of Dir en grey's trademarks that the production is as minimalistic in its alterations as possible. I think what you might be talking about are vocal layering and additional instruments which are sometimes missing during live performances if they don't use a backing track or a simplified one. And of course, Kyo sounds more passionate and less clean while performing which I prefer as well)

B#8? don't you mean C8?

Beware, once you uderstand the power of Dir en Grey and Kyo there's no turning back.
Such a powerful song plus the imagery and stage presence. The band is also fantastic.

Epic AF🤘🏻
Funny that in the beginning of the video it showed Dir en Grey's logo. And just below that it's spelled DIR EN GRAY. Is it on purpose?
