He's a self taught vocalist with no professional training.
And you didn't really hear him at his lowest growl, or his highest.
It goes even higher with the scream. Way higher.
I am so delighted to see Dir en grey back on your channel again! there's not a lot of musically authoritative discussions on the technical/more complex side of Kyo's voice, and while I had some classical training in high school, I only know just enough to know how much I don't know, lol! This will always be one of my favourite performances by the band - between the absolute insanity of "Dive, Like Hell, And Destroy" (jesus the mic was still so far from his mouth and he was still so Loud) and the crowd connection... It's always a Lot of fun. They're a really, really dark band, and this is only the tip of that iceberg. For more of his incredibly heavy vocals, a song like Different Sense, or if you want an overwhelmingly emotional performance - Zakuro.
Couldn't say it better. ❤
Thank you for reacting to Dir en Grey on your stream! If you haven't already, I hope you consider reacting to the live version of Vinushka...it's truly a stunning performance. One of Dir en Grey's absolute best.
Ya there's that one particular live version of Vinusha that is a much watch. imo its one of the most impressive rock performances I've ever seen. it's godly. Kyo is amazing in it.
If you know, you know. The androgynos version covers an insane range for him, with a combination of a song that's ALL emotion and him being in a healthy comfortable place it's the sweet spot of Dir en Grey lives
残 isn't the title of the song in the video
In vinushka live the video by androgynous you can see many of Kyo's voices, from the highest pitch to the lowest growl.
I don't know, if you are aware this song has an original video and it came out on the movie Saw 3D
The title of this song is "Intensity and the scorching darkness entwined in this chest"
↑正解!!!!ありがとうございます!!!
Hey man! its not 残(Zan) actually, its 激しさとこの胸の中で絡み付いた灼熱の闇(Hageshisa to Konomuneno naka de Karamitsuita Shakunetsu no Yami)
Best metal vocalist
If you want to listen lows and highs, you should give Vinushka (live) a try. It's one of his best songs vocally.
Sukekiyo - kisses is one you need to react to. His vocal range is shown so well in that performance.
In terms of Kyo's extreme singing exertion, he mentioned he consciously chose to use his voice to the full until it gives out on him. That 'shine brightest when he can and go with a bam' attitude is just very Japan.
Yay, more Diru!
But yeah Kyo can do insane pig squeals. He has gotten better at vocal health in the later years for sure
Seeing them live was always a goal of mine that I finally got to do. It was a very emotional and visceral experience that I will never forget.
you should listen to Kyo actually singing. Like without the growling and stuff, cuz his voice is actually an amazing singing voice. "Sugizo Zessai ft. Kyo" could be a great example.
They're all so fricken musically talented and good looking
That’s a really great reaction 👏🏻
Love love love Diru! I'd say that Mike Patton has that vocal range and ability.
As someone who's been toa show at every one of their US tours, YES. It's a religious experience, especially if you're there because they mean a whole lot to your heart. Ive been to him at his peak and at his most damaged and it doesn't matter. It's a hypnotic, cultish experience. With no offense intended each time was a religious experience. I came out very quiet and very introspective each time.
Dir en Grey song, Vinushka live androgynous are more complex than this one. Thanks Coach, your explanation so insightful for me.
I've seen them live almost every time they come to the US and it's just like this incredibly hollowing but filling experience. It's like entering another world
Dir En Grey for life 🤘🔥
"screamo metal" I cringed when he said that
Thanks for the reaction, Dir en grey are amazing!
You HAVE TO LISTEN TO VINUSHKA by Dir En Grey!!!
Dude Kyo is beyond powerful in terms of vocals. My man can move the ocean like poseidon. If you wanna hear him go full animal I would check out obscure or something like mazohyst of decadence.
Have you done Galneryus yet? If you haven't you should try Angel of Salvation (Live) or The Force of Courage (Live) if you haven't. My personal favorite is Brutal Spiral of Emotions by them.
One Song - Vinshuka (Eng sub) Live HD. Epic. You're welcome.
With all my love to Kyo and Dir en Grey it's important to say that you don't have to damage your voice or be athletic to express immense pain and suffering in metal.
You should react to Dir en Grey 'Vinushka' and then to 'Home back' by Jinjer - both songs are absolutely amazing, both are about war, both can leave you in tears and in a very dark place, but with Jinjer I don't need to worry about Tatiana's voice, because she can go hard without destroying her vocal cords. I'm with Kyo and his dedication to give his all and to bring these raw emotions no matter what, but there are severe consequences (this dedication almost killed him, when he fainted on stage and he was hospitalised), but it breaks my heart.
Anyway, thank you for reacting to Dir en Grey - they are amazing, but most of the reactors don't get them and also don't want to dive deeper, so I appreciate it.
If you thought they're only capable of dark music you should listen the Symphonic Version of Lotus. It is absolutely beautiful. You wanna hear higher notes from Kyo? He sings very high notes on that song and it sounds gorgeous.
I only know 2 other males singers who are able to do this extreme high screech, Dani Filth of Cradle of Filth and Mike Patton of Mr. Bungle. As a female singer, I find this kind of scream close to impossible to imitate, not sure is that a male falsetto thing or not. Dani and Kyo both have lean and high voices, but Mike Patton's is just regular dude voice.
Definitely gotta check out Beyond Deviation and Nylist then
@@brendangibson8200 Thanks for the recommendation bro. These two bands nailed the same sound too. I am still curious about the mechanism though. Also waiting to see if any female vocalist getting it, and how.
@@shenghanwang6342 you're welcome! I'm sure there's other people out there that can do it, male and female. It's still not an incredibly known technique, but it seems to be growing in popularity, so maybe in the coming years we'll start to see more bands incorporate it
4:53: Was that a LOTR reference? If so, it's an apt description of Kyo's fury. Now I can't unsee it.
Oh, I laughed hard when you mentioned Uruk-hai. I mean, yeah, I totally get why you said that. Just that Kyo is 160cm tall (5'3"?) so it's just hilarious ;)
He is not Kiyo, he is Kyō.
not Ki Yo, he is Kyo.
The consonant is KY, vowel is Ō.
j-glide, appreciate the tip!
So for the people now discovering dir en grey - here's my personal recomendation - try to find the live version of Shokubeni - ua-cam.com/video/Mvwud4riomY/v-deo.html
Love your reaction on the coolest band I ever seen.
What can you expect from a painless singer who was obsessed to hurting himself even on the stage😅
He didn't really care about himself nor his throat, he only care about the art passion and the process, so the emotion can passed through the crowds.
あれ、このとき残だったっけ??って残かと思って聞いてたらハゲ闇で草
This is more the old dir en grey. The Kyo I fell in love with when I was 16 :'DD
He used to injure himself scarily many times but always healed to sound even greater. Something he must be doing right tho since he has been doing this close to 30 years and I've seen artist burn their cords lot shorter time periods.
If he wants to he can make everything sound super easy but he is always been about living the music and being bodily in it, kinda like Maynard Keenan when he preforms with Tool
algo de X Japan?
In regards to 9:30 .. as to who can go deep and high? Noah Sebastian from Bad Omens.
🤘
Not quite the song to enter the diru universe! You already have to be a part of the family!
Please react to Vinushka live subbed and Macabre subbed
Please educate yourself about „Screaming“. You can scream, shout, growl all without hurting your voice. Listen to some deathcore Bands like lorna shore, infant anihilator and so on. Kyo is one of the best if not the best bcs he can sing clean. So you should Check out the live Version of vinushka to hear his full range. Much love and respect from Germany✌️😊
Everything they make is experimental. This song being so on the nose deathcore is experimental to them because thats not something they usually do. The first song came out well before his side project. He goes through every range of emotion and voal style in dir en grey homie. Welcome to it
Please make a Reaction to the Dir en Grey Song "Vinushka". You will be impressed like hell. Check out the live version from the Kaya channel. It's English subbed.
