It is my all time favorite metal album. A masterpiece, indeed. The musicianship is obviously top notch, but the production is equally top notch. Just a fantastic album all around. Flawless.
Phil writes about pain and anger a lot. And love of friends and family. Metalheads get it. It's an expression of emotion, is all. It fits with the genre because we all experience those emotions. Phil and Dime are good at emoting through lyrics and sounds.
This song hits me really hard. This song is almost word for word what happened to my best friend. He loved this song. I still go through every emotion at the end of this song. Miss you every day Josh
I will pile on, their approach and how they discuss with each other without speaking at us is soooo refreshing!!! Favorite go to for their discussion and their eclectic musical choices.
I always felt the angst of the situation with them going from the grief into the anger translated both in the lyrical content as well as musically. The chromatic descent of the guitar part leading into the heavy riff is the turning point in the emotion
9:07 That was a beautiful interpretation. I really, really liked that. Adapt this song to just vocal/piano would be incredible. Bring even more tears and emotion to the table of this legendary song.
Great reaction guys! This song acually makes me cry sometimes when I listen to it and think of people I've lost who passed away. The more aggresive section and ending is acually the part where I tear up because I know that kind of anger, its not go f yourself type of anger its deep unresolved pain screaming within. They just so happened to let it out instead of keeping the anger of being subjected to such a thing as death within and they opened that wound to let it bleed on this track.
This song to me is just about the different emotions one may go thru when losing a friend and the realization of that loss…. If that makes any sense. Anger frustration beauty all tied up in one interpretation.. prolly my fav Pantera song!! That’s just me
Hey guys hope you’re having a great day 🙂. That review was excellent! And Judson’s piano version immediately afterwards was absolutely amazing! 😮 I would love to see a full piano version of him covering this song but with his own interpretation or however he would like to do it, just like he did here. It really was incredible I’ve never heard it that way before and I liked it a lot. I actually think Dime and Vinnie would have loved that Judson ! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
There's also "We'll Meet Again" from their first album with Phil; it was their father Jerry Abbott's favourite song of theirs apparently and has one of Dime's best solos.
Love your videos! You guys are the Yin and Yang to music. I would love to see a video on Whitechapel's "Hickory Creek," even to their acoustic version of the song.
@@paidguitaryou missed the point of the comment entirely lol. Trout was conveying that Dime sang with his guitar, which he did, and in that respect he was one of the greatest metal “vocalists” of all time.
"Shedding Skin" would be the great quiet/heavy song to explore next, it's also one of the songs that sticks the most in my head from my fav Pantera album, Far Beyond Driven, and there's 2 guitar solos that do not seem to interfere with the deep cryptic lyrics. An idea for another Slayer song would be "At Dawn They Sleep" or "Divine Intervention", since they are both 2 very long, very well written songs, with a load of build up to them, plus Tom's bass actually is in the mix in At Dawn They Sleep (he would come back later in Diabolus and GHUA). Those would be great songs to present how Slayer could if they wanted be a tech trash band, I'm aware you guys will never say do "Reborn" or "Hate Worldwide" lol. I remember Jetson liking Tom's vocals too, which was neat and surprising. Those are my suggestions for now, I'd have one for Anthrax but I'll wait until later. I'm enjoying this experiment very much!
I'm glad I found this channel. Such a cool idea to go through metal songs from a classical perspective. For some reason it brought me back to the musical/theater discussions Frasier and his brother Niles would have on the TV show "Frasier". And also your discussion feels very real. Best wishes from Iran.
It is the hate for losing a friend in the end. Frustrated on god or how you want to interpret it. So the beginning is more like him thinking back and also dealing with the pain. Great lyrics.
Dime really sings and emotes through his Guitar in this one. [Edit] Whoa, I thought that was a green screen but from the sound it's an actual Auditorium. lmao Add another Piano and set to the list. haha
Great take! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I'm not sure why but at around 10m in the sound stopped working so I might have missed something. Metal with inspiring/positive lyrics? Hatebreed. Major scales, positive vibes and full of emotions? Devin Townsend
The skill of Dime is a two side coin... technical I guess he was great but the way he can get emotions through the guitar is amazing!!! Cementay Gate is an nice one to listen to...
I think he was telling the story of his best friend killing himself… or losing him in general, and still being so close to his friend that he is so close with his mom cause they are naturally close together
Good one. How about something right off the wall, I suggest Cattle Decapitation, could be something from Death Atlas, the title song, or Bring Back The Plague. Or Scourge Of The Offspring, from Terrasite. So much to be digested in those songs, the production is stellar, I would love to see what Judson thinks/reaction..I think he can take it!
Love these vids man, excellent! A minor critique - I would have switched around left and right microphones if I where u, so confusing when Richard speaks and the voice comes from the right, and vice versa. :)
Sorry about that. We got a new camera that our mics connect directly to and didn’t realize this would happen until after we recorded the videos. Should have it fixed in the future.
I like you're reactions😃👍 Keep up the good work👏 Can you guys react to a band called Wardruna feat Aurora with the song Helvegen "live" please!!!! Greetings from Norway🇧🇻
Hi from a French guy in Paris, I've been following you for a while and I'd like to suggest you react to nine inch nail, we're in together. A track that has both power and sweetness ... See you soon
Yall are such beautiful dorks. Awesome reaction as always. Love your content. Not one of my favorite Pantera songs. Sounds exactly like Metallica to me on just this song. Maybe I'm wrong. Keep it up guys
Would you include bands like faith no more and living colour? They changed the trash era to a groove new metal pace . Thanks, super interesting reactions from someone that knows what he's doing
btw, you in that Suffocation T-shirt, what is your friend playing at the intro, is that Debussy? "Clair de lune"? I, as an old metalhead, confirm this. 🤘 And he claims that metal and classical music have more in common than one might think. ❤ sorry, I wrote before listening to your video 😛
It's sad at first, he talks to the mom and misses his friend. When he's angry at god and feeling anger, it gets aggressive. Just seems like a natural progression of grieving.
Did Mr. J somehow miss the whole point of the song going from the feeling of grief to the total feeling of anger!? Hence the music became heavy to match the emotion of the lyrics.. 🤔
I think "the sleep" would be super cool to look at, Ive always found it to be a stand out in Cowboys from Hell and the solo is just incredible.
Yes, The Sleep! Definitely. Also 10's is kinda a mellower song if they are going through those
Great idea 👍
One of my favorite Dime solos, for sure. The Sleep is a perfect song.
I concur with all of the above.
Agreed
This whole album is their masterpiece in my opinion, all killer, no filler.
Probably, but Cowboys from Hells fights hard for that spot.
Vulgar Display of Power is the crunchiest album ever made ill stand on that to my grave
@@hidralyskxtremoSCVulgar is better

Yes!! Beautifully put. They poured their hearts out in everything they did. Pantera got me through some really rough times. They still do.
True. This was always one of my favourite songs by them because of its emotion and crationdo of rage towards the end.
Definitely emoting on the want to beat the 💩 outta one particular piece of 💩...😂
@@mattadoan-6436 Rage is an emotion. Coming across loud n clear. 😀

That interpretation immediately after the song was AMAZING!!! Really mind blowing 🤯
Well done Mr. J🤘🏻💥🔥🙏🏻
Would love to see Judson's renditions of these songs. He has a unique ability to feel the music and carry that same energy while he plays. 👍
I don’t comment often but you two are so authentic… I love how real and heartfelt you two are.
Couldn't say it any better myself. It's the main reason why I watch them.
I will pile on, their approach and how they discuss with each other without speaking at us is soooo refreshing!!! Favorite go to for their discussion and their eclectic musical choices.
Agreed so autistic it is cool somehow.
You should comment more often, I love how real and heartfelt you are good sir
My mans sounds looks and sounds a lot like Link from Good Mythical Morning lol similar vibe as well.

That piece you played on the piano after the song ended, was so good.

Dimebag is the reason i picked up a guitar. And Kurt. But Dime man, there will never be another like him. RIP.
Metal is ALL about emotion. There are plenty of "positive" metal songs. Just as many as "dark" songs, in fact.
A New Level from the same album is a motivational song about not giving up.
the most complete song from them... I'll always love 'til my last days

Dimebag is one of the greatest metal vocalists of all time...just happened to wail with his guitars. Love this song ❤
Dimebag is the guitar player fyi.
Phil Anselmo is the singer.

BEST tiny wee partial intro ever, love Debussy Clair de Lune 🎶👂 🤍🏴✌️ Raine
Glad your boy Judson found it interesting, and he's definitely ready for the likes of Rise and Fudging Hostile. The journey continues
I like this setting. Looks a lot more professional than the previous filing area. You guys should film here more often!
