What I have always used in my early days drumming was the ZOOM h2N recorder in M/S mode or X/Y mode, in front of the kit - stereo mics or stereo with mono bass drum mic but it is all one mic unit! Portable, battery operated, 64GB sd storage. I now use my kit fully mic'ed up but _still_ use the ZOOM h2N as a room mic/back up mic in its old position!

i have an sm57 and a kick mic but really needed an overhead the AT2020 seemed good and this video really helped especially since we have the same set up

Hey man, if I may, Yamaha EAD10 is a great easy way out if you don’t plan to record anything professionally and can afford it.
It is a kick drum trigger+a single mic that connects to a drum module and you can add compression etc and get a premixed sound out of a tiny easy-to-set up device.
The OC 18s are the most "transparent" and color the sound the least. Sometimes, tough, one wants a colored sound. The SR25s seem to add a lot of stick definition, which I don't care for on that mic. It's leds so with you positioning, but if you get that much too close and it does not work quite nice.

Sound very not harsh and you can probably add some colour if you want in the mix without harshness.
Personally prefer the oc 18, doubled up the at2020s sound pretty decent. Just recently traded an xbox one x for an aston spirit and man that mic is the best its omni bi and mono directional i normaly just leave it on omni and record jam sessions just with the one mic payed 150 for the xbox traded for a 450 dollar mic picks up the crack of the snare, toms sound great cymbals hi hats it all sounds crisp and clean got an akg p200 im going to eventually use for my bass drum an sm 57 for my snare just gonna start with those 3 till i get some mics for my toms
What interface would you recommend for these 3 mics?

Hey nice videos overall ! Are you planning to make a video on which drums are the best for a beginner ? I would like to play but I feel confuse on what to buy as a first set. Edrum or accoustic, which brand, which set etc. Would be nice to have some advices ! (I almost love all the songs you cover so a guide on "your style" drums)

For EDrums almost always go Alesis. Unless you have a lot of money to spare or are looking for the best triggering, then go Roland. Acoustic, there isn’t a lot of difference between them, especially for student price-range sets.

I'm using a audio technica at2020 as overhead above my drums but I'm having issues when I use rimshot in the snare the mic is peaking, I've already turned down the gain but it still peaking, any advice guys?
Relocate the drums or add some room treatment or at least put some blankets on the walls. Sounds like it could be some room reflections.
The SR314 and the OC18 sounded the best in Mono and Stereo in my opinion they had most full sound to it
