"Rebecca has to work through some issues"
That's it. That's the entire show.
Yeah Basically 😂
The show is called Crazy Ex-girlfriend for a reason!
Yeah well her and like every other character.. and its AMAZING
This is the only way to resume this show HAHAHA
literally almost any movie can be described in a line you moron
"A guy who looks like the 0,01% of germs that soap doesn't kill" has just become my new favorite insult.
The fact I paused the video to see if anyone else was as awestruck by this insult as me and it's the top comment just says a lot xD

Literally the whole point of crazy ex-girlfriend is that "being creppy isnt ok even tho you are the main character", the show is actually pretty good, give it a chance man
I don’t think people understand the meaning of his videos he doesn’t watch a full on show for a review he watches the first episode if he likes it he would do more, sorry you got butt hurt
@@Movveeken Bruh yes i do understand it i've been seeing this channel for a long time, but my problem is that its literally spreading missinformation about a musical show that tries to normalize mental health problems
@@Movveeken Thats literally why i posted the comment, because if anyone who follows blindly his (literal unbased) review thinks the show is actually how its described here, it wont help people actually look this show
@@Movveeken and don't you think that style is kind of lazy and not conducive to insightful analysis??? it's definitely not true that he only continues watching if he likes it, he only does multiple episodes on shows like riverdale or vampire diaries because they're so cringey they're entertaining, and get millions of views. i used to watch alex a lot but i really don't enjoy his format of only watching the pilots of shows and making a snap judgment about them, because even the majority of the most acclaimed shows ever written are not well-captured by their pilots. it just seems lazy to me, and like he's clearly more interested in views than work ethic.
Maybe you’d like to try to watch every episode of a season and spend countless hours animating your review. Oldbergs right. If he likes the show, he would do more on it because he’s passionate about it. If he only does the first episode and makes fun of it, it’s probably because he got asked to do it by a lot of his fans. Not every movie or show review has to be an “insightful analysis.” Some people just make stuff for fun.
crazy ex girlfriend is actually a deconstruction of romcoms and toxic behavior while also following a woman through her self discovery and coming to terms with her mental illness. it balances the line of silly and serious pretty well as needed! i honestly put it up there with bojack horseman in its treatment of mental illness. it shows the dark side and struggle, but also growth and healing.
It’s really on par with BoJack imo. I think the concept and storytelling method turns some people off, but it’s exploration of topics and the way to provokes such deep thought and surprisingly good humour is very much equal to BoJack Horseman. I actually feel I’ve enjoyed it more than BJH!

"Being creepy is totally okay when you're the main character" is exactly one of the things the show is trying to deconstruct. I reccomend you continue watching. Episode 3 or 4 is really when you start to get the big picture of what this show is actually about.
i love this show so much 😭 i'm here to support rachel bloom on whatever she does
Oh cool
Season 3 is when it started going downhill and season 4 is just awful, I couldn't even watch the whole season it was that bad.
or like the whole second season it really helped show how mental illnesses can effect you
OMG this show is so terrible. It's not a deconstruction when it literally just ...does it. There really aren't consequences for the characters being awful. They aren't ostracized and there are no long term effects. Josh's friend is the only normal one and he just keeps going after Rebecca no matter what she does, which makes no sense because they haven't had any positive interactions
This show convinced me to finally see someone about my mental health. When Rebecca was getting diagnosed with BPD I was like...huh that sounds very familiar. Fast forward a couple of years and I am on meds, gone through therapy, been diagnosed with BPD and in a much better space generally. For that reason this show will always be special for me.
I watched this after I was diagnosed, it’s scary how accurate it is...
Proud of you!
This was basically my experience as well!!!!
Lots of love to you!!! Hope you're still doing well
@Eugene Kendrick thanks!
The fact that all the comments are about how the show was good and deeper than it looked like at first sight is healing my soul.
This show was so meaningfull and had such depth it hurts.
People who say Rebecca doesnt go through any consequences CLEARLY haven't watched the whole show
She destroys all her relationships, she tries to kill herself, she even goes to jail at one point.
I agree with those people considering the severity of her actions the backlash she receives is less that I would have thought. However that is realistic, just like Daniels father being a neglectful asshole who focuses on business & ignores his sons emotional needs. People get away with shitty behaviour in real life all the time, as does Rebecca. Pointing out unhealthy behaviour no matter the consequences is one of the shows points. Life isn't black & white, actions do not always have immediate consequences but no matter what we need to be self aware & reflect to be the best version of ourselves.
Well I dont think she has many consequences at all. She went to prison by choice, all three men are still in love with her throughout the show despite all the horrible things she does to all of them and her bestfriends stand by her no matter how many times she hurts them. She also gets to keep her job pretty much the whole time and wastes money like crazy and only once it puts her into debt and then by the next episode shes got endless amounts of money again (enough even to buy rebezels) and to top it off shes never actually admitted into any psychiatric facility like one normally would be after what she did. Everything works out for her and I fucking love this show but it also annoys me

@@---kg1qk and Mr. Robot.
I watched Crazy Ex Girlfriend after watching this video. Just completed it, and it is now my favorite show. The first 3 episodes I assumed this show was just a rom-com about a weird quirky girl trying to win back a man. But the picture became more clear. This show deconstructs rom-coms and uses satire to also deconstruct toxic behavior. This show is about Rebecca searching for something to fill the gap, she thinks that romantic love is what will help her. We see from an outside perspective that, in all actuality, this show is about Rebecca learning to find herself and love herself. Crazy Ex Girlfriend depicts mental health so well, and sends so many positive messages that are extremely important. They do this all in a balanced, entertaining way. I'm super picky about shows, so it's a big deal that I'm ranting about this one. Please check it out!
The show probably has "low ratings" because it touches CONSTANTLY on subjects that aren't seen in media today and showing it's okay to talk about it.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has continued for such a long time despite it's low ratings, because it's one of the few CW shows that are really critically acclaimed. It really is a well-written show with dynamic characters and great songs.
It's pretty much the only CW show that was actually good. I will never know HOW Rachel got to say and show some of the things she does. Especially with LGBT rep. The CW is absolutely AWFUL with LGBT rep.
No
Yeah, Rachel Bloom said winning a golden globe for the first season literally saved the show. Even despite the ratings dropping each season, it stayed a critical darling throughout its run to the finale. @@theactingchrisrivera Dude, this is funny since l always called Rebecca female Joe Goldberg, but less murdery.
This show actually isn't about love triangles at all, that's why Rachel Bloom, the writer who plays Rebecca, said "If you're team Josh or team Greg, you're watching it wrong.". It's about the realities of mental illness and personality disorders, the fact nobody is perfect but that doesn't make you mentally ill, anyone can improve if they admit they need help, etc. Rebecca spends the show confused and bouncing from guy to guy until she realises she just needs friends, not a boyfriend.
Yes! I remember reading a comment years ago on a polandbananas video in the beginning of the show that said "I'd be surprised if she ends up with Josh or Greg" and then the person said something about mental health. When something happened in a later season that eliminated any chance of her being with a certain character, I was like wow! Totally I loved where the show went. So well planed. I loved this show.
She and Aline (co-creator) had planned a lot out but her being diagnosed with BPD was only written in when they began to realize that Rebecca's behavior didn't fit what they initially thought she had (anxiety, depression, and OCD) and was more similar to BPD. So they got consultants and they agreed, and they included a one or two more traits in season 2.

This series actually goes super deep about mental health and dealing with relationships as it goes on, plus every musical number is full of pop references and they go through a LOT of different music genres and styles. You can even check some of the musical clips here on YT on the official CW channel, I'd definitely recommend that.
Rachel Bloom has most of the songs on her own channel "racheldoesstuff", and hers are uncensored.
This show gave me life in all the best ways. I ❤ loved 🧡it so very much!
I think the deconstruction of the crazy ex-girlfriend trope in this show is fascinating. At first, I was hesitant to watch because well... the title speaks for itself. But wow, am I glad that I did. The series discusses and explains Rebecca's unhealthy and erratic behavior while never justifying it. It depicts "taboo" mental illnesses (Specifically BPD, a personality disorder that's usually only seen in-code or in villains) and can be heartwarming and heart-wrenching, while still keeping a comedic tone. The musical numbers are catchy, and the characters feel human. I honestly don't understand how the ratings decreased as the series went on, in my personal opinion, I thought it got better as it progressed.
Oxford Pigeon it really did get better as it progresses
Honestly? I think the decrease in ratings wasn't about losing viewers, but viewers perhaps transitioning to other platforms like Netflix. The core demographic the show aimed for is more likely to prefer watching at their own pace and binging an entire season-worth of shows. Rather than be chained to a schedule, or super pumped to see it before work the next day and not have spoilers like West world and GOT, CXG is made to feel almost like a series of UA-cam videos where you fall down the rabbit hole Friday night and come out on Sunday morning.
I only ever saw it on Netflix, it used to come out weekly in Europe. And that love triangle (diamonds are a girls best friends parody) song is great.
As someone with BPD, I feel like it’s not completely out of my wheelhouse to move somewhere for someone I “love”😂 impulsivity is one of the worst aspects of BPD, that being said I hate musical numbers so I won’t be watching the show
She has BPD? Why can’t my BPD be that fun or productive?
Hot tip: don't try to summarize 4 whole seasons of a show when you've only seen the pilot episode

I actually feel offended for the show that every beautiful nuanced detail of this show has been boiled down to mush. Sir, please. Watch the whole show. There's sooooo much more to it. Everything you pointed out is for a reason. :(
Did you ever hear his commentary at the end?
This show is actually one of the biggest reasons why I started getting help and was diagnosed with BPD...it's definitely a "dramatic" reenactment of what it's like to have BPD but there needs to be comedy and entertainment value obviously. Looking back a few years later, I get somewhat offended by the way BPD is portrayed but it is actually a pretty good representation of the inner monologue of someone with BPD
Lyss same!! I was diagnosed after the show
Yeah no I've been diagnosed for about 10 years and this show hits the nail on the head. I really, really acted like this. And worse. It's obv. Different for everyone tho.
Dude, this show is so good in deconstructing all those toxic tropes and dealing with mental health issues. It's worth seeing all of it.
yet ended up with the toxic trope of males getting forced into beta supporting roles for the females.
@@porcupinesauce3872 you're right. the way greg, josh, and nathaniel all followed their dreams independently of the women they liked was so beta and submissive
@@secretlybees it was just a cheap add in to make it seem like they are all independent and have lives but in the end she made it like they would throw it all away if she decided to love one of them back. like puppies on a leash allowed to roam free in the park but if the owner called out they would all come running right back.
@@porcupinesauce3872 it was more like they were grabbing onto each other's toxicity and she started her mental health journey before josh and nathaniel. when she was doing poorly, she would have went for any of those men (and did) despite how unhealthy it was for her. and greg straight up left her because she was bad for him and didn't feel like he could be with her again until after she'd changed and gotten better.
@@secretlybees she actually said herself there was nothing wrong with each one. which is debatable lol but simply in all their cons and pros they were all brilliant. it was more to do with how she still didn't know who she was yet and had to figure that out as a person herself so in that sense let all her lovers to be free to figure out who they were also without her.
which comes to my problem of after a year of everyone with their own self discovery she still made it seem like she was the main star, the idk what word for it but made it like all these guys are still having her as their top.priority they would run back to if she choses to "finally open herself up again for love ".
which I find is a bad message to end the show with but I can also understand why she would end it like that since in season 1 and 2 all her life she has been chasing man, and from my blurry recollection Josh was mostly oblivious to all her efforts in getting him to like her. while Greg also was mean and sarcastic and didn't really like her either. but she also didn't really like him as well so I can see why "team Greg" is the option cos they grew to like each other.
which is actually why I was rooting for Nathaniel and Rebecca when Greg left , as Nathaniel could fill that different but similar kind of "challenger " role to Rebecca for them to fall in love with each other. I am the most dissappointed with what they did with Nathaniel character. u still need to be alpha, like if that's his character don't make it seem like a "toxic " trait when it's needed sometimes in work and in relationships. they made him into a literal simp with no self respect in his undying love for Rebecca after she constantly rejected him.
and Josh well Josh just needs someone at his wavelength that won't play mind games and gaslight em..
I know that makes it sound like I'm saying Rebecca is a bad person..and she has grown a lot but man..in season 1 and 2 she played him like a fiddle.. I know what it's like to be on the Josh end and it is not fun to be just treated like some dumb idiot that can just be played with like a toy..whether intentions are "good" or not.. as their expectations of u shatter but still remain delusional to what they want u to be instead of what u are .
I went on a whole rant on it lol but Josh is a good guy, always has been, Rebecca held him to such a high esteem cos his really the "pinnacle good popular high school guy" that's nice respectful yet also naively truthful.. but I think the problem is that's where he peaked and Rebecca was the one that got rejected by him in highschool , and grew more intelligently to become a lawyer and saw Josh as the "last time she was happy " person and became delusional in her want of him.
when he rejected her again at the alter even after she knew that he knew all the rising skepticism of her suspicious behaviour to create this persona and feeding him lies that she thought he would love her for and finding out a whole past of being to a mental institution that she never told him and also Richard lol.
she can be very toxic. and Josh is more suspecptible to it..
no doubt she has done a lot of good as a person in relationships and especially as a lawyer and her fixing problems (sometimes she really digs her own grave ) but making the outcome even a lot better . that's her remarkable moments and that's how Greg fell in love with her..
but with Josh I sense it's inevitable she will play him.and leave him to dry whenever she feels like it..when he's "too dumb " to catch on..
but I did not expect the other guys to also just follow her around like a lost puppy in love like that when she wrote their character set up to be different than Josh..
I mean josh is a simple nice guy that has proven to be responsible for teaching the choreography of a dance to a group of dancers in highschool. and also being a teacher in a camp. the cool responsible dude. that when u uncover the surface in following seasons he has moments of being a whiny child that wants to revert back to highschool days and not face adulthood..
I mean Valencia also same thing like Rebecca manipulated and controlled Josh
Rebecca u just kinda have to let her create her own problems and solve them and is entertaining to watch lol. cos she's like a lose canon that u don't really know what to expect next.
the only person she should be with in the end is Greg. judging by the power dynamic in the relationship ..in the end still Greg is just eh..
sorry I think at the end came.into a weird abstract ramble idk wtf im.talkig about lol I think I'm just overall upset over the hate and blame Josh gets . but that's all I can think of for now.
she needed to character develop more on her male love interests to not just be sappy people in love with her unconditionally..granted Greg said he won't.wait for her..but really tho with that ending shot really...
you clearly did not watch the complete show.
Crazy ex girlfriend is actually so good. It literally tackles so many issues and does it accurately and it's still funny and the musical theater aspect is really cool
The beauty of this show is that it slowly becomes more serious and brings up the reality of mental health (in seasons 3 and 4)Through self aware parody songs....
Also even in the first episode tease what is really going on. Rabecca depressed and having a panic attack, using Josh as a excuse to escape, Rebecca actually realising what she is doing is insane but Paula stoped her, Paula getting obsessed, Josh as a man child, after Valencia alone only having Josh and her status, Heather not ataching to nothing and so on... is all shown right at the start but it takes time for us really realise what is going on.
As someone with BPD, I found myself relating to Rebecca in ways I've never related to anyone else before. BPD is rarely talked about in tv shows or movies because it's not as well known as other mental disorders, so for them to not only bring it up at all but to also portray it so accurately was incredible
"being creepy it's totally okay when you're the main character"
IT'S NOT, IT'S NOT!!! THAT'S THE POINT OF THE SHOW!! IT'S REALLY NOT OKAY!!! YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO JUDGE HER AND KNOW SHE'S WRONG, THE WRITING IS SHOWING YOU THE BAD THINGS!!! i'm okay

Actually what kept the show on air despite the bad ratings was good critiques, Rachel said it on her Golden Globe speech.
Maybe the reason you found it difficult to write jokes on the episode is that it's actually well written. Such a great, great show, I'm sure people kept asking you to watch it no to make fun of it but to enjoy it :)
JUST WATCH THE REST OF IT IT'S A WONDERFUL DECONSTRUCTION OF CLICHES AND TROPES AND GENRES AND THAT HAS AN ENDING THAT MAKES ME CRY EVERY GODDAMN TIME LIKE LEGIT YOU CANNOT JUDGE IT ON THE FIRST FEW EPISODES BC IT GETS SO MUCH BETTER IN THE LONG RUN
I was in TEARS when I watched the finale! Best way to wrap up a show ever
This show is amazing, it’s all seen through the eyes of the “protagonist” and as the show goes on all of the characters have a natural development. What I liked most was there felt like there were consequences to the antics she pulls, the first season is just full on MAD.
Rebecca: **stalks someone**
Joe Goldberg: oh so when I do it it’s wrong?
He watched her ya know and he killed for her...
but no one said it's okay when rebecca stalks her ex, wha-
Your reference to You is that the best friend in this show did the narration for the Audiobook, right :)
Tbh if it was a dude no one would care and would call it romantic
When Rebecca does it it's wrong too. The show's pretty clear on that.
This show definitely needs more recognition, the comedy is great and the way they tackle mental health issues felt satisfying and comforting.
You must got really bad taste
Dang it Alex :( you missed the whole point of the show
The thing about CX-GF is that despite the low rates, the fanbase was dedicated AND it was critically acclaimed. Having watched the whole show... It's a work of art. The de-construction of the crazy ex trope, the way it deals with mental health issues, sexuality, race, privilege, feminism, and how they use music to enhance the comedy and to give deeper insight into the characters' minds is ingenius and rarely done on TV. It got to tell it's story to the end and it did it amazingly well.
You're right. Rachel won a golden globe because of CXGF.
Especially when you realize the musical aspect is super intentional in the most meta way. Such an underrated show.
I SO AGREE
I also watched the whole show and loved it. I think it really did something for me because it depicted mental health so good. Even though some of the plots and characters were super dumb, they did manage to depict what they wanted in a funny beautiful way.

Duuuuuude you need to finish the show, there’s absolutely no way you can judge it fairly on episode one, or even SEASON one. Rebecca’s mental health journey is too good to miss! (And it also made me finally accept that I needed to actually get my OCD diagnosed and treated, by the by. It’s a damn powerful show.)
If it takes more than a season for a show to get people invested, then it's not a good show since it failed to do the one thing all interesting media needs to do, and that's hook you.
@@JaneDoe-gu5sb no one said season one was bad (bc it's not), but the show keeps getting better and better every season
P0RT4L: N3WB FTW I never said it takes more than a season to get invested, but you miss a lot of the complexities of the story by stopping at season one. Season one is incredibly good, but it’s only a fraction of the journey.
P0RT4L: N3WB FTW That’s not what she meant. Her actions are a gradual buildup that starts out as “crazy but funny” but then turns into actually concerning. Once she gets her diagnosis in season three that’s when her mental health journey really starts but that doesn’t mean the earlier seasons are bad. The pacing is perfect imo
@@JaneDoe-gu5sb many great shows have start that doesn't hook you in right away. So I disagree on that one there missis mister person.

Maple sauce what
Maple sauce no i’m just confused at this attempt to be funny just because it’s a concept you can’t understand doesn’t mean that they’re a “fake depressive”
The show is a musical because Rebecca finds comfort in musicals so she sees her life a a series of songs and they do help her find the truth about herself and the situations she's in
I thought it was also supposed to be a satire on musicals on how they spontaneously bust into song and dance.
Young & Funny that too
Hey Alex! I really enjoy your videos but I feel like you missed the mark on this one. You're making fun of the show for things they make fun of themselves. That's the whole point of the show! I'd love it if you gave this show another chance - it's worth it! :)
I feel like a lot of people really miss the point of this show...it's all about deconstructing romcoms and making you question what you've been taught to believe, especially about romance. & I love the theme of recovery for pretty much everyone by the end, especially recovery not based around romantic relationships. I sort of liked izombie and JTV, but let's be real they weren't even half as well written. Their main similarity was that they were all CW shows with female protagonists.
This show is ground-breaking. It's beautiful and funny and heart-breaking and great. The best on-screen depiction of mental illness: depression, anxiety, BPD, that I've seen maybe ever?
Totally, I watched this show as a pick me up when going through my own bouts with anxiety and depression, and it always helped to alleviate my stresses!❤
@@trinaq same! It honestly really helped me when I was having a rough time with my mental health a couple of years ago. I finally took the plunge and asked for help and I'm genuinely not sure if I would have done that if it wasn't for this show. Rachel Bloom is a god damn genius.

Which is even crazier bc Rachel had never planned on Rebecca having BPD until season 3, when she went the full mile and talked to psychiatrists to see what she might fit. And doing so improved the show to an incredible degree.
hooooooooly fuck, you've missed one of the very best shows ever
As a psychologist, this show is an incredible look at the mind of a diverse group of people. And that’s what makes it so amazing. Everyone is going through something and no action is deemed wrong, just misguided. It’s beautiful and full of representation. For reference see the PERFECT music video “I’m getting Bi”
Or “I Go To The Zoo” as it doesn’t give the viewer any context and is so funny. Or her music video “ #Ladyboss” as it’s separate from the show.
Isla Sullivan OMG yes! Rachel’s UA-cam channel before the show is a gem
Or the non-binary character that no one has to even mention is non-binary!! They just accept them as a regular part of the cast and that's just how it is. Oooor, the jokes about 'fit hot guys' having problems, too.
"Getting Bi" has to be one of the best songs ever written, it's fucking hilarious and pure and everything that a modern TV show SHOULD be. Also holy crap a main character was openly bi on a TV show and they weren't written badly!
YES!!!!
A band made up of four joshes is amazing.
Like the lines where he addresses the fact she has childhood trauma (which so many people don't connect to BPD and rather keep perpetuating the negative stereotype associated with it) so a TV show recognising it is amazing. Even the reference to unexplained symptoms which is something you see with individuals with emotional and psychological abuse , or how it recognises that she's stuck in developmental stages. It's actually genius and really accurate to mental health and current research.
i’ve met the actress who plays valencia (: she was doing a little broadway boot camp at my school since she’s from our hometown. she was super nice!
Clarissa Gonzalez that is so cool!
Aw that's awesome man!!!!!!
It's depressing that this show had such low ratings. It's one of my all-time favourites; I hate musicals but this, I love.
It did such a great job of representing mental health issues and personal development all in one.
Only started watching the show this month, and from episode one I can already tell when this show does the "creepy stalker behavior is romantic" trope, it's not seriously endorsing that idea, it's making fun of that trope. I went into this thinking it would be like "How I Met Your Mother" - mostly a standard rom-com with the occasional funny musical interlude. But it turned out to be so much better. I wasn't expecting so many songs, and I wasn't expecting the silliness to actually have a point.
4:35 the show COMPLETELY deconstructs the "being creepy is totally ok if you're the main character" trope, so much so that later on a male character is introduced that does all the same creepy things as rebecca but it seems creepier cause he's a man - it really shows the audience just how inexcusable rebecca's creepy behaviour can be. seriously, watch this show!
Just because their aware of it doesn't make it clever, and it doesn't mean it's not poorly written. They can't make fun of the same tropes they use to propel the show forward in an earnest way, its hypocrisy.
@@JaneDoe-gu5sb you clearly haven't watch the show. She does all those creepy things, but that doesn't make it ok and you keep watching she will suffer the consequences of her actions.

"It had one of the worst ratings of any CW show"
Yea because those Nielsen TV ratings and whatever others only measure number of viewers, not actual quality of the production
Crazy Ex Girlfriend deserved each of its 4 seasons while certain other shows currently airing don't
The thing is that television producers don't think like that. They think about what is most profitable, and that's shows with high ratings. So it's a bit weird for the show to get four seasons.
It's really about business not.. if the show is good or not.
They have to make money, they're a company.
But it did get awards, unlike most of the other shows on the CW. I think it won a few Emmys and other awards like Critics choice.

You're missing the point of the show!\
Dude, this show is amazing.
When I first heard about the show, I thought the premise was stupid and avoided watching. Which I assume many people did based on the ratings. But, around season 2, I started noticing song clips from UA-cam in my recommendations. So I finally walked out of curiosity, And have been in love with the show ever since. I miss the days when the CW wasn't overtaken by DC superheroes.
the same thing happened to me, i was really skeptical about it even after many people recommended it to me, but i gave it a chance and im so happy that i did!
Thirded, at first it seemed kind of goofy and over the top, but then I gave it a chance. I love how it deconstructs the usual romcom tropes, including "Stalking is Love" and "The Sassy Best Friend", by showing how Rebecca's actions are actually quite terrifying in the real world!😱
Dc? You mean Marvel??
@@wenders4908 The CW doesn't do Marvel TV series, only DC. Like Arrow (which just had a series finale), The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Supergirl, Black Lightning. They're now looking into like 2 more spin-off shows for Arrow🙄.
“The 0.01% of germs that hand sanitizer doesn’t kill.” lmao. I am choking.

She is crazy. Literally. Mentally ill and in a midlife crisis. It caused her to make awful decisions. It's a tragic comedy that uses music to convey how much she over-romanticised everything in her own head.
I think the main point of the 'sexy getting ready song' is how nonsense it is for women, rather than expecting the same nonsense from men (:
Please please please, watch more episodes. The character development is so good. I love all the characters on such a deep level, because they are so perfectly imperfect. And it's not about a love triangle, there is so much more about mental health, all kinds of relationships (between friends, on the workplace, parents etc) and the "music video's" are so extremely good haha I love how the show jokes about itself and sometimes breaks the fourth wall
YESSS! The first episodes may seem weird but this show is. Soooo. Good. Right up there with Jane the Virgin for me (which Alex had a good review on)
Alex, please watch more episodes.
It is very well written and absolutely unique.
I'm pretty sure Alex occasionally exaggerates the comedy for laughs (kinda like a less extreme version of CinemaSins, tho I dont like that channel much), he's usually pretty honest at the end and here he does say that the show is self-aware enough to make it good, which is not something he says for shows he dislikes. It may not be his favorite but he actually did give this one a positive review |D
This is one of the most well written, funny, original shows ever made. If you watch the entire thing it actually is really, really good and not at all how it initially seems it will be. Your opinion of it isn't wrong, it's just the character development and story arch is brilliant and things aren't what they seem in the beginning.
This show is so good it’s so much more than a love triangle
Was disappointed with the totally superficial coverage of the show. It is so nuanced, deals with a variety of complex issues, and the very point is that the romance is literally the last thing this show is even about.
An amazing show! Rebecca is such a well written character. Especially how they portray mental health and the “erratic” female nerd type. Plus the songs are soooo funny
Indeed, they certainly make Rebecca a more nuanced character as the show progresses, and deconstruct her more questionable actions, so that they don't seem cute, but downright horrifying and unsettling to the people around her.
Does “It was a shit show” make anyone else cry every time they watch it?
Every single time
Of course!
I cry for so many reasons
i just sing it too much and became desensitized tbh
Nah... but then again I listen to burn from Hamilton to entertain myself
While I can appreciate the point of this video in its snarky approach, Crazy Ex Girlfriend is a refreshingly bizarre escape from an ever-expanding world of formulaic, this-agan crap. Despite its incredibly low ratings (which I ascribe to shoddy marketing and the show's ironically cheesy facade -- I avoided the show for years simply because it LOOKED dumb), its four seasons all scored between 90% and 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and its recurring emphasis on mental illness is both honest and approachable enough for even the sanest of folk to embrace. Its self-awareness is what keeps the whole mess from toppling; whenever you think, 'this is some cheesy-ass shit', you are reminded that it's intentional. And hilarious.
