    Naps. Lol. Last year for my birthday, I was 35 weeks pregnant. In August. My husband and family asked what I wanted and I said I want a nap...a long two hour nap. Take our son and let me nap. Best Birthday present ever.

      My bestie had "Irish twins" and both were cranky, bad sleepers. For her birthday, I gifted her and her husband an overnight at a really nice hotel on the beach, with an amazing restaurant, wine bar, piano lounge, etc. My bestie and her husband went down for a nap when they checked in and did not wake up until the next morning.

    Just going to add: don't be afraid to admit if you aren't ok. Those first few weeks after baby comes home...will turn you upside down. If you aren't OK, talk to someone. PPD and PPA are both very real, very common and very under-discussed. It's totally ok to accept that this isn't what you thought you'd feel, and to reach out for some help.

    Great video, brought me right back to when our daughter was born.
    Partners in the audience, seriously just do whatever you can to help the mother of your child. Help apply her hemorrhoid cream, make food, change every diaper possible, day or night, watch the baby for a few hours so she can spend some time alone away from the home and baby, be kind. I wasn’t a mind reader either, but I tried to anticipate her needs, listen, and be adaptable. It was a hard time, but striving to be equal partners really strengthened our bond with each other and our daughter.

    Wow, this is VERY accurate! Six months pregnant with my second child here and honestly can't really remember the first few weeks with my first. It's all a haze of being so tired and overwhelmed with emotion, yet sooo happy. I DO remember pacing the living room every single night bawling my eyes out with my daughter in my arms, not knowing why I was crying. I never ever cry normally but the tears just streamed. Happy tears, tired tears, sad tears, oh-my-god-my-baby-is-so-beautiful-tears, tears of fear (HELP, what if baby dies!?), tears of abandonment (that "bye bye good luck have fun" from the hospital hit HARD)... So so so much hormones rushing around.

      Set your babies schedule yourself! Do it according to their sleep/wake times, of course. But put them down for a nap at the same times every day, and after a few days, they will get into a consistent pattern! You just gotta be consistent and not give up. Let them cry! Up to 30 min (as long as they are well-fed, diaper changed, not teething, etc). Just check on them at first every 10 or 15 minutes. But after that first few days especially, we can check on them after 30 minutes, and then a week or 2 later you don’t need to check on them at all during each nap.
      Also don’t let them nap for longer than the recommended time for their age range (2 hours @ 3-6 months)! (yes that means you sometimes have to wake them up, but it’s worth it! And they are fine!)
      This will help them sleep better at night and sleep THROUGH the night!
      We did all of these things with my son and it worked like magic!

      @@genasseeceline I'm sorry, this does not work for every person/child/baby. I'm not going to get into the cry it out debate, but I am going to say it does not work for everyone. Some people simply don't require much sleep, and you can't force a body to sleep any more than it needs.

    Sounds like your hospital experience was way better than mine. My hospital birth with my first was God-awful. The doctor was an a-hole. The nurses were cranky. I had to share a room with a very loud woman. I could not wait to get out of there.

      @@hollyl5702 These are all valid points. We all change over our lifetimes. However, I feel that it's important not to reinforce the idea that having kids is right for everyone- if they meet the right person, if their "biological clock" tells them to, if if if... You know? It gets frustrating to childfree folks to be told that our perspectives are somehow naïve.

      I can help with that description. Standards change fast! My 3 children 22 months and 27 months apart in age. If you can let things go that don't really matter with housework, easier meals, do it! Sleep when the babies sleep! Who cares if the laundry isn't put away, you need sleep. It is okay to use the dryer as clothes storage option at the new baby and having a toddler stage! You can even use clothes hampers as clothes storage. Who cares? You aren't going anywhere and all you need to remember about baby at home? Snapped undershirts and baby nightgowns for changes in the middle of the night. Game changer. Those cute pajamas with snaps? Ha! You have to be fully awake to have a baby wear those and you won't be fully awake until all the children are 4!
      Make a list of what "has to be done" (take out garbage, let dogs out in to potty, mom needs to eat and drink, etc)
      Now, make a list of "extra" things that would be nice but let us be realistic....
      You are welcome

    "Gimmie a call when you see the placenta" lol 🤣 The doctor asked if I wanted to keep the placenta but I just wanted to see it. It was trippy.
    Unfortunately I was not able to sleep before pregnancy very much. Definitely didn't sleep until after giving birth. I did get some sleep at the hospital but not much in three days.
    TBH giving birth was better than pregnancy for me personally. I would've rather gone through labor and delivery again if I could've skipped pregnancy. I feel sad for women that have post-pardom depression. Bringing my baby home was one of the best feelings ever.
    I never felt as happy with a human being as I was with my newborn feeling safe in our home. Best high ever even though I was exhausted.
    In a few months things changed with teething and interruptions from crazy family... but learning to say when you need help is paramount.
    Also BABY proofing!!! ( We were not allowed to ....living with a crazy person) and it sucked so much more than it had to because of that once baby started to get mobile.
    If you have guilt over putting baby in a safe spot while you need a bath, or a nap ....fight the guilt! Can be tough with the emotions and your baby crying (after you've gone through the checks of course; handled feeding, teething, diaper, fun levels, noise levels, etc...) .....it's a lot. Even when you read everything you can before hand. Be kind to yourself and patient with you too not just your baby.

    100%, no delays, ask your doctor about postpartum depression resources--even if you haven't given birth yet. It is normal to have "I left my baby behind at the store" type of dreams, but if they persist, or get worse, do NOT delay getting help. It is out there, it is normal, and it is solvable. Take my word for it.

    These are beautiful videos.
    I had an idea;
    do a two scene one where you switch back and forth;
    one each but separate; (maybe light his one way and hers with a slightly different colour of lighting to differentiate as you switch back and forth,) with your younger selves, on the day you knew they were the one you wanted to be with for the rest of your life. (and maybe one for the day you met them?)

    Buy as many Tucks as the store will let you, and ask the hospital to give you ANYTHING they opened to use on/for you and baby and will toss out after you leave. Even if you're rich, saving yourself a later trip to the store, saving the wait for instacart to bring a thing, is worth hauling extra crap with you on the trip home from the hospital. Even if it take two trips to bring it from the room to the car and the car to the house.

      I had 3 babies, 3 different births, in a hospital and I don't like hospitals. I don't like medical care even.
      Why? I had the strong urge to be mom. It hit me at age 21 and stayed with me until I became a mom. Then, when that baby turned one. The urge to have another hit me. It was powerful!
      It is a mystery why. I still hate hospitals, medical care, and am still very modest. Yet, I wanted children.
