It was great...no stress! But it was a bit surreal to walk in single and walk out 30 min later married. One expects a life altering decision to have more fanfare. 😆

We're not even married yet and I knew this almost from the start 😅 Thought it was obvious once you grew up. That's how all relationships work. You can never have a relationship on your own, you're two different people who have to work for it.

My all time go to advice for newlyweds is to always focus on your self in an argument. I have never won an argument by pointing my finger at my husband and declaring all his wrong doings. But when I stop to evaluate myself and find something I did wrong to apologize for, that's when his attitude changes and we can come back together to work on things. You can't change others, but you can always better yourself. Marriage is beautiful! #10years #4kids

18 years in: My husband and I wake up every day and say, I marry you. And it's a beautiful reminder of the covenant we made. Also, try to be the one who forgives first. My husband is so much better at this than me, and I am a better person because of him.

Been married 5 years. Best advice I can share: love is not always a feeling. It's a choice you make. New feelings come, old feeling go, but choosing to love them and just choosing them everytime will just make your partnership stronger. Okay one more: rethink your expectations, especially when frustrated. Look to yourself first and boldly challenge your own thinking before accidentally assuming how the other person should act, then talk it through together when calm.

Put money away (even if it is only $20/month) and don’t touch it until your kids go to college (or save it for a trip for yourselves when they graduate).
If you can’t be civil in a conversation have a prepared statement to tell your SO you need space/time to process before talking. Such as: I can’t trust myself to talk right now, give me 20-30 minutes and we can circle back to talk.
Make Date Night a priority (minimum once a month). You don’t have to go out to dinner. Fix sandwiches and walk around the park or around the block. Just get rid of the outside world (phone, RV, Internet, neighbors and family) and spend time together.
Life is rough, but you made a commitment to each other. Honor and respect it! (34+ years married)

My husband and I are coming up on 21 years next month, and one of the things I've realized is that you don't get to a point in your marriage where you've made it. You can't tale your relationship for granted, you need to work on it and prioritize it. And if something is bothering you, talk about it (or write a letter if you can't do confrontation), don't let it fester.

27+ years of marriage and 3 amazing kids who are the kindest, most responsible young adults ever. They are my people I would want with me in an emergency or disaster b/c they have an amazing ability to remain calm. Of course that is what happens when you teach your kids not to panic and they watched their mom who has a lifetime of patience for everyday (because God chose to put that in me).
-Pray and read God's Word every day
    -Don't sweat the small stuff
-Keep a "this too shall pass" attitude
    -Give your worry to God
-Remember that life is too short to be angry, lose patience, or let things bug you
-Don't be a slave to debt. You will miss out on sooooo much if you are.
-Get a will and trust written up
-Get more life insurance than you think will be sufficient so that your spouse can have less weight on his or her shoulders if you should pass from this life

We celebrate our 24th anniversary next week. My advice to my engaged self is don't burden your hubby with unfair and unrealistic expectations. Let him be who he is and you both wil become better people after raising your kids together. We are happier now than at years 6-10, which were rough. Also, the love life continues and gets better after the kids are grown. Never knew that. Never knew a lot of things. Best advice -- marry a kind person who believes in family and marriage, and then don't give up. Ever. Best is yet to be. You just don't know what it will look like. Love is really everything.
