    In reference to 22:35 time in the video and what you said about it! I have watched literally hundreds of washing machine
    related videos, a very large portion of yours! For a few reasons such as, to learn how to repair a couple of my washing machines, entertainment, and simply I am addicted to UA-cam videos! I had a old style GE washing machine till at which time the transmission started to leak oil and I learned that it couldn't be repaired. So at that time I also had a whirlpool direct drive machine that I bought new back in the 90tys in storage, the reason it was in storage was 10 years prior I thought the transmission had failed which turned out to be the motor coupling. I did figure this out after which time I had already swapped to for the GE I had in storage. So I got the whirlpool out of storage and replaced the motor coupling and it worked enough to wash clothes and to revile all of it other problems one of which was it was off balance to the point that we had to physically hold it down in spin cycle! We actually lived with it like that for much longer than we should have. I did keep trying to fix the problem by replacing parts that I learned may help by the videos I watched. I will list all of the parts I have replaced in this machine up to date, alot of which were to attempt to fix the off Ballance situation. All 6 snubber pads,neutral drain kit, transmission oil, all springs, door bushings, new trimmer,( if I had any brains I would have threw in the towel before spending 160.00 on the trimmer but it gets worse.) Clutch pads, basket drive and break ,tub seal, top seal of tub support, motor coupling, drive block, and last but definitely not least new basket and Ballance ring. All of these parts were new. A few days ago the last of the parts that I thought for sure would stop the Ballance problem I added and was putting the cabinet back on and was having a bunch of trouble getting it to sit correctly on the back tabs! Then I saw IT, most likely a no more than 5 dollar part one of the self adjusting legs missing it's pin!!! (Did find the pin laying in the frame) so I drove the pin back in place, and was thinking may have just spent a lot of money and effort for what a 5 dollar part could have fixed! I reinstalled the machine and it works flawlessly! Next day I came across this video, probably watching it for the 2nd or 3rd time that's when I heard the above mentioned part of video, then I knew I had spent all that money and time unnecessarily! How ever I do not regret it, I now have an awesome old style direct drive machine that will probably out last me. Only thing left to do is paint the cabinet inside and out! Thanks for all your educational videos, I have enjoyed them and learned a lot!

      Wow, what a story with your washing machines! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your story-it's like a mini-epic in the world of appliance repair. It's amazing that a missing pin was the culprit after all those repairs. Your journey not only shows your determination but also how much one can learn along the way. Thanks for sticking with my videos, and I’m glad they could help you out. It sounds like your Whirlpool is ready to take on anything now. Keep up the great work, and thanks again for your support! And thanks for sharing your repair journey with us too!

      I need to ask you a question and I can't figure out another way to contact you. I used lucus red n tacky lithium grease (alot of it) in the tub support tube where the bearings are and inside the basket drive tube. I want to know your opinion about how this grease will effect the seals, will it destroy them quickly? Slowly? or not at all? Do you ever encounter machines that have had that kind of grease used on them? I should have known better but I guess I needed to make additional mistakes. Thanks

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  2 місяці тому

      As lithium grease is based on petroleum, it tends to speed up the decay of rubber and plastic components. I wouldn’t use it in this situation. What you need is a silicone based lubricant but it should be used sparingly. I have no idea how long it takes for lithium grease to degrade a seal. Asking your questions here is a great way for others to learn or input their experiences for the benefit of the community. If you have something private to say you can always email me. Info is on the channel page. Thanks for reaching out!

    Another excellent repair, thanks for the knowledge! Typically how much do you charge for a repair like that?

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  4 місяці тому +1

      That repair would be about 1 hour shop labor plus parts and tax. What you charge hourly for labor would depend a lot on what the market will bear and how you compete with other repair shops. Thanks for watching!

    Chip, another great repair.
    Is it possible to put too much oil in these transmissions? If it is, will too much oil cause damage to the transmission? Thanks.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  4 місяці тому +1

      I doubt if too much oil will cause damage to the machine but it certainly will make a mess under it when it climbs up the agitator shaft and slings all over the place. I think it’s designed to hold 16 ounces. Thanks for watching!

    Really learning a lot from your channel. If you wouldn’t mind helping me decide I’ve looked into these washers. Which would you recommend or stay away from. I put my hands on the LG 7150 direct drive motor unit and tub doesn’t wobble all over the place. (My current whirlpool is about to jump out of my house). Would greatly appreciate your advice!

    Hi Chip got a top load ge washer, leaking oil under the agaitor now it's the seal under the agaitor couplin that between shaft and the spline have you ever replaced one ? The transmissions are no longer available they are fairly simple transmissions I would like to replace the seal without removing it, If you have ran into this problem before would like your advise, Thanks for your expertise

      @@HarperandKnowles Thanks for the link, I did watch it found the same although the young man failed the last part he was looking underneath the machine that in my judgment would have been the tube seal not spline, Thank you for the link, I hope I have better luck with my job I would replace the transmission it's not a bad job if I could find one reasonable priced. Thank you again love your channel, Just a note I was a GE tech for 15 years when the transmission came out though the top in one unit replaced alot of them !

    Hey Chip! too bad you still have to pull it all out to add oil. question, friends electrical kenmore stack unit. Dryer is taking 3 full cycles to dry. I cleared lint from exhaust..still not. Tumble ok, saw
    element glow. is element an all or nothing or can it wear down and be a problem? thx

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  4 місяці тому +2

      It takes 3 things for a dryer to function properly. One, it must tumble, two, a proper heat source, and three, correct air flow. So if it tumbles and you have good air flow there is a heat problem. It could be that the element is grounded and only a portion of the element is glowing. Try testing it on a high heat setting with no clothes in it and a thermometer at the exhaust port. Depending on the brand your temperature should rise to 140 or above for GE brands and 155 and above for Whirlpool models before cycling off. If the temperature is correct and it cycles off and on then you have an airflow restriction somewhere. Thanks for watching!
