Such a touching scene. Love this moment between Monica and John, the show has gone long enough without a comforting moment between her and her father in-law, it was sweet. Shows that despite all the crap his kids give him, when they need him John will always be there. And I think this scene will help a lot of mothers who had just gone through losing a baby.
I think it would be comforting to anyone who has lost a child but yes, the he lived a perfect life. I don't always agreeing with Sheridan but this was perfect. I don't like what he's done with Monica most of the time but this was perfect.
You can't give him credit for everything. The actors are all known to go off script or add. Especially Kevin Costner. Also, they're only words on a page and without the acting interpretation, delivery and emotion they're nothing. Sheridan might be gifted even but he doesn't do it alone.
Simple words but perfect for the moment. Taylor Sheridan has a gift for writing the perfect thing to say and Kevin Costner have such a heart felt performance. This show brings us back to a simpler time, with good writing and acting. Well done
This show was playing in the background at work. I don't watch Yellowstone but I did just recently lose a pregnancy due to unfortunate circumstances. I saw the scene where she sobs on the floor and teared up because i can relate. But, this scene....this scene made my heart twist and had me crying. These were the words I needed to hear. Thank you for this perspective
This felt right on the mark for me John’s a tariffing enemy but a noble person I’m shure he saw Monica as a enemy to begin with she belongs to a group who feel they have a claim to his land and she “took” his son from him but in this time this place she’s the wife of his son the mother of his grandson she’s family and he alone knows what it feels like to have a child taken from him and seen the effect it’s had
Just had a 31 week stillborn this weekend. My baby Gia 👼 The thought of her having a perfect life and all her knowing is me and my love is so comforting 💕 let the angels guide her to paradise ✨️
Loved that moment between John and Monica. My heart hurts for Poor Kayce and Monica. They deserve happiness for their little family. Wish the baby hadn’t died. Kudos to Kelsey Asbille who has been doing an amazing job and Luke Grimes as well.
Best written scene of the show since S2. Season 5 is hitting on all 4 hooves and i couldnt be happier. Hope this is the begining of more john and monica scenes. I cant brag about this show enough.
This right here is the perfect example why I love Yellowstone. The writers and director put their soul into the show and we all feel it. Beautiful scene, beautiful writing!.
THE perfect gesture of empathy, depth, compassion and soulfulness. Heart breaking in its rawness and vulnerability. In the end...it always comes down to love
This scene ranks as one of the best most powerful scenes on TV it’s right up there with Al Pacino speech in the college hearing scene in Scent of a Woman. Well Done, Marvelous 👏👏👍👍
I thought this scene was beautiful. I love the fact that John can be tough and harsh one minute and then tender and philosophical the next. Great writing. Great show.
My son died at the age of 17. It was 9 years ago…he lived a perfect life. I hope he knew I loved him very much. But I miss him horribly and still missing. Thank you Yellowstone for having this moment - it is very powerful and emotional acting episode
I cannot imagine losing a child. No one in my family does and to a major degree I am grateful we don’t know that feeling. However I do know the feeling is loss, grief. I know it hits you like a freight train or an 18 wheeler hitting you mentally even physically at times. Some people try to adjust like it never happened or it just overtakes you all the time. That grief is really love with nowhere to go. This scene shows the good comfort he gave to her. That was something she needed and John gave that to her. Thanks for uploading.
I know this was a script to a show, but this scene touched thousands of lives. This is what makes a great show. When it heals those that watch it and speaks to so many. Bravo!
Taylor is one helluva writer. Great words from a rough and stern person, who can relate to Monica's loss; and can, for a brief moment have the most compassion anyone can ever have!
I don't know who wrote this line in the movie.....Best scene from Yellowstone.... Something like..."He led a perfect life. He had a perfect life, even though for a very short time. All that he saw on this planet was you and all he knew was that you loved him. He led a perfect life." That's the Best!!!!! 🙌💜 That helped even 10 and 20 years later after my losses. 🙏
as a father who lost a daughter after a long illness who watch her being held by her mom and she looked up at her mom and utter her last words "Mom Mom Mom" My wife said she held her for her last breath on earth and her first breath in heaven. She spent over 800 days for her life in the hospital , had dozens of surgeries yet was one of the happiest sweetest kids around. She lived a perfect life. This scene is so beautifully written and acted. I wish someone said something like this to me when my daughter passed.
I am glad they are giving Monica a bit of a redemption arc, Monica was always so selfish in her marriage to Casey, it was always about her and no matter what he did for her and her child she refused to give John a break until now. I really really disliked Monica until now.
*PRAYING* this is her turnaround point, and that some positive ground can finally be made with Jamie and Beth. So tired of that soap opera BS. It drags down Beth’s character
How people hate Monica I will never understand, she grew up hearing about the Duttons and she married the good one, she knew what life Casey would live if he went back to the ranch and what life Tate would have if he lived there. She was far from selfish and everything she did in the show was to protect Tate. It’s fucking ludicrous that people hate her for that
My sister just lost her newborn yesterday, two days after his birth. We had hope that he would pull through his ordeal, but it was not to be. The entire family is devastated. My brother shared this perfect clip and it brings some comfort to us, knowing that he did indeed have a perfect life and only knew love for the instant that he was on this planet. Hold your children close, because they are a blessing. There is no pain like this.
That is all of us. That is the way God wanted it. I don't think we'd understand the value of life if all we knew was eternity and eternal life from the get-go.

Because even after this scene she still gives Kayce the ultimatum of either her leaving him or him leaving his family. She is accepted and placated at every turn by the Duttons yet she still loathes them and would rather see them dead and gone. Monica is a terrible person, no ifs or buts about it
@@Taz_XE076 Monica is a terrible person by comparison to whom? The Duttons? A family of abusive, criminal and violent sociopaths and psychopaths? 😒 John literally brands his henchmen with a Y, like some sort of cult leader.
Men don't open up much - it's part of being a man in the real world. So when moments like this present itself it makes it so much more powerful and meaning ful. This isn't to say it a woman can't say some thing powerful or meaningful. It's just hits a bit deeper and harder from a man. My Dad and I had a moment similar to this before he dies. His words and emotions burnt an everlasting trait into me that I am so grateful I can share with my family for the last 20 years.
I stumbled on this video that I had bookmarked. Saw Lioness last night. In the past, I wondered if Taylor could only write westerns. Last night's Lioness with the father (a doctor), daughter in car wreck and more (no spoilers) and Jo... wow. Too big to be angry?! I wish I was able to think like that / speak like that. (so would my kids : )
I love this scene between John and Monica, but as John was walking over the graves of other past Duttons, I was looking for Elsa, James, and some of the other Duttons from the upcoming 1923 lol I’m probably the only one who did that 😅
Having lost my son almost 12 years ago, this was hands down my most powerful, beautiful moment in TV history.
Sorry for your loss
May he rest in peace
Lost a son 13 years ago. The pain dissapates with time but always returns. You just find new ways to cope
I actually found part of what he said surprising for him.
Lost mine 5 months ago at 7 months. Crying everytime i watch this scene. 👼🏻
I didn't expect this from a show, but this truly did impact my life.
John's human side, rarely seen in the series, is on full display here. What a beautiful scene, acting, and sentiment!

I just can't get over how Taylor Sheridan nails it every time. It's uncanny. He is a wise man.
“Every time” is a very big stretch. He’s been on a huge miss with Beth & Jamie, and Monica since Season 2.
You can't give him credit for everything. The actors are all known to go off script or add. Especially Kevin Costner. Also, they're only words on a page and without the acting interpretation, delivery and emotion they're nothing. Sheridan might be gifted even but he doesn't do it alone.
@@ComedyBros5 I don't even like Monica anymore. Seems like all she does in whine.
It’s pretty simple at this point all he has to do is not write woke garbage, but this is one epic scene
@Jarrett I’m right there with you. I really hope this is the moment Monica finally makes some positive character changes and improvements.
Simple words but perfect for the moment. Taylor Sheridan has a gift for writing the perfect thing to say and Kevin Costner have such a heart felt performance. This show brings us back to a simpler time, with good writing and acting. Well done
If someone had said this to me when I lost my baby, it would have really helped. He would have been 29 this summer and it still hurts.
