She’s been acting like she’s mama and she just needs to accept the love. She can make space. Especially since she took him in and started raising him right.
Finn Little does a beautiful job of portraying Carter. Love the character and hope to see more of him in Season 5 as he matures. Carter seems to have the best combination of qualities to lead the Dutton Ranch in the future, if it survives.
The second Beth stopped after he called her mama, I honestly cried. She will never get to know that feeling of being a parent from a child of her own. Jaime took that away from her; plain and simple. Carter saw her as that and sadly, what Beth said is true that she is not his mother. I just wish she approached the situation differently with him. I wish she took him to the side saying, “Carter, as much as it pains me to say this to you, I am not your mother. Please don’t call me that ever again. However I am your friend, Carter. You can count on that.” Thanks for uploading.
@@gandres_07 Yes I have. Although that is not how the character Beth operates. Absolutely she can adopt Carter and he can call her mom. However at the end of the day, Beth knows she is not his real mother. Beth is a realist. And being one of the bloodlines to Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, Beth cannot give another line to the ranch like Kasey and Jaime can. Adopting Carter would be amazing and Beth can ensure Carter has a place at the ranch but when it comes to what Beth, Jaime and Kasey does for the ranch, Carter cannot do that. Although Carter can be the next Rip Wheeler of the business. A good hard working hand that is loyal beyond a shadow of a doubt.
She can be very black and white. A biological mom does not make you a mom roght away... just like family it is not always by blood... She too hung up on not able to have a baby and her own mother died. It stands in the way of something beautifull and fullfilling.. so sad....
@@TheRealDeal92 "And being one of the bloodlines to Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, Beth cannot give another line to the ranch like Kasey and Jaime can" Jaime is adopted. If you're arguing that Beth cannot provide a pure heir then the only one who can is Kayce.
That one scene where Beth tells Carter she is not his Momma, to me is her most powerful scene. you can tell it broke her telling him that, yet knows it's for the best.
Jerry Lee "Funny that Beth doesn't want the title of mother, but she has been a mother to the whole family from Episode 1. Respect" Edit: "Chase" corrected to read "Kayce" Jerry Lee, "respect" for sure👍🏼, but maybe for a different reason. She's more of a leader, 2nd to her dad, of the family. She would have been the tough no non sense son, if she had been a boy. She just seemed to have stepped up to assuming a leadership roll. Kayce, for a long time after getting out the military, wanted little and nothing to do with involving himself and his family with the ranch, much less to being eventual heir and leader. Jamie was essentially brought on board as a youngster and "adopted" into the family by John as a "son". Taylor Sheridan, writes ALL the dialogue for all his shows including Yellowstone and the actors deliver the lines as written...with no deviations or improvisations. I mention that, because like many viewers, there may be a character the just gets on your nerves or we think that they need to be "gone". All that is in Taylor's hands. I have a theory about Beth. I see Beth as the Dutton family "Fixer". She is almost a superwoman, but like Superwoman or Superman, she can't be everywhere and "fix" everything, every time. Her "Kryptonite" may be that she doesn't believe she cannot "fix" everything. She seems to thrive on attacking problems and people. If she had been a guy,. she would have probably made a good special forces operator. People say that Beth is being seen too much lately in recent episodes. I'm wondering if it is a set us up to find her finally overwhelmed from trying to "fix" too many things. Beth is devoted her dad and all things Yellowstone. Between John and Rip, Rip is the one who has a way of reaching and talking sense to Beth. It may be Rip who may have to be there to "catch" Beth, if and when she hits her saturation point. She isn't going to be an example of a mother, in Carter's life, but he is observing that there is more to her than most see, based on her interaction and relationship with Rip. My apologies for blathering on so much.
Seeing how Carter has grown on the ranch is nice. I wanna see him and Tate interacting. I think they would be good for each other. And when Rip told Carter that they don't get rid of orphans on this ranch and the way Rip looked at him made me happy.
@@Link.dg1 it's interesting to see what's gonna happen next when it resumes in the Summer. The season was just starting to get good. I thought it was gonna shoe the reunion with Jimmy before it ended. But oh well.
I love the grandfather energy of John's. Grumpy grumpy man towards everyone, even his own kids. But the way he interacts with his biological grandchildren, and Beth's "foster child" is a totally different man. I don't know why but even the grumpiest fathers tend to turn so very soft when they interact with the kids of their kids. Like completely different people.
So true! Growing up, my father was a VERY strict man with us, when the grandkids came, I was shocked to see a completely different soft side of him in how he interacted with them.
At first I thought they were being incredibly abusive to him. But then I realized he never had a figure in his life to teach him tough love and be truly parented. The way they do it is probably the best way unfortunately.
Idk if Kenzie meant making him work. which was definitely good for him. Beth was too hard on him in the store, but she has her own anger issues and he upset her by responding to the woman accusing her of abuse. I'm glad they worked it out, and he now has numerous different adults to look after him and teach him different things.

I worked with a lot of kids like Carter, which is a sad statement on our society. The writing on this show is spectacular, and the actors bring it to life in an amazing way. That scene where Beth and Carter meet, and she takes on the role of "friend of family" is something.. All she has lived through goes through her mind, and all she watched Rip go through, and she realizes at that moment Carter is at a fork in the road, and she steps up, stretches way beyond her comfort zone and enters his world. She fires out at that doctor with both barrels, and claims her position with all the force she has. I didn't see that happen but once or twice This is what makes her character so interesting. Something tells me we will see Carter get a haircut this season, we will see him grow a bit, and he might show signs of understanding the chance he has been given, both good and bad. I think he will embrace it all full tilt, like kids do, especially desperate ones...and then as clarity comes, he will come to understand exactly what it means.
She is his mama, but, since she can never have children, it is too painful for her to adopt the title. But, regardless of what she says, she is his mama - mama by choice - now and until the end of time. And Lord help anyone who tries to do him wrong while she still walks the earth.
John at some point explained, that he calls Jamie his 'son' because John did everything that was in his power to earn this role. Beth and Rip not wanting to be called Mom/Dad by Carter, is because they wouldn't call him their 'son' (yet).
Omg this is exactly what happened to me, except no one saved me. Parents died when I was a child, and it took me decades, decades, to dig myself out from that hole.
Sending you so many hugs ❤️ my older brother died 12 years ago (yesterday) back when I was 19 in a motorcycle crash, and my mom died this past November from non smoker’s lung cancer. I thought nothing in the world could compare to the pain of losing my brother so suddenly, but losing my mom, who was such a beautiful soul to such a dreadful disease so gradually cut me deep in ways I never imagined. My dad and I are still coming to terms with the sudden loss of her, four months after she was diagnosed. I hope things ever only go up from here for you filled with joy and light❤️.
“3. You work really, really, fucking hard. You learn. You fail. Learn more. Fail more. And don’t let anyone outwork you. Ever.” I’d rather be someone who fails often, than someone who wins often. I gain more from failure than I do from winning.
That's a stupid argument. U fail, then u learn, and with learnings u eventually wins something. So every winner had more failures than you, because they out work, out fail, out learn you. You have failed to fail often therefore please don't bullshit about your failure. You are just lazy.
Underneath all of the strength from her father, I feel like she really just secretly wants to be the woman her mother wasn’t and to have the family she never got to have
The way things are set, Yellowstone could have a storyline set for about 10-15 years. The Tate-Carter dynamic is exciting to me, if done right. Could be Tate vs Carter too. I hope this is explored
@@Mark-ki7ic a scenario that intrigues me is if Tate’s mom’s side influences him into taking control of the ranch and letting them settle on it and Carter (the outsider) steps up for the Duttons to lead the fight to regain it
I just hope they dont put Tate against Carter as i think it would be a bad thing in my opinion. If it happens i think it may partially ruin the story line between those 2 characters. I dont see how it would actually add anything positive and really just kind of be a bad bump in the road. I think it would almost be a obligatory story line that really wouldnt do any good or add more to the show.. just my open ended opinion.
Now I'm imagining Carter meeting Tate. The two enjoying each other's company as time passes. Carter being an older brother figure for Tate; and maybe showing him how to play a little poker.

I love Beth, such a deliciously complex character. It came so naturally to her to love Carter as her own but part of her can't fully accept in. Easiness with which that "Hey,. baby" came out of her scared the life out of someone who doesn't get scared. I only wish Carter had come back with something like "You are still my family" or calling her Aunt Beth.
Oh shut up this is why kids are so out of control and nowadays because everyone thinks that children need to be coddled know they f****** don't they need hard work they don't need you to baby them especially if you have boys stopped doing it cuz you're ruining our society these are the type of man and woman we need in our society strong
One of the thing I really love in this serie is the deep complexity of the characters…. Beside the beautiful mountains. People think Beth is harsh but I do understand her. I am also the kind of person who don’t take bullshit. .. and I don’t gave bullshit. I like children and I can show compassion for them as their are innocent . But if I am not willing to take a bullet for them, I am not their mom. Giving them a roof, food and cares are not enough to claim i am their mom. For me, a mother is infinite and inconditionnal love. Simple.
One reason I hated Rip this season was the way he treated Carter at first. Yeah, Carter had some issues, but he deserved better than what he's been given so far in his life. You would think someone like Rip would be very understanding of where Carter is coming from, so I don't know why he was too hard on Carter early on.
Rip came from the same exact home carter did. All rip did was start treating the boy like John did him. You didn’t see rip in the main house or even the bunk house when he was younger. Rip even told carter the same phrases John told younger rip. Johns parenting must of been good for rip because look where it put him. The right hand man of the ranch next to Johns real sons. Beth realized being too nice to the kid wasn’t gonna help. (When they wore in the store) so he she told rip to get at him with tough love. Now look at carter. Respectful, doesn’t cuss, cleans himself up and appreciates the small things.
You guys make good points and arguments. But for me, Rip is trying his best to be the parental figure Carter needed. Mixing tough love may not be the best way to raise a child, but when encouragement and support is added, (especially with a "friendly" game of poker) Carter may grow up to be a better person.
Rip knows breaking wild horses and has had to earn every inch he’s gained. In his eyes, I think that’s the only way he sees it. He’s watched kids get off east and turn into Jamie. He says at one point (not verbatim), “that kid doesn’t need new clothes. He needs to learn how to work”. It’s telling because that’s exactly how he learned from John Dutton. During the show, you notice that nobody can lander to John Dutton’s feelings. When Carter tells him that he made Beth mad, instead of saying “I’ll talk to her”, he said, “well I guess you better sort that out”. Rip had no leniency and so he doesn’t offer any.
Doesn't need new clothes, what a stupid remark with Carter going day after day in the same ones. Seriously, there's no need to be a jerk to the kid because you had it rough and Beth wasn't being "too nice" by trying to buy him something he needed; I don't think she's capable of being too soft. Carter's doing well bc he's a naturally decent person and he's had kindness as well as discipline, from different adults. Rip alone would not have helped.
It saddens me that Beth doesn't want to be Carter's Mama, When John thought of Rip as a son when he gave him the cabin. It's the same dynamic, hopefully we see this relationship bloom in the new season. Especially when Carter comes off as a young Rip all over again.
The “morning, Mama” and “Hey, Baby” seemed so natural. Like it just rolled off their tongues. Like they didn’t even have to rehearse it. It made my heart full. Imagine that kid doesn’t cope, and turns to drugs instead. A lot of addicts are there because of severe trauma like this kid went through, where addiction runs in the family
She let her guard down for one SECOND, and said "Hey Baby" from her heart. Then she closed back up. 😔
She’s been acting like she’s mama and she just needs to accept the love. She can make space. Especially since she took him in and started raising him right.
She's so gangster it hurts lol
Rip and Beth " would make great parents !
even with this being a Carter highlight, I can't help but think... god damn Kelly Reilly is an amazing actress
Totally draws u in to the story, scene! So does everyone else too, great cast! 👏
Yessss, she is amazing!!!
Introducing this kid into this group was genious! He adds emotion the others do not add the same!
It genuinely warmed my heart seeing Rip,Beth and Carter sitting around the table eating supper.
Finn Little does a beautiful job of portraying Carter. Love the character and hope to see more of him in Season 5 as he matures. Carter seems to have the best combination of qualities to lead the Dutton Ranch in the future, if it survives.
I really like Carter can't wait for season 5
When, Carter said, "Good Morning, Momma" when, Beth walked past him through the horse stalls, my heart just fell and cried for, Carter.....
The hospital room scene was 2:30 minutes long. There was so much packed into that scene. From strangers to friends to family.
Just when you think it can't get better they add Carter.
Never heard of an adoption?
It stands in the way of something beautifull and fullfilling.. so sad....
@@TheRealDeal92 "And being one of the bloodlines to Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, Beth cannot give another line to the ranch like Kasey and Jaime can"
Jaime is adopted. If you're arguing that Beth cannot provide a pure heir then the only one who can is Kayce.
@@TheRealDeal92 except that John thinks of Rip as a son - more so than Jamie (who himself is adopted) . You are completely wrong and confused.
You have Beth as a Mom, Rip as your dad Carter as your son. Perfect family.
That one scene where Beth tells Carter she is not his Momma, to me is her most powerful scene. you can tell it broke her telling him that, yet knows it's for the best.
I love it. Not only does it show how she feels about herself but how carter gotten so comfy with her 😢❤
Whats that episode?
Love it. Beth: "Lady, you crave trouble. You just don't want resistance. If you don't want resistance around here, you just mind your own business.""

@@sonofizzy Oh of course. That's the key word.
This needs to be said to every Karen who tries to poke her nose in shit
Funny that Beth doesn't want the title of mother, but she has been a mother to the whole family from Episode 1. Respect 🤠
Jerry Lee "Funny that Beth doesn't want the title of mother, but she has been a mother to the whole family from Episode 1. Respect"
Edit: "Chase" corrected to read "Kayce"
Jerry Lee, "respect" for sure👍🏼, but maybe for a different reason.
She *does* want the life of a mother. She just doesn't want others to think/know that she does, lest she be be seen as weak.
Not the responsibility just to do an stop when wants to
True
Seeing how Carter has grown on the ranch is nice. I wanna see him and Tate interacting. I think they would be good for each other. And when Rip told Carter that they don't get rid of orphans on this ranch and the way Rip looked at him made me happy.

Beause they don't have to be the Disciplinarian as much as the parents do. So maybe they can become their grandchildren's friends.
Not unfortunately. He was tough already but had zero self worth, having to earn something set him up for life.
Idk if Kenzie meant making him work. which was definitely good for him. Beth was too hard on him in the store, but she has her own anger issues and he upset her by responding to the woman accusing her of abuse. I'm glad they worked it out, and he now has numerous different adults to look after him and teach him different things.
Yeah it's like he just doesn't respect boundaries or know his place , like with the shirt
And Beth don't play n going to pull that shirt off of him n let him know, it's my way or the high way! Tough love, well striped! I truly love this show 👏♥️

You don't sound like Carter, he started listening to them before the shirt incident.
His last words to his father were so epic!
Boy the look on Carter's face when she says she's not his momma kills me...
I didn't see that happen but once or twice
This is what makes her character so interesting.
Dam ! Well said! U have the gift of gab, heartfelt 👏♥️
Beautifully put 👍
She is his mama, but, since she can never have children, it is too painful for her to adopt the title. But, regardless of what she says, she is his mama - mama by choice - now and until the end of time. And Lord help anyone who tries to do him wrong while she still walks the earth.
Wait... Why does he have to get a haircut?!
I bet he becomes a Michael Corleone type of character.
Love the part at the beginning, where Beth is sitting on the bench, and it says thank you for not smoking, and yet she lights one up!
But ur still here to speak bro, Survivor! ♥️👏
Sorry but you made it
Sending you so many hugs ❤️ my older brother died 12 years ago (yesterday) back when I was 19 in a motorcycle crash, and my mom died this past November from non smoker’s lung cancer.

Absolutely right! “You give flowers for no reason” ❤
“3. You work really, really, fucking hard. You learn. You fail. Learn more. Fail more. And don’t let anyone outwork you. Ever.”
I’d rather be someone who fails often, than someone who wins often.
Ive been searching for these scenes on youtube for months. Brings back so many memories. Top class acting Well Done.
Underneath all of the strength from her father, I feel like she really just secretly wants to be the woman her mother wasn’t and to have the family she never got to have
When Beth told him not to call her mom, it sort of broke my heart. And then they never addressed it. Wtf.

The way things are set, Yellowstone could have a storyline set for about 10-15 years. The Tate-Carter dynamic is exciting to me, if done right. Could be Tate vs Carter too. I hope this is explored
Hope Carter turns into Rip for Tates Kaycee
Yes! I'm real excited and interested to see how theor dynamic goes

Simple.
In season 5 forgot the episode he casually now calls Carter her" Baby"
@B Henry Rip wanted to ensure that the kid grew up straight and right. Looks to me that he is doing a good job.
When carter is playin cards and rip behind him smiling reminds me of me and my dad when we played cards with hands on our ranch or with family
That song they play when they're eating is so beautiful
My favorite part is when she compliments his style and when he denies having any. She corrects him, cause it’s hers too.
I've never even seen this show and I'm in love with all 3.
This TV show gives us exactly the clips we want!
It saddens me that Beth doesn't want to be Carter's Mama, When John thought of Rip as a son when he gave him the cabin. It's the same dynamic, hopefully we see this relationship bloom in the new season. Especially when Carter comes off as a young Rip all over again.
That visceral reaction is hard to ignore.
This whole arc made me REALLY love Beth.
Poor Carter 🥹 He tries. They’ll come around, they always do.
