    I'm new to digital art and sketchbook- can you show us how to paint/color a drawing? The light and shading layers you showed us helped, but I don't understand coloring in this program. Maybe it's my blending? It looks so harsh. What brushes do you recommend for coloring and blending skin, eyes and hair?

    Thanks for caption addition. As with most training video it's common to replay each short element a couple times before going on. But I really wish there was a way to circle or emphasize where each feature is that you are discussing. The cursor was very small and it moved quickly. Other than that your editing and quick coverage has consolidated an amazing amount of information that we viewers have the time to watch over and over. Thanks.

    • @PerryPictures
      @PerryPictures  3 роки тому +1

      I’m not seeing a clear cut way to do it on iPad, however a work around you could try is to write down the HSL code by selecting each of the colors in your palette and clicking over to the HSL tab. The code for the number will be listed to the bottom right (3 digits for H, 2 digits for S, and 2 digits for L). This way you can get an exact color match anywhere you choose to use your hand written color codes. I hope this helps 😊

    Great job on the video training!!! I watch a lot of youtubes on how to do things and I will tell you, you did a fantastic job! I am wanting to be able to trace my photos and then use them for a quilt. Do you have a specific video on tracing a photo? The layering tool will be so helpful for what I am wanting.

    • @PerryPictures
      @PerryPictures  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Sandra, I'd be happy to help! check these timestamps to do the following steps in this order - A: import photo (2:25) B: lower the photo layers opacity to around 30% or so (16:44) whichever is light enough for you to still see the picture but also distinguish how your tracing layer looks as you draw. C: create a new layer on top of the photo layer to do your tracing/drawing (1:57) and D: I would suggest also using the line stabilization tool from (6:48) in the video. This will help your line art look cleaner and more confident. Make sure to save your progress as a .TIFF file (preserves your layers as separate layers that you can still edit if you close and reopen your work later) by going to File > Save As > and choose where to save your file. When you're finished with your drawing you can hide or delete the photo layer in the layer editor and save / export your finished artwork (I recommend saving the final as a PNG).

    Hello again, its David. I would like to ask if you know.., if I complete a piece, (and have a colour palette which I have created for said piece), is there a way I can export said piece INCLUDING the colour pallet I have created? I want to email the project to others so when they open it, it will be there ready for them to create their own works of art based on what I have given them. Yes it is to coach and encourage people who are new to digital art with disabilities, (people with chalanges). :o). Thank you for your help!

    • @PerryPictures
      @PerryPictures  3 роки тому +1

      Hi David, I am always happy to help. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to export your color palette with your tiff or psd, but what I’d recommend as an alternative is creating a color swatch on a new layer that they can use eyedropper on, and exporting that as part of the file. I know it’s not a perfect method but I hope it helps

    • @PerryPictures
      @PerryPictures  3 роки тому

      hello, that sounds frustrating Im sorry youre dealing with that. Are you using a Mac, PC, tablet or mobile? If you're using a Mac, perhaps try adjusting the "stylist responsiveness" slider under the Edit drop down menu and see if that helps to reset your cross hairs. Another way to correct this could be to click SketchBook on your top toolbar and select "preferences" from the drop down menu. For Windows, select Edit > Preferences, then tap the Brush tab. For either device once you get into the p references menu, on the Brush Cross-hair section, you can select one of the following options to reset your brush cursor appearance or to hide the cursor, by clicking Do not display cross-hair. I hope one of these adjustments help.

      I’m not sure… I would hope not since the software is great for drawing (when it is working). I found a solution for this issue on the autodesk forums at this link: forums.autodesk.com/t5/sketchbook-forum/can-t-pan-in-sketchbook-only-scrolls/td-p/8043649 that differentiates the windows tablet version from the desktop version. At the bottom another user mentions the crosshairs issue and which variant of the program they’re using. There may be even better advice on this topic in other threads on the forums as well. I know it’s not a great answer but I do hope it helps

      Ok sounds like you’re asking about exporting your art. This might differ depending on which device you’re drawing on (Mac, Windows, mobile etc) but go to the toolbar at the top of the screen and If it’s windows, click the menu icon on the left, do not use save or save as, use export instead there you can name your drawing and pick a location and different file types than just the Tiff (I am finishing up a windows tutorial tomorrow and will post that ASAP which I think may help). if it’s a Mac click file > save as > name your drawing and be sure to select file type and location before clicking save. I hope this helps. Feel free to ask more questions or let me know if you still need help.

      If you are using a drawing tablet, you can flip the stylist and using the eraser end and it automatically switches to erase. Alternatively click on the eraser icon in the brush library window. Autodesk doesn’t have a hot key for eraser right now but on their forum they’ve acknowledged the request for one and say they’re working on adding it.

    I do have a question, hope you will see this. I recently bought a drawing pad and downloaded sketchbook to draw with. When I first set up my pad and sketchbook everything worked awesome. I was messing around trying to figure things out and now for some reason the sensitivity of my pen to pad isn't working correctly. I barely touch the pad, the line is the same as if I press really hard. Is there a setting I messed up in the sketchbook program or is it my pen. Thank you...

    • @PerryPictures
      @PerryPictures  3 роки тому

      It’s possible that the advanced brush properties (at 3:50 in the video) were all boosted to 💯 or reduced for light and heavy pressure so that the pressure sensitivity lacks variation. If that’s not the case then it may be something to do with your pad and pens settings in its own software. I hope this helps. Feel free to follow up with any additional questions if you run into more

      So glad it was helpful! I have used both the wacom bamboo tablet and the wacom intuos pro and both worked well with the software. This tutorial was made with a Mac, which works great, but I've also used the software and drawing tablets with PC with excellent results. On the go I also have used an iPad with Apple Pencil and the Autodesk Sketchbook app, and the quality of my drawings has remained consistent across platforms. The app itself however does have minor format difference depending on which device you use, and I plan to cover those differences in a future video.
