This was a really good tutorial, last year I missed out on sketching and improving my skills as I had to leave my engineering job for a job in IT for better pay and personal financial reasons and I barely got time or had the energy. This year I have to be really serious with it if I want to make a career out of it. Your videos have always been a breath of motivation. Thank you ✌️

what i do to get rid of color outside the lines is bucket fill with transparent color outside the linework, this is definitely a cleaner way of going about it though so i'll have to give it a try

Happy New Year! Greetings from Hong Kong, I don't usually comment on UA-cam videos but I thought I would give it a shot. First of all, thank you for making these videos on Sketchbook as I've found yours to be very helpful for ID digital sketching especially during these weird times (your tutorials got me started on the software and secure 1st place in a recent design competition!).
I'm not sure if it works for everyone but I found that if you tap on your sketch with the bucket tool a second time (after filling in your shape with color the first time) it would help get rid of those white lines that you talked about having to manually fill in the video. Let me know if it ends up working for you too.
Something that would be cool to learn (as I am currently an ID student myself) is how to prepare and clean up your paper/analogue sketches on Photoshop and being able to present them in a neat collage on a portfolio/website/social media page. I've tried finding tutorials online but they have been hard to execute/follow on my own, especially for the way that I am looking to do it in the end (if that makes any sense). A method/perspective from an Industrial Design standpoint would be really cool to see/learn!
Apologies for the really long comment! Looking forward to your future videos, the gaming channel sounds like an awesome idea especially during these times! Take care!

Thank you for you in depth comment and congratulations on the 1st prise, I'm very honored that you think my tutorials helped 😊
That bucket clicking trick might help I used it in photoshop but never tried it in sketchbooks will give it a go! I use the lasso tool most of the time.

    PS really excellent tutorials.. thanks

    • @robertlkiss
      @robertlkiss  2 роки тому

My problem with that method is that after the second fill the soft edges of the outer line will be gone and most of the time I don't want that. It could give you issues if you wanna work without lines, or sometimes the extra thickness pokes out from underneath the lines.

@@kausthubhtsr9636 yeah I see your problem. I started out with a Graphire tablet that was smaller than even A5 I think. You will have to zoom in and do the details sooner or later for which you will use your wrist but the more you can do of the drawing while zoomed out the more you can use your wrists. I use a work timer that makes me take 10 second breaks every 10 minutes you might do something like that to remind yourself to not strain your writ to much. You have do the selection on the previous layer, where you created your "mask" shape, then switch back to the layer where you did the new drawing/rendering part. If there is a selection and you hit delete or backspace it will only eraise stuff within the selection.

I have a question about CMYK. Since Sketchbook is not supporting CMYK colors, how do you export the drawings?
I usually convert them in InDesign into CMYK. But I realised that my paintings look really different, when I print them out.
How do you solve this problem?
    Greetings from Switzerland!

Hey David. I don't print from sketchbook. I mostly do digital work so everything I do stays RGB. But in general for client work I always switch to photoshop once the line work is done. Sketchbook rendering I do mostly for myself.

I know in photoshop there's a tool called Warp, how can I do the same sort of thing in Sketchbook? Like for instance, I'm drawing a lizard, but I want his tail to be touching the ground and I made it too high. How can I pull it down and make it the right shape and position?

Actually I don't really have many procreate brushes that I made myself. I made a procreate brush video where I showed how to make a sketching brush. That, an airbrush and a hard brush are my most used brushes.

I basically used the magic wand to make the white background transparent (by deleting it) and that leaves me with only the letters. @@robertlkiss Honestly I am a 3D artist (level designer and environment artist) and every time someone asks me to do a digital concept art or similar, my small black heart dies a bit (but my wallet grows a bit larger). I generally just think of what I want to make, and if I really need to, I just draw a layout of a level by hand using simple blocks and then get to work (I generally do not even do this, just think of where everything should go and memorize it, saves me a few days of work). You can then imagine how something like painting a digital picture is really draining on me since I am used to a totally different methods and pipeline. I honestly do not have the patience for it to the level where I learned how to make procedural textures in order to bypass the drawing part... My hat is off to you sir, you have the patience of a buddhist monk!
