  • The United States Army Field Band performs the famous Civil War-era piece, "The Battle Hymn of the Republic."
    Lyrics: Julia Ward Howe
    Music: William Steffe
    Setting: Peter J. Wilhousky
    Arrangement: James Neilson
    Conductor: 1st Lt. Alexandra Borza
    Lyrics
    Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord;
    He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored;
    He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword;
    His truth is marching on.
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    Glory! Glory! Hallelujah!
    His truth is marching on.
    I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps;
    They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
    I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
    His day is marching on.
    In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
    With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me;
    As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free!
    While God is marching on.

    I am not american, I'm a Brit, but I love the way you revere your Armed forces and respect those who serve. Our 2 countries have been through so much together, and we'll continue to stand together as friends and allies. May God bless America, and May He bless the special relationship that prevails between the USA and the UK.

    Our family chose the Battle Hymn of Republic to be sung when my brother's flag drapped casket was to be carried out of church by U.S. Army Honor Guard to his final resting place. My brother was a Civil War reenactor and a member of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard who passed away in Afghanistan while in service to his country. God bless you Christopher and all the men and women who have perished defending are way of life. Freedom is not free.

    My grandfather lied about his age and joined the United States Army at the age of 14. He served this country for 44 years before he retired. I remember him playing this song all the time while I was growing up and even up until his last days. This song reminds me of my him every time I hear it. He was always proud of his military career, but most of all, we were proud of him.

    My late husband would sing this on road trips. It was played at his funeral and we all stood and sang the chorus. He loved God and served his Country. He was marching into Glory. I treasure the flag given to me that day. God bless America. May his Truth live on in USA. Edited May 14, 2023. Live on all over the globe.

    My great great grandfather walked the Trail of Tears to Indian Territory when he was 7 yrs old. His mother died at the hands of the US Army along the way. They lost everything and he and his father started life all over. His Faith kept him strong and when The Civil War broke out, he found Forgiveness, joined the North and fought in The Indian Homeguard. My family always looks back to the hard way of finding Forgiveness that he must had come to terms with. We are Indians. But, we are nobody's victim! God Bless your spirit, Grandpa John.

    This song never fails to bring me to tears. When I was playing the flute and piccolo in the Army uniform my heart would swell with pride. I retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1999 after 26 years Active and Reserve to become a Sister but the Sergeant is still very much a part of me. God bless America ❤🙏🇺🇸

    This song makes me want to liberate a hundred plantations. "As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free" is the best and most inspiring lyricism I've ever heard and ever will hear. Heroes fought for that.

    Not a note out of tune, nor a note out of beat. Pure beauty and precision. That exemplifies the essence of the United States military!!
