    I used the paint I got from Marshal for 15$ for 2 years. I used it for so many painting and didn’t know the difference from artist paint. To be honest, watercolor paper is the most important thing that you need to invest. Don’t let the cost of paint intimidate you, start with the cheap paint first and slowly upgrade if you feel you need to

    Great video!! It was surprising to me hearing that Van Gogh looked more chalky in comparison to Koi, my understanding of chalkiness is that it is more like a "feel" or a texture once the paint is dry. For instance, Koi watercolors when more concentrated but still rather thinly it can develop a chalky feel to it. I think I have tried Van Gogh like maybe just once in my life but I remember they felt almost like an artist grade watercolor, yes they are not as transparent but they don't feel or look chalky whatsoever! That's my understanding:) maybe i'm totally wrong since English isn't my first language either but let me know if I'm mistaken! Keep it up with the great content🤩

    What a great review! Your video is the best properly evaluated tests I have seen so far. Thank you for posting! I used tape to keep my Cotmans in the box and a few drops of water in the pans to adhere the blocks of paint in it. I read blogs where pros say they use all grades of paint and that most quality watercolors are mounted behind glass. Personally, I've had unframed watercolors I did over 40 years ago that were stuck in a folder. They barely faded at all and looked amazingly well preserved. I used a cheap watercolor to paint those!

    Hi I have heard that you reply to comments but you don't have to do it ;), I am having an art block these days any advice on that because I am pretty much kind of new as I discovered the amazingness of watercolours just this year but I know about them as my father is a professional (by an official degrees) an painter he also has taken classes of sketching but it makes me sad he do anything with it as he is always busy so my mum says being an artist is useless and it will bring me nothing in the real world .p's. I'm 13

    • @Makoccino
      @Makoccino  5 років тому +1

      If you think about it, everything you see in the world started with an idea and a sketch! People design products, houses, posters, furniture, other beautiful things that you use daily! It's easy to say that an art degree is useless, because people usually don't realize how much is possible with that! Depending on which direction you choose, you can always do something art related! If someone thinks something is not possible, it's only a reflection of their limitations, not yours!

    I really like your videos, but I am a bit disappointed here. You seem to be biased towards WN. I know it's easiest to find in the US and probably the cheapest, but it is clearly way less vibrant and it is the hardest to rewet than the other ones and the Van Gogh is not as opaque as you made it sound. I don't know if you had a bad batch or if they changed the composition, but my set is defiantly more transparent than that apart from a light blue that is not present in your set (and that had white mixed in).

      Mako you chose really interesting and relevant brand palettes to compare. I enjoyed your vid and think that one will always have a ‘soft spot’ for the brand or palette one starts with. It was good , and right , that you disclosed which one you used at the start. I started with Van Gogh and still love them and find myself picking up these paints when I see them for a good price (as in practice they are very high quality ) even though I use Windsor and Newton professional which are extremely pigmented and transparent.
