Thank you, am 74 year female have wanted to do art for a very long time in fact the very first time i ever picked up a pencil & started to draw, have decided to do some art with a small group . Was very confused about brushes, but you have made it I little easier.
I bought two sets on sale years ago, one for watercolor and one for acrylic, but both are cheap and small with no large brushes and the hair falls out a lot, I rarely buy new brushes but I just paint anyway, it just doesn't work exactly how I want sometimes. I can't buy natural hair brushes anyway because it's warm here and we have lots of bugs and I can never keep bugs out of anything with animal fibers (r.i.p. all my sweaters...)
I Can’t help but think putting together all this info and research about watercolor brushes was A LOT of work. Thanks for putting in the work for us tho👌👍🏻👍🏻this vid had some helpful tips😉
Happy Saturday! I'm back with a highly requested video! I really hope this will answer some of your questions! There were a ton of others but I didn't want to make this video too long so I will cover more questions in future videos! But let me know if you have any specific questions I should cover next!
I would like to know how you take care of your brushes. Like do you wash them with soap, where to put them to dry properly and things like that :) But first of all, thanks for this Video it was very helpful !
I haven’t watched the whole video yet but I already know it’s going to be helpful. I haven’t tried watercolor yet and I’ve been thinking about trying it out but I want to know everything about it first 😊
Aaaaah brushes.......my mother is an artist so we have lots in the house. I noticed that a good quality brush with nice bristles, a fine tip and a firm wooden handle will reward you in so many ways, that after a while I started thinking their price is actually cheap considering how practical they are...I am a natural hater of synthetic brushes, we don't see eye to eye he he Also if you consider brushes a family, the fan brush would be the punk rock cousin with the tomahawk 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for this crystallization of watercolor brush experience! 🖼🎨👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻✨👏🏻
I love these videos you make to give us some art tips! When you show the difference between Watercolour, Gouache and Acrylics. Or when you show the difference between Watercolour pans, tubes and liquids. It helps us a load! Thanks a lot, Mako for being so amazing!
My all purpose watercolour brush is a squirrel round size 10 one by Paul Ruben. I like my other brushes, but I always grab that one for my paintings. It has a lovely point but can hold a ton of water or paint. If I had to choose one brush to use forever, that would the one
I recently dusted off a chinese calligraphy set I got years ago and turns out the brushes work pretty nicely with watercolors~ So Mako, I was wondering if you'd like to try calligraphy brushes in one of your videos and give your opinion on them? However, if these brushes' materials conflict with any principles of yours, that's okay too so no pressure.
This was so much information, put together clearly and simply. I wanted to start painting as a hobby- 33 and never done anything “artsy” before, just wanted to give it a shot, but it seemed so overwhelming. I’ve really loved your videos!
Thank you! I finally bought watercolor brushes and I immediately noticed a difference. The bristles didn't drip the water off. It became glossy instead as if it was holding the water. I also felt more control over the direction, size, and flow of my strokes ^___^ Thanks for all that you're doing!
I have a super fine hogs hair rigger brush that I adore. It has a fine toe that allows for the finest lines and details and after to gets damp it snaps into place so well. I mainly use it for animal hairs and eye shines, or when I want to add very carefully controlled amounts of paint. I got it in a pack of Derwent academy hogs hair watercolour brushes, and it's pretty much the only brush from that pack I use consistently. I generally use waterbrush pens when I paint, but the rigger is used in all my portraits
You are teaching me so much about brushes. Thx mako! Last year, my winsor and newton watercolor brushes broke sadly because I put them in the water for long periods of time. So then I learned how to use it better. But you really showed me how it works so that is awesome. I saw your Instagram and well and I love it to- you are great! and keep the amazing art work and techniques :)
I just bought a liner brush and it is honesty life changing. I just found out that there's a shop in our locality who make their own brushes. I am blown away!!!
Thank you soo much! This video is so helpful, I used to draw for many years and recently want to pick up this artistic side of me by learning watercolor.
This was super helpful! I've been looking exactly for this kind of explanation! Haven't read a guide that explained it better than you did. You explained it so thouroughly and concisely I felt I learned so much! Will definitely look out for your other videos. :) Thanks so much for this!
Thank you so much for making this video! I'm just starting out with watercolour and I honestly have no idea what some brushes are for. After watching this, I have a better idea now.
Your videos are the most helpful to me as a beginner, even more helpful than paid classes. So just saying thank you for your informative and relaxing videos!
I just recently started watercoloring and I’m so glad I found you on UA-cam!! You are so amazing. This was a perfect video to watch before I head to the art store!❤️
I came to the comments not only to thank you for this great video but also for the fact that your description is so complete and I actually have no further questions ❤️
HI MAKO......THANKS FOR SUCH AN INFORMATIVE VIDEO....CAN YOU MAKE ANOTHER VIDEO LIKE THIS TELLING ABOUT OTHER TYPES OF BRUSHES LIKE DEER FOOT,EGBERT BRUSHES ETC
I just started out with painting landscapes because of corona to relieve some stress (and it's mighty amazing). Basically still using a cheap watercolour set for school but got a few quality brushes. I think one can use those really cheap flat brushes for school-use kind of as a rake and for mixing colors (flat, pig hair, I think? Very hard bristles, I use them for acrylics).
Your all videos are always inspiring for beginners as I am . And today by showing difference between brushes it literally helped me a lot...... THANK YOU
Cheers mako! Excellent video. Here was me thinking I HAD to go for natural hair brushes to get the best results but now I know to hold off on that until I get a bit of practice in/decide if this really is something I want to pursue. It's been the price of the natural hair brushes has stopped me from starting so far. Gotta get some shopping done - wahoo! Cheers
Yayy! Nowadays there are sooo many good synthetic brushes! I think only if you are super expert and look for THE brush, you might notice a little tiny difference 😂
I've never thought about the anatomy of a brush before, but i always wondered what the difference between water color brushes and acrylic brushes #makoficationsquad
"Interesting Video" -- As I just upgraded my brushes. And they didn't cost that much either. Because they were on sale. (by Artist Loft.) Which did not say why the handles are different colors. So this video was very useful. -- "Thanks!" :)
Thank you for this video!! Exactly what I need! This is very informative esp for people like me who knows nothing about watercolor and just starting out. Thank you!!
Oh my goodness! I am speechless 😯...I was waiting for the past half an hour for your video and was wondering if you would post a video like this...I often have this problem, thankful for making us aware of this... loving to be a part of the #makoficationsquad 😘, You're the best Mako!!! Love you 😘
Very useful video, thanks for that. Can u make a video on how to store the brush after painting. I have spoiled many brushes by not maintianing properly
THANKS FOR THE GOOD INFO AND SUBSCRIBED....AND I HAVE BRUSHES FROM DIFFERENT COMPANIES AND THE SIZE# IS THE SAME, BUT THE THEY HAVE DIFFERENT SIZES AND YES, I HAVE BRUSHES WHERE THE HANDLE IS WOOD AND THE COAT IS COMING OF, I HAVE STARTED TO GET BRUSHES WITH PLASTIC HANDLES....
Well, I just bought some calligraphy brush to start with. I can find some really decent natural hair brushes for around a pound, and the slowly add on what I need when I develope my skill.🐼
Thanks for this info. I've had interest in painting (watercolor, acrylic and oil) for quite sometime but never got too into it. However, I feel the time is right and my interest is solid. I've viewed many videos and have given some effort to the craft. I've gotten to a point where I'm wondering if there is a difference between oil, acrylic and watercolor brushes. Your video has helped considerably for the watercolor brushes. Are you able to do a video on comparing all three brushes? Thanks

Good luck for your group ❤️❤️🥺 lots of love from me granny
how's the art going?
How's the art going?
How's the art going?
How you doing dear...
Don't judge me : I had a watercolour fan brush and didn't know how to use it so I just use it as a highlighter brush now 😂🤣
haha same. except i didnt really use it at all. i thought it was a dud
Same here
That's the same thing I do now 😂
jajaajaj! Smart😎
Same here
This video is really handy for me as a beginner
Anyone who uses the same brushes for each kind of painting..
No only me, okay 😂
Loves ❤️❤️❤️
Rabia Abid i do too. I have synthetic brushes tho 😂😂
I only have 2
I bought two sets on sale years ago, one for watercolor and one for acrylic, but both are cheap and small with no large brushes and the hair falls out a lot, I rarely buy new brushes but I just paint anyway, it just doesn't work exactly how I want sometimes. I can't buy natural hair brushes anyway because it's warm here and we have lots of bugs and I can never keep bugs out of anything with animal fibers (r.i.p. all my sweaters...)
I dont use my aquarel brushes for anything else because they are so soft. The harder brushes get used for everything.
Rabia Abid i am a savage that uses the dame brushes for water color and oil painting
When your paintbrush dies, "I think it had a stroke" #makoficationsquad
😂😂😂
That is GENIUS
@@Makoccino so many paintbrushes lost
im just gonna brush that off my mind-
LOL 🤣🤣🤣
I Can’t help but think putting together all this info and research about watercolor brushes was A LOT of work. Thanks for putting in the work for us tho👌👍🏻👍🏻this vid had some helpful tips😉
Aww thank you! It means a lot!
Great video! Thanks. Very helpful indeed!! 🙏🙏🙏🤗

This is very helpful. I would like to see a video about acrilic brushes too.
Very helpful big fan
This is super helpful, I kept pondering for weeks what should I get 😅 I'm a super noob.
I would like to know how you take care of your brushes. Like do you wash them with soap, where to put them to dry properly and things like that :)
But first of all, thanks for this Video it was very helpful !
Mako,I would like how you wash acrilic colour from a brush.😊😉
*wow...*
*I am definitely a beginner in EVERY KIND of art, even though I've done it most of my life lol*
True!
Me: binge watching art videos.
My brain: "how about you start drawing and painting already"
Me: starts watching next art vid 😂
Same!😂
I haven’t watched the whole video yet but I already know it’s going to be helpful.
I haven’t tried watercolor yet and I’ve been thinking about trying it out but I want to know everything about it first 😊
I was wondering about brushes just yesterday!
Congrats

Awww yes! I think it's worth every penny if you get frustration free supplies that will last forever! Haha and I love your comparison 😂
The problem is I bought fancy brushes without researching and ruined them. Now that I know how to use them, my mom won't buy me new ones.
go mow lawns or shovel snow or babysit or walk dogs to earn money then you can buy new ones
Some brushes can be restored. There's some videos on how to do it, some require certain products tho.
you can buy brush reshaper!
I love these videos you make to give us some art tips! When you show the difference between Watercolour, Gouache and Acrylics. Or when you show the difference between Watercolour pans, tubes and liquids. It helps us a load! Thanks a lot, Mako for being so amazing!
Awww yayyy! ❤
Omg I’ve been needing a tutorial of this I literally have thousands 😂

However, if these brushes' materials conflict with any principles of yours, that's okay too so no pressure.
The biggest difference is that calligraphy brushes do not have snap. They are not made to be bent.
This was so much information, put together clearly and simply. I wanted to start painting as a hobby- 33 and never done anything “artsy” before, just wanted to give it a shot, but it seemed so overwhelming. I’ve really loved your videos!

Thank you so much for explaining the differences in the brushes - I am a beginner watercolor user - This was very helpful.
Very good information. It's so confusing, with so many types of brushes out there. Now you can narrow it down to a few. Thank you.
My favorite brushes for watercolor are quill mop large and small, filbert, cat tongue and dagger, but i love All Brushes!
Your all videos are always inspiring for beginners as I am . And today by showing difference between brushes it literally helped me a lot...... THANK YOU
I use the Talens Watercolor brushes and Action brushes.
Cheers mako! Excellent video. Hello, could you please do a video about the comparison between natural vs synthetic brushes. Thank you.
2:43 ASMR for the eyes 🤩
@ 1:03 I read ferrule as female 😂.. This video was very helpful BTW 💟
Omg . I also read female
They should put in a little paper in the package describing what each brush is used for and what type of brush it is
