It came out awesome! Stop picking on yourself lady!! Glad you had a blast in France also glad your home safe. One last thing, you sounded almost embarrassed about picking up the trash. I feel that whoever left it should be embarrassed. Nothing wrong with keeping the earth you live on, you know the only one we ALL live on, as clean as possible. Take care!!

I’m late to the party, but I love when you teach a new technique that I’ve never seen before. You always explain it simply and provide a good example that we can try. Not some ridiculous explanation and crazy hard example. I always have fun learning from you. Thank you!

I’m so glad you posted this particular photo as an urban sketch painting! I took a photo of this street in Albi, too. I loved the flags hung across the street. This is another great exercise for perspective, which I’m always working on! Thanks! (MJ)

I am fortunate that my craft space is a loft and has a window. I could not work in a basement. I get a bit claustrophobic. I love your painting. The colors are so pleasing and then the banners are so cute.

I see a joy and excitement in your sketch. ❤
There's a thrill in being in a new environment (to me) and I appreciate the wash, then line approach that lets you splash on color before "corralling" it with line and definition. Thank you for demonstrating this technique.

What you say about needing to make mistakes in order to learn: I used to tell students who were discouraged by their progress in languages: ‘When you start to learn a language, it’s as if you’re given a big sack of mistakes you have to make. You can make your mistakes liberally and your sack will empty fast. Or you can keep on trying to avoid mistakes: your sack will stay heavy and you’ll progress only slowly. Or, of course, you could dump your sack on the side of the road and give up altogether. If you really want to learn a language, make your mistakes boldly and gaily. The people who do that are the ones who end up learning well and, paradoxically, enjoy themselves while they do.’
PS Lindsay: don’t give up on French because of Duolingo!

I love this! I'm also a big fan of Teoh Yi Chie and I love his "messy" urban sketching style. I think your composition turned out better than the reference, because you opened it up so you could see more into the scene -- for instance I couldn't even notice the teal shutters in the photo. Love how you used the brush pen for thick lines.
I actually love doing the paint then draw technique for very loose flowers, it works wonderful with both pens and crayons. Kind of like the idea of a reverse coloring book, but one I made myself!

@@thefrugalcrafter Just finished your most recent sat chat. You sound like you really need some R&R to recover your voice, get enough sleep. My goodness, you had super stressful weeks before the retreat, a full 16h days, 7 day immersion with 17 strangers in a foreign country with 6 h time difference eating new food. Does any of that sound like a vacation? I am sure you were great, Lindsay. I have conducted hundreds of workshops (as have you) and this Post-Event slump is to be exp ected. Do the things you enjoy, celebrate yourself for having such a victory (dream retreat!) and build on the good memories. Perhaps you can do an event in Maine in the fall 🍂🍁, closer to home where you feel more at ease. People will go to Maine for leaf peeping! Doing that with your bubbly self of? So many people would love that. Find an event manager to organise it, so you can focus on the fun stuff. But for now, it sounds like you need some quiet time to have fun and enjoy the moment. I am sure you will feel better after that.

Did you find this to be the case, in that you saw differences in the sky between where you were in France and your home state of Maine? and if so, how would you describe the difference(s)? :D so curious!
