Congrats and a wonderful day to you, EVERYDAY. Interesting ponderings - it is amazing to see the amount of retail the public can support. Most of us have (too) many art supplies. Developing a mind set of "would I pay for price for this?" can help one use sales as an excuse to buy. Having come from absolutely nothing, it is easy to succumb to "sales". Decades ago, they were genuine markdowns. Now there are constant "bargains". And Target, Wal-Mart and other major retailers are having pricing to compete with Amazon Prime Days.

Sweetie, you're still a baby. Honestly, you're several years younger than my baby. Yes, yes, yes. I've done so much better drawing with a pencil, paper and a couple purchased used thrift books on plants, flowers, ferns, weeds. The illustrations are the perfect thing to look at and sketch. Keeps the hands moving, the mind engaged and it's so relaxing. Much like watercoloring. I think my painting will improve along side my drawing and my understanding of how a leaf looks or a particular flower and all on the frugal side. Thank you for your encouragement to all of us would be artists. whoops, had to come back as I forgot to say, Happy Birthday - remember to celebrate all month...some people only celebrate themselves for a day, some a week, why not the whole month. ♥

We also have amazing local strawberries and yes, if you buy a flat or half flat, you better be prepared to process them THAT DAY because they basically deteriorate before your very eyes. But they are red in the middle!! I tend to wash then freeze them on a pan then stick them in a ziploc. Amazing smoothies with coconut milk!

Hi, Lindsay. I enjoyed the decluttering video and worked while I watched and listened. It does make the time go faster. I wish I'd realized about the brain activity years ago because in hindsight those dopamine hits are what brought a lot of unused stuff under my roof. That's something I rarely do now. I love when you talked about expensive vs inexpensive products and the level of advancement in art or hobbies. I actually prefer the less expensive products and purchases because I tend to actually use them and not horde them.

Happy Birthday!! I just can't tell you how much I love you as a person and encouragement and an art teacher ❤️ I'm in a bit of an art rut or burnout or just life blah so I told myself when you shop goes on sale I would buy the beginner watercolor class as maybe I have gaps in my learning and need to go back to the beginning and truly learn the basic techniques in order to get the most out of my painting experience. As I can follow tutorials to a T, but when I sit to paint on my own I still feel a little lost in how to get from A-Z and of course composition and design are my all time biggest struggle. My hope is taking a step back to the beginning will refresh and fill in the gaps of my watercolor journey so I can paint what's in my mind without feeling stuck or no know how to do it on my own. Thanks for being so great and making art so affordable and important 💕 💗 💖

Hullo Lindsay, I do enjoy watching your videos and seeing your art journey is a true joy! Happy birthday wishes to you and the rest of the viewers sharing their birthdays too! You did such an amazing job with the clean-up video, so much fun! Thank you for sharing all of your ideas and techniques across the media universe! I have never mixed as many mediums as I have since starting to watch your videos, thank you. Oh! Plateau accomplished theory! Yes I have heard of and experienced it as well! Professional grade paints are largely a personal preference after all is said and done. Like your “preference” for M.Graham paint, it taps onto your nostalgia and so you enjoy painting with that brand most! Some people have so much trouble with the stickiness with that brand so they do not like it but it is still a professional grade paint! It will stand the test of time if everything is done correctly as far as paper and framing etc.

I have 1 small desk my father made me many years ago protected with a plastic tablecloth and a 4ft. table near it in the front room of my 450ft tiny house. It’s really humid here in central NC so I don’t sit on the little porch in summer. There’s no room in my tiny bedroom which is fine. And I usually take a sketch book and pens/pencil in my purse with me, but forgot it yesterday 🤪. Sorry it was so long😂

I just have to say this. Because of World Water Color month there were a few tutorial opportunities from MANY teachers. I have bought from Lindsay and another fav. I am not mentioning any names, but for the $ I spent, the classes that Lindsay offers are so much better. You get several in depth classes, and the teaching is quality top notch. I was so disappointed that the "other" classes I purchased was 1 video cut up into several small videos. And basically ONE art piece was done. 😥. We are very lucky to have Lindsay and I tell everyone I know about her classes. OK rant over.

I remember when you mentioned you were turning 44, i was shocked bc i thought perhaps you were in your mid 30s...Im sorry if bringing up age and looks bothers you or others...it takes a lot to offend me so I often say too much.. which is why ive switched to an automatic short and sweet comment for most videos- to keeo myself from saying to much or offending someone...lol. but here i go, possibly offending away....lol

Lovely chat Lindsay. Ah the buy don’t buy while on sale um at the beginning of my I wanna be an artist I brought up big in sales, tried loads and well learnt lots. Know I am more disciplined only what I need and what I will use having said this a new pencil range out that sounds half good right I so need those, and paper my great weakness at the moment is paper, lol I am easy.

Happy early birthday! I'll have to go take a look at your classes again & see if I can add another one. I'm going to get back to the colored pencil class but I got distracted by the world of adult coloring. Learning more about color selection, shading, & using mixed media! Speaking of which, I've got my eye on a few things I hope will be discounted on Prime Day so we'll see how that goes. Since I just got back into doing art since I last dabbled in it 45 years ago, there are a lot of supplies I still want to try. In any case, everyone has free will & can choose to buy or not buy. You shouldn't worry so much about being a negative influence because that depends on whether one wants to be influenced. Maybe it's a life lesson in self-control. :-)

I try not to buy much because, although I get the dopamine hit when purchasing, I feel a much longer depressive state at having lots of stuff. That’s why I limit my crafting worlds. I was, and will be again, a quilter. Watercolor always. Crocheting recently but only very simple stuff, no interest in learning more. And recently have done some acrylic painting, with no training which is very freeing.

For me personally there's a huge difference between a standard watercolor and a student grade and a honey based watercolor because the feel and look are different. However because of financial constraints I'm not able to get senellier or M Graham yet. So that has become a goal for me. It's not so much that I think that they will improve my ability as an artist but I think that they will improve my time and enjoyment as an artist. I love that you point out that we need to work within what we can afford and not put ourselves in debt trying to keep up with the latest trends or newest products. It is one of the things that makes me greatly respect you and really appreciate your advice.

Beside the hurricane prep, thankfully the Beryl went more north, i prayed that no one else loose their lives do this hurricane. By the way, I completed reading the James Gurney book. I started a new book Coloured Pencil Drawing, sorry i dont remember the author. When you said your birthday is coming up, i wondered what do you give the art youtuber that has every single watercolours under the sun? i got some erasable coloured pencils too but i find it challenging to draw in this shizen paper, i have the rough press but the paper is so soft. I have you tried the shizen before? thank you so much, have a safe and bless week.
Yes, I think I typically jump right in with paint and keep it loose. Their hot press paper is better for drawing.
Happy birthday Lindsey! Do you have a video that explains the different classes you offer? I don’t mean the ones where the titles are self explanatory, like "Color mixing 101" or "How to plan and fill a customized travel palette from tubes." Or, is it best to just browse the website? I hope this made sense. I remember a promotion where your entire catalog was on sale and I believe you said you offered it once or twice a year, but I can’t remember if it was the "Critique Club" or something else. Did the sale include past and that current year or (more likely) through that month? I made the mistake of relying on my memory, so I missed the deadline.
I'd browse the website. Every class has a description and promotional video to explain what you will learn:) all classes are eligible for the sale:)

I just tried to purchase the marker course but something must be wrong. It looked like it was going through. I have waited quite a while now but I have nothing. @@thefrugalcrafter Thank you Lindsay I don't know what I did wrong last night, but I've got the marker course now. I bought markers - several ! - too many !!, even though had never used them. - (except magic markers of course and the Cayola kind to make pictures to use when teaching kids) I guess I thought I would know how to use them when had them. I followed some videos on You Tube to see how to blend, but felt like I was missing something. (many somethings) When I saw this course, I thought that it might help me feel more comfortable and use them. Could I use them under pastel or maybe under oil pastel or other media? How do people use them in coloring books? The marker ink bleeds though. If you put a piece of plastic between the pages you protect the next page but the back of page is gone. Coloring book paper is too thin to use these. I have also tried marker paper, but it is very thin. I think I like Bristol or smooth hot press watercolor paper. If marker ink will blend on that paper of course. Thanks and have a very happy Birthday ( :
