This channel is so good, but Basement Brothers, Jeremy Parish, Bastich, and countless others would disagree, lol. This is like the golden age, so many good retro channels without stupid unfunny skits and self-indulgent bullshit like AVGN and all his clones. Just people who know what they're talking about playing games with insightful commentary.
What a wonderful birthday gift! You rock UCBVG! Kylo looks exactly like my dog. His name is Jecht, but he only answers when we call him "The Great Jecht!"
Ive been waiting for this one. I have a PC Engine mini from Japan. Also, "representative of big tree nut" caused me to LOL. She must have been after the college student who found the big secret that was being sold in a youtube ad.
One of my favorite game endings ever. It's sweet. I always hoped Adol and Lillia ended up together once Adol's adventures were over. And the tiny dancing during the credits! Ugh! The cuteness is off the charts! Especially the little bow. ❤️💧
I had started a playthrough of Origin years ago and restarted it after the first video went up, finished all three characters, then finished I and II... and got about halfway through Memories of Celceta before this came out lol These games are quite short.
What an amazing walkthrough! Thank you again for making amazing content! Also your dogs are adorable~ Also, obligatory "We're bring it, we're bring it, we're bring it back... FIREBALL" reference because, geez, Adol is quite the pyromaniac in this game, isn't he.
"No word on if he's related to Ric" Well, he went to pick herbs in a mine, it's safe to assume he IS a nature boy. HE'S THE ROLEX-WEARIN', DIAMOND RING WEARIN', KISS-STEALIN', WHEELIN' DEALIN', LIMOUSINE-RIDIN', HIGH FLYIN', WOO! SON OF A GUN!! Also I been waiting for this one. :D I haven't beaten Ys II on TG-CD as of yet, but I DID make it all the way to Darm.
I reeeeeeally hope you get around to doing Illusion of Gaia one of these days. My all time favorite game, so many special memories connected to that game and the time I first played it.
Next up, Ys III. You have a few different choices for ports. It made it to the TurboGrafx, Genesis, and SNES this (all with North American releases). It'd probably be a fairly big undertaking, hence why I'm not really recommending it, but it'd be cool to see a comparison of the ports.
Voices included Alan Oppenhimer (who played Skeletor) and Jim Cummings (who's done almost every cool voice)? How did I not hear about this game?!? Anyway, great video!
another great vid! Loved the story of trading systems. me and my friends would borrow each others NES carts. well, forgot to give back blaster master. I still have my buddies copy with his last name in black marker on it to this day.
I was wondering what you were supposed to do for levels near the end; I hadn't figured out that last grind spot, and what level I did reach (might've been 60 or even just 59) took an ETERNITY. I learned a lot, as always.
I have only played Ys 7. It played a lot like Legend of Zelda. Almost was Legend of Zelda just on PlayStation 4. I have never played the early Ys games before, but I knew about them. Ys 2 has a very good storyline.
Could you use a Roda Tree Nut to refill your magic points, and then swiftly swap back to the Goddess's Ring when fighting the final boss? If you can that would let you easily destroy him while taking no damage, considering that you got him well below half health before your MP ran out. Also, the Goddesses at the end say that they're not going to allow magic anymore, and they work *fast* - as you're talking to everyone after the defeat of the final boss, notice your max MP - it's permanently locked at zero.
You cant access the menu at all while fighting the boss, but that would have made it much easier. You're totally right about the Goddesses taking the magic away - Ha!
I think I played a little Ys 1 but got killed on that two demon head boss. My first Ys was also Ys 3 for the SNES. And now I have Ys VII: Lacrimosa of Dana, and people speed run it not realizing that VIII-X would not exist without these old Turbografx games. ^_^
Ive never liked the early Ys games. I played through 7 on the PSP and loved it though. Ive been a fan of UCBVG for years now (its crazy how fast youtube time moves btw). So even though i wasnt super excited about Ys i happily watched anyway. However, while sitting through the last episode i noticed the game hadnt aged as bad as i thought. By the time the episode was ending i decided i need to play the earlier games again. Good reminder for me. When something is 'bad' a lot of times its just me being wrong.
Thank you for re-introducing some of us to this forgotten GEM. I have just started playing this series, and I really enjoyed it all the way through 1-4. The fifth one was kinda meh. Not sure how I feel about the 6th one right now, that I am currently playing. But my favorite one was part 3. And I do hope you also cover Ys 3.
Props for even playing this, the story is interesting, but walking and bumping into monsters is and will always be lame. This game will always be Wonders from 'Whys' not EEEEEs
I like how the end boss said that 700 years ago, he had Y's in his grasp, but suffered 10, 000 years of humiliation since. At least, that is what I got out of it. It's kind of hard to hear the voices over the music. Not mixed well. Fun game, and story, though
This video literally saved my ass a lot of frustration. The Gamefaqs walk-through for Book II is a total fail, as it falls apart right around the point you get the silver pendant, when the author just clearly lost his enthusiasm for the writing and started taking shortcuts in the writing, making his guide gear over to a abbreviated guide that would only work based on the assumption the player using the guide was extremely aware of the over all map, and all key landmark type locations in the Solomon Shrine and the canals.
I would love to see a guide for NES - Empire Strikes Back. Such a hard and almost impossible game. If you thought that Super Empire Strikes Back on Super Nintendo was very hard, NES - Empire Strikes Back is extremely hard. NES Empire Strikes Back gets my vote for one of the hardest games on the NES.
I have not beat this game in over 15 years. I recently beat Ys Origins and I see quite a few creatures I recognize. Does Dark Fact even know Darm is also a Fact?
Gotta ask, how indifferent is the Idol of Falcon to the Idol of Hawk? Like I feel like it has issues chasing enemies in compare to the Idol of Hawk I use in the Solomon Shrine and ultimately.. feels like an optional second chance item in case one wouldn't have gotten the idol in Ys 1. Otherwise you tell me the exact differences because that item confuses me in terms of usefulness comparatively.
Agreed the voice acting in the game audio is too low. I had to crank it up to hear them and then quick turn it down again before he blasted me with commentary.
The best retro gaming channel on UA-cam by far

Of course he can. He’s the BEST! ⚽️
Hope you had a happy birthday😊😊😊🎉

Thank you for all of the guides over the years! I'm following along on the TurboGrafx-16 Mini.
YES! WE CAN BEAT VIDEO GAMES 🎉🥳
(I've actually been following along with this one playing the game lol)
I had started a playthrough of Origin years ago and restarted it after the first video went up, finished all three characters, then finished I and II... and got about halfway through Memories of Celceta before this came out lol
These games are quite short.
1:45 I love how doggo runs out of frame to take his spot on the couch and get started!
Doggo also presses the mew button 🐶 😺

Lol, let's just be glad the main character is a guy. Otherwise, he might of tried to show us his helicopter trick.
I reeeeeeally hope you get around to doing Illusion of Gaia one of these days. My all time favorite game, so many special memories connected to that game and the time I first played it.
That and soul blazer
Nice
illusion of gaia had soooo many problems... i just beat it a year ago and needed walkthroughs to get through.
The black pearl, an item so important that they made a game to go more in depth on what the deal is with it many years later in Ys Origin.
never have I waited for a channel to post like I do with this one
these games had fabulous soundtracks. really inspiring stuff
Best video game channel on UA-cam by far!
You're a fixture of my life. I listen to you to sleep. What a weird world we love in
Your videos are always cheering me up. Thank you.
Just another great Sunday morning. Thanks UCBVG!
Hell yeah! Loved the first part I watched it two times, can't wait to see what you've prepared for us this time!
the music in this game is divine
So happy that this channel is still growing. Its a sure-click every time I see a new video drop.
Fantastic playthrough, I never did get through the first two, like you my first exposure was the 3rd on the SNES.
Next up, Ys III. You have a few different choices for ports. It made it to the TurboGrafx, Genesis, and SNES this (all with North American releases). It'd probably be a fairly big undertaking, hence why I'm not really recommending it, but it'd be cool to see a comparison of the ports.
Heck yeah! Always a good day when theres a new UCBVG ep
Maybe do Arcana on SNES sometime. I always loved that game
What a fun ride! I love these longer multipart ones. I never got a chance to play it myself, but it was clearly made with love
Voices included Alan Oppenhimer (who played Skeletor) and Jim Cummings (who's done almost every cool voice)? How did I not hear about this game?!? Anyway, great video!
That track during the credits is quite the jam
Kudo's wife: "You're not naming our son 'Fart'!"
Kudo: "What about... uhhh..."
I was thinking barf.
Not in here, Mister. This is a Mercedes.
I’m a simple man - I see a UCBVG video, I give a Like and plan to watch for the next few hours
Don't make fun of Keith. The other demons ridicule them relentlessly.
I have this game on my Wii. I should go back and play through it.
This game's soundtrack is insane
"Who named a demon Keith?"
My parents. Got a problem with it?
Id say lets keep going, but i wonder which Ys3, which Ys4, etc
Id really like to see this guy cover the 4 Kings Field games. Be perfect for this channel and they are some of the darkest, sickest early 3D games.
That'd be awesome but idk if he'd cover a Playstation game any sooner, even more a KF game.
But again, I'd love that.
@@Giffsen he only do 8 and 16 bit era stuff? That's a shame. We could learn alot about those KF games. He knows how to map stuff out.
Nice video dude! Keep it up :)
Been waiting since part one, Ys is one of my favorite childhood videogames

You should do streets of rage 2 because your guide for streets of rage 1 helped me beat the first one
Great video as usual man
Did you accidentally get some speed metal in your audio mixdown? Around the 9:30 mark there's background music and I don't think it matches the game'.
Thank you for all you do! 🙏
I've seen enough "anime" that I know any schoolgirl needs to be afraid of that blue monster

How does it compare to Battletoads?
I scrolled you videos and i didnt see solar jetman for the nes, ive never finished that one.
I wonder if Bernice's image @5:42 was inspired by the Mona Lisa? 🤔 Anyone else see a similarity in the pose and facial features? 🙂
