  • Although Akatosh might have helped Martin Septim save Tamriel in the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion through the Amulet of Kings, it could be the case that Akatosh is far from an omnibenevolent Aedra. Elder Scrolls Oblivion theory.

I always thought that Aedra unlike the Daedra are acting like they're good to get more followers, because more followers = more power, which is very important to them because they lost it in the creation of Mundus. Deadra act in whatever manner they want because they didn't lost their power.

Aedra don't portray themselves as anything they don't have the power to directly communicate with mortals they don't have the power, it is the mortals who portray the gods as they are then worship it to make a splinter of said god with the personality as the worshippers represent them.

A small correction here: Ayleids worshipped both Aedra and Daedra, similar to Khajiit (which is another quasi- but elvish race that worships both Aedra and Daedra).

From what I've read, while there was Daedra worship among the Ayleids, they originally started out as Aedra worshippers and this seemed to remain the prominent religion for most of them....though I can imagine that it died out when they found out that the Aedra betrayed them for the humans. And true, the humans were being enslaved...but the only reason that happened is because they invaded Cyrodiil in the first place. I doubt their genocide against the Snow Elves helped relations either.

Of course they attacked Saarthal. The Nords invaded their land, settled on it, and stole the Eye of Magnus. That's what any sovereign nation would do when strangers just show up and start taking land like they own the place. It's what the Dunmer did, it's what the Dwemer did (against the Nords *and* the Dunmer until they found peace) and, yes, what the Ayleids did. And it's not coincidence that the Aldmeri Dominion was born out of revenge and hatred for the empire. People don't like it when you steal their land.

Something else to posit is that in ESO, Mannimarco states that Chim El Adabal is actually the most powerful soul gem in existence. Apparently it's so powerful it could rob an Aedra/Daedra of their entire essence (in his case, he wanted to absorb Molag Bal), which now begs to question just what are soul gems to begin with.

Just gonna add that there is somewhat overwhelming evidence of mankar camoran being Dovahkiin, as a start the ability to wear the amulet is obvious but not enough, however if you add in his commentary on the mysterium xarxes and his story on losing the ability to speak only to suddenly know a new language and in his words "within three days I could speak fire" provides a strikingly accurate description on the learning capabilities of a dragon born, the circumstances are odd but the fact that within 3 days he had figured out how to "shout" is a feat that is unique to dragon born. So in summary Camoran was witnessed wearing the Amulet of Kings AND described an event that could only be possible for a dragon born in relation to himself

Something very important to note about Akatosh and his Divine buddies is that they are outright stated to be fond of mortals in their own right. Per the legends of Alessia, Akatosh was convinced to help out the Nedes because she "spoke as a mortal, whose kindle is beloved by the Gods for its strength-in-weakness, a humility that can burn with metaphor and yet break [easily and] always, always doomed to end in death (and this is why those who let their souls burn anyway are beloved of the Dragon and His Kin)..." In essence, the ol' Dragon God admires how mortality always ends in death, but they keep on fighting and living regardless. The bit of those who "let their souls burn anyway" is especially important as of ESO, where (trying to remain spoiler-free here!) Akatosh only helps out due to a mortal sacrifice. Therefore, while it's totally fair to assume Akatosh may have been 'hi-jacking' Lorkhan's contributions, I do believe that he and his Divine buddies are actually benevolent to mortals. Especially since faith does have outright power in ES, and so the proto-Imperials' faith in the Dragon God may have not only allowed it to keep living (per the legends, they "had not known kindness since the beginning of elven rule", at least in the future Cyrodiil), but made it so that he actually does care about mortals, simply because they believe he does.

One thing you forgot to mention is the Nord/human name for Lorkhan is Shor and Shor is considered by the Nords as the god of Humanity. So if it was Shor’s blood that lead to the creation of the amulet of kings then when Akatosh took pity on Humanity and helped them overthrow the Ayleids it would make sense that he would gift them with an artifact of the god of Humanity.
Also this wouldn’t be the first time Akatosh took pity on Humanity.
During the Merethic Era The dragons ruled over the humans as living gods alongside their dragon Priests. For a time they ruled peacefully however this worship went straight to Alduin’s head and he ended up forsaking his purpose as “world eater” and sought to rule all of Tamriel and he and his dragon Priest’s rule became tyrannical. When this happened the humans began to rebel. Though at first it seemed the humans would lose, what Alduin didn’t account for was that when he forsook his purpose he angered Akatosh. So Akatosh loosened Paarthurnax’s heart and had Kyne (shor’s wife) tell Paarthurnax to teach humanity how to use Thu’um. With Akatosh’s blessing Humanity was able to use their Thu’um to defeat Alduin and the other dragons.
It would seem that almost every time Akatosh helps Humanity Shor is involved in one way or another.

    @actualmadscientist 5 років тому +21

Actually, I already have a plausible explanation for how Mankar could wear the amulet. In the elder scrolls universe, the term "dragonborn" is actually rather misleading because unlike dungeons and dragons the term doesn't refer to someone that is literally half-dragon, but rather it refers to anyone who has both the body of a mortal and the soul of a dragon. This includes mortals who are not born with the soul of a dragon, but instead become artificial dragonborns through a type of soul modification called "Draco-chrystalisis" where a mortal's soul is transformed into a dragon's soul through extremely complicated magical rituals that heavily rely on the complex metaphysical properties that souls have in the setting. Mehrunes' razor was an artifact that has been in the lore for a long time, however oblivion didn't allow the player to find it until a canon DLC added in a quest and dungeon for it. Mehrunes Dagon also did not have a shrine quest in oblivion for obvious reasons. Now of course, if you're wondering why a daedric prince would have the knowledge of inducing draco-chrysalisis, you need look no further than Hermaeus Mora giving Miiraak words of DovahZuul the dragon language that the dragons themselves didn't know about. Not even Alduin knew how to use the bend will shout, . When you take into consideration that the bend dragonrend shout was created by mortals and the dragon aspect shout was invented by Miiraak himself, this effectively means anyone with sufficient knowledge can just use dragon magic even in ways the dragons themselves are not able to. So there is indeed a specific mechanism that Mehrunes could teach to Mankar in order to give Mankar everything he would need in order to transform into an artificial dragonborn, and he doesn't use shouts during the battle against the hero of kvatch specifically because there are no word walls in cyrodiil with which to learn DovahZuul. That being the same reason why Martin never learned any shouts either.

The Aedra are good, it's just that the "Lore" doesn't make much sense about them. Let's take the dragonborn for example. Dragonborn means he has the soul of a dragon, so he's a "son of Akatosh". However he is suspected to be a shezzarin =Shezzar=Shor= Lorkan. Same goes for Talos, same goes for the numidium, constructed from the "heart of Lorkan", what happens when we use it ? a DRAGON break= break in time= Akatosh. Nirn was created by the "betrayal" of Lorkan, yet the destroyer of the world is Alduin "the first born of Akatosh", an aspect of Akatosh according to certain pantheons.

However, after Lorkhan's heart was ripped out and shot across Tamriel, his ability to directly interact with mortals was greatly curtailed. Akatosh, having invested so much of himself into the mortal world, appropriated the power of the artifact and used it to further his own goals. Can you say something is evil if it must act in that way regardless of choice? No, nor can you say one is good for the same reasons. Mortals can be good or evil, the spirits just are. But there is no denying influence of these spirits can inspire acts of good or evil. So there is nothing wrong with embracing the spirits that generally bring positive change and shun the ones who bring negativity. But I think we should not be thinking of them as good or evil but as more likes forces of nature. They have more self-awareness than the wind but occupy a similar position in how things work.

Lorkhan and Akatosh are both fragments of the original space/time god Akatusk, if the ayleid myth is even vaguely right the amulet was made during Akatusks destruction where it tore its own heart out to try killing the Lorkhan aspect. So the gem is of both and neither of them. Akatosh came into being after Alesias rebellion when the elven god Auri-el, that they had renamed Akatosh, was further shattered into two different time gods by humanity using an elder scroll to try removing the more elven leaning part of the god to suit their needs.

Anu-Iel and Sithis then gave birth to Akatosh/Auriel/Alduin and Lorkhan.
They’re wholly separate entities, their very existence’s are opposite and their goals are clearly defined. Lorkhan wants to make the world no matter the cost, Akatosh wants things to stay as they are, whatever that may be in his opinion at the time.

    • @DMarkond

@@AngelCakes1997 Sithis might have came before Anu and Podomay, the Nothing before primordial Order and Chaos. The Imperial religion plays them up as almost elder gods that created the aedra/daedra when they're really just the forces they formed from.
At one point there was just one space/time god, the first Aka spirit, I think it gets called the aka oversoul in some sources. Being all of past, present, future and possibility made it unstable and chaotic, one body and far too many minds in conflict. One of its many aspects, Lorkhan, either tricked or convinced the other spirits to help its plan to make a permanent creation. Sithis wanted them all gone and draining their life away to make a world that would eventually die with them seemed a good idea at the time, so he either helped form Lorkhan or influenced him to do it. The spirits got angry at this, and Akatusk tore out Lorkhans heart without realising Lorkhan was part of himself, shattering into many other entities in the process; Auriel, Alduin and the other dragons, Shor, Lorkhan, the various spirits that would later form Talos, and smaller entities like the Shezarine and Dragonborn.
The more modern Akatosh was created by the Marukh selective during the Middle Dawn, they used a Dragonbreak and an Elder Scroll to selectively edit their time god and it went less than well.

Similar to how people who go throw intense experiences dream about them, especially negative ones, in a subconcious effort to understand them and fix them.
Anu and Padomay fought over Nir, she only loved Anu, and died due to Padomay's beating. Then, Anu went to sleep. Akatosh was betrayed by Lorkhan and forced to lose much of his power, but ultimately destroyed Lorkhan. I see some parallels here in a confrontation between individuals which ends up in one of them losing something of importance and having to cope with it somehow. Ultimately, Akatosh does really care for the world and wants to protect it, otherwise, Nirn wouldn't have it's name.

To be fair, it was already noted in Oblivion that the Pelinal Whitestrake had a red gem as a heart.
What has always been presumed to being the gem from the Amulet of Kings.
Pelinal Whitestrake had no bond to Akatosh that we know off.
The real mystery here is how Akatosh and the other divines are tied in with Pelinal.
and why his heart was capable only of being carried by those who possess the dragon's blood in their own veins, along with being capable of forming a barrier between Oblivion and Mundus via the 8 divine's "planets".
Only thing I could guess at is that the heart of Pelinal was actually once the blood that recided inside the Heart of Lorkhan.
As such, Pelinal Whitestrake was a reincarnation of Lorkhan. (There was a special name for this form of event, like manteling, but not the same)
An incomplete one of course as he only originated from just his heart blood.
still it would only explain his great hatred for the Elves, not why his heart would later on be able to form the barrier between Mundus and Oblivion, as I doupt the 8 would want anything to do with Lorkhan.

I think most of these things are resolved when you see Akatosh And Shezzar as joined eternally by a struggle, and that they are two sides of the same coin. Perhaps all Aedra and Daedra, are at some level manifestations of the parent forces that they are direct divine avatars of. Maybe neither of them personalize this struggle at all, and ideas like this are projections of humans, tapping into these god's powers as they exist un-personified amidst the earth-bones. That certainly makes Pelinal Whitestrake's story (if he has the amulet of kings in his chest) make more sense. Why he can talk to Akatosh makes Sense if he's Lorkhan.

The aedra and daedra aren't so simple as good and bad. They are perceived as such by mortals based on their Providence. Molag Bal's is domination. He exists to subjugate others. Mehrunes Dagon's is destruction, and who in their right mind would want to be destroyed. Peyrite is pestilence, people don't like sickness. Notice how all "bad daedra" either directly or indirectly harm mortals.
Here's a fun theory: What if the heart of lorkhan was what kept the jaws of oblivion shut and the amulet was made of his blood-essence. A heart doesn't function without blood. The ritual had to be performed to start the "beating" otherwise the existance of the amulet would prevent the protection from activating. When the amulet was destroyed, the essence returned to the heart granting permanent protection again. Why would a good that's supposed to be good do something potentially devastating to the mortal races. Perhaps to see if a mortal would give his/her life to save their bretheren. Who knows.

It just kinda hit me how messed up the Empire is by the end of Oblivion. Like it’s a very simple good vs evil deal, but then there’s an entire empire left with no leadership. The last true emperor died and his sons all died with him. For almost 200 year the most power and influential political body in Tamriel’s history was left to try and fill that hole and we know from the Dark Brotherhood questline that they failed to do so, so badly in fact that the current emperor is willing to fall on the blade to help bolster his empire for an oncoming war, in the middle of several smaller civil wars and a massive natural disasters that displaced a huge chunk of the dunmer population.

Sheogorath and akatosh are best friends now. Martin septim is akatosh, and the hero of kvatch is sheogorath, meaning they are both best friends. The hero of kvatch is like talos if talos were a daedra.

Depends, some myths claim that the daedra are formed from the blood of Padomay (Sithis basically) while the Aedra are formed from the blood of the both brothers (Padomay and Anuiel I believe). The daedra formed solely from the blood of Sithis are wholly evil according to this myth: the Aedra however are capable of good and evil because they have the blood of both.
Meridia however muddied the waters with what is a daedra because of her unique history.

Wait a minute... what of ESO? In the final conflict, the Vestige wears the amulet of kings, powered up via a sacrifice to Akatosh.
The whole plot revolves around someone fucking up and putting on the amulet of kings in a botched ritual to become dragonborn which tears open a rift to oblivion.
If Varen Aquilarios couldn't wear the amulet, how can the Vestige, if they aren't dragonborn?

Akatosh was born of Anu, and Lorkhan of Padomay. Of course Akatosh would do whatever he could to usurp Lorkhans influence.
Also, Akatosh had the opportunity to rid itself of daedra worshipping elves (Ayleids), and appease Pelinal's bloodlust, and, also co-opt what Pelinal did as he's regarded as a champion of a pantheon not including Lorkhan. Ayleids got thrown under the bus.
Wasn't part of the deal for Akatosh's help that Lorkhan not be in the Allessian pantheon?

While it could be that the Amulet is Lorkhan's blood, I don't see how it's possible that it was created in an Ayleid well.
That would mean Ayleids already had an Empire before or during the Dawn Era, and that they came to Tamriel even before the Aldmer which is impossible.

    • @Altrantis

Time was barelly lineal during the dawn age and it was wonky during the merethic era. So it's possible.

@@AltrantisIsn't there a possibility that the Amulet of Kings and its surrounding concepts were created by Tiber Septim to cement his rule retroactively after he reached Chim? I mean, he changed the climate of Cyrodiil from being rather tropical to be more temperate - He had the power to change reality through the state of Chim and Zero-summing.

While I agree that the Aedra are more complex than the dogmatic views of Tamrielic religions. I'd say it would be best to consider man's role in regards to Akatosh morphing out of Auri-El. It is quite important as they are effectively distinct in some regards due to that insane ritual by the Alessian cult. Also, Martin being able to mantle Akatosh and not Shor/Lorkhan discredits the notion Akatosh was not infused with the Amulet of Kings. Albeit as you stated it truly would have been moreso to Auri-El than Akatosh as it was created prior to the dragon break. Much of it is probably nonsensical as the time frames do not align. Was it from prior times in the days of the Ayleids or at Al-Esh Paravant's deathbed? Either way according to "historical" texts Auri-El would not be 'separated' from Akatosh at that time. So, the lore has way too many inconsistencies.

    • @adrianmcbride1666

Considering a dragon break is literally time shattering, does it really make sense to expect all it's fallout to be chronological? Parts of it could very well happen before or after because, well, time broke.

One thing people forget when it comes to the strength of Aedra and daedra. Is that daedra are indeed stronger, however Aedra and Daedra nearly have unlimited power in their planes of existence. Mandus was made by the Aedra and so they control it having more power on it over the otherwise more powerful daedra.

I love Skyrim but if ur gonna roleplayba dragonborn then by lore reasons you can only be nord, imperial, or breaton really. I know it says anyrace in lore but all have beem humna because akatosh is in the human pantheon. Also your blessed by akatosh an aedra at birth. So it kinda wants you to go down a hero path. Which is cool.but sometimes I just wanna pick some pockets lol but breaking roleplay kills my mood.

I'm more inclined to believe the Chim El-Adabal is Akatosh's blood. If it is indeed the blood of Lorkhan, how could it have fallen into an Ayleid well when Lorkhan was torn asunder before the Ayleids ever came to be? And we have a decent amount of in-game evidence that points to ebony being the blood of Lorkhan, so would that suggest the Chim El-Adabal was ebony? If so, why doesn't it look like ebony?

The book amulet of kings was changed from lorkhan to akatosh between the games of morrowind and oblivion.
Kyne sent Alessia Whitestrake, a dragonborn who is a shezzarine
      Shezzars are shards of lorkhan
The book describes the witnesses as seeing a dragon bent over alessia’s bedside. Whitestrake was the one at her side, whitestrake was the one who gave her the amulet.
There is more evidence proving that it was lorkhan.
