@@ernesto9210 my mom was attempting to explain the scene where Gene is bent over walking loudly so Richard could hear him...she did this on a very public street...funniest thing I'd ever seen!!!

But I saw him in "The Producers" at a TERRIBLE time in my life...and I laughed again for the first time in a couple of years..I excused myself and told him how much he changed my life... I met Gene on one of his book tours. I was a bit star struck I must admit and I have met many celebs in my life. He was very kind and approachable. He lived a interesting life. RIP Gene. Your are missed...
I think many more people than you think do in fact, know how brilliant Gene was, and would agree with you. However, he was an “old school Hollywood” actor. Intensely private, as far as celebrities go. He’s not someone that the everyday person would think of when they think of a “legendary actor,”… but mention Willy Wonka, or Young Frankenstein, or Blazing Saddles, Silver Streak, Stir Crazy, even The Producers, etc., etc., and you’re bound to hear people say “oh him?? He was great! I loved him!!”
Something about him was so special. Seemed like a genuinely nice person, with a great sense of humor. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a favorite growing up. We watched Young Frankenstein at school the last day of my senior year. I still love that movie!
Charlie And The Chocolate Factory starred Johnny Depp, which Gene Wilder felt was an insult. He liked Johnny as an actor and appreciated his earlier work, but he didn't like it; he felt it was an insult. Same basic opinion for Tim Burton. Appreciated his earlier work as a director but felt it was an insult.
In his later years, Gene was criminally underutilized. I Would have loved to have seen him in more films late on in his life. You can't call him "underrated" though. I believe everyone knows just how special this man truly was.
@@tophadam9616 I'll have to watch more of his interviews. I can respect that. He approached roles as artistic inspiration as opposed to doing it to make money (like Hollywood actors/studios today). Can you imagine if all actors and studios *only* made movies because of a deeply-inward burning inspiration? I imagine we wouldn't have the famine of quality films (like what we have now). Maybe that's why movies used to be a lot better? They could learn a thing or two from Mr. Wilder.
@@ontologicallysteve7765 yep i heard him on a podcast talking about how comedy change and for the bad as he saw it. Too much nasty filthy gross humor for him.
Saw him on a Will and Grace episode in his later years, as well as an interview he did with Barbara Walters. That was about it as far as his exposure. I loved him and miss him.
You will live forever in your films and the hearts of your fans. You are one of the reasons I decided to go back to college so late in my life. Thank you, Jerome Silberman, forever known as Gene Wilder. Thank you.

In 2015, we were dining out at restaurant in Pennsylvania, halfway through our meal, we spot a man who looks like Gene Wilder, we knew what he looked like in movies but he aged, so as we look over he slowly turns and locks eye contact for a solid 10 seconds, then winks and goes back to eating, we never approached him out of respect. To this day we never know if that truly was him.
" is this where you and Gilda lived when you were married " " what in the dining room " only gene could say that and it'll still be hilarious My favourite Actor Luv you So so much RIP ❤❤❤
What an amazing man. For as hard as we reach for the American dream it's so good to see someone laugh in the face of his accomplishments and just find peace his life and family.
Funny how My generation can start to like an actors persona and go down a rabbit hole in their inspiration, I can see gene wilder in Andy Kaufman and I know that they both inspired each other indirectly
Was wondering if this might be up loaded since we all heard of Mr. Wilder's death....This actually aired 3 days after Pope John Paul II and my own mother's funerals as well......We ALL do this dance in life....doesn't make the deaths any more pleasurable, I personally use them to remind myself that times are indeed slipping away.........
Gene may be gone but will never forgotten. Just the mere thought of him make me smile & selfishly I'd have loved to see him in more movies doing what he did best....make us laugh...

What a legend
I remember when Gilda Died. Ten years earlier I lost my mom to cancer, and knew it well as a 7 year old. I felt for mr. Wilder.
That must be very hard to deal with isn't it...
Wilder will forever stand out for his delivery and timing. He is simply unmatched in the most wonderful way.
Remember seeing Young Frankenstein as a kid in the theater, you just did not want it to end.
