This was an excellent interview. Gene Wilder is a national treasure, and this interviewer did an absolutely awesome job. I only wish it were longer! I could have watched this thing all day!
Thanks for this interviews after reading 'It's Always Something' the comments that Mr. Wilder made about Ms. Radner- Wilder makes so much sense now. He was a good husband to her and obviously a loyal husband to his wife now.how refreshing in today's Hollywood.
Such a wonderful man! Always loved him, always will. We sure need another Gene Wilder film at the movie theater. I can see why he's semi-retired from acting. The type of films he does are in very short supply nowadays. Not many actors like Gene Wilder around anymore. Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks are comedy genius!
Some of my earliest and fondest memories are of Gene Wilder and his films. He will forever be a part of me and my family. There is just something so magnanimous and forgiving about him, and yet there is pain and sorrow behind his eyes. This man is a legend of film.
Ah, to see a man who has truly lived life. Such pain, such experience. Living out his twilight years writing about his life, and the lives of his characters. Very in touch with himself. I feel he can impart a great deal of wisdom to us all.
I was on a RuPaul tangent and watched the interview between Ernie ManouseI and RuPaul and was blown away by Ernie. Documentaries and interviews are my main source of entertainment and have watched too many to count. Ernie Manouse hasn't just raised the bar, he's sent it to space. I have been saving this video due to Mr Wilder being such a legend in my eyes, this was such a touching interview and I'm so happy it was shared for all to see. Thanks
Am I the only one who loves Gene's voice? It's so soft and soothing! I swear he could be reading the phone book and I'd be listenting intently, happy as a clam!
What a dear man Gene Wilder clearly is. That he has survived a lifetime in show business with so much warmth, honesty and sensitivity still intact is really remarkable. I always thought him funny, but from now on I'll think him that and so much more.
I’ve seen so many interviewers do a great job interviewing him, I think it’s not about as much as what a great interviewer they are, but what a great interview they can conduct cause of the amount of real respect they have..which is very easy so easy to give this man. RESPECT
Gene is one of my biggest influences to pursue comedy. He fits into a small handful of comedic actors that I would consider the worlds greatest (Pryor, Carlin, Cheech & Chong, Louis CK, Brand, Stanhope etc). It's all in his delivery and especially in his eyes. Watch his eyes in any of his movies when he delivers lines. It's almost as if he presents a look of innocence and sometimes amused ignorance as he delivers his lines. Brilliant!
My favorite scene is when he comes out of the subway bathroom with the boombox pretending to be a black guy in "Silver Streak" lmao. Also, the we don't take no shit scene in "Stir Crazy". Epic, just epic. RIP Gene.
What a class act. And I have to say, the interviewer is excellent: he asks good questions, and gets out of the way to let Gene answer. I can't remember the last time I heard an interviewee able to finish his answer completely without interruption.
A wonderful human bean I always have loved his acting especially with Richard Pryor i loved Willy Wonka and the women in red with Kelly le Broc. God bless him and RIP the great Gene Wilder very humble man. I miss him heaps.
He means that he was unhappy while he was with Gilda, most likely because of her condition, being with someone who has cancer can be difficult, but he definitely doesn't mean that he stopped loving her or that he was upset at her.
Kiss Me Like a Stranger turned me into a Library. I loaned it to a friend who loaned it to a friend, who loaned it to a friend, etc etc. I think my copy was read about 50 times, and only 3 by me. That book changed my life.
What a brilliant interview! Everything I've seen Gene Wilder in I liked and that's not to say I have seen all his work. To me he comes across as a kind and gentle soul, a man who if you were able to call him friend, you were lucky to do so. I've often said that American comedy is mostly rubbish & sometimes that's so but never, when it comes to Gene Wilder. I think we all owe him a huge debt, for all the happiness and laughter he has given us.
This was great. Thank you for uploading this interview. Gene is a great talent. Watching him on screen brings joy. The only time he didn't bring happiness was when he stopped acting.
Mr.Wilder has his place in the pantheon of great entertainers. Every movie, from the little turn in "Bonnie and Clyde" through "The Producers" and "Young Frankenstein", "Blazing Saddles". He guarantees a fine and funny performance. As a man, he seems so kind and gentle.
PS: (RIP) TO THE FORMER WILLY WONKA, THE LATE GENE WILDER, A TRULY WONDERFUL COMEDIC ACTOR WHO WILL BE SORELY MISSED, BUT HIS PAST ACTING WORK IS PRESERVED FOREVER ON DVD/BLU-RAY. PLEASE (RIP) DEAR SIR, YOUR COMEDY WILL ALWAYS BE TIMELESS.
I was born in the 60's and Gene was a BIG part of my life for I love movies and he is in 3 of my top 10 of all time (YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN-WILLY WONKA-SILVER STREAK) a part of me will die when he dies :(
The day this man passes on, it will be an extremely sad day, especially for anyone that truly enjoyed his work in theater, movies, or his books. truly a magical genuine special man. i have ALWAYS been a fan of Gene, and Mel Brooks of course, they were a great duo.
Wow - I'm staggered at his honesty in this interview given his position. It'd be so much easier for him to say nice things about the remakes and his relationship with Gilda but no; he's completely honest about them at the risk of estranging some fans and former colleagues. I couldn't agree more with him about the Young Frankenstein/Chocolate Factory remakes. Some things just do not need redoing. It's greedy and takes away from the original. What an unpretentious man - what a pleasant surprise.
For a big-name actor, he had remarkably little ego, didn't put on any airs, and didn't behave like a prima donna. Sincere, thoroughly decent, and forthright are words I would use to describe him.
He will always be Willy Wonka to me. Nobody could play Wonka like Gene Wilder did. He will be terribly missed my the acting and movie business. He was one heck of a talented movie actor and Willy Wonka will always be what I will always remember him by.
Story of how Gene Wilder inspired me: Besides Robin Williams... Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is one of me favourite Movies from me #4 favourite Actor of ALL-TIME... Gene Wilder :D :D :D I really lovey love love love this Movie SOOO much because I feel like I'm in a different World (In the Movie) and I am literally with Willy Wonka traveling with him in his wonderful Chocolate-Factory and I am the last Child to take over his Chocolate-Factory. Furthermore, there is ALOT of parts in the Movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" that always makes me cry (teary-eyed) because it just brings back memories whenever I watch the Movie several times and the parts itself are simply so super duper wuper beautiful, amazing, fun, fantastic, and other positive words! :') :') :') :') :') :') So today I am going to remember Gene Wilder... So am going to watch watched the "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" for the MILLIONTH time on VUDU because today, August 29th, 2016- Monday, marks the day he died today :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( Then after watching the Movie today, I am going to play the Song "Scrumdiddlyumptious" (Which is me #1 favourite Song from Nick) by the most awesomest and coolest Bloke ever... I just wish he was still alive so I can thank him (In Real-Life, personally) for EVERYTHING that he has done to me and to cast him in me 2028 Movie. Plus on August 27th, 2016- Saturday, what a coincidence, I watched the "Scrumdiddlyumptious" Song-Video and on August 29th, 2016- Monday, he died... Then on May 13th, 2016- Friday, I watched the "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" Movie and after watching the Movie... I REALLY WANTED TO CAST HIM IN ONE OF ME FUTURE Movies!!! Now I cannot. I have Autism/Aspergers, which makes it hard for me, and me expressing who I am, how I feel, doing things, and etc... I just watch anything with Gene Wilder to help me, besides Robin Williams. I have been struggling with this Mental Illness since I was 3 Year's Old. The Peep's who has been supporting/fighting for me and giving advice to me all of me 13 Year's, was me Mum, Da, other Family-Members, and Non-Physical Gene Wilder and Robin Williams. But when I first watched the Movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" for the very 1st time at age 13 Year's Old (Currently 16 Year's Old)... With Gene Wilder it made me better. It made me feel special. It literally changed me Life. The Movie itself and Gene Wilder, it influenced me to be meself by not being shy anymore but being more confident by Communicating alot, standing up for meself to Bullies, make new Mates, making more Short-Films, confident in Acting, being helpful, showing who I am (Of how I am Creative and Intelligent), expressing feelings, and other positive things. So I want to thank you, Gene Wilder for inspiring me with yourself and Movies, and what you used to do. I cannot describe the words that I am feeling right now because of Gene Wilder helping me in the non-physical World. He truly inspired me. This Quote "Time is a precious thing. I am going to watch the Movie "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate" until I die and show me future Children aswell of how Gene Wilder was the Man who inspired me, besides Robin Williams. Gene Wilder is still the Candy and Chocolate Maker even if he is in Heaven. R.I.P. Gene Wilder June 11th, 1933 to August 29th, 2016 🌹🌹🌹
One of the most beatiful men in the world, inside and out. Such a kind heart. God I would do anything to marry a man like him. I'm way too young of course, and he's married. But if I were older, well, that's a different story. I love him so much! I listen to Pure Imagination nonstop. He is a genius, too. No one can beat his ideas. Love always
excellent. thank you for asking such good questions with out belittling nor, offending. it's so rare to see a good interviewer do it right. again, excellent.
What I love about retrospective interviews is the raw and frank openness. The bareness of the actor's soul to confess what drove them. Even if it's something that might not look good at the time.
Gene Wilder will always be in my heart one of the best and most gifted actors we have ever had-he is a true original like no one else. He has such a gentle soul and truly one of my top 5 movie stars of all time-what a legend! Hope he continues to thrive for many years and love seeing and hearing from him anytime. I truly wish, regardless of age, he would come back and make some more movies and share his gift with us again-miss seeing him on screen! He is a special guy!

Well said Chris, did you know he turned down a part in the Blues Brothers and it was something he regrets because he was a mate of John bulshi.
Definitely
Ah, to see a man who has truly lived life. Such pain, such experience. Living out his twilight years writing about his life, and the lives of his characters. Very in touch with himself. I feel he can impart a great deal of wisdom to us all.
I really miss him along with Robin Williams. Those two can make you laugh, but also make you feel a warmth not given often by comedic actors! ❤
He made me cry at the end!
This has to be one of the most pleasant interviews I've ever seen. Mr. Manouse makes James Lipton look like Maury.
you are going to be missed Gene 😇❤💕💖❤💕❤💕💖❤💕💖❤💕💖❤💕💖❤💕💖❤
A gentle soul, a kind man and an icon of movies and stage. You are missed Gene Wilder.

I agree..would love to see Gene again in a full length motion picture. That "character" you described he did in a reoccurring role on "Will & Grace".
Gonna miss you Gene!

a wonderful legend , a pleasure to watch him interviewed.
He seems so down-to-earth. I'd just like to have lunch with him sometime.

excellent. thank you for asking such good questions with out belittling nor, offending. it's so rare to see a good interviewer do it right. again, excellent.
What I love about retrospective interviews is the raw and frank openness. The bareness of the actor's soul to confess what drove them. Even if it's something that might not look good at the time.
Yeah, he is getting up there. He turns 79 next month (his birthday is June 11th)! :)
Such a gentle person.
It's amazing how his voice sounds exactly the same.
he says hes the happiest man now, but he seems so melancholy.
God bless him for being such a great entertainer but more so for beinga greater person
I think I've seen Stir Crazy about a 100 times.
Me too !
I really miss Gene Wilder movies, what a funny, charming man. I love how he still has the big blue eyes and crazy blonde hair.
Great interview, Ernie! I'm a huge fan of Gene Wilder and after watching this I'm a fan of yours now. You are the best interviewer I've seen since Bob Costas. Keep up the good work, sir!

GW will always be one of my favourite actors/writers. This interview was humbling! What an incredible man. I wish he'd come out with something now, a triumphant comeback like Alan Arkin in Little Miss Sunshine. You're the best, Gene!
He needs to keep making movies, he has so much talent left. We need to learn more about ourselves, he teaches us how to be human/tolerant
omg this is gonna make me cry cause i thought he was a lot younger and he may pass away soon! D':
One of the most pleasant 15 mins i have spent in a long long while, you come away feeling better about life for some reason, at least i did anyway.........
