As someone who has worked nightshifts at McDonalds, I empathize with that first employee. He's absolutely in the wrong, but I felt his pain. The one I worked at would get swamped every night. Annoyingly, the expectation of the nightshift was that we clean the building because it was supposed to be slow. It was so frustrating when morning shift would come in and fuss at us for not cleaning the restaurant when we literally couldn't because we were constantly swamped with customers. And the grand, rotten cherry on top was getting big orders through Uber at the worst possible times.

@@thisismyyoutubecommentacco6302 Those jobs are twice as essential. A burger can be grilled by a machine, McDonalds was experimenting with it decades ago, but the cashier is the accountability part of that chain, if the machine messes up there's nobody who can take responsibility and fix the problem, they'll just say "that sucks" or people will take customers at their word and the business will be scammed out of free food. McDonalds is actually rolling back their goofy AI drive-thru order-taker because it consistently gets orders wrong, and I've heard the same from folks I know who work at Carl's Jr. At this point it's pretty clear robots will replace artists and musicians long before they can replace service industry workers, because of that A word: accountability.

On the other hand, there are probably countless people like me who had this exact mindset and still couldn't get it under control. If that sounds like you, you may have ADHD. You should get it checked out. There are treatment options. I've had it all my life but my parents didn't believe in it, so I never got checked as a kid. Grew up hating myself for what amounts to the effects of messed up brain chemistry: laziness, lack of care for my environment, trouble with timeliness, etc. No doubt a lot of people just have character flaws. But if you have truly tried to change, maybe multiple times, and you just can't do it, you may just want to get checked for a disorder. This is also not an excuse to be lazy or a way to shirk responsibility. This is a way of taking responsibility. If your brain chemistry keeps you from being a functional human being, it's your responsibility to get it fixed as well as possible.

You’re not putting out fires, though it might feel like that at times, you’re giving people food. Food that they pay for.
Personally, on the really bad nights (especially if a bajilion sandwiches need to be made right at closing), I’m more of a fan of taking out my frustrations on the morning crew. The people who rarely bother to clean or restock anything and therefore don’t deserve a clean kitchen.

Man, there are entire countries that run on polychronic time where being late is not even a recognized concept. I doubt being late has ever caused anyone to die. A surgeon being late doesn't mean someone doesn't get treatment, it means his coworkers have to work slightly longer before he shows up, that's it. Idk what image you have of hospitals but generally, they don't allow one doctor to leave the emergency surgery department completely unstaffed when he leaves without making sure another doctor is taking over his shift. Especially shift based workplaces like hospitals are virtually immune to dips in efficiency because of employees being late.

It does not apply to you being late to your shift. Why? Because of what I just explained. If someone comes into the emergency room with a life threatening injury, there will always be at least one surgeon on call. And that surgeon will hurry to help you. But if the next person to take over a shift is late, that doesn't mean a patient has to wait longer. It just means other doctors have to work longer. Do you understand?

@@gownerjones I do, but I would counter with how long said shift is and how well rested the person on shift is. Because you could have a shift where next to nothing happens and everything is fine....or there is a traffic accident and now the hospital is slammed and the guy on call is absolutely at his wits end tired. A tired or stressed doctor just like any person is more likely to make mistakes so if the next guy in shift is late then who's to say something might get forgotten or fucked up?

      @gownerjones 26 днів тому

@@officerbucktuddrussel394 Let me say first, I agree with you that we shouldn't restructure all of society for the small minority of us who can't deal with time. But I seriously think that being late as a doctor in a hospital is not a life threatening situation. What you're saying is right of course, the people who have to work longer will be more exhausted as they work. But that's an issue caused not by people being late but rather by understaffing. Because remember that the doctor who has to work longer one day will be able to leave early or come in late another day. It statistically cancels out in terms of added effort or exhaustion. What you explained is caused by shifts that are set for too long from the outset. When you have a 12h shift and then you have to stay an hour or two longer, that can be bad. But that's because a 12h shift is already inhumane and horrible and that's caused by a lack of personnel. In a world where a hospital is not understaffed and the normal shift of a doctor is 6-8h long, staying an hour or two late wouldn't significantly impact performance. Being late is not the issue.

As a kid I struggled really damn hard to keep in contact with my parents while I was over at a friend's place. I would get so drawn into hanging out with my pals that I'd never think to look at a clock and call home to check in. But that was also back before alarm clocks became portable, and now that I have a phone in my pocket all the time I can set alarms and timers for whatever the hell I need to so I don't miss something important.

I have trouble remembering things, therefore I write things down. I have tons of notes on my computer and paper notes around my house. If you have "time blindness" or whatever, just set alarms. Whenever people are bad at something nowadays they don't do anything to actually work around the problem, they just let it fester and use it as an excuse, it's disgusting.

What gets me about the doordash order is that the store has to confirm the order before the dasher ever gets there. If they didn't want to do the order, just deny it, instead, and it would have never come to that. It would have been cancelled and refunded.

I've never called it time blindness, but I'm autistic and sometimes get so fixated on things I wouldn't go to appointments.
So everything is on my phone calendar and I get notifications when I need to get ready to go somewhere and where it is. I'm never late. That's the accomodation... your phone calendar.

That first video with the Mcdonald's employee reminds me of the time I was going home after a long day of work and it was 10:30 at night, the local mcdonalds closes at 11 so I go by to get something to eat, I pull up and no one says anything through the drive thru mic, I call out and no one says anything, I give it a few minutes and drive around to see (presumably) all of the staff just sitting around doing nothing in the lobby. Was half tempted to go in and see if they take an order but I was honestly expecting either the food to be worse than the usual or them to tell me to go away so I just went home hungry lol.

I am effectively time blind, not helped by my circadian rhythm being absolutely fucked because I am so cripplingly agoraphobic I literally don't go outside except when I have appointments for shit or bring in groceries. You know what really helps with that? I set god damn alarms and timers when I need to.

Time blindness is an ADHD symptom. The accomodation is literally stimulant medication.
When I am on my meds, I always arrive at work 5mins early, when I am off my meds I always arrive 5 minutes late. Simple as, everyone should just do amphetamines.

Most of the time "time blindness" is a manifest symptom of ADHD or depression. We don't know a lot about depression but we can deduce that environment and habit as well as other underlying mental illnesses can manifest depression.
I have ADHD and so much of my life and habits are centered around avoiding the repercussions of the inabilities that gives me. Forget your wallet and keys a lot? put them on a carabiner on your belt so if you are leaving the house wearing pants you won't forget your keys and wallet. Bad at time management? Set alarms.
Reasonable accommodations are there for when personal responsibility isn't going to solve all the problems. It's an employer meeting an employee halfway. Example: UC/Crohn's/IBD. "I will watch my diet and avoid trigger foods and visit a gastroenterologist regularly, but you have to have bathrooms available and allow me to leave my work place at a moment's notice so I can run to the toilet." Not "you need to plumb a toilet into my cubicle and I will never try to treat my disorder"

A common misconception about tipping in the US: if a server does not make the minimum wage requirement for their state, the employer MUST pay the difference for them to make minimum wage. I.e. servers make AT LEAST minimum wage in every state.
From what ive been told from friends of mine, they often made an equivalent of $12-$15 an hour (in Texas, where I made $10 an hour in retail).
EDIT: This is a misconception that I've seen repeated literally multiple times in this comment section. 😪

For the guy that didn't want to shave his face every day, laser hair removal is an option it can be a bit pricey depending on where you get and require a few seasons but it will dramatically reduce the amount of shaving needed.

It's not that dear when you factor in the long term effects and if he really is what he claims he is sessions of laser would be on the cards anyways possibly some electrolysis if he has some really hard hairs which can really add up. Comes across as a trender though as you normally have more important things going on.

In Canadian cities that don't have bylaws against it, your tip is divided between the servers, the kitchen staff, the manager and even the restaurant owner. Your tip reflects your opinion of the entire restaurant "ambiance", the quality of the food, the quality of the service, and the attractiveness of the wait staff. Toronto considered introducing a bylaw against this three mayors ago, but it didn't pass.

As a dude who does work at a "fast food place" (It's more of a combo gas station/convenience store with an emphasis on made-to-order food), I do understand very much why the McDonald's guys were freaking the fuck out - people downplay fast food as a job for idiot teens, while the reality is that in any time-sensitive food service job, stress goes through the fucking roof once you hit your breaking point and the orders just keep rolling in. Shit, we've got two teens total at our store, and they only do register because they simply aren't fast in the kitchen at all, teens are not the preferred stock and standard of your usual burger joint.
He obviously should have handled it differently; as a manager, he's got the right to simply refuse service, and he could have lied and said they were having equipment issues (Fryers, etc.), plus it's also within his right to simply refund the order and maybe slip the Doordash lady a few bucks for her frustration, you gotta be good to people in the ecosystem because they're just trying to live comfortably too.
But all that said, I feel the guy. We had a wall of orders that were 20 minutes late and had to basically just eat ass every time we handed food out, apologizing profusely, just earlier on my shift - my buddy DJ, sweetest guy in the world, got so fucking mad that he punched the wall.
Definitely a stupid, idiotic reaction from the manager, and yet I can say confidently that most mentally stable people would reach about that stress level after a fucking day-long shift at a busy restaurant. All corporate cares about is results, which means your whole shift-long experience is being nervous and irritated about every little detail of the job, without any release or incentive to keep you going besides your (In my state) heavily-taxed wages.
Don't be a dick to Doordash drivers though, they're literally always within reasonable distance of hitting you with a fucking car.
