I got 6 Trapezohedrons farming Plantiun Ingots Killing Adamantoise. Equip Connoisseur Catalog (reached to Max Upgrade Level) That be easier to get Traps.

@@Lamasis2 same here honest i think lightning returns was the biggest struggle for me out of the three idk if it was due to it not being played like a traditional ff or if it was the time contrants but man that one took me a long time. It burnt me out a few times. Think it took over a year to get back to it after putting it down the first time.
@@lestort Probably both for Lightning Returns. I like to take my time to explore here and there, but in Lightning Returns I had to pre plan before I even sarted playing because of the time, and only having one character in a FF game.
I tried, I REALLY tried. I actually really enjoyed FFXIII and think that it is criminally underrated but some of those trophies were just fucking draconian. I got everyone SO FAR (or so I thought) on the Crystal grid. I just remember think "GOD!!!! It just KEEPS GOING" and the one for obtaining EVERY FUCKING ITEM! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? I was so stoked when I got Adamant Will (fell a giant of the lower world) but once I started going through and seeing all I would have to do to get that plat, my heart just sank. Like, "why Square? I've been a loyal fan for over 20 year. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?!?!😭
What I’ve learned from 30 years of playing FF... elixirs, mega elixirs, tent, and etc don’t do anything except sit in the item box the entire game! I think FF15 and FF7R are the only games that made it okay to use items
One thing not mentioned about Final Fantasy IV, there's an item called the Siren that was dummied out of the international release of the original game, it was in the GBA and PSP remakes. You could have stolen it from the Searcher enemy in the tower of babil or the giant of babil. If you didn't then you can still find searchers in some rooms of the Lunar Ruins. the Siren forces an encounter, and if you use it in a specific room of the Subterrane, that encounter will always be flan princesses.
I remember getting Lulu's weapon with the lightning dodging it 250 times, I lost count and decided to go a but longer... The end count was over 525 jumps. I felt a strange sense of self hate and admiration for it.
Lulus isn't too bad honestly. If you stand under the lightning tower then run it, it strikes right away. After you dodge just run back under and wait a a few seconds. Rinse and repeat. Tidus and the chocobo balloon is Rage inducing though
I feel like I used a baltoro seed out of curiosity and was just all ‘huh.. neat?’ because ff12 doesn’t super clearly communicate when you have a ton of status effects active
A year late, but I'd like to point out that for IV's Pink Tail, most newer versions of the game make it a lot easier to at least have a shot at the tail thanks to the glory that is the "Siren" item. Using this item calls the rarest encounter in the area's encounter table to face you immediately. In the original version of the game, I believe you could only get them from Siren enemies, but newer versions allow you to buy them later on (though, granted they are expensive). It definitely cuts down on a lot of the more obnoxious grind-work. At least you are always fighting the Flan Princesses.... then it is just a matter of time, and you are getting loaded up with EXP, Gil, Elixirs and Megalixirs while hunting the tails... so... worth.

When in doubt, my go to is more levelling, higher stats, decent gear and strategy. Rare items (and some gear) are a PAIN to obtain, so I try the bullheaded approach most often lol. Great video
I remember thinking I was going to try and complete my fishing log in XIV... Yeah, I just went for Triple Triad cards instead. That's so much easier, especially after the latest patch, because catching big fish is ridiculously stupid.
I was farming for Platinum Ingots and Trapezohedrons earlier this year. Once you get a good rhythm going, it's almost a zen feeling. Very chill. I listened to podcasts while I did it for about 25 hours of gameplay.
This!! I had a pattern with sazh and his eidolon fighting that adamantortise in eden and I would just spend days farming for the ingots and traps listening to music and just vibing
I've fished every fish in FFXIV, and Ruby Dragon alone took me more than 3 monthes, trying as many windows as possible to catch it. It was hell. I almost cried when i finally got it. But there are several fishes which are notorious for being hard to catch (looking at you Warden of the Seven Hues and Stethacanthus).
I have literally screamed from frustration over FF14 fishing, hahaha... and yet in some ways it's so satisfying when you DO finally land some ludicrously rare creature. Great video once again!
Me right now during spearfishing, just need one more to finish the spear fishing portion of the log but I gotta gig 10 certain fish on one node to open up a hidden node and then 3 of a certain fish for the one I need to even show up
Yes, especially if you don't know how to break the way rules are set up and traded and such. I remember getting several of them, but could never get ones like Edea, Seifer, and of course the whole Card Queen Quest.

@@apnwu369 I think a lot of these sort of rare items all fall into that problem. It takes a helluva long time to get it, and by the time you get it you're so powerful or skilled at the game that you simply don't need it. I suppose you could remedy that by saving a super boss to fight until after you get that item, but then what becomes the reward for beating the super boss? Maybe that's what Trophies and Achievements are for, but I don't get much value out of those.
I agree. I got it in n ps2 version. In the ps4 version I tried for 3 to 4 hours a day for 11 months and have finally given up. The chocobo is not controllable at all. If you take you hands off controller you will see bird does what it wants and goes all over the place. Stupid hard mini game.
I once got exactly 00:00:00 but didnt get the item because apparently you have to get it LOWER than that (though it doesnt show). I literally lost a soul lol
Funny thing about the Pink Tail is that it owes part of its infamy to how awesome the reward is (Adamant Armor). Otherwise it's not actually the hardest item in the game to grind for. (I'd argue Protect Ring claims that title, followed by Glass Mask and Crystal Ring, then the Mind Flayer summon)
and that's just ONE FISH. There's a lot of them. And i do mean *a lot* of them. The video doesn't even go into *why* the "bait" required for it is rare, since the concept of Mooching takes a while to explain (short answer: You catch fish that have to be used to catch other fish)
lmao, Malboro has always been that "oh shit" enemy that I first encounter in every final fantasy game I've played because I know they're capable of some nasty ailments if you aren't ready.
FFIV is one of my favorites in the series. I've spent countless hours through at least a dozen or so playthroughs since the SNES era... And today I learned about the pink tail. 😳
Plus other stuff like the Medusa Sword that can be dropped from Medusas and Basilisks, and the Lilith Rod that can only be dropped by Liliths, and the Dragoon Spear that can be dropped by Red Dragons, and the Dragon Whip that can be dropped by Blue Dragons... and the Rune Staff dropped by things that can summon other enemies in the Cave of Summoned Monsters aka Faemarch, and Rune Axe dropped by Red Giants! I only found out about most of this and Rydia's extra summons through Nintendo Power Magazine and a call to the Game Counselors... but the Bomb does not drop its own summon - only the Balloons and Grenades do, and the Cockatrice Summon was dummied out of the SNES version. With a Game Genie, you could have it if you didn't mind Rydia having a summon spell called "Dummy".
You know I recently had to restart FF9 about 300 times to get a mythril sword steal on Beatrix, because it's only a 10 round fight and you only actually get 2 chances to steal it, and the odds are insanely high. Maybe it would be fun to do a hardest to steal items, all FF games video!
I know the feeling. You can just buy it straight after the fight, but I ALWAYS steal everything from bosses. I've managed it maybe twice on console, but when the remaster dropped and I played FF9 again, I just couldn't do it to myself. I quit the whole playthrough. I've just reached a point in my life where the knowledge of the numbers behind the scenes in games ruin gaming for me. RNG etc. ruined Pokemon games for me too. When I learned how all the RNG works, I just felt like the game was making fun of me. It was almost as if you're being punished, ya know? Either way, I had to learn not to look too deep, and just play for fun and ignore trophies etc. Its pretty liberating actually.

@@adamdam Xbox Series X is a criminally underrated console this gen. Every FF ever made is playable on it, in addition to Gucc Man's Mistwalker titles Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. FFXIII even benefits from enhanced performance thanks to the backwards compatibility program. When money and availability allow, I'll be sitting out Sony this gen and going for a XSX and whatever Nintendo's next console is.

1:15 Super Mario RPG on SNES have this same minigame in the monster village, if you jump 30 and 60 times u got the best hammer and armor for Mario (he takes 1 damage)
I fought a couple just thinking that I was missing an enemy skill or something but turn out to be a run of the mill enemy didn't think the earth mallet was anything special until this video. I've fought killbins before but it was until I was grown, that I found out that they were an extremely rare enemy 🤷
In the DS version of Final Fantasy IV, if you use the siren item, the encounter for flan princess is guaranteed. The easiest way to get the siren is to buy them from the hummingway merchant on the moon, and the easiest way to get the gil for it is to steal Gaia hammers from the steel golems you can encounter in Eblan cave.
I'm pretty sure that's also true in the GBA and PSP versions of Final Fantasy IV... but I think in the SNES version, the Siren item may have been dummied out.
Gotta correct you on some stuff about the Trapezohedron. Long Gui is a 5% drop rate, not 1% so it's much more likely to give one after being killed. Also, you can dismantle Genji Gloves for one, but that's at the cost of one active character being unable to break the 99,999 damage limit since only 3 Genji Gloves can ever be obtained.
This is an excellent listee!!! An item I'd add to this list is the Tinker Bell from FFV. It is a rare drop 1/16th chance. That is bad enough but it is a missable item that can only be gotten from one boss. You also have to beat the boss in a certain form for it to drop. The boss that carries it is the Twin Tania in the N Zone Library. You have to defeat it when it is charging its wave breath attack as fast as possible. if you do all that right you have a 1.16 chance for it to drop.. how fun lol. When I was doing a perfect file on FFV this item was the bane of my life.. that plus the Dragons Beard whips dropped from the RARE Stingray monster in the combined world of FFV.
I spent countless hours trying to get the pink tail to drop on the PS1 version of FFIV and never managed to get it. Then many years later I was taking a transatlantic flight as I was replaying the game on the PSP, and decided I’d spend the entire flight fighting these damn flans until I got the item to drop. And I got it after about 15 minutes, I couldn’t believe it. I don’t know if it’s dumb luck or if they changed the drop rate, but I was glad to have closure on it.
@Vegesther I think it took me like 2 weeks of dragon hunting and flan slaughtering to get all the onion equipment and adamantium armor. Not a particularly fun grind.
And then there's The After Years, which just multiply this by 12. Even with ways to boost the drop rate, it's still a massive pain (especially since you have a limited time to hunt them)
@Vegesther Yeah, I did it on the DS version (where there is NG+ and NG++ for 3 total playthroughs). I remember having to use a specific strat to kill them. It was pretty mind numbing.
Pretty sure that would be the "Alert" or "Siren" item. The Whistle, if memory serves, allowed access to the Big Chocobo's item inventory anytime, anywhere.
I have to be honest I've played FF12 numerous times and done a lot of the side content and hunts because it's one of my top 3 FFs with 9 and 6(and tactics but thats not a mainline), and I never even knew this baltoro seed existed, I have never gotten one. and I even got a zodiac spear in the mines randomly.
Getting a Zodiac Spear in the mines is pretty rare! I got the one from Nabudis, but tried to get a second one in the mines. Never could get it to appear - had an easier time getting six Ribbons!
I'll just add all the dragon tails from FF4 DS. These could be traded for the pieces of the Onion armor set, which is comparable to the Adamantite armor. Like the Pink Tail, they're all rare drops, but unlike the Pink Tail, they can only be obtained from one enemy each and each encounter could have up to two of the monsters at once, if you're lucky. The Pink Tail could be dropped by any of the Flans, even those near the beginning of the game, it just has a higher drop chance the later in the game the monster is. Also, for each tail, you have to trade them one at a time. Even if you have multiples of them, you'll trade them all for a single piece of their associated equipment, which is an issue when two of your characters can wear it. You also need a Pink Tail to complete Namingway's sidequest in the DS version.

In my "perfect" PSP file of FFIV I spent days to get every drop summon for Rydia twice, once for learning it, and the other to have it in the inventory, but the thing that still haunts me was farming enough pink tails to get an Adamant armor for each character that could use it PLUS one to keep in the inventory, it was soul sucking, and I don't think I'll ever play FFIV again...
I've played through FF13 many times. I think only one of those times did I bother getting multiple characters their ultimate weapons(If I get anyone their weapon other than lightning, it's probably Fang or Vanille). While the 6th ATB bar is nice, it's unwholly unneeded in terms of being able to tackle the most challenging bosses/missions in the game. I usually always get Lightning her final tier weapon of my preferred weapon on each playthrough, but the other characters I typically leave at their tier 2 weapons and it's more than adequate. The amount of grind required to get the trapzohedrons required for multiple ultimate weapons is immense and as much as I enjoy the game(one of my favorites in the franchise), I can't be assed to deal with it. I typically upgrade the Axis Blade to Omega Weapon because it's my most preferred weapon for the ATB rate boost, and if I upgrade anything else it's usually Lionheart but I keep it at tier 2 so it can still synthesize abilities such as it's Random: Instant Chain effect, which can be useful with lightning as a ravager. And there-in lies one of the downsides to the ultimate weapons, they can't synthesize abilities anymore which is kinda a bummer, plus they make getting 5 star ratings on certain fights more annoying since it's lowering the battle time requirement in order to obtain that rating, by having an ultimate weapon equipped. They definitely have their place and are powerful, but thankfully you don't need them and you only need to craft one of them in order to get the achievement as far as I know. If you had to get every character an ultimate weapon, that'd be a LOT of grinding.
For Trapezohedron, you can get that pretty easily by dismantling genji gloves. As this game had no superbosses, I farmed just two from the adamantoises and then just dismantled al genji gloves and vanille and fangs final weapon to make the other 4 to get the platinum trophy in 76 hours instead of 100+. There’s literally no point in having the ultimate weapons in this game like FFX where they are actually important
Yeah dude I didn't get this at all. I had trapezohedrons taken care of way on the early end of the only good part of the game, the part where you get to explore.
@@TShadowStalker me two,, but farming those platinum ingots was a pain, had an excellent setup for it, could kill an adomatoise in about 2 mins but the drop rate was awful.

100% items FF9. This is ridiculously tough. Just getting the Excalibur II requires practically beating the game in 10 hours getting all the rest of the items is also ridiculous.
Getting "of dragon's deep", a fishing title when you turn in specific fish, took me about two month to get. I still think I was lucky to get it that quickly.
FFXIIs bazaar system is life changing for me. One of the first rpgs I played, FFXII's battle systems, hunts and rare games and most importantly, the bazaar made me do my homework for the game. Going on gameguides, forums and other walkthrough sites to even get the slightest hint of getting any on the good bazaar items made me realize "This is want I want to do. This [gaming] will and still is my lifelong hobby.
RPG design is pretty interesting to me, so I’d be curious to hear what any of you think about ridiculously low drop but high powered items in general. Personally I’m a fan of the heroic grind they can inspire and especially the near-impossibly rare chance that an unsuspecting player stumbles upon something so special.
I'm of the opinion that its kinda sadistic on the part of the devs and a needlessly frustrating time-sink for players. The vast majority of players who want the most out of a game they paid for with only moderate effort, should not be punished with FOMO, because a tiny percentage of players have no life and nothing better to do than grind a video game for months. Games should be fun, and since video games in the grand scheme of the world don't matter at all, I think the effort to obtain so-called rare items should be minimal to moderate. Life already sucks enough, we shouldn't as gamers have to devote weeks, months or even years to some 1s and 0s that don't really matter. I'm not saying make ultimate weapons etc. 'easy' to get, but just don't make them a 0.0000000000000000001% chance. Its just so stupid!!! I'd say, nothing should be any harder than maybe: "enemy has 10% chance to appear, when you kill it, it has 5% chance to drop what you're looking for." Whatever that amounts to, is the limit of reasonableness IMO.
I just wonder if there are any of these that can figured out without a guide. Sometimes it feels cheap looking at it, but when I read it I wonder "How is someone supposed to figure this out entirely in game?"
@@ericraguzin THIS. I've always had guides to Final Fantasy games and they just annoy me mostly. Theres so much in the games that is utterly unknowable to a normal player. It feels so cheap/sadistic.

At its core, its unhealthy. Its bad for us to do the same shit over and over and over, it just is. There's shit in FF games that have like 0.06% drop rate. Like WTF is that?! Its BS. Pure and simple. To defend it is to be complicit in that BS. Nobody has that kind of time for something so meaningless. I stand by my original arguments. There should be a limit on the kind of RNG odds BS in games. Its a nonsense.
I got every trophy in FFXIII, grinding the heck out of the Gui to get those items. I was such a big FF fan that I felt obligated to do everything in that game to prove the level of my fandom. Fastforward years later and I haven't even bothered to play the DLC in FFXV...like any of it. When I reflect on that, I realize how my fandom is fading. I hope FFXVI reignites my passion for the series.
I haven't got any of these Items, played only FF7 but in FF14 these fish look like inspired by real extinct fish species, Helicoprion, the big filterfeeding Dunkleosteus etc.

as for the original snes release of FF4 i'd have gone with the Artemis Bow, myself.... surprisingly that and goblin summon were the only two super rare drops I got upon first playthrough when it was first snes released....
FFIV: The After Years "Purple Tail" is the hardest item in the entire franchise to obtain for me. 0.4% for a Behemoth, a rare encounter, to drop it. It took me ages to get it. Worth it? No. Satisfying? Yes. AF.
I have to admit, as much as I adore FF4, the grind in TAY is painful. I want to beat it, but I'm a horrible little loot goblin and want to have all the things going into the finale, and that demands perfection. So that means getting everything from each chapter for each character. On the upside, I have the Wii version, which can have its drop table for loot cheesed to hell and back. Doing certain things in a certain way can end up guaranteeing I get what I want, regardless of how long each "run" to get those things can take, anywhere from 2 to 14 minutes, depending on the item. It's worth it, in my opinion. I don't think I'd get through the grind without it.
I tried to farm the pink tail for sooo dang long as a kid. Maxed out the game clock, the gil counter (3-4 times, I think?), and bought 99 of everything I could find; including exlixers. Never did get the dang drop. >_
Part of the problem was that the NA FFII release of the game dummied out a huge number of items and abilities including the Siren. So the FFIVJ release could spawn Flan Princesses with the Siren for 2 stages of RNG for the tails but FFIINA required 3 stages of RNG to get the tails.
@@ultimatecalibur On this note the GBA version has a poorly-designed RNG, so you can actually trigger Flan Princess x5 by saving a few floors down, soft resetting, and then making a mad dash for the room. The fifth or sixth battle (roughly) will be Flan Princess x5. Of course the GBA version also restores the dummied content so it's not super important, but it can save you a Siren if you're doing it the smart way (i.e. get your free fight, use 10 more Sirens, reset if you don't get the Pink Tail). No need to steal 2000 of the things.
You can steal Ghost Hands from the Ghosts in the 3rd round of the Battle Square at the Gold Saucer before getting the Tiny Bronco, if you missed it in Midgar.
Fishing in ff14... During 2.0 the Beast of Brewers Beacon quest was a pain... Double Mooch and weather and time requirements for the titanic sawfish. Now in 6.x and in 5.x you can use GP for mooch and increase hq chances to make it easier, but that fish was a pain in the day..
Death method is still the best imo for trap farming, Vanille with Marlboro Wand (upgraded Belladonna), and mostly using asassination and ruthless. By the time you're strong enough to kill them you won't appreciate the weapons very much. I dismantle Fang's Gae Bolg every time. You get the spear very early and can progress it more naturally and the break it down later. Pushing toward Neochu is very possible with correct accessories, party setup, and of course haste and death.
Fun fact about chests in world map in ff xii is that it is based on rng, you can find a table of it in internet. So just enter a map, find the rng and look the table. Reenter the map if the rng is not good..
14 seems to like it’s specific location, time, and weather. There’s an npc that you can see in the 3 major cities that require 2am eorzia time and it to be raining. It also requires a specific quest chain to of been completed and the dungeon tied to it. It’s a 1% chance to happen and it’s only for a couple seconds from what I’ve seen, but a nice little extra they threw in back in arr.
This is why I'm using emulators for roms on both pc and android with built-in cheats that can save me countless hours to days of grinding Rare items on any console games

One FF7 item that isn't mentioned here is the Holy Torch, which I put in the same category as the Ghost Hand and Vagyrisk Claw (that is, as long as you know they're there, they're easy pickings). Vagyrisk Claw doesn't have to be stolen since you can get three from the first three Fort Condor battles if you don't mind missing the "actual" treasure (nothing unique). There's no such easy option for the Earth Mallet. But if we're not allowing any treasure to be missed and must *steal* the Vagyrisk Claw, then I'd say that's #1 with Earth Mallet being a close #2.
FFX should definitely be included in this list. The amount of insanely difficult celestial weapon challenges alone makes it a good addition. The HP break items are pretty hard to farm as well.
@@superbaas8822 Speaking of items and FFX, that game is very forgiving when it comes to missables. I can't think of any items that are particularly notorious, except Master Spheres due to their finite nature. People tend to complain about Wings to Discovery, but those things are several orders of magnitude removed from a *real* grind.
Hardest item to obtain is an elixer that you will actually be willing to use rather than have it collect dust being saved for when you "need" it.
B-but why use an elixir when I can just use Cure? I can get MP back by resting!

I found grinding for platinum ingots took too long but it was typical for any final fantasy game

@@Lamasis2 same here honest i think lightning returns was the biggest struggle for me out of the three idk if it was due to it not being played like a traditional ff or if it was the time contrants but man that one took me a long time. It burnt me out a few times. Think it took over a year to get back to it after putting it down the first time.
@@lestort Probably both for Lightning Returns. I like to take my time to explore here and there, but in Lightning Returns I had to pre plan before I even sarted playing because of the time, and only having one character in a FF game.
I tried, I REALLY tried. I actually really enjoyed FFXIII and think that it is criminally underrated but some of those trophies were just fucking draconian. I got everyone SO FAR (or so I thought) on the Crystal grid. I just remember think "GOD!!!! It just KEEPS GOING" and the one for obtaining EVERY FUCKING ITEM! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? I was so stoked when I got Adamant Will (fell a giant of the lower world) but once I started going through and seeing all I would have to do to get that plat, my heart just sank. Like, "why Square? I've been a loyal fan for over 20 year. WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ME?!?!😭
What I’ve learned from 30 years of playing FF... elixirs, mega elixirs, tent, and etc don’t do anything except sit in the item box the entire game! I think FF15 and FF7R are the only games that made it okay to use items

Elixirs were all I used in FFXV since potions only healed what health you had left, not the entire bar.
I would argue that items were completely useless in FFVIIR since they are disabled in Hard Mode.

One thing not mentioned about Final Fantasy IV, there's an item called the Siren that was dummied out of the international release of the original game, it was in the GBA and PSP remakes. You could have stolen it from the Searcher enemy in the tower of babil or the giant of babil. If you didn't then you can still find searchers in some rooms of the Lunar Ruins.
the Siren forces an encounter, and if you use it in a specific room of the Subterrane, that encounter will always be flan princesses.
I remember getting Lulu's weapon with the lightning dodging it 250 times, I lost count and decided to go a but longer... The end count was over 525 jumps. I felt a strange sense of self hate and admiration for it.

Lulus isn't too bad honestly. If you stand under the lightning tower then run it, it strikes right away. After you dodge just run back under and wait a a few seconds. Rinse and repeat. Tidus and the chocobo balloon is Rage inducing though

A year late, but I'd like to point out that for IV's Pink Tail, most newer versions of the game make it a lot easier to at least have a shot at the tail thanks to the glory that is the "Siren" item. Using this item calls the rarest encounter in the area's encounter table to face you immediately. In the original version of the game, I believe you could only get them from Siren enemies, but newer versions allow you to buy them later on (though, granted they are expensive). It definitely cuts down on a lot of the more obnoxious grind-work. At least you are always fighting the Flan Princesses.... then it is just a matter of time, and you are getting loaded up with EXP, Gil, Elixirs and Megalixirs while hunting the tails... so... worth.

I remember thinking I was going to try and complete my fishing log in XIV... Yeah, I just went for Triple Triad cards instead. That's so much easier, especially after the latest patch, because catching big fish is ridiculously stupid.
I was farming for Platinum Ingots and Trapezohedrons earlier this year. Once you get a good rhythm going, it's almost a zen feeling. Very chill. I listened to podcasts while I did it for about 25 hours of gameplay.
This!! I had a pattern with sazh and his eidolon fighting that adamantortise in eden and I would just spend days farming for the ingots and traps listening to music and just vibing

I've fished every fish in FFXIV, and Ruby Dragon alone took me more than 3 monthes, trying as many windows as possible to catch it. It was hell. I almost cried when i finally got it. But there are several fishes which are notorious for being hard to catch (looking at you Warden of the Seven Hues and Stethacanthus).
I have literally screamed from frustration over FF14 fishing, hahaha... and yet in some ways it's so satisfying when you DO finally land some ludicrously rare creature.

@@apnwu369 I think a lot of these sort of rare items all fall into that problem. It takes a helluva long time to get it, and by the time you get it you're so powerful or skilled at the game that you simply don't need it. I suppose you could remedy that by saving a super boss to fight until after you get that item, but then what becomes the reward for beating the super boss? Maybe that's what Trophies and Achievements are for, but I don't get much value out of those.

I agree. I got it in n ps2 version. In the ps4 version I tried for 3 to 4 hours a day for 11 months and have finally given up. The chocobo is not controllable at all. If you take you hands off controller you will see bird does what it wants and goes all over the place. Stupid hard mini game.
I once got exactly 00:00:00 but didnt get the item because apparently you have to get it LOWER than that (though it doesnt show). I literally lost a soul lol

Funny thing about the Pink Tail is that it owes part of its infamy to how awesome the reward is (Adamant Armor). Otherwise it's not actually the hardest item in the game to grind for. (I'd argue Protect Ring claims that title, followed by Glass Mask and Crystal Ring, then the Mind Flayer summon)

FFIV is one of my favorites in the series. I've spent countless hours through at least a dozen or so playthroughs since the SNES era... And today I learned about the pink tail. 😳
Plus other stuff like the Medusa Sword that can be dropped from Medusas and Basilisks, and the Lilith Rod that can only be dropped by Liliths, and the Dragoon Spear that can be dropped by Red Dragons, and the Dragon Whip that can be dropped by Blue Dragons... and the Rune Staff dropped by things that can summon other enemies in the Cave of Summoned Monsters aka Faemarch, and Rune Axe dropped by Red Giants! I only found out about most of this and Rydia's extra summons through Nintendo Power Magazine and a call to the Game Counselors... but the Bomb does not drop its own summon - only the Balloons and Grenades do, and the Cockatrice Summon was dummied out of the SNES version. With a Game Genie, you could have it if you didn't mind Rydia having a summon spell called "Dummy".

You know I recently had to restart FF9 about 300 times to get a mythril sword steal on Beatrix, because it's only a 10 round fight and you only actually get 2 chances to steal it, and the odds are insanely high. Maybe it would be fun to do a hardest to steal items, all FF games video!

I know the feeling. You can just buy it straight after the fight, but I ALWAYS steal everything from bosses. I've managed it maybe twice on console, but when the remaster dropped and I played FF9 again, I just couldn't do it to myself. I quit the whole playthrough. I've just reached a point in my life where the knowledge of the numbers behind the scenes in games ruin gaming for me.
RNG etc. ruined Pokemon games for me too. When I learned how all the RNG works, I just felt like the game was making fun of me. It was almost as if you're being punished, ya know?
Either way, I had to learn not to look too deep, and just play for fun and ignore trophies etc. Its pretty liberating actually.

@@adamdam Xbox Series X is a criminally underrated console this gen. Every FF ever made is playable on it, in addition to Gucc Man's Mistwalker titles Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon. FFXIII even benefits from enhanced performance thanks to the backwards compatibility program. When money and availability allow, I'll be sitting out Sony this gen and going for a XSX and whatever Nintendo's next console is.

I fought a couple just thinking that I was missing an enemy skill or something but turn out to be a run of the mill enemy didn't think the earth mallet was anything special until this video. I've fought killbins before but it was until I was grown, that I found out that they were an extremely rare enemy 🤷
If i remember it right you may also encounter Gigas as a rare enemy in the battle arena in Gold saucer..

In the DS version of Final Fantasy IV, if you use the siren item, the encounter for flan princess is guaranteed. The easiest way to get the siren is to buy them from the hummingway merchant on the moon, and the easiest way to get the gil for it is to steal Gaia hammers from the steel golems you can encounter in Eblan cave.
I'm pretty sure that's also true in the GBA and PSP versions of Final Fantasy IV... but I think in the SNES version, the Siren item may have been dummied out.
Gotta correct you on some stuff about the Trapezohedron. Long Gui is a 5% drop rate, not 1% so it's much more likely to give one after being killed. Also, you can dismantle Genji Gloves for one, but that's at the cost of one active character being unable to break the 99,999 damage limit since only 3 Genji Gloves can ever be obtained.
Dark Matter has its most important appearance in FFVII: The Black Materia. Meteo and Holy were the super spells there.
In FF4, I believe all the color tails and the summons have the rarest drop rate with Pink Tail haven't the second rarest.
I knew Pink Tail was gonna be on here... it's the one item that gave me the most pain. It really is an unpaid seasonal job.

An item I'd add to this list is the Tinker Bell from FFV. It is a rare drop 1/16th chance. That is bad enough but it is a missable item that can only be gotten from one boss. You also have to beat the boss in a certain form for it to drop. The boss that carries it is the Twin Tania in the N Zone Library. You have to defeat it when it is charging its wave breath attack as fast as possible. if you do all that right you have a 1.16 chance for it to drop.. how fun lol. When I was doing a perfect file on FFV this item was the bane of my life.. that plus the Dragons Beard whips dropped from the RARE Stingray monster in the combined world of FFV.
Getting 5 Pink Tails was a nightmare.
I spent countless hours trying to get the pink tail to drop on the PS1 version of FFIV and never managed to get it.
Then many years later I was taking a transatlantic flight as I was replaying the game on the PSP, and decided I’d spend the entire flight fighting these damn flans until I got the item to drop. And I got it after about 15 minutes, I couldn’t believe it. I don’t know if it’s dumb luck or if they changed the drop rate, but I was glad to have closure on it.
Flan Princess can be force-battled by using the Whistle, a one-time use item that forces a battle, provided it's the right room where they show up.
@Vegesther I think it took me like 2 weeks of dragon hunting and flan slaughtering to get all the onion equipment and adamantium armor. Not a particularly fun grind.
And then there's The After Years, which just multiply this by 12.
Even with ways to boost the drop rate, it's still a massive pain (especially since you have a limited time to hunt them)
@Vegesther Yeah, I did it on the DS version (where there is NG+ and NG++ for 3 total playthroughs). I remember having to use a specific strat to kill them. It was pretty mind numbing.
Pretty sure that would be the "Alert" or "Siren" item. The Whistle, if memory serves, allowed access to the Big Chocobo's item inventory anytime, anywhere.

I have to be honest I've played FF12 numerous times and done a lot of the side content and hunts because it's one of my top 3 FFs with 9 and 6(and tactics but thats not a mainline), and I never even knew this baltoro seed existed, I have never gotten one. and I even got a zodiac spear in the mines randomly.
Getting a Zodiac Spear in the mines is pretty rare! I got the one from Nabudis, but tried to get a second one in the mines. Never could get it to appear - had an easier time getting six Ribbons!

I'll just add all the dragon tails from FF4 DS. These could be traded for the pieces of the Onion armor set, which is comparable to the Adamantite armor. Like the Pink Tail, they're all rare drops, but unlike the Pink Tail, they can only be obtained from one enemy each and each encounter could have up to two of the monsters at once, if you're lucky. The Pink Tail could be dropped by any of the Flans, even those near the beginning of the game, it just has a higher drop chance the later in the game the monster is. Also, for each tail, you have to trade them one at a time. Even if you have multiples of them, you'll trade them all for a single piece of their associated equipment, which is an issue when two of your characters can wear it. You also need a Pink Tail to complete Namingway's sidequest in the DS version.

In my "perfect" PSP file of FFIV I spent days to get every drop summon for Rydia twice, once for learning it, and the other to have it in the inventory, but the thing that still haunts me was farming enough pink tails to get an Adamant armor for each character that could use it PLUS one to keep in the inventory, it was soul sucking, and I don't think I'll ever play FFIV again...

I've played through FF13 many times. I think only one of those times did I bother getting multiple characters their ultimate weapons(If I get anyone their weapon other than lightning, it's probably Fang or Vanille). While the 6th ATB bar is nice, it's unwholly unneeded in terms of being able to tackle the most challenging bosses/missions in the game. I usually always get Lightning her final tier weapon of my preferred weapon on each playthrough, but the other characters I typically leave at their tier 2 weapons and it's more than adequate. The amount of grind required to get the trapzohedrons required for multiple ultimate weapons is immense and as much as I enjoy the game(one of my favorites in the franchise), I can't be assed to deal with it.
I typically upgrade the Axis Blade to Omega Weapon because it's my most preferred weapon for the ATB rate boost, and if I upgrade anything else it's usually Lionheart but I keep it at tier 2 so it can still synthesize abilities such as it's Random: Instant Chain effect, which can be useful with lightning as a ravager. And there-in lies one of the downsides to the ultimate weapons, they can't synthesize abilities anymore which is kinda a bummer, plus they make getting 5 star ratings on certain fights more annoying since it's lowering the battle time requirement in order to obtain that rating, by having an ultimate weapon equipped. They definitely have their place and are powerful, but thankfully you don't need them and you only need to craft one of them in order to get the achievement as far as I know. If you had to get every character an ultimate weapon, that'd be a LOT of grinding.
For Trapezohedron, you can get that pretty easily by dismantling genji gloves. As this game had no superbosses, I farmed just two from
the adamantoises and then just dismantled al genji gloves and vanille and fangs final weapon to make the other 4 to get the platinum trophy in 76 hours instead of 100+. There’s literally no point in having the ultimate weapons in this game like FFX where they are actually important

Getting "of dragon's deep", a fishing title when you turn in specific fish, took me about two month to get. I still think I was lucky to get it that quickly.
FFXIIs bazaar system is life changing for me. One of the first rpgs I played, FFXII's battle systems, hunts and rare games and most importantly, the bazaar made me do my homework for the game. Going on gameguides, forums and other walkthrough sites to even get the slightest hint of getting any on the good bazaar items made me realize "This is want I want to do. This [gaming] will and still is my lifelong hobby.
Pink tail was the most frustrating for me. Mostly because I wanted two of them.

RPG design is pretty interesting to me, so I’d be curious to hear what any of you think about ridiculously low drop but high powered items in general. Personally I’m a fan of the heroic grind they can inspire and especially the near-impossibly rare chance that an unsuspecting player stumbles upon something so special.
I'm of the opinion that its kinda sadistic on the part of the devs and a needlessly frustrating time-sink for players. The vast majority of players who want the most out of a game they paid for with only moderate effort, should not be punished with FOMO, because a tiny percentage of players have no life and nothing better to do than grind a video game for months.
Games should be fun, and since video games in the grand scheme of the world don't matter at all, I think the effort to obtain so-called rare items should be minimal to moderate. Life already sucks enough, we shouldn't as gamers have to devote weeks, months or even years to some 1s and 0s that don't really matter.
I'm not saying make ultimate weapons etc. 'easy' to get, but just don't make them a 0.0000000000000000001% chance. Its just so stupid!!!
I'd say, nothing should be any harder than maybe:
"enemy has 10% chance to appear, when you kill it, it has 5% chance to drop what you're looking for." Whatever that amounts to, is the limit of reasonableness IMO.
I just wonder if there are any of these that can figured out without a guide. Sometimes it feels cheap looking at it, but when I read it I wonder "How is someone supposed to figure this out entirely in game?"

I've always had guides to Final Fantasy games and they just annoy me mostly. Theres so much in the games that is utterly unknowable to a normal player. It feels so cheap/sadistic.
@@satyasyasatyasya5746 Most of it isn't required to beat the game, and it's a nice surprise when you get a drop or find something awesome and rare randomly during a normal playthrough. And for people wanting to 100% complete the game, it offers a challenge of finding some things.
@@Skopin RNG with piss-poor odds isn't a challenge. Its just a test of pure, single-minded, frankly masochistic persistence. Its unreasonable and should never have been normalised. At its core, its unhealthy. Its bad for us to do the same shit over and over and over, it just is.
There's shit in FF games that have like 0.06% drop rate. Like WTF is that?! Its BS. Pure and simple. To defend it is to be complicit in that BS. Nobody has that kind of time for something so meaningless.
I stand by my original arguments. There should be a limit on the kind of RNG odds BS in games. Its a nonsense.
I got every trophy in FFXIII, grinding the heck out of the Gui to get those items. I was such a big FF fan that I felt obligated to do everything in that game to prove the level of my fandom. Fastforward years later and I haven't even bothered to play the DLC in FFXV...like any of it. When I reflect on that, I realize how my fandom is fading. I hope FFXVI reignites my passion for the series.

I haven't got any of these Items, played only FF7 but in FF14 these fish look like inspired by real extinct fish species, Helicoprion, the big filterfeeding Dunkleosteus etc.

as for the original snes release of FF4 i'd have gone with the Artemis Bow, myself.... surprisingly that and goblin summon were the only two super rare drops I got upon first playthrough when it was first snes released....
FFIV: The After Years "Purple Tail" is the hardest item in the entire franchise to obtain for me. 0.4% for a Behemoth, a rare encounter, to drop it. It took me ages to get it. Worth it? No. Satisfying? Yes. AF.
I have to admit, as much as I adore FF4, the grind in TAY is painful. I want to beat it, but I'm a horrible little loot goblin and want to have all the things going into the finale, and that demands perfection. So that means getting everything from each chapter for each character.
On the upside, I have the Wii version, which can have its drop table for loot cheesed to hell and back. Doing certain things in a certain way can end up guaranteeing I get what I want, regardless of how long each "run" to get those things can take, anywhere from 2 to 14 minutes, depending on the item. It's worth it, in my opinion. I don't think I'd get through the grind without it.
I tried to farm the pink tail for sooo dang long as a kid. Maxed out the game clock, the gil counter (3-4 times, I think?), and bought 99 of everything I could find; including exlixers. Never did get the dang drop. >_
Should have added the elixir from Lightning Returns.
As for the Pink Tail, in the same room, if you collect a lot of siren item, you can ONLY call Flan Princesses.
Part of the problem was that the NA FFII release of the game dummied out a huge number of items and abilities including the Siren. So the FFIVJ release could spawn Flan Princesses with the Siren for 2 stages of RNG for the tails but FFIINA required 3 stages of RNG to get the tails.
@@ultimatecalibur On this note the GBA version has a poorly-designed RNG, so you can actually trigger Flan Princess x5 by saving a few floors down, soft resetting, and then making a mad dash for the room. The fifth or sixth battle (roughly) will be Flan Princess x5.
Of course the GBA version also restores the dummied content so it's not super important, but it can save you a Siren if you're doing it the smart way (i.e. get your free fight, use 10 more Sirens, reset if you don't get the Pink Tail). No need to steal 2000 of the things.
You can steal Ghost Hands from the Ghosts in the 3rd round of the Battle Square at the Gold Saucer before getting the Tiny Bronco, if you missed it in Midgar.
I left FF8R running overnight (you have to put the Turtapod to sleep first) and got two Ribbons :) Thanks to Fuzzfinger Gaming for the tip.
And fuzzfinger learned it from game faqs,this turtapod trick was well known back in the day..
Fishing in ff14... During 2.0 the Beast of Brewers Beacon quest was a pain... Double Mooch and weather and time requirements for the titanic sawfish. Now in 6.x and in 5.x you can use GP for mooch and increase hq chances to make it easier, but that fish was a pain in the day..
Death method is still the best imo for trap farming, Vanille with Marlboro Wand (upgraded Belladonna), and mostly using asassination and ruthless. By the time you're strong enough to kill them you won't appreciate the weapons very much. I dismantle Fang's Gae Bolg every time. You get the spear very early and can progress it more naturally and the break it down later. Pushing toward Neochu is very possible with correct accessories, party setup, and of course haste and death.

Fun fact about chests in world map in ff xii is that it is based on rng, you can find a table of it in internet. So just enter a map, find the rng and look the table. Reenter the map if the rng is not good..

How I farmed this whole entire series creating 100 percent master files growing up so far beyond me.
14 seems to like it’s specific location, time, and weather. There’s an npc that you can see in the 3 major cities that require 2am eorzia time and it to be raining. It also requires a specific quest chain to of been completed and the dungeon tied to it. It’s a 1% chance to happen and it’s only for a couple seconds from what I’ve seen, but a nice little extra they threw in back in arr.
Long Gui has a 5% drop rate for Trapezohedrons. So the drop rate is much better than Adamantoise.
This is why I'm using emulators for roms on both pc and android with built-in cheats that can save me countless hours to days of grinding Rare items on any console games
After reading your statement your image and name fit. I'm not judging you to much though. I'm way to lazy to grind for hours for something like this.
But do the emulators and roms allow you to draw 2 cards?! What do they do?!

God this reminds me of the mandatory double Mooch to progress the fishing questline past 50.
I needed like 6 months to get my tizona on FXI.
And i mean 6 months working only on that particular thing.
But damn, did it boost my blu 😂
One FF7 item that isn't mentioned here is the Holy Torch, which I put in the same category as the Ghost Hand and Vagyrisk Claw (that is, as long as you know they're there, they're easy pickings). Vagyrisk Claw doesn't have to be stolen since you can get three from the first three Fort Condor battles if you don't mind missing the "actual" treasure (nothing unique). There's no such easy option for the Earth Mallet.
But if we're not allowing any treasure to be missed and must *steal* the Vagyrisk Claw, then I'd say that's #1 with Earth Mallet being a close #2.
FFX should definitely be included in this list. The amount of insanely difficult celestial weapon challenges alone makes it a good addition. The HP break items are pretty hard to farm as well.

@@superbaas8822 Speaking of items and FFX, that game is very forgiving when it comes to missables. I can't think of any items that are particularly notorious, except Master Spheres due to their finite nature.
People tend to complain about Wings to Discovery, but those things are several orders of magnitude removed from a *real* grind.
