FF12, while being one of my fave FF games, had me scared of opening nearly every chest I came across. “Does this one have Demonsbane? Or does this one give me 1 Gil, lock me out of 20% of the game’s content and deletes Basch from the cast?”
That was the most nonsense-ass thing I had ever seen in an FF game. I couldn't believe it when I first read about that. I already wasn't really gelling with the gambit system and that random chest thing contributed to me putting the game down and never finishing it
I always hated these designs. I found them bad imo. Especially FF9's speed running one where in an RPG where I want to enjoy the story and world and such.
I remember having the strategy guide for FF12 and it actually had footnotes for each of the chests that would prevent you from getting the Zodiac Spear.
I love final fantasy 12 but some of the ways you acquire weapons were just just nonsensical. I get that in the original they wanted to sell game guilds so I will give the Zodiac Spear a pass but getting the ultimate weapon in the remake is just bad game design. I think missing an ultimate because you didn't explore enough is fair game and feels rewarding. Missing an ultimate because you opened an unmarked chess with no clear reason not to open is nonsense. Especially when one of those chests are amongst 14 other chests you can open or putting it in a chest that can randomly spawn on the airships when having certain equipment which isn't so bad but then make it invisible so you can't unless you knew it was already there. It really just takes the fun and joy out of it. Sorry about the text wall. Love almost everything else about the game
I somehow got that the Lion Heart by complete coincidence as a kid in the original version of FFVIII on the PS1. I know cuz I was far too dumb back then to have fully grasped all that.
Forcing players to play a game of chance percentages to obtain loot is one of the things I hate about FF. If I wanted to play a game of chance roulette, I'd just go to a casino to play the slots.
For the Zodiac age, the “permanent lock” of the license board has been “removed” in the latest updated version. Players can now reset license boards anytime they want when they talk to the Huntclub’s Montblanc. He has the option to reset the board, your license points are refunded and you can respec your board and jobs. The genji gear stolen from Gilgamesh are more missable gear. If you didn’t know that you have to steal repeatedly after every sword change you’d think the only items you can get are (if you steal early) a potion or (if you steal late) just one genji gear piece.
Final Fantasy XII was my first FF game, but that was something I never knew about when I played it. By the time I learned about that, I've long defeated Gilgamesh. But I was more intrigued at the time that Gilgamesh was using weapons that the previous MCs were using, despite the fact that they were counterfeits.
I didn't know Montblanc could do that until I finished hunting. That came in clutch when I hit the final stages of trial mode. Had to redo Ashe's board and that ultimately saved me against Omega and the Judges.
I am glad you mentioned how brutal us PAL region players got it with FF9, i tried so many times as a teen and just wondered if it was a cruel, mean trick and not actually possible to get Excalibur II
PAL speedrunners can at least attest to it being possible. In fact, PAL version needed roughly 10 hours real time to get it. Some of the fastest ff9 speedruns on actual consoles are around 8 hours
True, us PAL players had it rough on that one but neither element-bound weapon is worth it near end game because most enemies will have resistance to it. Steiner is better off with the ragnarok sword found in a chocobo treasure than with a holy-bound weapon that many enemies will cut the damage in half by the time he gets it.
Regarding Missing Score: The narrative reason why you'd want Barrett in your party for that sequence; This is the party finally sticking it to Shinra, so it'd make sense that Barrett, the guy who hired Cloud for the first mission, is there to see his mission through. But that's all subtext and whatnot. There is no outright hint for it. First time I missed it I reloaded my save and replayed the entire Return to Midgar sequence. 😅
This is the reason why I've personally have never missed out on getting the Missing Score, every time I've played through the game I've always had Barret in my party for the return to Midgar. Its also the same reason why I usually have Vincent as the third party member for that part as well. Personally, I think the HP Shout is arguably worse than the Missing Score since you have to go out of your way to return all the way to Shinra HQ building in order to get it.
Just discovered this channel. What great content. On another note the version of Terra’s theme in this video might be the greatest thing I’ve ever heard.
You could make a missable video for every final fantasy, I like blind playthroughs but I always ended missing something very important, materias in FF7, magicites in FF6 (and even a certain character in WoR), Guardian forces and cards in FF8, etc
To this day I make it a point to grab things like Steal, Enemy Skill, and Manipulate because while you have other chances to get them they're often much later and you only have 1-2 other opportunities before you're completely unable to access that action or spell.
Had no idea Missing Score was missable. That was literally how I beat Ruby Weapon so I’m glad I picked it up. I just played through FF12 TZA recently and the chest RNG is absolutely insane. I manipulated tf out of that RNG but even THAT is pretty complicated and takes a bunch of time and effort.
@@SilverHunterN Specifically, forcing players to play a game of chance percentages to obtain loot is one of the things I hate about FF. If I wanted to play a game of chance roulette, I'd just go to a casino to play the slots. I don't mind RNG when it comes to attack damage manipulation though since that usually plays into combat strategy rather than relying largely on luck.
Playing through FFV again has me dreading getting certain pieces of gear especially if i'm going to be getting more than one of them. Some of the drop rates and the enemies who will give you trouble just to get them is pretty brutal. Not sure if i'll actually go for the bell or not, but i'll be giving it a shot once i get to Twintania.
@@Aware_Wolf_X4 Can't miss any of those Blue Magics! Also really interesting to have a healer Blue Mage this playthrough who put out good healing early game with White Wind vs Cura/Cure 2.
The only weapon I did get on this list first time was Missing Score. In fact I even remember specifically using Cloud, Tifa, and Barret on this section of the game as it just made sense.
We used to sit down and experience games as a family (my mom and two older siblings and I), and FFXII was no exception to this. I remember my brother telling me about the Zodiac Spear and its insane method of obtaining it and how at the time he'd found out about it he had already opened one of the chests, but that there was still supposed to be a slim chance to obtain it through a one-time-only chest in the Lhusu Mines. I got so scared about opening chests and causing the RNG to delete it from the line-up in Nabudis that unless it was an OTO area like Nalbina Dungeons I literally would not open any chests for fear I'd mess up being able to get it. I even rushed Nabudis as soon as I was able to from the closest route possible in order to obtain it, and I was so excited!! I then proceeded to return to every available area with a chest connected to the ZS's RNG and opened all the other ones I had to ignore XD
Personally I prefer doing my 1st playthrough completely blind (except when looking up bosses that give me trouble) where I only use characters I like & don't bother with mechanics/minigames that I'm not interested in. If you don't know about fancy weapons, you don't stress over fancy weapons - that's what the 2nd playthrough is for xD
Might as well put the Caladbolg in FFX international! Because if you miss the Sun crest the first time around, you have to beat Dark Bahamut to get it after! Good luck with that 😂
Every once in a while I think about trying for Excalibur II, but it's always been a few years since I"ve played FFIX, and I come back to wanting to actually experience the whole game again rather than speedrun through it. So yeah, I'll probably never get that one.
I love FFIX, and often find myself replaying the game, and I will never get Excalibur 2. I just can't not enjoy all the little bits of the game to get a sword for my least favorite character
Yeah, I'm glad VII was mentioned for the ridiculous amount of missables the game has. It's really easy to lose the opportunity to get a rare weapon, scene, etc... I remember being surprised and confused when people were talking about a Rising Sun and Yuffie. Then I found out it's unique steal from item from Diamond Weapon, in the sole battle you have with it. Wild.
I remember accidentally finding the ribbon in FFVII while messing with Tonberries and it was then that it dawned on me how many steal items I probably missed. 😂
W-Item being missable is a nightmare but i THINK that might be obtainable at the dig site, not 100% sure on that though. totally didnt use that for the item duping, honest...
@@TheAuron32 Oh man, W-Item, similarly squirreled away somewhere in those tunnels during the return to Midgar. I definitely missed that one, so I was confused when I saw "W-Item" as one of the Master Command Materia's commands.
I typically had missables, as most require you to be borderline if not absolutely psychic. My favorite RPG in regards to this was Wild ARMs 1. The game told you in game, even if only a vague hint, how to find everything major. The only things missable was a summon rune, that you at least vaguely knew you could miss something in the dungeon its in. Cecilia's weapons could be missable, or rather lost, if you sold them, and for the longest time, I never realized they can be used with her force ability. I feel in FF 6, there's also at least an honorable mention for the Ultima weapon I believe in the proper translation, definitely Atma in FF 3 US, as it's in some mid game dungeon, and you can never return later. That thing is fiddly, but it can do as much devastation as Lightbringer so long as you keep your HP up, and without the GBA extra content, is very helpful for doing 8x9999 hits.
Atma weapon was what I was thinking they would choose. But then again pretty much anything you get specifically from the WoB is missable. Like the chainsaw.
Cadolbolg FFX. If you neglect to get the sun crest immediately after beating Yunalesca, then the earliest you can get it is after beating dark Bahamut (the second hardest super boss). It's enough to push Tidus out of your final party.
I didn't even know the lightbringer existed before now. Can't tell you how many times I played through different systems. I always ended up taking the magicite shard because I'd rather have a full collection of magicite than full collection of weapons
That's one of the reasons I prefer the advance/steam version, because you can steal the ragnarok sword from the final boss and keep it for the bonus dungeons, without sacrificing the magicite.
Eh I always chose the sword because I always made an effort to get the Paladin shield and learn ultima that way. Sometimes I never even traded it in because casting holy isn't always best, and flare was non elemental.
The ragnarok is useless, no matter how powerful the lightbringer might be. A piece of equipment for one character vs a win the game spell for everyone... Math is easily done.
I swear that in the version I had of FF6 for SNES, it was called Pearl Sword or something, not Lightbringer. Or was that the pearl rod? However, it was not named Lightbringer for sure.
I missed Barret's "Missing Score." I rarely use him when I played FF7, and I was so pissed knowing that it was 100% missable if he's not in the party. No clue, no story about it, no dialogue, etc. Just some ramdon ass-made rule by someone in the dev team to make that distinction. I'm still pissed until today.
Same, I always used Yuffie & RedXIII in the later stages and Vincent with his Sniper for 255 ACC Deathblow in early game, Barret was never an option for me as I never found a use for him
i understand you being upset BUT, the idea was [obviously] Barret is going to be in your party- he is fantastic// typical player dosent even have to think about grabbing Tifa to reunite the original trio for more Avalanche shenanigans in Midgar- you'd straight up do it without thinking// in later playthroughs [if you were a fan of the game, youd obviously play through again] it either wouldnt be a problem as you had decided to maroon our beloved iconic character - as in doing a challenge run or you would discover that you do truly want the big man for some old school shinra bashing// have a nice day
@@josephpowers7155 the "idea" about him being an "obvious" choice just because he is an avalanche member doesn't justify the fact the there were no insinuations whatsoever. Sure, they all came from Midgard but I love using other characters - they were there to use. Letting a significant item show up based on whether a specific character is in your party or not is just plain ridiculous.
Story wise it also makes no sense as Barret, although he hates Hojo, doesn't really have a whole lot to do with him. Cloud, Red XIII and Vincent on the other hand are brothers in arms against Hojo, there should have been something for them over there.
Yeah, I missed the "missing score" first time round, because I didn't have Barret in my crew. The game doesn't tell anyone they are meant to have Barret in their crew when returning to midgar.
In the GBA version of FFVI you can steal the Ragnarok sword from the 3 phase of the final boss and keep it for post game. So technically the GBA version of Lightbringer is not missable.
@@starman5901you can steal them. But there's no new game+ which means it's just a personal achievement and you won't be able to use it unless you throw it with shadow against Kefka lol.
I really like when a game (even a long RPG like a Final Fantasy) gives you mutually exclusive options on a playthrough: like the Mi'ihen Highroad Mystery in Final Fantasy X-2, or the sword/stone Ragnarok in FFVI. I don't mind when there's no such thing as a "perfect" game; in fact, I find it rather freeing. I know that these things really annoy completists, but there's often a middle ground. For example, in FF6, your enthusiasm for joining Banon will determine whether you get a Genji Glove or a Gauntlet. You will eventually be able to get the relic you passed up, but not until later in the game. So while it certainly makes a difference in the short term, it doesn't matter in the long term.
As someone who just finished FF5, i went out of my way to get everything. I still managed to miss some of the ash items as i didn't think those pathetic crystals were boss enemies and each of them had a rare drop for ash. Also i didn't get 8 power staffs (only 5) and 8 poison axes (also 5 obtain), as the poison axe is actually missable and isn't stated ANYWHERE. The reason i had went for 4 power staffs is cause i didn't know double wield existed and the poison axe was an easy steal but also didn't know about double wield. It took me like 250 hours to do that almost 100% run.
I can say that I got the Excalibur II. What a rush of a playthrough to make it in time. I had like an hour and a half to spare, but still felt tight haha.
I actually didn't know about Lightbringer in FFVI, but I did so happen to have the Ragnarok sword on the file from my first playthrough. So today I was able to get my hands on my first Ultimate Weapon! Thanks FF Union!
And then there is FFX, where none of the ultimate weapons are really missable and yet, I chose everytime to just complete the game without it. Even in the pandemic where I had all the time to master blitzball, dodging lightning and doing chocobo races I still said "f it!"
Honestly, the lightbringer/lumina sword for FFVI was never worth it. Magic is utterly broken in VI (for good reason, lorewise) and ultimate just wiped the floor of almost any battle you used it in (the final battle could be won in seconds if each character used ultima nonstop). The sword is nice and has excellent power, but it's really nothing compared to an aoe nonelemental magic that ignores magic defense. Unless, of course, you wanted to stray away from easy mode and not get ultima.
You could still get Ultima even without the Ragnarok magicite by either learning it from the Paladin Shield or by levelling Terra up to level 99. However, learning it through Ragnarok is still preferable though, as obtaining the Paladin Shield is a major pain in the ass and levelling up Terra requires a tedious amount of level grinding, not to mention that Terra's the only character who can use the spell if you don't use the other methods of learning it.
@@travisjordan3853 Yeah, you'd have had to get a cursed shield and level it up. And Terra learns it at 99 (not sure about the pixel remasters if they changed that or not). If you have characters that are level 99 you don't need ultima, anyway.
Esper still sucks though since it almost NEVER works when you summon it I still used the Cursed shield to learn it even WITH Terra at lv 99. yes Terra in the Pixel version still gets Ultima at lv 99 Meteor Celes at lv 99 for her.
It's not really an Ultimate Weapon, but one that haunts me is the Octagon Rod from 9, which is the only way for Vivi to learn the -ga spells. It's actually pretty straightforward to obtain: it can be bought for 4500 gil at Esto Gaza after the Desert Palace or from Daguerreo during Disc 3.
I’ve been playing FF V for the first time now and wow is there a lot of missable content, it’s going to take me a few playthrough’s to get this stuff memorized without looking at a guide
I got my hands on the Zodiac Escutcheon way back when in the original 12. Had I played way back when we first got the game, I probably would've missed like, half the weapons that could be obtained in that game. I know I accidentally missed out on the Zodiac Spear from the Necrohol chest because I didn't know about the correlation with the Phon Coast chests until it was too late, which led to sitting in the Phase 2 shaft of Henne Mines, doing the despawn exploit (the enemies there are Lv 65+ and hit like a truck), for hours, hoping for the 0.1% chance for the Zodiac Spear to be in the chest. Speaking of, they did something similar with the Zodiac Escutcheon in the Zodiac Age. It's been moved to the Hall of the Wroth God in Sochen Cave Palace (meaning you have to beat the Hell Wyrm to get it) in a chest with a 1% appearance chance. Of course, you could just do the hunting trophies mini quest in a specific manner, but good luck, because you lock yourself out of other ultimate gear that way, too. So the shield is even later game than it was in the original.
A slight correction on the lightbringer from ff6, the ragnarok sword can also be stolen from one of the enemies (I believe it is called the lady) in the penultimate stage of the final boss battle of the game, at least in the gba version of the game.
Ragnarok and Lightbringer don't count in versions past the SNES And Playstation 1 version, Just steal them and the Ultima Weapon from Girl and Sleep in Kefka's Tower FB gauntlet and defeat Kefka then load your complete save.
Yeah not gonna lie, permanent lock mechanics for weapons/gear is one of my least favorite things. I will ✨never✨ care enough about a shield to reload the game every time I open a treasure chest. I just ignore that it exists and live my best life. 🤷🏻♂️
10:53 - Except in the Game Boy Advance version, in which the Ragnarok and the Ultima Weapon can both be repeatedly stolen from enemies in the final battle just before Kefka.
I hate missable items in long games. It makes me feel I need to google a guide before even starting. If its a short game sure I can replay it but none of the final fantasy were short.
I find Genji set (helm, armor, shield and gloves) a more missable in FF12 original ver. since this is the trickiest method to acquire in the game if you're not aware on the mechanics but the title was meant for missable ultimate weapons Tbh most FF12 original ver. in-game late items was so tedious to find , very missable and require some tips and tricks to acquire ( whale whisker, zodiac spear, zodiac escutcheon, ribbon ) And many new to the game doesn't even know that starting weapons small swords ( mythril sword and mythril blade ) was rare and no other means to acquire ( except mythril sword drop from Omega mk. XII )
Cait Sith's megaphones Starlight Phone and HP Shout are equally missable both being found in Midgar. Another Ragnarok can be stolen in the final battle in the GBA and mobile version based off of it which can be farmed.
One of my favorite hobbies as a child was grind the final area of Final Fantasy Legend II for monster meat to evolve my monster party member... until a Haniwa dropped a Seven sword. Probably the craziest single weapon in any of the games, crazier than the Seitengrat... slap it on a robot and get unlimited uses.
@@mrpopo860depends on when you played it. A reset was patched in after launch. I beat the game before it did, so it was news to me too. You talk to Montblanc to do it.
FFII Arcane Labyrinth weapons are not (really) missable. If you mess up with the key terms in the dungeon (which btw is nowhere near as complicated as it's presented in the video), you can try again to obtain the weapons. Sure it's a waste of time, but better than Excalibur II or Zodiac Spear/Escutcheon and the like. The only way you can miss the weapons is by missing the one key term you can miss, but the window to get it is pretty generous.
As much as i may love FF12 TZA, those 0.1% Diamond Bracelet chests from the Cerobbi Steppe make me wonder how the heck i fitted out my whole party by going there early, maybe those aren't permanently missable, but the odds of getting anything are so low
A little disappointed that the FFT Javelin and Escutcheon (sometimes referred to with a 2) didn't make the list. Not only were these only on a single map, that map is part of the continuous optional side story that included Reis, Beowulf, and more. ON TOP OF THAT, you needed someone with Move-Find Item to get onto each of the Height 7 tiles initially occupied by Hydras. Once the Hydras were removed from the pillars, I'm pretty sure you needed a large animal friend (such as Dragon form Reis, or Construct 8) to stand next to the pillar, as well as 4 or 5 jump (likely requiring jump enhancing boots) just to get to the top of this pillar. THEN you had two options for what your Move-Find Item person actually found: Javelin 1 or 2/Escutcheon 1 or 2, however there is no number on these weapons in game, though they look slightly different. Meanwhile, you can't hurt the boss too much or the fight will end, and the boss generally hurts a lot. In the end, even with all odds in your favor, if I'm remembering my mechanics correctly, you had a 90% chance to get the desired item, but it's a LOT of effort.
The Jump Boots helped loads here, and deffo worth putting on the missable list as the only reason you'd send a character up there besides getting these is to give your Bow Users range that you don't really need. iirc the Genji Armor is also missable, I think you had to steal it from a boss, and Ramza could miss Ultima on his Squire Job as he had to be a Squire on that specific Boss Fight AND get hit by Ultima
@@TlEySnLeYlN That is all true in the PlayStation version of Tactics. The annoying thing is that in the War of the Lions versions, the Genji equipment can't be stolen from Elmdore! But as a trade-off, Ultima can be learned earlier by recruiting Luso (who originally appeared in Final Fantasy Tactics A-2 for the Nintendo DS). He can learn Ultima during the first battle with Elmdore, although Rapha can give you a Game Over by getting killed before you have a chance to take a single turn!
Sorry Slayer, but because you looked at that woman for 5 seconds two weeks ago you won't get your direct deposits from your current job. There is 0 explanation for that shit in XII working that way. It's unwanted MMO bullshit forcing its way into the game.
Actually it doesn't ONLY the Ragnarok ESPER/Paladin Shield has the Ultima spell to learn the Lightbringer/illumina just uses random holy/Pearl spells via the attack command but has NO spell to learn at all.
FFv's Tinker Bell is used by geomancers, not bards. Even though it's the strongest in power, the Rune Chime is better because it can boost all elements, except water.
@daviddalrymple2284 which is something players are inclined to do since you can not obtain Gil from battles. It's unnecessary punishing given the game's design. On my run of the game, I wouldn't sell accessories/materials unless I had a spare. I always had that habit in rpg games and that literally saved my ass from a rerun. I didn't know about the trouble that one water ring could cause until after I used a guide to finish my inventory checklist.
Classic JRPG design right there. Make unlocking cool stuff extremely obscure and convoluted so that the only way to obtain them was either the stars aligning and you get it by pure luck, or you buy the strategy guide. Alot of them were designed this way to make you buy the strategy guide for another 30 bucks 😅
I remember as a teen, back when the internet was still scarce as a desert, I gathered whatever guides and sources I could find for FF9 for the PS1. I loved the game so much that I worked so hard grinding and getting a 100% completion. As I reached above the 99:99:99 mark of the gametime, I managed to level up all my characters to 99 and I got all the items. Until I found a single guide and rumor about Excalibur 2. I was like, "wth". I recelled finding a guide where if you meet gilgamesh you'll be able to aquire the best weapon in the game. I tried and tried, but I could never find it. Years later when the internet became a good source, I saw the important note that you need to beat the game under 12 hours. Yeah... I still have my save file, but no chance I'll ahve that time and enthusiasm to work my way to a 100% :))
I love FFXII as a game, but one thing i still don't get to this day is why they did so many rare items hidden in obscure places or behind unreasonable low percentage chances, it feels like a mmo system more than anything, i get the idea of hide stuffs to make people buy guide books at the time, but idk, whenever i come back to play it again that issue always gets me when i want to finish a build or just collect for the sake of collecting.
The grinding was hideous. Not just that, you often had to complete levels with awful bonus conditions to even get a CHANCE of the necessary crafting item to drop.
@@RicochetForce you couldn't (as far as I know) even know what the bonus conditions were until the level was complete in the GC version unless you had a GBA plugged in.
@@obsidianblack7249 Yeah, the entire reason I got one of those was the damn strategy guide said the same thing. You'd basically have to run stages completely blind to what the bonus condition was without one of them. What a nakedly greedy setup from SE and Nintendo.
Hey quick question for the FFXII portions of the video. The clips of opening the chest in Barheim, are they recorded on a Backwards compatible PS3? The Qualuity is insane, and I've not even seen an upscaler doing a better job than this!
I love this attention to detail and the option to be able to collect ultra rare items. I was so disappointed with FFXVI where it felt just any other generic super linear action game.
Thank God the FF12 PS2 save could be edited to give you the Zodiac Spear. (first/last 8 bytes is a CRC32 of the data in between). I was so mad at how missable the first Zodiac Spear is....the 2nd chance is a 1:1000 chance of getting from a chest, upon zoning into a dungeon.
Not quite an ultimate weapon, but the items for breaking the HP and Damage limits on Rikku and Paine's Special Dresspheres would definitely qualify. At least X-2 has New Game+, so it's not a total loss.
im currently playing the original ff7 so ill be going after missing score but you didn't mention any from final fantasy 3,4,8,10 or 13 that being said if you have or happen to do a list of the hardest items to get in final fantasy the venus sigil for lulu's onion knight celestial weapon in ff10
Getting Excalibur II is so ridiculously hard. For instance, every guide on acquiring the Excalibur II requires you to impress all 100 nobles during the play so that you can get 10,000 Gil and the Moonstone, which are both incredibly useful and vital for the run. I’m attempting the run on my PS1 and it’s incredibly difficult for me; the closest I’ve ever got was 99 nobles.
its actually pretty painlessly easy and impossible to miss, just let the game clock go over 100 hours (1000 hours?) and it resets back to 0. you now have 12 hours to pick up Excalibur 2.
Don't feel bad, basically anyone that didn't have Barret in their party in the screen before and on that screen didn't even know it existed. It's, to date, right up there with the Zodiac Spear/Escutcheon in terms of mean developer shit in a single player RPG.
this isn''t permanently missable, but I do like how if you don't immediately go back into yunalesca's boss room you have to get through a dark aeon fight in order to get tidus's ultimate weapon.
When I found out about the ultimate weapons in FFX, I tried and succeeded in getting three of them. I them decided that no game should eat so much of my day, and I've not gotten the ultimate weapon in any final fantasy since. I don't respect that kind of game design anymore.
Yeah I’m on the same page as you, i’ve only ever at least gotten the ultimates for the main character and maybe a couple more. the extremely tedious processes to obtain ultimates don’t feel rewarding and are kinda scummy imo. like yes they shouldn’t be easy to obtain, but they also shouldn’t feel like a chore either. i can’t stand unnecessary grinding/farming or doing dumb tasks that aren’t even enjoyable now that i’m an adult

The gunblades are awesome.
I somehow got that the Lion Heart by complete coincidence as a kid in the original version of FFVIII on the PS1. I know cuz I was far too dumb back then to have fully grasped all that.
Having to hit R1 to add more damage at the right time added more fun to the battles. Made you feel more involved than just selecting an action.
FFXII is fantastic, but no game should have so many RNG based mechanics specifically designed to mess you up
RNG manipulation ;)
It was partially rectified in the Zodiac Age remaster. 😉
Forcing players to play a game of chance percentages to obtain loot is one of the things I hate about FF.
If I wanted to play a game of chance roulette, I'd just go to a casino to play the slots.
@@_Just_Another_Guy it’s only really a problem in 12. In other games, the only rng loot for the most part is drops and steals
@@Death565656 rng manipulation only works on Playstation and PC. Xbox and switch players are left to raw dog the numbers.
Does it refund espers, too, and allow other party members to unlock them?
@@LoLXaxziminraxI think it does. But it's been a while for me.

I didn't bother with Excalibur 2. I settled with Excalibur 1.
PAL speedrunners can at least attest to it being possible.
In fact, PAL version needed roughly 10 hours real time to get it. Some of the fastest ff9 speedruns on actual consoles are around 8 hours
@@BerryBabaBear funny thing is, the recent ports have a speed boost and yup, you can use it because it doesn’t effect the clock.

Regarding Missing Score:
The narrative reason why you'd want Barrett in your party for that sequence; This is the party finally sticking it to Shinra, so it'd make sense that Barrett, the guy who hired Cloud for the first mission, is there to see his mission through.
@@travisjordan3853 Too bad you can't pick up HP Shout during Disc 1 when first come across it. 😅
That too but its damage for that weapon doesn't really WORK for Cait Sith anyways.

I just played through FF12 TZA recently and the chest RNG is absolutely insane. I manipulated tf out of that RNG but even THAT is pretty complicated and takes a bunch of time and effort.
No one should miss it because everyone should be using Barret all the time!

Playing through FFV again has me dreading getting certain pieces of gear especially if i'm going to be getting more than one of them. Some of the drop rates and the enemies who will give you trouble just to get them is pretty brutal.

Ever Crisis ad during Missing Score. Perfect.
Excalibur 2 is easy to get, an unmissable item. Just max out the timer until it reverts to 00:00:00 xD
For me it’s the Seitengrat Bow from FF12 Zodiac Age (not sure if it’s present in the original). It’s an invisible chest. Plus the RNG element. Oooo
Got it on my first attempt in the Switch edition. I was lucky I was in the airship at the moment.
Small issue: the Tinker Bell is not a Bard weapon; Bards use harps and instruments. The Tinker Bell is a Geomancer weapon.
To answer the topic here's my Final Fantasy games where i've obtained all weapons for all characters : IV, VI, VII, VIII, X and XIII.
Lol I wouldn't know about the missing score being missable,I always keep Barret in my party🤣
The Tinkerbell = geomancer correction is one thing - the FFII Ultimates being for *the PSP version* is another
Thanks for the corrections, and apologies for the mistakes with the voice over! They are simple mistakes that shouldn't be there. ~Darryl

Ragnarok and Lightbringer don't count in versions past the SNES And Playstation 1 version, Just steal them and the Ultima Weapon from Girl and Sleep in Kefka's Tower FB gauntlet and defeat Kefka then load your complete save.

I find Genji set (helm, armor, shield and gloves) a more missable in FF12 original ver. since this is the trickiest method to acquire in the game if you're not aware on the mechanics but the title was meant for missable ultimate weapons
Tbh most FF12 original ver. in-game late items was so tedious to find , very missable and require some tips and tricks to acquire ( whale whisker, zodiac spear, zodiac escutcheon, ribbon )
And many new to the game doesn't even know that starting weapons small swords ( mythril sword and mythril blade ) was rare and no other means to acquire ( except mythril sword drop from Omega mk. XII )
While I hate FF12 the Genji set IS missable via Gilgamesh steals IN FF5 as well.
Cait Sith's megaphones Starlight Phone and HP Shout are equally missable both being found in Midgar.
Another Ragnarok can be stolen in the final battle in the GBA and mobile version based off of it which can be farmed.

Plus, the boss's special abilities not only hurt the player characters - but the boss itself too!
Also, I always hated these designs. I found them bad imo. Especially speed running an RPG where I want to enjoy the story and world and such.
I love FFXII as a game, but one thing i still don't get to this day is why they did so many rare items hidden in obscure places or behind unreasonable low percentage chances, it feels like a mmo system more than anything, i get the idea of hide stuffs to make people buy guide books at the time, but idk, whenever i come back to play it again that issue always gets me when i want to finish a build or just collect for the sake of collecting.
one ultimate weapon i would've been happy to see on the list would be vincent valentine's ultimate weapon in final fantasy 7 dirge of cerberus
The ultimate weapons in Crystal chronicles. So much grinding that could make an MMO player blush.
@@RicochetForce and god help you if you wanted to activate certain cutscenes to get the "memories" needed to get the true ending.
I'm sitting at 5/7 weapons obtained. Never did the FF2 new content not made it to memoria in under 12 hours.
The violin in the background music his the pitch of your voice and made this hard to hear for me.
I messed up one zone in FFX2 and permanently missed the Mascot dressphere
all of zodiac age is missable i played it but still i forget it exists lol
im currently playing the original ff7 so ill be going after missing score but you didn't mention any from final fantasy 3,4,8,10 or 13
that being said if you have or happen to do a list of the hardest items to get in final fantasy the venus sigil for lulu's onion knight celestial weapon in ff10
Half this stuff was just to convince kids back then to buy strategy guides
The seitengrat bow in ff12ZA most definitely the damn thing is invisible
But you can just hack and get it reliably
@@73willyg I can't I'm on ps5
Yeah, it's not only invisible the process to acquire it is so arcane you'd forgive folks for not realizing it exists at all.
I always wanted to see you make a video like this.
I had my old strategy guide for twelve n used it for the zodiac age, somehow got two zodiac spears
Missable content is cancer of gaming, especially if it's best weapon in the game or true final boss.
It's very easy, I've never not impressed 100 nobles?
@@mickaelfrimann okay which version then?
its actually pretty painlessly easy and impossible to miss, just let the game clock go over 100 hours (1000 hours?) and it resets back to 0. you now have 12 hours to pick up Excalibur 2.
@@samueljames576 European PAL Original on the PS1 and the one on PS4
I remember missing out on the Missing Score in my first FF7 playthrough. I didn't know why I missed it 😢
Don't feel bad, basically anyone that didn't have Barret in their party in the screen before and on that screen didn't even know it existed. It's, to date, right up there with the Zodiac Spear/Escutcheon in terms of mean developer shit in a single player RPG.
The tinker bell is for the geomancer, not the Bard right?
You can miss ultima weapon I'm both 13 and 16 if you accidently sell an old weapon needed to craft
i'm one of the victims of the zodiac spear chest trick, f.
Thank you for another awesome video!
In the zodiac version of ff12 you can reset your boards whenever you want so you cant really miss the ninja blades
Cool video! With important Info 😊
this isn''t permanently missable, but I do like how if you don't immediately go back into yunalesca's boss room you have to get through a dark aeon fight in order to get tidus's ultimate weapon.
Ff12 zodiac age isn’t missable anymore, since the switch version came out you can reset your quickening at montblac
A few years ago in an interview with Game Informer Yoshinori Kitase said he was taken by surprise the worldwide outcry over the celestial weapons sidequest. I like to think there is a gasleak in the Square building.
I must be crazy since i always get all of them every time i play this game.
@@Cloud971efore I say you're crazy...how often do you replay ffx?
Agreed. I did the FFX stuff, but that was when I was a teenager. I see that shit in a game now? I recognize that it does not respect my time and I ignore that content.
