Yeah, in July. I'm trying to practice everyday about my aural. I need to try to improve as I did really bad in it last year. Do you have any other websites or links that I could use please? Thank you! :))
Texture is like a vertical slice through the music - how many voices, how they are layered. Simplistically it can be described as "thick or thin". Think of it like describing a sandwich. Structure refers to how sections of a piece fit together/relate to each other horizontally, for example binary form is an A section and a B section.
thank you for this video! i have question, my teacher will usually ask me questions after the piece is played. but during the exam itself do i just tell the examiner about the characteristics or do i wait for the examiner to ask me questions? and if i do wait for the questions will my marks be lower than if i told before questions were asked?
Hi Chloe, thanks for your question. In this particular part of grade 8 aural, the examiner will introduce this test with something like, "Listen to this piece, then describe the features that you notice." Then after the test, should answer with no further prompting. If the examiner has to prompt you, you could lose marks.
It can be ANYTHING you notice, just that the 4 categories show more advanced listening skills. For example, the style might be "dance like", but this in turn might be because the piece is in 3 time. Don't be restricted by just these four, they are just a guide to get you looking out for certain features.
My answers for the 1st extract are different. I answered there are repeated phrases with same melody and there are phrases that have different melody. This piece has melody with left-hand-bass-accompaniment. This piece uses sustaining pedal, has wide-ranged of keyboard. The tempo is fairly fast and this piece uses dynamic starting from mp going crescendo to mf and decrescendo to mp, this crescendo and decrescendo pattern are repeated in phrases. Are my answers here irrelevant from the requirement of the answer key ???
Your answers are valid, but at Grade 8 could be in more depth, as I mentioned in the introduction, if you can say something about, character/style/period/texture/structure it would show a greater musical depth of understanding. Your answers are not irrelevant, but try to develop them more in the areas I mentioned.
I have no words for this. It's just incredible.
Glad you found it helpful.
I like the way you roll the r‘s. lol
:) But did you find the content useful?
Although this is a very hard part of aural, you make it very easy to learn! Thank you!
+Wispy Howl You're welcome. Do you have an exam soon?

I'm still having trouble to differentiate between texture and structure. How do they differ to one another ??

MusicOnline UK thanks for replying. so do i just describe the music in the 4 categories you highlighted in the video? or just describe what i can hear

This is the most difficuit part.
+叶文青 I hope you found this video useful. Don't forget, that the last question of EACH previous grade may form part of the answer in grade 8 aural.
I still find it hard 😢
