Thank you so much for all your videos, they have helped me in my whole piano journey, I hope to be a piano teacher like you one day, I will be doing my exam in 8 weeks and your videos are really helping me on the way of hopefully achieving a good mark, Thank you for the time and effort you put in your videos because they are greatly appreciated. :) from Lulu (12yo)
Really helpful thanks. I still struggle to identify V and V7. The additional exercises that I purchased are very helpful and more of them (to purchase) would be great.
+Raspberry Tiff That's good to hear. There is more information in the theory course videos as well. If you need anything clarified, don't hesitate to ask.
I wish hi had....Identified the name of the Chords ie G Major etc. As it helps to add familiarity to the sound of the Root position Chord. I Guess your bass note starts from C3. do examiners also use lower bass notes such as C2??? Posted 5th January 2018
There is no set formula what range they can use, but in general it seems unlikely they will use the extreme ends of the range so that the candidate can easily hum the root to themselves.
MusicOnline UK Thanks for information. QUICK NOTE: I just re-posted as there was a word error. After re-posting I found you had replied to this one.. the post with word error. Replied 5th January 2018 Time 10:12 hrs GMT
V7 just has a richer sound. Try listening to the examples at 5:12 in this video again and see if you can spot the difference. I agree, it is a very subtle difference.
I wish you had...ALSO Identified... the Name of the Chords with ALPHABET Labels... Example...G Major Chord. As Its useful and it helps to aid and secure familiarity to the Root position chords used. I would also like to know... if the Exam Bass Notes Extends Below C3. Ie will the muddier bass notes be used from C2.???? Many Thanks in Advanced... in Anticipation of a reply from yourselves. This video tries to accustom students to what they might get in an ABRSM exam in which the cadence is asked for WITHOUT reference to a particular key. As regards the range of Bass notes, although I cannot guarantee, in their officially published practice books, ABRSM don't use anything lower than D2. Hope that helps.
By the way, not sure if you were aware, but all my future "piano related" videos will be on my new "piano specific" channel ua-cam.com/channels/H_3J17VpbOnXYiie5MfNrg.html
You are more helpful than my actual aural teacher. Thank you so much!
+M F Thank YOU for your kind words
+MusicOnline UK Maybe show these videos to your aural teacher ;)
Haha, I might do!
It’s so much easier now. Thanks for the help!
You're welcome

Exam's tomorrow, thanks for your help!
Good luck.
This was really helpful! just one question, don't they also do V7ths in grade 7 as well?
It is possible yes
@@MusicOnlineUK I think they also have second inversion root chord.
They have those at the end of the video
I didn't understand cadences before I watched this but now I understand a little more.

Good video, but how do you tell the difference between IV-V chords and V-VI chords? thanks
I D Chord VI will always be minor in major key and vice versa. Hope this helps.
after watching this a few times i am starting to understand but what i want to know is, with the V7 chord is that only with interrupted cadences?
The dominant 7th can be used in perfect cadence also, V7 - I
MusicOnline UK ok thanks
MusicOnline UK but why not also in the imperfect cadences?
also in grade 7 is there never a vi to v cadence (6 to 5)?
The cadences will only be Perfect (V-I), Imperfect (I, II, or IV - V) or interrupted (V-VI)
MusicOnline UK ok thanks very much. in grade 7 does the II come up though?
For grade 7 The chords will be limited to the tonic, subdominant, dominant, dominant seventh or submediant (all in root position).

really helpful, thank you!!!!
You're welcome
idk why but it is so hard to identify if the imperfect cadance is I-V IV-V or II-V
Listen for the bass note.
Did grade 7 exam has II-V cadences?(imperfect)
No, for Grade 7 the chords are limited to I, IV, V, V7, VI. In grade 8 they start to introduce other chords like II
@@MusicOnlineUK thanks for help I had a Exam a few minutes ago 😁👍
From Thailand
@@skylordgamesreviewth453 How did it go?
@@MusicOnlineUK Great thankyou
This video is helpful bit how do you know the difference between Interrupted and Imperfect???
Hi Lovise, I recently did a live stream exactly on this topic of cadences maybe this will help more ua-cam.com/video/H1RRCkGoQPE/v-deo.html
thank you! It's very helpful to me.
Glad you found it so.
WHAT THEORY KNOWLEDGE? ;)
The theory knowledge you acquired, when doing Grade 5 Theory as a pre-requisite to going on to grade 6 practical :)
I still don’t get the difference between V7 and V

I don't get anything.

i don’t understand this at all :( what are we actually being asked to do?
Seems from your more recent comment you've got it now.
First view😀😀
That was quick!! Are you a music student?
*OR IV-I
To which part of the video were you referring, time stamp?
MusicOnline UK Hi, Thanks for replying but as I am doing the Grade 7 exam soon, I noticed on the website that there can also be a IV-I Cadence also
I assure you, the postal cadence (IV - I) only comes in at Grade 8. There might be a IV - V, imperfect cadence however.
You are correct, apologies. Another question, can imperfect not be II-V and VI-V also?
I-V, II-V, IV-V all are imperfect.
