I have been following your channel for a little over a year now. I love the detailed content, and you explain everything very clearly. keep up the good work :)
Thank you very much This videos helped me so much I had difficulty in recognising plagal and perfect But this method is so helpful Thank you once again May God bless you !!
You are so helpful I didn't get which cadence was which but now watching your video it has helped me to understand what the different cadences sound like. Thank you
At 5:32, I'm not able to hear the tonic. Do you have any advice in identifying the tonic note of any chord? I apologise because my theory isn't amazing; I don't know which note in the chord I should be 'following'. Many thanks.
Can you hear the bass note in the tonic triad given at 5:32 - try to hold this in your head until the end where you will hear it again. It's most helpful to follow the bass line - you might also find this video helpful ua-cam.com/video/1KKEQyAnTVs/v-deo.html
I am a piano teacher in Boulder, Colorado. I mentioned that your video is helpful to both teachers as well as students, because it is :)There are so few resources - particularly . books - -for teaching ear tests for piano examinations.
It's a skill that is developed over time, too many teachers/students leave preparation to the last minute which can give you an idea of what to expect but is not sufficient to DEVELOP skills, which is why Patrons of MusicOnline UK can get "weekly" aural training downloads.
Wow, thanks so much for the help. I am having my grade 8 exam in a week and i was having trouble identifying cadences. Thanks to this video, i can now clearly tell them apart!!! Thank you so much for the help. Is there any other tips and tricks to pass the exam? All i have done for the past few weeks is, practise practise and practice! Again, thanks so much for the helpful video.
I finished just yesterday. I think I did pretty good to be honest. I got the cadences all right thanks to you! Not sure about the other ones 🤔. Anyways I will tell you the results when I get them. Thanks for the help. I really could not have done it without you!!!👍😀🙏🙏🙏🙏
I'm having my exam few months later. After this video and some training in class , I started to be able to distinguish them. To me, a plagal cadence sounds like it's perfect and imperfect at the same time. Lol
If you prepare early, you should be fine in a few months. I would say the plagal cadence is easily recognised by having the tonic note in both the last two chords.
Trinity has different requirements at different levels, so although this video is specifically targeted at ABRSM it is also beneficial for lower grades at Trinity.
Perfect - sounds finished V-I
Imperfect - unfinished ENDS V
Interrupted - changes tonality
Plagal - weak finished (Amen) IV-I
That just about sums it up.
I feel hearing the V-VI helps as well
I'm watching this 5 hours before my grade 8 exam
Good luck - let me know how you get on.
BRUH
30 min for me
Dawid Botes 2 hours for me ahahah
Vaz123 aural part turned out fine, pretty sure I failed sight reading tho hopefully I still get a merit

I can't distinguish the last one is plague
winnie chu Try and hear the tonic note on both of the last two chords.
MusicOnline UK I don't really understand what is tonic note.
winnie chu Tonic is the keynote, which the examiner will play before the test.
MusicOnline UK what is the differences between tonic note and the key note? Thanks a lot
It is the same thing - no difference.
In trinity in the grade 5 i have all the cadences: perfect , imperfect , interrupted, plagal
Trinity has different requirements at different levels, so although this video is specifically targeted at ABRSM it is also beneficial for lower grades at Trinity.
