@@christiestephen1312I both agree and disagree with this because it all depends on the book, in the case of epic fantasy series alot of the first books sometimes take 1 or 200 pages to start getting into it, and I'll use American psycho as another example of why sometimes holding on in worth it, the first 100-150 pages of American psycho is one of the worst reading experiences I've ever had but after that you're rewarded with some of the best (admittedly also most horrendous) descriptive writing i have ever come across😂

I am tired of meh books. 3-star, filler, palate cleanser, no brain power books. Why would I read books that would go poof from my brain when I can fill it with just better books? I'm tired of people hyping up terrible books. I understand they could be getting paid for it or they have to hype up popular books without reading them just to get the views, but enough people! I DNF any book that I feel the least bit disconnected from. The end of the year videos are going to help me continue to hone in my tbr so I can read 4-5-star books. Books that blew people away during 2024. Of course, all won't be that awesome due to people's tastes differ from mine. But it's a start. It's a jumping off point. My Libby, Audible apps are ready for the recs.

A good romance is ‘Say you’ll be Mine’ by Naina Kumar, it’s a cute stand alone and it’s not too long (352 pages) and it’s very well paced imo. It also had dual pov which I usually hate but it really worked well for this book!
I rarely read romance but I really enjoyed this one because both characters have so much growth and they really make sense together as they uplift eachother. Also both are Indian so that’s cool too, it has a little bit of smut which I personally skipped bc I don’t read it but it seemed well written? It’s also fake dating which I usually hate but I took a chance on it and I loved it. It also focuses on their family lives which I felt gave it depth and the other side plots were really interesting.

If you want a good romance, I’ve got a phenomenal recommendation! I can’t remember if you’ve read this before but I recommend The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton. God it was amazing! It has badass women with personality that’s not just “girlboss”, pirates, witchcraft, and it’s set in Victorian England! If you’ve read it and I’d forgotten, oh well. But to the others in the comments, please read this. The smut isn’t bad and the entire standalone series is fairly clean. The romance actually focuses on character development which is a rare occurrence these days.

When I first took my very first online recommendation, it was the Lucy Score books. I really liked the first one, hated the second one, and I was waiting for third one to be published. I did enjoy the last one, but I was also disappointed with it. Looking back they were terrible and too long. I also my judgement wasn't the best at the time, but now I'm super judgy. Looking back I did hate how long they were, and I found the writing silly in some cases. I don't regret reading them, but if I do ever recommend them to anyone, I would suggest to read them through the library and not spend actual money on them.

My book club chose Natural Beauty by Huang based on online review and description. Generally we choose books that someone has already read, but this was an exception. I dnf it due to the over the top repulsive descriptions and events. Book club buddies said it redeemed itself but they said it should have been classified as horror, which is not something we saw in the reviews and descriptions. The only other books i dnf this year were mostly because I had too much going on and needed to move on to other books. I plan to go back to those dnfs.

I've been no stranger to dnfs, but I really went at it this year and I committed to dnfing (book like "Hooked", "Firefly Lane", "The Troop", etc); I've dnfed 11 books so far. So, all in all, my lowest ratings this year were mostly 3 stars. So, there weren't books that I HATED, but there were books that I strongly disliked; here are some:
The Dare by Harley Laroux - ⭐⭐.5/5 (was previously a 2.75/5)
The Predator by Runyx - ⭐⭐.75/5 (was previously a 3 star)
the rest were 3/5 that I felt indifferent towards, so I didn't love them, but I didn't hate them. But I will say there is an honorable mention, Magnolia Parks - ⭐⭐⭐.25/5. That book gives me a visceral reaction when I think about. The actual book itself wasn't the worst, it's the hype that gets me mad cuz it was so hyped up and it just wasn't good in my opinion. It had so much potential and it just flopped so hard (for me).

great video! let’s also normalize disliking a book and not encouraging others to refrain from purchasing. your channel is purely subjective and it’s important to always encourage followers to develop their own opinions. each book you read won’t be amazing but it’s also a safe option to discuss ways in which the writer could have done better instead of using harsh words like “terrible.” people go hours, days, weeks, months, even years pouring into their craft and as an influencer… your mission should always be to uplift others and offer constructive criticism.

I haven’t read that one but LOVED the two I have read, Part of Your World and Yours Truly, please try that trio, I feel like I have pretty high standards for romances and I loved them. I’m putting off the last because I don’t want them to be over.

When that book got thrown in the bin 🤣💀& these books truly sound terrible, even more so with 500+ pages...no way. It might be a short, but you'll have to create one when you do dnf a book hahaha. I've only read 11 books so far this year, and unfortunately my least favourite was your girl Abby with Yours Truly and your next read Black Buck 😅

the worst book I read this year was "What It Takes" by Serena Weigman, I love that woman, but god it was awful. Her team very clearly were like "you have to write a memoir right now to capitalise on the Euros win and going into the World Cup" and christ there is just nothing to it. She's a pretty private woman so there's nothing really about her actual life, so it reads like half a football manager manual, taken apart and put back together again to appear like a memoir. Slightly above that was Boy Parts by Eliza Clark (insisting, the twists did not twist), and Animal by Lisa Taddeo (couldn't put it down, it will grip you but it just wasn't enjoyable. I thought the narrator was too unreliable, and there wasn't enough mystery around the MC or character development. Plus every sentence was short which I find really hard to read).
