absolutely loved seven year slip. crazy how two people (with seemingly very similar book taste!) can have such a different read on a book. i think it was maybe the most romantic book i read all year, i felt like i was falling in love. that being said i read it a long time ago before it kinda blew up so maybe i loved it because i went in pretty blind!! heavvvvyyy agree on once upon a broken heart tho lol
I love that you had that experience with seven year slip! I think I heard everyone else talk that way about it and I really wanted that for myself as well but it just…didn’t happen. So I was a bit disappointed, lol. But I still enjoyed it!
I’ve got to be honest…. Seven year slip being on this list is criminally offensive 😂 but I’m not on the tok so I don’t get the over hyped recommendations so my expectations were met lol
People We Meet on Vacation is my favorite Emily Henry! See, for me the backstory was my favorite part. I dont think the flashbacks were to convince us of why they should be together, but rather to explain why certain things were happening in the present. I ate it up. But, hey, we're all different in what we like. Isn't that so fun? That one person can hate something, and another can love it?! Books are just so lovely. Love your videos and your whole vibe. Ive really enjoyed discovering your channel! You do such a great job!
I feel the same about People we Meet on Vacation, but my hot take is that I also didn’t really love Happy Place 😬 I thought Harriet and Wyn’s relationship was so surface level considering they’d been together for 8 years, they just seemed immature and incompatible, plus I didn’t like their friends. At this point I’m not sure if I should keep trying with Emily Henry because her books are sooooo popular but I didn’t enjoy the two that I’ve read. Am I the problem 😅
I think you read the two extreme Emily Henry books, haha. One that is not that great (in my opinion) and one that is super polarizing (I actually loved happy place but was very surprised by it.) Maybe give one of her more classic romances one more try before giving up on her altogether? :) I’d recommend Beach Read. Such a good, solid romance book and I love the characters and story.
I clicked on this video because of The Seven Year Slip. I read it this month for a book club and two other girls in the group LOVED it and then me and the other girl didn't like how clementine focused on the past iwan and not the present Iwan who's right in front of her. Plus we wished the aunts story got a little more light shed onto it.
A lot of these books are above average good, but I've never understood why people lose their minds over them. And they get upset nad take it personally when you disagree with that opinion.
I really enjoyed Fate Inked in Blood, but as a mood reader myself - yes if you’re not in the mood for it, it won’t hit. It’s a douology, the next one is out in May and I did pre-order because I enjoyed it so much. I loved the Norse inspired storyline, the magic was just cool once you are in further and learn more. The banter between the two MCs I found I was laughing out loud a few times, and the simmering female rage I hope will explode in the next book. I wasn’t annoyed with the FMC (think of the ACOTAR - why would she do such stupid things sometimes???), and she did not “need” the MMC at all to be her own person. However, it is what it is. It is a popcorn romantasy (not heavy on the smut, but there’s a bit), a little predictable follows the typical formula, but it is a fun time! It’s like any Nic Cage movie - you’re not there for the accuracy or the deep thoughts, you’re there for the excitement and fun times! Just enjoy it, but only if you are in the mood for it.
I like that you describe it as a “popcorn romantasy”! That actually makes a lot of sense. I know I’ll want to pick it up again sometime, but I might wait for book 2 to come out.
There's NO WAY. Once upon a broken heart was the best fantasy book I EVER read. I would give up my leg and arm to be able to read that book for the first time again.
SAME!! it's literally my favorite series of all time. It literally changed my life! but I also respect what other people feel. (even though I need these books to keep going in life.)
Its so sad when a book you think youll love ends up being disappointing. I try to ignore the hype of books but its so hard when people ADORE a book because I want to love it too.
It’s funny because when you started talking about Emily Henry i thought for sure it was about Happy Place being overrated. It’s funny how this works because HP was so boring and long to read for me i really didn’t get the fuss about it. I bought Funny Story at the same time and i still haven’t read it because HP was such a disappointment i don’t want to go through that kind of book again 😢
I actually finished People We Meet on Vacation today and I see a lot of your points! I haven't read any of Emily Henry's work before but I think I'm going to give her another shot! Also, your points on Once Upon a Broken Heart is completely valid, it's definitely the weakest book in the series
1000% agree with Ballad of a Broken Heart. I heard SO much hype on this I (stupidly) bought all 3 books. I couldn’t stand the main female character- super obnoxious, weak, and overall annoying. Didn’t care what happened to her, couldn’t figure out the attraction he had for her, just giving all sorts of ick. I thought perhaps the next 2 books would redeem her but it just got more boring and annoying. I must be some sort of masochist to read all 3 but the only good thing was that they all read Fast, so at least I was able to move on to something better quickly. 😅 Do yourself a huge favor and skip the next 2 books. You are not missing anything. ❤
OUABH was such a letdown for me because of the massive hype, I agree with your take on Eva, a lot of people made her out to be a strong heroine like you said but I just thought she made so many poor decisions that were, as you said, downright stupid, there were times when I thought she had figured somethings out (they would’ve been pretty obvious to the reads imo) for her to have a whole new revelation about it later when I thought we’d already established that. There were times when I kept thinking “what more could possibly happen, there doesn’t seem to be much left to do now” but there was a whole other book, and I can usually be pretty relaxed about soft world building but there were to many unexplained “magic because… magic? Things that took away suspense because in my mind I just thought “ok so now what new magic are they gonna use to fix this because there are almost no established rules to the magic system” there were things that got randomly introduced and poorly built up (mainly the tree and Apollo) that felt like plot devices, the vampires felt out of place to me and I can never take most iterations of them seriously so they didn’t really work for me. Also back to the serious hype the book had people also said it was so whimsical and imaginative but it fell flat for me and somewhat generic, and also like a whole: well actually I’m not dead because this actually happened” almost like a kid who kept changing the rules in a game to be OP. And in caraval wasn’t there a whole plot point about how immortals and such creatures didn’t want to love because it made them mortal? Did that get reconned in the last book? Maybe I misunderstood that so if anyone can explain I’d love to hear you out (that is if anyone actually reads this rambling comment) and I just thought the romance was kinda icky at times, and I really tried to love it but I just kept thinking “wow more sexual harassment” (I know I’ve done the quotations a lot but it makes sense when I type so apologies if that’s annoying), overall I did actually enjoy it somewhat but there were to many glaring issues for me to really love it, which makes me really sad because I loved the vibe to it and I love foxes and I wanted to be one of the people who loved it that much but overall I’d rate it maybe 5.5-7/10
I also DNF’ed A Fate Inked In Blood at around page 100. I literally couldn’t get into it. I picked it up because I’m trying to like fantasy romance and I love Nordic settings. It absolutely didn’t work for me.
I've been following you for a while now which makes me think that you'll like my recommendations: Transcendence by Shay Savage. Hello Stranger by Jade West A Heart of Blood and Ashes by Milla Vane. Read them and then let me know how you felt about them. I can't wait to hear your point of view. Enjoy
can someone explain the three kisses thing to me? i dont want to read once upon a broken heart but im so confused why three kisses is such a big deal to someone 😭
today i learned ewan’s name is not pronounced “owen” and im gob smacked. what kind of name is EWAN? i loved TSYS this book literally changed my brain chemistry
Okay don’t quote me I could be absolutely butchering the pronunciation. I almost didn’t include it in the list JUST cause I was so nervous about saying his name out loud lol. But I did extensive googling and that’s what I was able to find. Still could be wrong though but….welp that’s life
I read Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston because I kept seeing reviews saying it was amazing, life changing, and such a unique premise....OVER HYPED by 1000%. Yes, the premise was unique but the execution really fell flat. I didn't care about the characters, it was predictable, there were too many sterotypical characters. I bought it on sale along with the Seven Year Slip, and I don't even want to read that one now. Your review here makes me think I should just unhaul it. I just don't think I'm the target audience for this author. I read People We Meet on Vacation earlier this year. Was also let down by that one. Book Lovers was the first of hers that I read and I had a great time. But I have since read 2 more and felt less strongly about them.
I’ve heard that seven year slip is significantly better than dead romantics! I read her most recent book this year too, a novel love story and that one was way worse than the seven year slip as well. So kind of confusing.
Ok, the 7 year slip actually sounds interesting to me. Sounds like the author is playing on the idea of easy fall in love relationships that grow apart because of life and passion changes.
@ it’s okay sweetie, I actually understood your point and made me see parts of the book differently. I still love it, specially because the writing is beautiful but I kinda agree with u. Regardless, what I love the most is her relationship her aunt.
Honest question: why do you care so much about hype? Seems like half the videos you make are about hype. Who cares? It’s all about content creators looking for views…
@ I know you can. I just don’t understand why you read so many books you don’t seem to care about, just because they’re talked about on the web. Read what your think are good and interesting instead.
I DNF ninth house, & darkest part of the forest….i give them a chance trying to get to about 10-16 chapters but wasn’t getting hooked, I’ll try again another time (maybe) but I don’t want to sit through hours of the book and still be waiting to be hooked, waste of my time….currently reading what feast at night, & house of salt & sorrow…🫶🏻🤓📖🕯️☕️
I get it!! I’m still learning to be okay with DNF’s, but I’m getting better at not wasting my time. I read house of salt and sorrow a few years ago! Hope you like it.

The table setuupppp
:)
I’ve got to be honest…. Seven year slip being on this list is criminally offensive 😂 but I’m not on the tok so I don’t get the over hyped recommendations so my expectations were met lol
Saw it on the thumbnail and clicked out of shock
I enjoyed it but it was just so over hyped for me that naturally I was a bit disappointed 😭

Yes, I love hearing all the (respectful, lol) different opinions of people. So fun, even if they differ!
I feel the same way!

Yeah, I feel the same way!

I’m happy you guys like them so much! It definitely wasn’t for me but that’s okay. :)
I dnf’ed people we meet on vacation two times lol I will be seated for the movie though
Yeah, I’ll definitely be at the movie haha
I couldn’t agree with you more about all of the books you reviewed.
Its so sad when a book you think youll love ends up being disappointing. I try to ignore the hype of books but its so hard when people ADORE a book because I want to love it too.
It really is sad!
It’s funny because when you started talking about Emily Henry i thought for sure it was about Happy Place being overrated. Just pushed through “The things we leave unfinished” by Rebecca Yarros and it definitely belongs in one of these videos, imo. 😅
I’ve been seeing that one around…are people really hyping that one up too?
I actually finished People We Meet on Vacation today and I see a lot of your points! I haven't read any of Emily Henry's work before but I think I'm going to give her another shot! Also, your points on Once Upon a Broken Heart is completely valid, it's definitely the weakest book in the series
You should try some of Emily Henry’s other books! I really think the stories an characters are soooo much better than PWMOV
1000% agree with Ballad of a Broken Heart. I heard SO much hype on this I (stupidly) bought all 3 books. I couldn’t stand the main female character- super obnoxious, weak, and overall annoying. “Wow more sexual harassment” has me cackling 😂 you summed up my thoughts very well haha
Isn’t it wild how much our expectations can influence our opinions? I haven’t read any of these yet but have many on my list.
SO wild
I also DNF’ed A Fate Inked In Blood at around page 100. I literally couldn’t get into it. I picked it up because I’m trying to like fantasy romance and I love Nordic settings. It absolutely didn’t work for me.
That’s funny we lost steam around the same page!
Since you’re trying to get more into fantasy romance, what other books have you read in the genre?
I've been following you for a while now which makes me think that you'll like my recommendations:
Transcendence by Shay Savage.
Hello Stranger by Jade West
A Heart of Blood and Ashes by Milla Vane.
Read them and then let me know how you felt about them.
I can't wait to hear your point of view.
Enjoy
Thanks for the recommendations!
Ahhh, i couldn’t agree more RE once upon a broken heart
As a Romantasy and SJM fan, I agree with Fate Inked in Blood. So overhyped and underwhelming. Let’s hope book 2 gets better
Yeah I probably will wait for book 2 to come out before giving the whole series another chance
can someone explain the three kisses thing to me? i dont want to read once upon a broken heart but im so confused why three kisses is such a big deal to someone 😭
today i learned ewan’s name is not pronounced “owen” and im gob smacked. what kind of name is EWAN? i loved TSYS this book literally changed my brain chemistry

Shadow and bone was okayyyy but it wasn’t the best book. It wasn’t like 6 of crows I preferred that more. 😊
Me too!
You have such a pretty accent!
Wow thank you!
Ready
Ok, the 7 year slip actually sounds interesting to me. Sounds like the author is playing on the idea of easy fall in love relationships that grow apart because of life and passion changes.
Yeah you should give it a try! I know a lot of people loved it. I thought it was good, not amazing, but definitely enjoyable.
I’m hurt the seven year slip is here 🥹 i love you tho but ouch 🥹💗
I’m sooooorrryyyyyy 😭 I did enjoy it, I was just a bit disappointed
@ it’s okay sweetie, I actually understood your point and made me see parts of the book differently. I still love it, specially because the writing is beautiful but I kinda agree with u.
Regardless, what I love the most is her relationship her aunt.
Yes I wanted so much more time with aunt!! That was the most compelling part of the story to me I think.
Ewan is pronounced “you-win”
It’s spelled Iwan in the book, not Ewan, and I tried to look up the right pronunciation. Could be wrong, but I tried my best lol
I can tell by the covers those books are awful
That’s a hot take
I felt the EXACT same way about Emily Henry’s People We Meet On Vacation 😅 Put me in the biggest reading slump.
Ugh that’s the WORST when a book actually puts you in a slump
Honest question: why do you care so much about hype? Seems like half the videos you make are about hype. Who cares? It’s all about content creators looking for views…
It’s my channel and my videos, so I can care about whatever I want to care about and talk about it as much as I want. 😊 but thanks for your concern.
