      What the hell were they thinking😂? they would have had better luck using a road car Renault or nissan engine and boosting it slightly, then the bop compensates for the rest if they really wanted to be cheap.
      What an unserious company, in road cars, f1 and wec.

      Well, Le Mans is the only 24h race. For the rest of the WEC season, the engines are probably durable enough. It's not the first time a manufacturer performs this stunt. Build a car that's hopeless for LeMans, but has good performances for the other tracks.

      @@chiefdenis Well it hasn't had issues in the other races so far, not even at Qatar which was 10 hours. Of course entering WEC and then not having a car that can do the 24H of Le Mans is not a great thing. But otherwise the Alpine WEC entry has been really solid apart from this race. And with other tracks not having Le Mans characteristics it should be fine for the remaining 4 rounds.

    I thought it was a great race, with a lot of diversity and plenty of different kinds of challenges from the weather, other cars, accidents, mistakes and mechanical failures. It also helped that I got to sleep through the safety car and rain induced slow laps, so I saw a lot of racing and I enjoyed it very much. Some great drives from the rookies too. Cadillac were very strong but one car got taken out by a bolt backing out and puncturing the oil tank, so they will learn some lessons from that. Peugeot were reliable and looked great, but were not fast enough this time. And what happened to Kubica and the yellow Ferrari, that had been right at the front? My stream cut to an interview of a guy from Bosch talking about how reliable his hybrid systems were, and in the background you could see the HV electrics on the 83 Ferrari going up in yellow smoke and the team putting on their big rubber gloves: the thing was toast! I was impressed wth the track safety technology too, with the slow zones and the camera systems; there were some really serious high-speed crashes at the Indianapolis complex, including an upside down Aston-Martin, but there were few injuries despite the repeated batterings on the barriers. So we got to see engineering excellence, driver talent, racecraft, teamwork, pit lane wizardry and scrifice from all the teams, and from the organisers we got great guidance and managment from the director, excellent marshalling, safety and race track rectification, and a fine broadcast. And I didn't get wet.

    Oddly enough, the Alpine situation is exactly what Jaguar avoided in 1991. The new all-conquering XJR-14 was winning everything in the WSC, but they knew its Ford V8 (a de-tuned version of the F1 Benetton Ford V8) wouldn't go the distance. So they used the older, slower, more reliable XJR-12 with its V12 engine. They had a huge 200kg weight penalty for selecting the older Group C car, but they brought them home in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place.
    I don't think using highly strung engines designed for sprint races makes sense for endurance racing. The Alpine is the best sounding car in the field (unless you prefer the Cadillac), but they need a new solution for Le Mans 2025.

    The wind tunnel downforce number is a weighed average of the measured car performance over a number of roll, yaw and pitch scenarios, so yaw is taken into effect
    Ferrari might have been smarter in exploiting the fact that the measured yaw window does not overlap completely with the reality on track, ie the max measured yaw is not the max achieved yaw on track
    And there might be something to be said regarding having a fairly large operating window, meaning respecting the DF limit but making sure you achieve it over a largebody attitude scenarios

    I want to know what are your thoughts on the toyota's gr010 design. Like an updated thought, not the one from a year ago. While I'm not a ferrari hater or anything, I really thought that toyota was straight up the better team considering their tough circumstances, from their terrible qualifying(both cars didn't even make it into hyperpole) and multiple bad lucks(from driver errors[lopez spinning out] to tyre puncture for the number 7 car, to the number 51 ferrari clipping the number 8 toyota, causing them to lose precious time/positioning, to a potentially unsafe release going unpunished and so on). The rain really made the race really hard for the drivers too, but I was personally very impressed by toyota than other teams regardless of the results. I want to know your thoughts about toyota's car and their strategies(I'm a toyota fan tbh).

      @@dobermanproductions8184 I don't know about how others feel but in this video when b sport mentioned that ferrari is basically adding additional free downforce via the use of gurney flap(especially during yawing), isn't that technically cheating(?)(if it's not cheating because tbh I also think it's innovative, why aren't other teams doing it?). To me, I think the gr010 is a great car but the added weight for them sucks. Still they(toyota) really stole my heart because imagine start from 11th and 23th(last place) and ending up 5th and 2nd overall(big kudos). Furthermore, I just feel like it's kinda weight how toyota suddenly fail to develop the gr010 since they were super dominant(take last year for example, they won every freaking WEC race except le mans, they were dominating WEC 2023).

    • @petouser
      @petouser 10 днів тому +8

      I think their main issue is that their car doesn't go consistently quick at all situations. Especially in qualifying they tend to struggle a lot. The Ferrari especially seems to work at all situations perfectly. But you see that, when the Toyota is in the right window, they can be super quick. As we saw with the fastest lap that was driven by Kobayashi in his #7 Toyota. I guess their car is also less drivable compared to the Ferrari, as we saw with Pechito's many mistakes or last year's big mistake from Hirakawa. You barely see that from Ferrari. Drivability is a big factor in BoP'ed endurance racing since it makes potentially slower driver closer to the quick drivers. If you compare the fastest times from the Ferraris, they all look fairly even. If you compare that to the Toyota, or the BMW--as an example for another hard to drive car--you see that the times were widely spread.

      @@petouser Good point and analysis, but I would like to ask why is the driveability suddenly an issue now for the toyota when the car is already very well developed since 2021? And yes, I agree that driveability is very important especially for long endurance races like 24 hours of le mans(the car must be able to maintain its performance throughout the whole race,[well same goes to any type of motorsports vehicle])

      The Ferrari is more aerodinamically efficient. Since it's so efficient, the BOP limited it's power (and thus having the least power over 250 km/h, the Ferrari still was the second fastest car on the straight at Le Mans). Having less power means to use less of it, and for that, thus being the car that can embark less energy for stint, the Ferrari, at the end, did a lap more than the Toyota at every refueling.

      And Ferrari gamed the perfomance window better than the others. The car produces more downforce than it's supposed to.

      The unfavorable aerodynamic and downforce rules and the BOP makes so that you can run on relatively little budget (as with the LMdH cars) and still being competitive. With the competition between manufacturers more viewers arrived, and with the viewers, more manufacturers got interested.

When they cannot compete with you, they take you out. 5 seconds penalty for ruining the leaders race, this is race director almost colluding.
