CAR NINJA! NEVER AGAIN! Ferrari Top Replacement

- Jonny once again tackles replacing the convertible top on a Ferrari Spider. This time around it's Tyler Hoover's F355.
Although the F355 top was MUCH easier to do than Jonny's 360, it was still a complete pain.
Jonny has vowed that this was the last convertible top he's ever going to do. So don't ask! - Авто та транспорт
The mark of a true professional is that they are able to fix any problem. Johnny, a true professional.
Without swearing. 😆
Cool calm Ninja, no swearing, no fuss (on camera at least), just working your way patiently and methodically. Nice tidy job Johnny.
Excellent job, Jonny. You have the patience of a saint.
"This should be the last convertible I'm doing."
Famous last words, dude...
To soften the old glue, for anyone else doing a top since Jonny says never again, I used a hair dryer to warm it up first. Really helped soften it up to pull it apart. A heat gun is just a bit too strong for use on convertible tops.
The way I've seen it done a few times successfully was to warm it up in a paint booth and then run a thin piece of wire along the glue seam. Then just some wax and grease remover to remove the residue.
On 25/30 year old glue, heat just makes it hot. A Ferrari with a glued O.E. convertible top, I bet the new ones aren’t glued down.
I've seen the upholstery shops use steam to heat the moisture conducts better
Now, Hoovie can sell it to EuroAsian Bob.
I like Ben, he seems like such a genuinely nice guy. I'm sure his significant other would find the humour.
Never again, until the next one. You’re as much a saint as you are a Ninja.
I love you craftsmanship and patience to do a job right and not cut corners just to do the job. Yes you are being filmed but I can see you have like what you do and give your customers even "Hoovie" the best business that money can buy. I respect you my friend. Keep up the great work.
Johnny is one of the best mechanics he is a true professional. Johnny is a Car Doctor I really enjoy his channel.
Wow..great craftmanship...looks like a pile of trouble at first..but seeing the step by step and the patience made it look not so bad.
Jonny, you bring honor to your profession, your shop, and to Wichita.
I don't blame you for not wanting to deal with that again. Gotta make sure you got a "guy" for this kind of stuff. Nice of you to handle it for Hoovie. NO MORE TOPS!! Haha. Great job as always!!
Johnny you really earned your money on that job, Hoovie should pay extra.
Great work. I'm always impressed by Johnny's ability to tackle these seemingly impossible jobs.
The 5 Series GT power sunshade is an impressive video too
What a great pair of cars to have side by side❤💛
that looks sick!!!
A man who does german cars for a living is indeed familiar with pain. But to do this type of work is magic. I would be interested to know how many convertible tops Johnny has done, and did he only do this one because he has done his own car first? I cannot get enough of this channel. No BS and the work is physically done by the man himself. Others may talk the leg off a chair about a job that one of his staff has actually done, but this is watching a master at work.
I’m sure Hoovie really appreciates you for tackling this! Should have had his butt help you. 😂
Hoovie is a dew claw...
It would've taken longer.....
@@tomtheplummer7322 Hoovie uses his few claw to reach DEEP in his pocketbook for jobs like these!
@@stuffandjunkandthings364 well there is labor hour rates. 😂
NO. NO. NO. NO. NO. Hoovie would want a DEEP discount for his labor and the job would take three times as long.
Fair play to Jonny and the guys.. That's one tricky ol job. Lots of patience and concentration. Well done..
Convertible tops are definitely one of the most odd car repairs to do. Using glue, rivets, and sometimes even staples makes the job seem more like upholstering a couch than working on a car. That 355 turned out amazing though. There aren't even shops local to me that do tops because of the amount of work required.
Its amazing how many things a mechanic needs to understand and be good at. They should be paid more than surgeons
Nice to see so clean shop that Jonny can just sit on the floor with the top materials!
The talent and work ethics of a true craftsman!
Great job Jonny, methodical with no mistakes, Tyler should be very happy with that!
Thanks for posting.
I did the one on my Mondial a year or so ago and it wasn't bad. Less glue, and lots more rivets, but done in a weekend without rushing. Nice work!
I use that Weldwood in the gallon containers for gluing laminate to make countertops, vanities, and other surfaces. It's good stuff when gluing laminate to plywood.
They don’t call him the “Car Ninja” for nothing, y’know. 😜
Such patience. On the ground working. So labor intensive. But a beautiful product when finished.
"What could go wrong when you're drilling a Ferrari?" I'd say lot's of things but luckily for you this isn't the first exotic of Hoovie's that has holes drilled in it lol.
I don't know whose car that is, but that kind of work is not only time consuming but more importantly it's at artisan level, i.e. skilled and precise. Charge the guy artisan rates, Jonny, and charge him good.
The Ninja made it again, you are a Pro, congratulations for the excellent work, you read my mind at the end of the video both yellow Ferrari Brothers in the picture. Thank you from Costa Rica
That's a great effort & both ferraris look stunning at the and of the video, Remember, no pain no gain !
Top looks fantastic!
great job-incredible patience lol
I must say you did a great job with that roof. Hopefully there is a fat check on its way to you
Thank you for showing the Weldwood cement! I have a glued seam separating on my Saturn Sky top and I've been asking everyone I know what to use to repair it. If it's good enough for you to use on Ferraris, it should be more than good enough for me and my Saturn.
The last shot was almost like a car selection screen in one of the early NFS.
This video deserves so many more views. Incredible work bratish. Maladetz.
Bravo! Wow you are brave that would make me so nervous for some thing to bend or break.
This two cars were in such ratty shape and now
look fantastic!
very nice job - a friend used to be an apprentice mechanic in the 1980/90s they changed a soft top on a Ford XR3i and it took 9+ apprentices, to do it and they all worked on it at the same time - everyone had a torque wrench and each bolt had 3 settings and when one was torqued another 2 or 3 bolts had to be torqued at the same time to a different setting - it took a lot of skill and understanding to do and a lot of teamwork
I used to work with a guy who was specialize with convertible top. Man you are so patient!!!!!
It looks like a real pain but this is a beautiful car that deserves a nice top! Good job Ninja! Thanks!
Wow. Quite a job. It's the sort of job that I'd expect a higher end upholstery/convertible top shop to do. I'm surprised the Car Ninja decided to take it on. It came out great.
As always...truly amazing work buddy! That’s why they call you the Car Ninja! 👍
Tip: removing the (old)top at the glue edge; use heatgun to re-activate the glue (getting sticky but soft) and will remove easy (use gloves).
Man looks great but man the though of my finger that would hurt like hell but both cars side by side look amazing
I wonder if Ferrari convertible tops tell Jonny The Car Ninja ghost stories around the campfire. Great job Jonny!
Hey all, just as a friendly joke, let us have our roadster and convertible cars and coffee at Jonny's shop. Just to freak him out when all these convertibles show up. 😄
Sir you earned every single penny on this Job !!
Heya ,, Big trouble in Cabrio Topville.. Done a couple of Tops, they are really quite tricky to pull an stretch and tuck and it is really tough to do
You’re giving me ptsd of doing my E36 vert top. 😳
Nobody else could make fitting a new top so interesting. Good work ninja!
Absolutely EXCELLENT WORK with this extremely tedious job!!!
this is such a breath of fresh air after coming from a car wizard video where he beat a bmw with a hammer,..
it's the difference between night and day!
Great Work - You are so Gracious to do this work - when it's not your forte.. Nice.
Jonny, super, super job. It feels like never have we seen the ninja skills so out on show. Fantasic.
Enjoyed that and the end shots with both Ferrari's AWESOME!!!!
Whatever the bill, Hoovie owes you lunch.
What great workmanship by @CARNINJA - also awesome dual yellow was a good shoot. These are iconic cars imo
Good intro, a little of real life problems and wisdom.
What a great job Jonny - It looks very nice👌👍
Top turned out fantastic you done a great job
Nice one Ninj and crew. You dont let anything faze you lads.👍
Great job, beautiful cars!
Brilliant work!
Car ninja, I’m sure you know this but a lathe center hole bit works great for drilling out rivets while limiting the depth of cut.
Respect for you Jonny thanks for letting us see your pain
You can pre-oven to 400F wait few mints put car top to heat up to flex to ease installation and stretch at the same time. Trick I learned
Woah! That ending shot looooked gooood!!!!!!
Great job
Good job 🏁
My hands are cramped for ya. Nice work
Great work
Nice job. Wondering what brand the new top is because it seems to fit very nicely. I think I will tackle mine when the time comes.
I gotta say it don't look easy . Great job jonny 👏 looks amazing 👏 👌 👍
Fantastic job !
Amazing job 😎 fitting a replacement soft top is difficult I remember having to replace the one on my mg midget took ages but was well worth it .
Amazing work!
LOVED the ending - those are sweet!
Beautiful work! I would have sanded and resprayed that release handle while I had it apart...
Great job!
Awesome work Jonny
Another feather in The Car Ninjas cap add master upolsterer to his list of skills very good job a very good attitude to a difficult job
Awesome job
Great intro!
amazing effort, well done . unfortunately I'm afraid it won't be your last!
Well done the ferrari looks amazing for hoovies channel fantastic job 👏 👍.....
Impressive stuff Johnny
Good job ! 👌
Awesome job hoovie will be over the moon.
Impressive. Nice job.
The cars look great together
You got it Jonny! My old 348 had a lever to raise the rear half of the top first and was all manual. If you needed a new frame the 348 Spider top probably fits.
That looks like a very tedious job Jonny. I imagine that is very expensive when you figure how much labor is involved. Nice job!
It was easier, because you are now an experienced guy. Congrats!
Decided to take on putting a top on a 325i in my shop. Last time I’ll do that.
Looks good - what a pain!
Nice, I'm not looking forward to doing this job on my 1991 BMW 325iC, but I will figure it out. I think I'll have my F355 in GTB configuration anyway.
I really hope you charged Tyler all the money... To do this job...
After getting a quote of $3k to replace the top of my 23 year old Musta I replaced to myself with a Robbins top. It wasn't too bad and I would do it agsin. $350 and a Saturday, but I paid the extra money to have the rain rail already installed. Looks like that was worth $100.
Nice Job
