- Not all repairs have to cost a fortune, even on a super car. This 1998 Ferrari 355 came to the the CAR WIZARD 🧙♂️ with a few issues and it's leaving for under $2K. What repairs did the WIZARD do and how were they so cheap?

Stunning colour combination. It is quite refreshing to see any Ferrari in a non-red colour. Thanks for the video.
I would never buy a Rosso Corsa Ferrari.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH Every Ferrari should be red😁
@@stanleykwak717 That would be a bit boring to be honest, i love Rosso Corsa but blue Ferrari's as the 355 in this video is more beautiful in my opinion.
The white Testarossa, or the Blue 812 Novitec N- Largo
This is sacrilege.... Ferraris are supposed to be red ♥️🍒
I’m waiting for the day, when every shop has a 3-D printer, and instead of buying from Ferrari, the shop can make a part at one tenth the cost
maybe shops that make one 3D part should make 20 and make them available to others.
Ferrari will still charge you a fortune to license the part, but you'll get it at least.
@@plewis4105 If that were true the entire aftermarket parts industry wouldn't exist! As long as you don't *LABEL your part "Ferrari"* you'll be fine. Ferrari can't stop other people from making parts that fit their car.
@@ianmontgomery7534 All it takes is to someone to copy the part in CAD, make it avalible as a 3d model and then anyone could place a order for that part on a local 3d printing shop, in Nylon, with SLS tech. I do this for a living and that's far from the hardest part I've "reversed engineered". Only problem is, I'm not in the US. I would love to do that in this case, just so people could fix it, and would propaply charge a lot less than $800, but I need the broken part in hand.
That'd what I think ! But why not make those tiny /small gear sets from metal in the first place?
What an asset Daniel is. That looks like a really nice 355, too.
What a gorgeous shade of blue that really complements the car well!
It's probably because the owner takes such good care of it and keeps every maintenance in check so that all the little things don't add up quick to 10k bills 👌🏻
The owner already spent the sticker price for the regular maintenance , so this last one is only 2k :D
I'll bet you're right
And they’re deferring maintenance to pass on to the next guy.
Hey Wizard, you left us without satisfaction of listening to that engine roar, you’ve got to do a re-take I am pretty sure most of us want to hear this beast. Even though we heard others but it never gets old to hear this car as well.
Emptying the ash tray costs $2k on a Ferrari
Polishing one wheel with a special approved coating spray costs $500.
So that means you should not smoke in your Ferrari. 😆
You don’t empty the ash tray, you change the vehicle
Air freshener change.
emptying the ashtray is a engine out operation
you are so fortunate to have Daniel. He is a true asset for Omega.Very knowledeable with the ferraris
Love that tdf blue
I had my plastic actuators replaced with metal ones
Oil lines: use Aeroquip Teflon lined hose, make own lines
I hope the rebuild on that heater vent valve includes new brass gears.
"no your durmax is a moneypit, prove me wrong" Fantastic!
Guess you never made money with a truck
went immediately to look for a mid 90s ferrari when you said they’re less than a duramax. couldn’t find one for less than $90k.
Mr. Wizard, such talent you have in your shop between you and the staff! Again, I wished I lived near you. I'm near Boston, MA!
Love this color combo, so nice.
Definitely. 👍🏼
Just looked the car up and for the 98-99 models it's $105-150k. Def can't get one for $55k unless maybe it's a hooptie
This Ferrari is gorgeous, love that blue/blue. Good on the Ferrari Whisperer, DanielSon, also for his expertise.
I love the cut and shut editing, It makes me smile in a nice way. Real honest, kind of mom and pop setup vibe but obviously your way too young. Thx
Less than 2K repair? Let's see, tire plug?
Rotation......
2:15 Wizzard, you hit the nail on the head. The 2500-5500 diesel trucks are usually fairly reliable but the biggest problem that costs the most and is semi fairly problematic is the DPF system. When the particulate filter clogs up past the point of baking and cleaning it out they can cost anywhere between $10-20k to replace!!! I had a Ram 5500 work truck that i did a lot of highway driving with so it always had plenty of time to regen but the particulate filter STILL failed 2 times within 80k miles and cost a fortune to replace!
The solution is to delete all the bs emmision shit. Like 50% of diesel cars in finlnad are deleted
@@mikkejalonen9050 Agreed! Plus the emissions BS always robs hp and also fuel MPG! i know of someone who removed all of his and gained 5mpg and 150-200 hp with just a light tune.
@ 4:01 those are servo actuators similar to Thunderbird supercoupe two position shocks. Normal and firm. I have 3.
I had the same issue with my vent actuator. Simple 3D printed gears, with better plastic, solved the issue. I spent u$s 4.
Daniel-san is slowly getting comfortable in front of the camera. :)
cm x cm
Lovely machine. Respect the Cinque Valvole. Also makes me appreciate my simple Mustang of similar vintage ... most every part of the "Fox 4" is available from a handful of oem retailers.
I would have loved for you to fire it up and let us listen to the sound of it!
Nice car. Good to see the guys around the videos. Daniel i agree, Dave needs a 355
The wizard needs a 355. Thanks for making these videos. I do love watching them
I know someone with a 20 Sierra Denali that was just quoted $15,000+ at dealership to fix the engine. RIDICULOUS!!!!
good crew and glad u explained about the car ,wizard and daniel
Those are such absolutely beautiful cars, of all the posters I had in my childhood these for what I’ve always always wanted. Hopefully they won’t inflate too much by the time I can afford one but I seriously doubt that. Thanks for the videos, cheers!
That vent actuator is the perfect candidate for some 3d printing.
Happy Sunday, Wizard & Mrs Wizard & Danielson!!! 🙂
Happy Merry Christmas!!! God bless🙏🏻!!
The euro front lights are much neater than the US spec orange lights. This is a really nice F355.
Had a customer bring a 355 into the shop with non-working turn signals. We finally found ONE in Italy. $1,300. for a new switch. Too much money. So we took the non-working switch apart and found that the contacts were ruined. We then took a fishing reel apart and removed the very small bearings - they worked perfectly. And the repair was done and the customer was charged $500. Mostly for time. The reel cost $50. When we got the car on the lift, we found the heat shield was not there. He had the last work done at the Ferrari dealership, they took off the heat shield and never replaced it. Then denied that didn't take it off. Bet is they sold it. So we made him a better one than OEM and charged him $1,500. A happy customer.
I remember when my dry sump main oil line started to leak......Then it ruptured..... It was on my 911 and the line was less than $100. Could not handle $7k for oil lines. Ferrari's are one of those cars you sell before it goes out of warranty unless you have the stomach for repairs.
Daniel-san proving to be a great addition to the garage!
3d print the plastic gears, easy peasy, and better plastic as well.
Very funny Wizard, keep up with the joke, it makes that much more enjoyable experience to watch you and your wife filming it. Oh, and the rest of the guys, who probably work on the cars more than you now, since you are filming so much. Not like the Car Ninja who does like the camera too much, but I wish he did. Great Video with Daniel Son.
Wizzard! Again, for the record, it is great to see how you guys REALLY KNOW what you are doing. Hope every owner is truly thankful, when you return their vehicles. Carry on!! Super Video.
The diversity of cars that roll through this shop is amazing. Is there a brand of car the shop will not accept for repair? It would seem that once you succeed with a complex exotic, everything else is easy...no?
BMW and Audi, those are looked after by the Car Ninja
BMW he’ll take some Audis and diesels usually he doesn’t take
@@jochenstacker7448 Haha don’t even say “BMW” in his shop.
@@MasterMalrubius I think it’s absolutely insane that he’ll work on Ferraris, Bentleys etc, but won’t touch a fuckin bmw. I could kind of understand not wanting to deal with the newer ones with their proprietary nonsense, but the older ones aren’t even complicated really
@@videogamefreak221122 many of them are. their v8, v10 and v12 cars are hard to work on. see: m539 restorations
This Ferrari 355 was less than $2K to fix because the owner was smart enough to take it to your shop. Honest mechanics are hard to find.
Yep. I was thinking when they were talking about the strut adjuster being popped out of place how that would be a good honesty test for a shop.
@Car Wizard can you please ban the scumbag scammer above this comment?
Bs
2k for some adjustments, some fluid and no spare parts?
Thats a ripoff...
you can check for the sulutions online and fix it for yourself...
No spacial tools even needed...
Man, you tell us how lovely the engine sounds, and...No engine sounds!😂
Nice car! It escaped with only forking over $2,000?! Grand larceny! Thanks for another fun episode, y'all! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
My local garage had one just like that. 68k miles blue spyder. Some say, the last of the 348 spyders are really good and obvs good value
Thanks, CW. I'm looking at an '09 DB9. If this car comes my way, I'll send it to you for your review.
What a beautiful car! I just love the navy blue paint! And....don't forget....youvguys listen to your customers and help them to get their babies back on the road ,that's the best
That color looks great. The 355 is beautiful
One of these overtook me once and the scream it made! I was an instant fan!
Fantastic video, love a 355.
It might be a good idea to blank the customers vin number at 4.30
Favorite Ferraris, 355, 250 California, 288, F-40, F-50, and 550 variations. All of them make me thoughtfully stare and cause devine eargasms.
I've been in love with that Ferrari since i saw The Rock as a young teenager.
Definitely get a 355. One of my favorite Ferrari's.
Nice color, I'd have fender shields if it were mine.
good job guys !!
Beautiful car. Awesome video.
Symptom to system to component to cause. You have good techs.
I'd love to see the breakdown of the cost for the mentioned issues. I can imagine other shops would charge a hell of a lot more for this stuff but $2k still feels a bit steep for what was carried out. Is a big chunk of the 2k for diagnosis or there just a Ferrari surcharge?
Special Ferrari oil $178 per quart 🤣
The 355 is one of the most expensive Ferraris to service.
It was probably minimal work but still paid the $2k Ferrari tax
$2k for some minor check and adjustments, that is why super car are not for average people. Super car require super price tag for maintenance.
Sad not to hear the 355 engine.. Car wizard, you cannot say this without letting us hear her purr, beautiful colour… love that blue
Wizard, if the plastic gears are the issue - and servicable - you can 3D print any gear in ABS very easily. Of course anything that needs lubrication should get it as well.
Thats why they charge $500
Great colour !
The Car Wizards has the coolest walk on UA-cam! I'd love to see a continuous loop video of him just waddling around on his stubby little legs with Pantera's WALK as the background music!
Oh, you are here again. 😂 The weird walk fetish guy. 😂
we rigged up your a/c, found an oil leak, didnt find the convertable top leak (but we topped off the fluid), plugged in a connection, and adjusted your brakes. $2000.
yeah, my diesel is a money pit…..
Nice addition to the content.
My favourite all time car. I hope some day i could have or even drive one. Great unit by the way. Great video also.
I would love to have one. The 355 is my favorite of the mid engine V8 line.
Nice video as always and thanks for getting rid of the annoying watermarks
Just spent nearly 9k on the high pressure fuel pump and related repairs. 2015 Duramax
This one guy on ferrarichat said that he had his oil hoses rebuilt at a company called Pirtek. I plan to hit them up when I do my next major .
LIKED THE 78 FERRARI PROJECT
THE 82 ONE HAS FUEL INJECTION!
CARBS ARE EASIER THAN INJECTORS
There was a lady across town that has a F355 this is the car oh yes totally a sports car I would love to own the sound is like no other and I've heard Gt40s 308s Astin Martin's and the Honda beater big mufflers the ferraris and a maserati sound is the music I love to hear
l would love to hear it run.....Thanks Wizard David.......👍
I knew a guy at work who drove a Lambo. He wasn't rich, but how he explained it was "look at all these folks with RVs and boats. This car costs less than all of that, and I use it almost every day. "
gorgeous color combo
Best sounding and I would argue the best looking Ferrari of the last 30 years. So sexy. Nothing that's come afterwards can come close. I have been looking at them but I couldn't help buying an Aston DB9 in a similar deep blue color, the only other car on my bucket list that is as visually appealing as this.
Gorgeous car, beautiful sound.
2:15 "These cars are not money pits".
11:10 "$7,000 to rebuild the oil lines".
$2000 for some hydraulic oil top offs, an oil change, and snapping on an actuator
Wizard is correct on modern Diesels. When they break, they are expensive to get fixed. Parts are hard to find and they are not like the old one. Short and long blocks not available. Fuel system issues, $10,000+. Yikes.
Dang, that Charger looks HUGE sitting next to the wee Ferrari, but both, beautiful cars!!!
Respectfully, Mr. Wizard the F355 has gone up in value quite a bit since the Ferrari market exploded. An ok example starts at 125K and goes to over 300K today. Crazy to think about when they were 50K cars.
Yes YES, in another video we want to hear the "symphony" of that 355 !
What a beautfiul F355!
Thanks Wizard and Mrs. Wow an inexpensive fix for a Ferrari
The braided oil lines can be rebuilt at any shop that sells hydraulic parts for trucks and busses, for much less money. Just don't tell them it's for a Ferrari, tell them it's for "some old European piece of junk" and they won't add in the Ferrari charge.
I'm surprised the Wizard is so keen on 355s. These things are notorious for repair expense, even by Ferrari standards. It's not just the regular engine-out stuff; they have multiple engineering faults that cost thousands. I think the manifolds crack on a regular basis plus others. Just search youtube for "Ferrari 355 maintenance" or "breakdown".
I buy a 2012 458 italia, not the spider i want to see the engine. and i wouldn't buy the 355 because it uses timing belts instead of chains like the 458. the 2010.2012 458 had transmission bearing problems and a engine problem that was normally handled under warranty if the owner bother to bring it it.
Everytime my power joke or Cummins was in the shop it was at least 3 to 6k and that was in 2012 why I drive a gas 1 ton now no problems like the diesels and pulls my rv and horse trailer just fine
F355... my favorite *"modern"* Ferrari.
Engine out cam belt service is scary on these but its one of the best Ferraris in terms of looks and sound
In the game Need For Speed 3 this car was the car to drive. Other cars were faster, but could not keep the speed through the turns.
@Car Wizard Might that vent motor cross reference with an alfa romeo 164 unit or possibly a bmw of the same era?
IDK, I might have miss something on the gear for the vent, you said some people rebuild them, why couldn't someone just make the gear from a 3D printer & have the gear for just about nothing ?
Just have the labor to install it
3.5 is a small V8 engine, I had a 4.3V6 on a Chevrolet S-10
Upkeep on cars is like upkeep on a house. If you wait until your roof collapses to fix a leak instead of patching a shingle, it's going to cost a whole lot more. This is how a lot of people have major problems with cars these days. A small problem unaddressed leads to a big repair over time.
I have a gated 360 modena, best car i’ve ever owned! Get one wizard!
We have a place down here that can rebuild those lines for much less money. But they need those and time.
There is a shop out here in SoCal called the hose guy... Reach out to him. Never know.
Just the beginning of the sentence is enough: A Ferrari is living the shop, how is that possible?
It would be cool to see people 3D print and make metal castings of the prints for many different cars headlight motor gears of HVAC motor gears so they can be repaired.
When I saw the beginning and you said a Ferrari was leaving the shop for under two grand, the first thing that came to my head was, you changed the air in the tires.😂
Danielson is such a good fella! I like him. ☺👋👍
I had a similar reaction to the title and intro. I thought ”must be a valve stem or the ash tray"
