FIRE HAZARD! Fuel Pump Leak and Hydraulic Top Failure - Ferrari F430 Turd Project Kick Off
Вставка

- We start working on the Ferrari F430 Turd Project. It's probably one of the cheapest F430 Spiders in the country that we sold through our Dealership NG Supercars to our friend, Daniel. We start off diagnosing the fuel leak that was caused by a broken fuel pump. After that we diagnose the leaking hydraulic convertible top. It looks like one of the hydraulic rams is leaking pretty badly so we had to remove it and send it out to be repaired. Once we get those parts back we should be able to at least get the car on the road.

"Business on top, Party on the bottom"...CLASSIC! I honestly liked the video after Josh welcomed up with his pleasantries.
Lol yup
Just what I want as a buyer, the guy selling me the car calling it a turd. 🤣
Lol he wants us to call it the Turderia
Haha yep. Guess its better than the salesman saying the turd is a perfect diamond!
mine is endearingly called the Italian turd.
Hello Dan. I just thought I’d help you guys out with something. I’ve owned both 360 spiders and 430. And the one thing they have in common is the hydraulic fluid in the tops will leak. The part you were grinding is the piston in the top. There are three pistons in total that are on the inside of the top. There are a couple more pistons down below behind the fuel pump. But, the one thing I wanted to tell you is if you were going to rebuild one of those pistons. It’s best if you replace the three that are up underneath the top on the inside. Because, let me tell you what’s going to happen to Daniel. Assuming those pistons have never been serviced. What’s going to happen is after you rebuild just that one piston. It’s going to cause much more pressure to the other two pistons. I would put $1000 down on a bet that one of the other two pistons will leak as soon as you install the new one. Or very soon there after. So, from my experience it’s better just to replace all three. The two pistons that manage to work the levers behind the fuel pumps rarely go bad. Anyway hope this helps. Otherwise you guys are just doing the same thing again in the near future. All my best Joe
Seems entirely possible
Well, I promise you it will happen Dan. That is why I was reaching out. Only speaking from experience. I know Daniel is a personal friend of yours. It’s the same principal as you were talking about in the video. You don’t just replace one fuel pump you replace both. So why would you replace only one piston. It’s like a game of the weakest link. Once you have replaced one and it is very strong the hydraulic power in those lines is going to make the other two burst one of the time. Your friend Daniel will have to go over all of this again. It will only cost him an additional $800 to replace the other two. Just saying. It’s his decision I guess.
I was thinking the same thing while watching this; however, there is typically a reason why a ram fails and it usually has to do with a scratch in the hard chrome shaft that gets damaged from dirt, a broken spring retainer in the seal, or a tear in the seal itself. Since he seems to be on a budget, I am sure that he is willing to risk it and only do spot repairs.
Great seeing all the repairs and addons for f430. Please let show all the work you do on it, problems too. Lots of F430 owners watching! Thanks for the content Dan!
We shall
Poor Josh, you guys sure got him with that "Chicken Fingers" deal lol
Lol yup
Nice to see wrenches again! Nice job and Josh short cuts!
Thanks
I love aftermarket solutions that turn more labor/time intensive jobs into less expensive ones.
Heck yeah
Well great in depth technical explanation and securing on those parts that need to be changed required planning...Dan, good work...greeting from Malaysia
Thanks
Two of the parts I had to repair for my top were both the drivers side and passenger side hydraulic rams. They needed to be sent to a shop in Florida who refurbishes them because they are not readily available. NOTE: send BOTH to get refurbished. Even though the other one is not leaking. When only one is repaired and functions properly when reinstalled the pressure will cause the other one you didn't fix to fail. Also, go over the top thoroughly to see if there are any broken metal parts i.e. pillar that needs to be welded and repainted.
Yup there's other stuff that needs to be fixed.
@@normalguysupercar I highly stress you do the other ram and send it out as well. THIS is why I had been without my car forever. They only did one ram and then the other one failed. Quote of the day for them: "We will now do both rams moving forward with all 360/430's."
Stu!!!!!!! Were both rams removed/cut out with a dremel and were they machined smooth when returned? Is this what I have to look forward to on my 360's top in the future?
@@js3602 remove both, ship both to get refurbished and reinstall when they get back. If not, you will wish you did. Just sayin’
Hey Stu, I thought that you just used a bit of LUUUUUUUBBBBEEEE to get the top going again?!?!?!
So awesome learning from Josh! thx Dan.
I like chicken's fingers! I like pigs feet. yum.
Lol chicken fingers are awesome
chicken fingers is my 10 yo's main diet staple lol
Lol
Thanks Dan, 430 turd video is an excellent learning experience!
Lol you bet
Sweet Ferrari. Love that drop top down look. Keep it up Dan!!!
Thanks
Fantastic as always 👍
Thanks
Interesting vid, good to see Josh in action prior to the chicken fingers👍😋
Lol yup
Send him to Josh. Without a appointment.
There should be a COMEDY ROAST FOR SUPERCARS. Josh has the roastmaster job all day!!! Its almost a badge of honor to have JOSH RIP YOUR CAR A NEW ASSHOLE. hahahah
Lol
Isee a new tee "Business on top, Party on the bottom!"
Lol
I loved that dentist analogy...
"Open wide..."
"Nnngh."
"No - I meant your wallet!"
Haha accurate
There is you next big seller Josh’s FUCK YOU chicken fingers, $29.99. Lol great content love it.
Lol
Even more popular than the Dinosaur ones
very common problem, my Maserati Cambiocorsa coupe share the same part number as the Ferrari F430 fuel pump, both were leaking badly.
Yeah the high pressure side cracks
Great video as always... I would have spent the money and replaced both fuel pumps.
Yeah
Hey Dan
Love your videos! Keep 'em coming.
I have a F430 and a Gallardo. Love my garage queens....
You seem very knowledgeable about these cars, so I have a question you might be able to answer.
My F430 makes a rattling noise when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, but it is not a gear issue as I had the gearbox oil checked and tere are no metal shavings that would tell me the gears are jamming against each other.
This happens only when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, no other shifts.
I can send you a video of the noise, but am wondering if you could think of a reason?
Thanks
David
I wouldn't know without hearing it and even then I may not know.
Love to watch the discussion with Josh over chicken fingers
Haha yes
I was waiting for that too.
Don't forget to install the activation fire ball for extra protection.😜
Yup
"Glorious Turd" = GT 😁
I like this
Love the F430, if only it had the gearbox of the 458!
Yeah
Happened to mine. Just replace both. Considering the car’s age, replacing one would be kicking the can down the road.
They're pretty simple to replace
I love Josh he's such a cranky bastard 😂 Does he have an exotic and if so which one?
I drive an Alfa Giulia daily and have a blown up 355 Convertible that needs to get running this year.
@@exoticpower8073 Nice, and I look forward to seeing that 355 its my favorite Ferrari
Lol
I bet Josh os using the same company that repairs those hydraulic cylinders and lines for convertibles as the The Wizard, Tyler Hoover mechanic uses as they are from around there.
Probably
Probably. I only watch my UA-cams
All and all winner winner chicken dinner !😜😂👍🏻
Lol yup
@@normalguysupercar 😂
Why are you scared of a fire? Seems like nothing a good [ACTIVATION PROCESS] can’t take care of!
Pretty neat that you can send off the hydraulic pump part to get fixed, typical that of course Ferrari recommends that you replace the whole damn thing... Once again, Josh saves the day, and your wallet! Btw- love your shirt Dan. I need to get my hubbie one. He's the Douche Bag extraordinaire. 🙂
Lol thank you! We sell those shirts. 😉🤌
Hey Dan, great content. I noticed in the video when you put the new ram in that the old dremel one is sitting on the table. Did you do the option that they send out a new one and you ship your back? Or can you buy new ones with the screw type? Cheers Colin
We did the option where you get a core deposit refund shipping back the old ones.
thanks 👍
Chicken Fingers, YES!!!
Heck yeah
Can you link the shop that Remanufactures that piston for the top?
Top hydraulics I think
Maybe I missed it (probably), but what company did you ship the hydraulic cylinders to get rebuilt? Since most of the top cylinders have lines you can't unbolt, removing metal to release the lines at the cylinder itself with the rebuild company installing line hold down plates is a good option. Thanks
It's called top hydraulics
I checked their website, I didn't find that option. I did note they have the same procedure as Cabriolet Hydraulics of using line couplers to link up cut lines. To add to the discussion, the reason that specific hydraulic piston leaks is due to the fact it has the most exposure to the sun (it always seems to be the first to leak). Also should rebuild the tandem pistons in pairs, as the newly rebuilt cylinder is now more powerful and it may cause the frame to get out of kilter causing expensive damage. Thanks for the reply and I'll shut up.
Hi Dan have a question for you if I can get an allocation for new hurican technica at sticker is there any room for a profit?
I don't know. It's hard to predict the future
Let’s see an “Activation”!
Lol
I don't like the Hydraulics in the F430 top, is this typical for Ferrari? So much to go wrong and then fluid goes everywhere if it does.
I think many tops are hydraulic
I’m so disappointed. It was it worth taking a quack count. 😢
Lol yeah not many ducks in the garage today
Is all the EGO stuff for the new house?
Yup
This video was sponsored by Raising Cain.
Lol
Lol. Dan we must take age into consideration here. Like the Ferrari we will get to an age where we are leaking fluids also. We must just accept it and say "thank you" ours is not flammable. Do you have treatments for athletes seat? 🤣🤣
Ha, gonna need some anti fungal leather treatment
