Just followed this procedure but didn't touch the clips, just unplugged the MAF sensor and loosened the clamp and the whole box came out in one piece. Thanks for showing how to proceed.

Thank you for this video. Keep them coming. Videos are rare for the F25 with the N52 engine.
Although I’m not a fan of the K&N filter’s since the MAF sensors do not like oil and they are more expensive than the filters.

Thanks for watching! - I've found it rare too, much of what I find with current X3 models is the 4-cylinder which is hated by everyone. I just rolled 100,000 miles and no issues or pryamid of lights on the dash!

Is it better not to unclip the box and take it out?

2014 x3 close to ours but not exactly..that overflow hose is easy to damage ..i know .. your alternator is much more accessible for sure

There are sure some variations, especially if you're between the 4 and 6 cylinder. Both of mine X3s were very similar thankfully. Our current X5 is pretty different, but also, it's the diesel flavor!

Just to make clear, this is for X3 F25 xDrive28i only. The X3 F25 xDrive35i has different type.

Awesome video and very detailed. Thx
Question: What is the best oil to use in my 2012 BMW X3 28I. In my last oil change I used OW-30. & how many miles can I go between oil changes?
    Thanks

I would refer to your owners manual for those specifics. Personally I change everything here on the 5k mile marker.. yes, at least for the BMW that's overkill, but with 5 cars it just makes everything dead simple. I do use the Castrol Euro synthetic oil for my X3.

For this engine 0W-30, 0W-40, 5W-30, 5W-40 are all listed in owner’s manual.

Do you know where the MAP sensor is? I have a engine code to replace the MAP but unsure where it is

It should be on the air intake or air box depending on your engine. I don't have the X3 anymore, so I can't confirm from my model.

I have been using the MANN filters branded with BMW, here's where I've ordered them from on Amazon. amzn.to/2RLtuX4

I have the same 2012 X3 28i 6cyl n52t. On mine, it appears there is a bolt on the right side of the airbox that has a rubber nut of some sort that also must be removed? Apparently yours is missing that? I can see the bolt stud inside your wheel well but you didn't indicate you had to remove the nut. I'm trying to figure how to remove that without breaking it. Assuming it needs to be removed.

nevermind. That's just a cover piece of rubber, not a bolt. I lifted the whole air box out just like your example but I didn't undo the clips. Thanks for the video!

Glad it helped. Thanks for the comment! I've heard you can remove it without undoing the clips.

Just another reason I hate my X3.

OH? heh! What other issues have you had? I've been 3/3 for trouble free ownership so far.

Great video btw. It was the first to come up when I searched this subject. We bought our X3 as a certified used car with the 3 year maintenance which is expired, so I just started doing the maintenance myself. You shouldn't have to remove the entire airbox to install the filter. Other reasons: BMW doesn't publish their oil capacities in the Owner's manual, unintuitive, cumbersome controls. $1500-2000 in tires. Poor residual value. I'd like to trade it, but the wife loves it!

Nice to know I'm showing up for these! My DIY repairs seem to do better than my restorations. HAH. This one came from a salvage auction, and I rebuilt it. I know that with each evolution that I've owned (2007, 2012, 2015 the controls get more user-friendly an intuitive, or maybe I'm just used to them now.) - Currently, we've got a 2015 X5d and you'll have to pry that away from my cold, dead hands. I love it. Again, salvage auction. - I did since find how to replace the filter without removing the box, at the time, it just wasn't coming for me, and often some of these shorter videos I created between getting off work, and picking up our kids from daycare. #dadlife.

I know these take money time and effort to make and will certainly save me the same since I will follow it to do this myself. Thank you!
