    I have a one-owner-before-me, 2017 BMW X3 X-Drive 280i. This is the finest car I've ever owned. It had 74K or so when I bought it in August of 2023, and I still have it in May of 2024. The oil is ready to be changed, and I just might do it myself this time. Thanks to your video, this will be straightforward. Thanks savethe8! This video of yours is a great reference! 🙂

    Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Followed your directions and hints to a tee. Had no problem except getting the oil filter cap off - TOO tight for this little lady. Nothing that batting my baby blues didn't take care of down at a local JiffyLube. Once back home and back up on my ramps, took me only 20 mins from start to finish. :) . 2013 X3 28i

    A helpful description however this video contains a frequently stated error when referring to bolt sizes. A bolt's size is not determined by the width of the hex head but by the diameter of the thread. It would be more appropriate to cite the use of a specific socket size to remove a particular bolt rather than saying the bolt "size" is equivalent to the width of the hex head. This isn't meant as a criticism but merely a clarification of proper terminology.

    Just as reference for everyone who believes german vehicles maintenance scheduling. I have a customer who has an x3 woth the 2L turbo motor. She goes the recommended 20,000km between oil changes. The car only has 40,000km on it, every time she comes in it only has 2 litres of oil left in it. They want your car to die after the warranty ends to either sell you a motor or sell you an 18,000 engine

    • @davidturk6301
      @davidturk6301 3 роки тому

      FYI, BMW changed the oil service intervals back in 2014. They used to say 15,000 miles between changes, but backed it down to 10,000 miles, I use 8,000 miles between changes.

    I've noticed whenever the guy at any garage does my oil he never lets all the oil drain out. Obviously he doesn't want to wait for it. There's always a spaghetti sized stream left coming out and they just plug it up and that's that. My oil's never that dirty, 2 k btw changes in 12 months. It just seems wrong to do it that way however. Is it a big deal?

    Actually you did it wrong, you have to loosen the oil filter cap first and lift it off and tilt it in the oil filter housing. Also you remove the fill cap to let the oil
    Drain faster. You also installed the cap incorrectly, you torque to 25nm, loosen 180 degrees then back down to 25nm then 5nm.

    Not sure I understand why this guy goes over the published torque spec. of the engines oil drain plug and oil filter housing.

      Torque values are very important in any piece of mechanical equipment.Torque values are very important. If one over tighten a bolt, threads will give in, and expensive repair will be in order. If not tighten properly, leaks will happen. Kind regards.
