That’s how I started ,my Dad had me rolling mortar for a whole day . Then building little corners six courses high trying to keep gauge ,level and plumb ,in stretcher ,Flemish and English bond He could build a corner even with jam jar glasses on without a level and keep it to gauge six courses .Try it not so easy . He used to place level and give it a nudge and it was the bollocks . Was a great Bricklayer as was my grandfather.I’ve inherited some of his skill but can’t build a corner without having a level glued to my side . Brought back memories watching this lad ,great job stick at it been good to me for 35 years now .
Thanks for that Paul, glad it brought back good memories, that starting bit is the hardest once you can roll the muck you are away, that’s how the old boy who taught me , started me, many thanks for watching 👍👍
Rocky that’s so true, you sound like you have been there, it’s so awkward when you start, I’m just trying to get him the feel of the trowel, big thanks for watching 👍👍
awesome video really helps a fellow out! This inspires me to learn more, is there a certain rule for gauging bricks to achieve you're desired Hight? Do you go off the top of a window or door frame so you have a level coarse to put you're angle iron across? Thanks a bunch keep up the awesome videos .
Alex, the gauge for modern bricks is 75mm this is a brick and mortar bed, old gauge is 3 inches again this is brick and bed, many thanks for watching 👍👍😊
Seems to me he would have been better laying his first brick on the left hand side of the run, so he could lay his next bed behind the brick. He seems to be standing in his own way or he`s backhanded the way you`re getting him to lay. I think he`s a natural left to right runner, it`s how I lay best.
Mike I think it’s one of those things that you have to find for yourself, what works best for each person, it doesn’t help he doesn’t get any site time but I think we can shape him up, thanks for watching 👍👍
@@BuildingwithBudd Yes I agree there, I`ve always been back handed or caggy handed. If you watch back when you`re showing him, you scrape the muck back into the pile with your back of the trowel and then you lay your bed with a quick wrist flick. He`s obviously got to learn both ways but I can say I had the same problem because I`m backhanded. Any how I really enjoy your shows, keep `em coming....
The only way to teach is to be patient and make apprentices confident👍

Why is your trowel dirty before you even started?
Two swipes for a perp as you call then.
