    Jeff, I too have a Mexicola Grande that I noticed today also in in flowering stage. I found it odd but did not pay much attention to it. After viewing your video I remembered same thing with me in Gilroy. All my other 20 plus varieties do not exhibit any flowering. I always enjoy watching your informative videos. Take care!!

    Thanks so much for your post. How do you keep your trees so healthy?? I live in southern california and I've lost about 4 trees through trial and error of proper soil and too much watering. I think I finally got the soil right. I had to bring in palm tree and cactus type soil because my property is red clay! I've covered my trees in the cold winter and protect it from the hot sun with shade. I've fertilized in January and I have a water filter on my garden hose. I water every 3-4 days. The leaf tips still turn brown and the some of the new growth on some of the trees turn brown. This is so frustrating!. I've been trying with avocado trees for 4 years now and haven't gotten any fruit to maturity. Some trees don't flower and some flowering falls off. Any suggestions? 😫

      We planted ours on raised beds. This method prevents root rot on poor drained soil.

    Jeff. I have a mature Haas avacado tree in central Florida. Last year I got 80 avacodos now only 30 this year, and they are smaller this time.
    I cannot figure out why it's having black branches that end up dying. Is this a fungus issue ? Please advise.

    My baby avocado tree has dark veins and leaves going lighter. I think this is an iron deficiency so can I add a bit of fertilizer containing more iron in it? Or something like worm castings?

    Hi, wonder if you could help me increase my yield on my one tree. I have a dwarf avocado tree probably 15 years old. Each year I get tons of leaves and a lot of shoots that end up falling off the tree. I probably get 10 edible avocados a year from the tree. How can I prevent those shoots from falling off the tree and becoming edible fruit? Any suggestions?

      @TropicalGardenGuy  4 місяці тому +1

    • @dingili

      @TropicalGardenGuy, as your subscriber, please allow me to respond. Please pardon me as I will use other channel links for reference. I believe as farmers, we post to share our success stories, experiences as well as help each other.
      It's going to be quite a read due to the steps.
      I am responding to this based on our Hass Avocado farming practice in Kenya, we also do organic farming.
      (I). Lack of fruits could be as a result of not feeding your tree well through fertilizing, which it will naturally drop the excess fruits and keep what it can feed.
      (II). Lack of proper pollination also causes flower abortion. Check if you have any pollinators, i.e. bees or other insect pollinators during flowering.
      I will also share some informative links for guidance.
      Please see below;
      1). FERTILIZE your tree twice a year, before the onset of rain. This helps the tree to have enough food for fruiting.
      Use one wheelbarrow of well composted animal manure. Dig a trench around the tree, slightly after where the canopy of your tree ends to avoid interfering with the roots (Avocado feeder roots grow shallowly and laterally. Where your tree branches stretches laterally is where the roots reach). Pour the manure and cover again with the soil from the trench.
      Checkout this young farmer from Kenya.
      (Disclaimer: I am not affiliated to him, I am just sharing to help you. We have our own channel but not yet posted the feeding and pruning videos).
      ua-cam.com/video/Up2AUzPk7M8/v-deo.htmlsi=cIBRv54kKQt3_sBd
      If you DO NOT have access to organic fertilizer like what The TropicalGardenGuy is using or animal manure, please check SleepyLizard video, it will also give you more tips;
      ua-cam.com/video/QC6TxicR4p0/v-deo.htmlsi=X_IZ4AjN6W-cE4Yh
      (Disclaimer: I am not affiliated to him, I am just sharing to help you).
      If you use SleepyLizard method of top dressing, make sure the rains are near or you can water for the fertilizer to dissolve so it can penetrate into to the ground.
      2). FLOWERING: Use well balanced Boron foliar once you see the flower buds forming and spray again when the tiny fruits set (check your local Agrovets for organic or inorganic foliar , whichever you prefer).
      3). PRUNING: It's very crucial, a bushy tree will NOT give you many fruits, so make sure you prune your avocado tree to promote air circulation and sunlight penetration.
      Pruning also reduces the risk of pests and diseases.
      Please watch the same young farmer UA-cam link;
      ua-cam.com/video/CbhOAljB69o/v-deo.htmlsi=YrsIZMVxTivXDYa9. He demonstrates on how to prune.
      (Disclaimer: No affiliation to the owner)
      For thick branches use a saw to cut, about an inch away from the holding branch or stalk then paint the cut part with white wall paint (only the water based) to prevent infection. No need to paint the small you cut shoots.
      NB: Use pruning shears for young branches and a saw for thick branches.
      Don't be afraid to cut off as many branches as you can. There countless videos on UA-cam to help you.
      ua-cam.com/video/SZGMiuSv_KY/v-deo.htmlsi=5viBqQfjDPMCGpwx
      (Disclaimer: No affiliation to the owner)
      LAST SOLUTION;
      If these don't give you more fruits after flowering, consider cutting the the tree about three feet from the ground, and graft with 3-4 scions from a mature avocado variety of your choice.
      The Scion should be from a a mature and good producing Avocado tree so your tree can have the same characteristics from the scion mother, then follow the feeding program above.
      Your tree will start fruiting within 2 years. (before cutting, remember to mark the canopy area to avoid interfering with the roots when fertilizing)
      Hope this will help.
      Please let us know the outcome after you next flowering, that is if you follow the care guide.
      Good luck!
      Please check my channel and subscribe, needs a lot of improvement though, 😊just a beginner on UA-cam!

    I always have good luck with my avocado plants. They have grown in a large pot only since living in Michigan. I took 4 seeds and just stuck them in a pot and they are growing like crazy. I now need to know if I have to separate them or can I keep 4 plants in a much bigger pot? I keep it outside all summer and in the fall and winter, it's in a very sunny window. Can I use a simple homemade fertilizer like Epsom salt and coffee grounds? My plant I had in the past grew very tall in a pot but never had one avocado ever. I believe I gave it to a friend when I moved. Can anyone help with my questions please? Thank you

    Seems to me you’re fertilizing the grass too. Shouldn’t the block walled area been larger so the drip line is within the blocked area? But the tree sure looks good. Thanks for pointing out you have multiple varieties grafted on.

      I do fertilize the lawn, but I use a different fert directly on tree.
      Yes it would be ideal to have a larger raised area but this works fine for my yard

      Hard to identify without seeing it fruit etc.
      But you can take a leaf and crush it.
      If it smells like licorice, it’s a Mexican variety
