😟😭. 🐭🦶
Shawn, have you considered placing mirrors in the areas where you leave the dead mice for wild animals to eat them, to see how the wildlife would react to seeing their own reflection?
If I remember rightly, you once illustrated that the addition of a fairly thin layer of sawdust in the bottom of the bucket was sufficient to prevent most mice jumping out. The sawdust prevents them getting a good launch and they wind up falling short.
If you have an old 5gal, cut the top several inches off the bucket, install a dizzy dunker or similar and use it as a spacer on top of another 5gal bucket.
Unnecessary for a lot of people but could be significantly useful in a lot of other circumstances where you don’t want to buy a 7 gal.
Sorry to piggyback off this comment, just seemed a suitable place to put useful info
A thin layer of oil also really wrecks their mouse parkour.
Or water. Or even better, soapy water
Soft/squishy/water/moving/slippery surfaces always make jumping difficult. Its abt inertia & the absence of sufficient friction.
About 4 inchs of water stop them jumping
Yay! I've escaped! Is that peanut butter? Oh no! (leap) Yay! I've escaped! Is that peanut butter?...
Hook up that paddle wheel to a generator and get some power. LOL.
That powered by hamsters?
No, mice!
that is a factor, i mean they dont know what it is or even see it since its all smell they understand
LOL. That part of the video cracked me up....
@@timgersh6787 funny that they aren't even scared, just go right back in!
@@volvo09 yea their brains are to simple for fear to be a thing also they are almost blind. Humans evolved color vision to decide what leaves and berries are better to expend enegry to digest
Love these mouse "endurance" tests.
That's a huge jump, like a human jumping over a 2 or more story house!
p.s. next time, raise the floor. save the bucket
My thoughts also
@@frikkiesmit327Yeah, I was thinking - just add blocks of wood to raise the floor.
Wood would have a better grip, so I think this method was a little bit more valid.
Yeah, but that would be the easy way.
That cute mouse that broke into the house was trying to join Shawn's team of famous pet mice. After all, that's the safest place for a mouse on that property.
I'm ready for Mouse Olympics
4:22 That is one freaky looking mouse! What IS that thing??
Hairless mouse.
He has various different breeds as pets, they make random showings.
Getting ready to poop mouse, by the looks of it.
It's a mouse with no clothes on. Probably just got out of the shower.
@@thedevilinthecircuit1414
I think it showed up for work naked, it's probably so embarrassed!
Its a doctor evil mouse
Shawn's mouse olympics
It all depends on the species of mouse.
Mice in Australia would jump out with ease.
I know because I have keeped so many field mice as pets.
They can jump almost 3 feet and can get through a hole as wide as your little finger.
They are capable of dislocating every bone in there body. That gives them the ability to go anywhere they want.
*keepeded
Last week he had a video on the hole sizes they could get through
Not just the speices the more athletic mouse junp higher
That was very interesting. Because I've known European field mice to be able to jump out of a metal grain store that was more than 36" high, vertical, nothing observable to aid them.
Maybe the plastic didn't have enough purchase.
Same here, I witnessed wild Canadians mouse jump more than 36 inches. One jump to get on to the cabin kitchen counter and a second immediate jump to get on top the fridge.
Purchase: (for those wondering! very cool to learn this!)
a hold or position on something for applying power advantageously, or the advantage gained by such application.
"the horse's hooves fought for purchase on the slippery pavement"
@@stirfryjedi Excellent! Being a teacher, I am delighted that I have helped to extend your knowledge.
@marc-andrefortin3189 that's insane. Okay. Now i believe that the mice in my office might be able to access my desk drawers 😢
I'm really enjoying the mouse experiment videos.
Please please please bring back the lovely little tune at the end🙏👍😎
Even if its 17 inches, I think if you add a piece of rubber molding around the edge it would prevent them from grabbing the edge to climb out. Or put slight bit of peanut oil at the bottom so they can't get any traction. Good video.
or about 6" of water in the bucket.
I love the idea here but I think it's missing some key elements. For instance if the side they were scaling was wood, or concrete they may be able to jump/scale the side easier and thus be able to jump higher on those substances
i see the beginnings of a mouse obstacle course
Now I know why I wasn't live catching mice!
But I have found trashcans with holes chewed through the bottoms.
And now for a little Modest Mouse doing a cover of Van Halen',s Jump.📻🎸🎹🎶🎵
thanks Shawn excellent video ! I loved also y our exploration survival videos keep it brother
*mouse jumps out, runs right back to the dizzy dunker and gets re-dunked* IQ level 10000 🤣
Big brain meme 😂
New series idea: Mouse Track & Field trials
Excellent test by the way
I actually saw a rat on the wall few minutes back. Which reminded me of this channel
That last hairless mouse was about 2 seconds from pooping on Shawn.
These videos are great!
It's like a middle school science experiment LOL
VERY INTRESTING LOVE YOUR VIDEO !
I'm liking your scientific approach to accumulate useful statistics!
Good work Crawdaddy.
their are some major factors to how a mouse does mice things
Nice to see you have your very multiverse version of Mr. Bigglesworth.
Oh man, the mice in your neighborhood have seen the wildest experience of their life ..going through mazes, holes and jumping contests
Interesting! I know rhat I've seen some insane jumps in the past and you've mentioned multiple times that you use water for that very reason.
"Natural" selection super mice make them athletic as possible
Nice mini mole you got there. =)
Imagine being able to jump 16 times your body height or whatever the f*** it is.. those are some athletic little guys
With tiny legs too!!! That's insane.
Thank you again
I like when they get out and then fall back in XD
Hi Shawn, great video, I didn't know they could jump that high! I've wanted to ask, unrelated question but do you prefer any particular peanut butter brand for attracting mice or will any brand do?
I feel sorry for the mouse that winds up in Shawn's house.
is that a bald mouse in your pocket or you just happy to see me....
Lol, naughty boy!
If the bottom of the bucket wasn't slippery I bet they could jump higher.
I love you Shawn!
WTH kinda mouse or alien was Shawn holding ?
It looked like a "Hairless mouse" ?
Like those rats on the movie "I am legend " with Will "the smacker" Smith.
1:30 look at those two lil homies down there, so cute :3
This was an interesting video. I'm always finding dead mice in 5 gallon buckets in my shed. I wonder why the mice in my world can't get out.
Good info
It’s interesting that after escaping, some of the mice go back for another ride on the wheel. I guess they’re enjoying themselves.
I got to say it, the thumbnail for this video made me laugh so hard 🤣😂
I find that hairless mouse both funny looking and adorable, its got them big ol eyes but at the same time looking like a nut sack.
Since you have at least one book of old mouse traps patents, I think that these experiments are recorded since those times, it could be interesting to compare the results.
Looks like a game of whack-a-mouse could be had.
I'm in!
I built a 'walk the plank' trap after watching your videos, but the very tall buckets you have in the US are not common here in the UK, so I used a normal bucket, about 14" high. Then watched mice jump out of it, seemingly easily. The bucket was nowhere near tall enough
More quality science from Shawn. In addition, he has found a way to screen applicants for the Mouse Olympic Team! 😂
4:00 Who else experienced an episode of eldritch dread?
Me
I was about to ask what that abomination was
1/2 inch of water at the bottom should stop them as well. Won't kill them, but then you have to worry about the ones that jump on other mice to get out.
Challenge: set up a trap bucket at a busy location and slowly increase the height.
Optional: supply high protein feed in the buckets, regularly remove the stragglers and use rapid evolutionary pressure to create roided up super mice
Depends how much voltage you put across them
good job
Dude they're not jumping that height. They're clearly using the wall as somewhat of a ramp.
Appreciate your videos... You could have added spacers in the bucket.
could have just raised the floor by filing the container with gravel
That's why you put 6" of water in the bucket.
Really enjoying these fundamental rodent prevention videos!
How about having mice olympic games like how far/high/fast etc. ? Or having an obstacle course with different tasks?
would love to see if mint toothpaste is a deterrent in one of your videos
Same here..... mouse jumped out of my bucket
It's clear that the mice could jump high enough w/ the 1st cutaway; they just weren't close enough to the cut edges to grab onto them. The one @ 2:20 would've made it if he was facing the right way.
I think how high depending on the footing would be worth testing as well (thinking of that video you did with a simple bowl of peanut oil)
3:57 well this seems like it basically climbed up on the wall, could making the walls slippery lead to them being trapped at 15 inches?
did anyone notice the one he was holding was completely hairless bc i think he wanted to be bald
Is that a hair less mouse ? I rewind but I didn't hear or I miss it altogether ? Is it a just a mouse with out Hair ? It isn't a new kind of mouse is it ?
Coud have put some red ink at the bottom so that its easy to spot how high they can jump
"Cute" lol
.....not if there's some water
Not if you add water
Needs a gallon of water
Why not fill it instead of cutinting it?
How big is a nickel?
How do you still have mice?
Just pour water into the bucket and the mouse will not be able to push off from the bottom as high.
Was your pet mouse at the end a hairless mouse?
Just keep putting boards inside the container instead of shortening the container.
If you teach them consecutive wall jumps, i bet they could go much higher.
Me and mynegbor was just talking about how high rats can jump last night and me and him got ALOT! of at our house INCLUDING field rats lol HAPPY RAT TRAP FRIDAY!
Breeding is easier great supply for cheap food 😋
Plop.
Is a mouse related to the Kangaroo
Great Test....
how to keep mouse shut...
You let the mice go ... No respect.
Anyboday know if Mouseblocker12v really works? Says it deters mice and rodents with sound? Sounds like a scam, Mr Woods have you tested this?
Maybe you should have tried 16 and 1/2 inches
It would have been easier to just put some blocking in the bottom instead of cutting it down
My house mice can't jump that high, they are too fat :D
You have to fill the bucket with water. There aren't many humane ways to trap those critters.
What about a cat!!!
What about rats?
Just put water in it. Lol
Without the copyright ID system giving your money to Sony automatically, you could have played *Van Halen - Jump* to make us feel how high those critters fly.
😆
