cut a soda bottle in half, flip the top so its a downward facing funnel and secure it with some tape. then fill the bottom with some fruit juice and add a drop of dishsoap. i already caught hundreds of wasps with that easy trap. it takes 20 seconds to make and works really well to reduce numbers.

I started using the Rescue sticky paper trap last year. I am trying to figure out why they stopped working after a few months. It is still very sticky so anything that flies into it is doomed. I think that possibly the reason is because there are so many insects covering the pattern that the pattern is no longer very visible. Yes, it worked, but I discovered but be careful where you put it as I had trapped a small lizard 😞 So, this is why you probably want to suspend them in the air. I had paper wasps, and was stung 3 times prior to getting these traps. One sting was in January! (I live in Texas). Just discovered in one of them a mud dauber made a nest inside the trap! Main drawback, they are quite expensive for apparently short use.

You know what I have found to be the best yellow jacket trap? The trap that costs the least amount of money is the best type. All I do is fill up a bird bath with water and a small amount of dish detergent to break the water tension. Then I take one piece of wood to go across the top of it. I make sure the water is filled up to slightly below the wood. I then place cat food on the bottom of the piece of wood and just a small amount on top. I have caught hundreds of them that way and it costs little to nothing. I don't have extra money to be spending on anything, especially when the cheapest solution works fine and dandy.

You should of had them all separated by their self to better see which ones attracted the most, because with that one being sticky who's to know that they were intentionally attracted to that one, they could of be smelling the other ones and end up accidentally getting stuck on the sticky one. But anyways Im sure having them separated it would of shown more sensible stats and to find out which one actually is the best

I have been on "Team Sticky Trap" since one summer when I was living in the basement of a building. My abode got infested with yellow jackets (I never did find the nest) and I was constantly getting stung. My solution was to buy several strands of fly paper and hang them up next to every light source in that basement. I didn't keep an exact count, but I know that I caught several hundred of them that way. I was still living there the following year and never saw a yellow jacket indoors the whole time. I'm not sure if the traps depopulated the nest enough to wipe it out completely, or if someone else found it and dealt with it.

Something I'd love to see would be a video on effective mosquito traps - I can't go outside when I visit my parents without getting swarmed within minutes. Hunting for breeding sites would require peeking over fences, and even then, the invasive mosquitos will breed in even the smallest amount of water, so eliminating breeding sites is probably impossible. I've seen several trap options on the market, and I'd love to see a comparison of them like this.

I had good luck with that Rescue funnel trap last year but this year the yellow jackets don't seem to find the entrances at the bottom. And when they do, many of them actually find their way out of the funnel. I've watched it in amazement. Thanks for another great video. Cheers.

    Hi Shawn,
Thanks for this review. We ran one of those funnel traps this summer, using the same grape jelly as in our Oriole feeders. They really go for the jelly here in N PA, and it caught a lot of them. Once I realized their nest was deep inside our house soffit, I ran - and still have been running - a shop vac at the entrance to catch them. It now has thousands of dead ones in it. I spray a detergent solution into the vac before turning it off for the night. I'm seeing very few going in and out of the soffit now, thank goodness. But they apparently multiply like rabbits!
    Thanks again!

IMO there were 4 different traps working at the same time with 4 different baits. The least attractive baits had zero counts is common. But it does not mean it didn't work.
To be fair, I think you should give the Stingstop another try alone. It may not be efficient, but failed to work is an issue on another level.

Japanese bee keepers use glue traps to stop the giant hornets from killing their bees. One flies on the trap and gets stuck then it releases an attack pheromone so then the others are attracted like magnets and they all get stuck. I’m sure that using a glue trap on a wasp nest would be the most effective.

I have been using the yellow funnel trap for years, I buy the new bait each year. I have found that the bait isn't catching as many bees. So, this year I found yellow jackets around our bird bath, so I went out and swatted about 10 to 12 yellow jackets from my bird bath. And used them for my bait. I have emptied my trap about 8 times in the last 8 weeks. I filled my trap (with bees crawling back out the funnel) in three days, using yellow jackets as bait.

We’ve had mud daubers and small paper wasp nests just inches from our front and back doors that opened and slammed closed day and night, and they never bothered anyone in the family, adult or child.
Meanwhile they’ll scrape your garden clean of aphids, caterpillars, and spiders (sorry spiders).
