    A tip for slime-line handling. I bought my Southerly 38 in Greece (now based in Sovereign Harbour...) and it came with a special boat hook for picking up slime-lines and taking them forwards to the bow without having to handle the line. It is simply a length of stainless steel rod about 400mm long and bent through about 135 degrees attached to an ordinary boat hook handle. One does of course have to handle the line while making it fast to a cleat, but contact with the line is minimised. While on boat hooks, I thoroughly recommend the telescopic Hook & Moor boat hook which enables the user to pass a line through the eye on a buoy and bring it back to oneself - a great bit of kit!
    Much enjoying your mix of sailing, technical advice and travel documentary reporting.

    Anchor away from gulets or any local commercial boats. They are allowed to dump their tanks anytime. I was downwind early one morning about to go for a swiim and a gulet upwind dumped their tank and the stuff was all around my aft swim ladder clinging to it. I waited many hours until it was all gone.

    Thank you again for another great video. Excellent work! Steve, if there is an alternate universe of an underwater marine version of UA-cam, no doubt you'll be an absolute hero among fish! I can imagine titles like "Kind man feeds us bread in winter", "Hero with a massive tackle box only for show", "The only sailor who remains murder-free". I really enjoy watching you fumble with the fishing lines and hooks baits and things! You're an expert with tools, brushes, engines, knots, electronics, sails and everything else on a boat, but when the tackle box comes out, your hands just take on a mind of their own and almost deliberately find ways to be kind to marine life. Well done, from one fish-saver to another!

Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures in the coming months. Kudos to Steve for being so cool on the shakedown; nothing seems to phase or upset you. You think that’s a small space you want to try working in an engine room on a much smaller boat. I can just about get access to the side of the engine squashed flat between the rear birth and headlining. On my Southerly 95. Keep up the good work, always enjoy your videos. Having been an avid UA-cam sailing channel follower since 2018 when I was laid up on the settee for over 3 months I have become very discerning on what I watch now. Some have become very gimmicky, full of promotions and all about themselves. Your Channel has always remaining informative, non pretentious, and very objective when giving account of equipment you have bought. Keep up the good work.

    Get you Judy, "Blowing a Hoollie" , you`ll be swearing like a three-badge stoker next!
    Ref the blue card/ blackwater issue, in the early stages of large construction projects there are often no mains sewer connections. A bank of porta-loos with storage tanks is the way to go and the guys who come to site and empty these are known as the Poo Fairys !
    Be interesting to see what your recharge time is with the lithiums, are they charged off the engine alternator besides your solar and what are you using for an invertor for shore power?
    Fair winds guys xx

    • @svfairisle
      @svfairisle  2 роки тому +1

      Ha! Yes well there’s not a chance that all the boats in the Turkish Aegean are coming into a marina every time they need to empty the black water tanks either so I think there might be a touch of the pool fairies there too! On the lithium there will be a mind numbingly detailed tech video I feel!

    • @bertmacdonald337
      @bertmacdonald337 2 роки тому +1

      @@svfairisle Steve, to anyone interested , it won`t be mind numbing at all!
      The solutions in a marine environment are strikingly similar to the extreme off-roading environment we have here in Western Australia where vehicles can be very remote for days or weeks at a time. The components may have different names but they carry out the same functions. This tech is brand new, ten years ago most of it didn`t exist. As we know, leading edge tech of today will be commonplace tomorrow. Look at satnav in cars, for instance. Check out the HH 44 . The electrical system in that boat will be commonplace in five years.
      I look forward to your install video with interest mate.

    • @svfairisle
      @svfairisle  2 роки тому

      I’ve no idea to be honest, I will ask someone. I assume you usually have to dispose of composted material our at sea when it gets too much? So that wouldn’t be allowed in Turkish waters. But from what we can see it seems people do pump out off shore. I very much doubt if there is an official way of logging you have disposed of the waste on shore even if there was somewhere to do it, I may be wrong.

      I think you're probably talking about the the circular stainless steel tubes which are for the hoisting arm. It can slot out of one side and go to the other if you need it there. We used it when we had the petrol outboard, but we don't need it to lift our electric outboard as it's so light.
