Love your channel - and the mega compilations that let me catch up on years past. Your boat is one of the most beautiful, especially as a blue water cruiser for two.
We met Ralph & Jeanette in Barcelona, what a lovely couple. Hope to see them at the Cup races this week. Believe Eric gave a tutorial of the E propulsion light weight some months ago. A REAL GAME CHANGER, so light!
I laughed seeing you dinghy past my friend's boat, the marina's dock queen. Will have to introduce you at the boat show (I always seem to run into you somewhere). Safe travels to Annapolis!
Another terrific episode. Thanks! But you really caught me out, right at the start, when I looked away for a moment and heard this Cockney rant coming from my desktop. Interesting, I thought. Sounds like Fair Isle's got a new crew member . . . 😂🤣😂
Hello Steve and Judy, Many thanks for taking the time and putting the effort to produce this entertaining, informative and well-crafted video. Always a treat! In the Balearics, we are facing a variation of the “dust problem”… it is the RED rain and wind that often blows from the Sahara (Africa). Cleaning the solid surfaces inside the boat, while time consuming, is straightforward. Did you find any efficient and effective way to clean your saloon’s fabric surfaces? A special vacuum cleaner perhaps?
The eLite is a clever design. The rudder IS the battery pack. Should be fine for light use and/or a small enough boat. Regarding the power of electric propulsion, electric motors are highly efficient and have lots of torque and power per weight and volume; far more than combustion engines. It's the batteries that have most of the volume and weight, BUT their capacity is also improving constantly as is their cost. This is largely driven by the massive growth of electric (road) vehicles.
The Spirit is a great outboard. We've just tested the eLite as well , the videos is on the Patron site and will be released soon. It's a surprisingly good option for a small dinghy.
S&J most cruiser's throw bow and or stern lines to dock helpers. Then quite often the either end blows off the dock and you dangle perpendicular to the dock. Using a midships line solves all of that. I welded up a rebar grappling hook for docks that have a rail. If nothing on the opposite side of the dock I just throw it over into the water. It always hooks.
Hi Another great video Very interested on your flexible panels, I remember you had spare connectors for your panels? Is that how they connect to the MPPT ? I would like to use a mix of fixed and temporary panels
All the solar panels tend to come with MP4 connectors I could plug them into the boats MPPTs using the serial or parallel connectors I have but actually I tend to use them to charge the Ecoflow units, they all come with MP4 - XT60 leads and the packs like the delta and max and the Glacier (fridge) and wave (air con) all charge from their xt60 and have in built MPPTs
As someone that has never sailed but seen the trials and tribulations on checking in within the med and Caribbean, also considering the Schengen shuffle….what happens if you just ‘forget’ to check in to a few places your anchoring in different places. Is there a risk / reward to it?
Curious about your anchor roller setup. Did you have it fabricated? I need some form of articulated setup to aid with deployment and retrieval. Have a Mantus with a long shank that gets hung up on the bottom of the furling drum. In Trinidad now so hoping to take care of this project here. Any relevant info world be appreciated. Cheers!
The system is as designed by HC (although they are all different) Obviously to have this sort of set up you need a bow sprit. It does really aid the anchors deployment and retrieval having the twin rollers pivoted from above as the whole section can swing to allow the anchor shaft an easy angle on and off the rollers. The rollers themselves as Judy said, we had manufactured in Turkey they have two slots cut into them to match our 10mm chain and it works well as the guid the chain through and dont let any twists go down the the chain locker.
@svfairisle I had the 220w and the 160 w. The 220 I did try and use underway and leaned on it and created some cracks. The most it would then output was about 50w. The 160w was treated like a child but the output dropped to about 30w max. No visible damage or wear and no "accidents" occurred with it. Potential for a warranty claim but bought in France & I'm rapidly making way...
@@DrewsSoloWorldSail Yes the 220w bifacial is certainly fragile with the glass back, I’ll be careful with that one. The 400w panel looks & feels indestructible though, we will see!
😂. I agree that the twenty somethings are impressive young people! Better than we were at their age. They have it all and let’s hope their moral compass comes from old hippies
How do you reconcile your efforts to protect the environment and the use of 2 stroke engines which are prohibited in most of the world because of their toxic exhaust pumped into the ocean?
Hi Skipper. ¿Do you want to give a beautiful clean to the entire interior teak with a welcoming aroma? Well, you go to the supermarket and buy Blem Spray Cleaner with CERAMIDES and with a flannel just to rub it and the wonder happens. To disinfect, the best is LYSOFORM in aerosol. ✨ P.S. With that stainless steel lure you are only doing the entire Caribbean a favor by fishing for the damn Barracudas, which ARE INEDIBLE due to the danger of poisoning. You even have a submarine Toy on board, but you don't have a pressure washer to clean the chain and anchor and it will help you deeply clean the ENTIRE boat, even the sails (in the middle distance) with the splash of water. IT DOES NOT WORK. ¿Didn't you want WIND? well you have a lot of Wind, so why are you complaining? Elemental Sir. Watson
Thanks for the cleaning advice, I’ll see if we can find some. I have switched to the squid lures and a special one that the guy that runs the marina recommends, he also said the Rapelas were liable to catch barracuda, but they do actually eat them here. And with the wind, yes be careful what you wish for, it’s amazing how unpleasant it is to be in a constant howling gale at anchor
@@svfairisleA while ago I had sent you an email and told you here that you should look at the lures that have a LONG tongue, this makes them go down up to 15 feet, they are deep. Another thing, in the Caribbean except in the GULFS which only CUBA has, you are going to catch that filthy Barracuda fish. Can they be eaten? Yes, the problem is that if it is contaminated with sigüatera and you do not recognize it, YOU WILL GET SICK and I assure you that if you catch that disease, an appendix on your body will be SSPM. It's only good for pissing. Trust me, it is preferable to fish a good GROUPER or RED SNAPER with a silver hook (money).

Liked the interview. A few new toys to install and play with.
We met Ralph and Jeanette in the mid 90’s in Portugal and last saw them in London. We would love to get back in touch. Craig & Elise.

Check in woes disappear once you get to the French islands - also great food
So looking forward to it!
Well done, as usual. What's your verdict on the 400W Ecoflow panel after using it for some time now?
Well it’s not been long enough to tell how robust it’s going to be, but it certainly lives up to its promise of power delivery
As someone that has never sailed but seen the trials and tribulations on checking in within the med and Caribbean, also considering the Schengen shuffle….what happens if you just ‘forget’ to check in to a few places your anchoring in different places. Is there a risk / reward to it?
