Yes, the “room” where the light won’t find you is a bomb shelter and the “light” is the initial flash of a nuclear bomb that incinerates everything in its path. Even if you evade that the shock wave will make the wall come tumbling down. I didn’t really listen closely to that part and fugue it out until a few years ago and to be honest in grateful. I was way more aware than most kids if the danger we all faced and I even had nuke nightmares for about a year.
This is poster child of 80s pop music. It’s such an iconic representation of music of the mid 80s and one of the best as well, it was a smash on US Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, hitting #1 in June 1985. Tears For Fears had a huge hit with the album “Songs From The Big Chair” (hit #1 in the US album chart) which includes this track as well as “Shout” which was also a #1 hit in the U.S.The dinosaur in the video is off the 10 Freeway in Cabazon California (just outside Palm Springs) and yes, it was in the Pee Wee movie. This song was originally titled “Everybody Wants To Go To War” and it’s a statement about the Cold War which was still prevalent at that time. There is another song from the same album which has a really good video as well and I think you guys would enjoy reacting to it. It’s called “Head Over Heels”. My personal fave off the “Songs From The Big Chair” album.
This was played during the exploding popcorn house scene at the end of Real Genius! One of my top three movies of all time, starring Val Kilmer. If you haven’t seen it, take the time.
This was a song from their album “Songs from the Big Chair”. It has been featured in a few movies such as Pixels. Their songs “Shout”, “ Head Over Heels” and “Sowing the Seeds of Love” are all great. One of the best duos from the 80’s.
I always remember this song coming in at the end of the movie "Real Genius" with Val Kilmer. Song is so iconic though, I'm sure it's been covered or added to other soundtracks. However, Gary Jules' cover of their song Mad World from the movie Donnie Darko was pretty popular in and of itself.
The band took the name from a type of therapy called primal therapy. Another song by them called " Shout " is about part of that therapy called primal scream therapy. The 2 core members of the band you saw singing in the video both had similar tough upbringings & both became fans of that type of therapy treatment. One of the best bands to come out of the 80's if not ever.
I love this song! It was a huge hit for a Tears for Fears in the eighties so it’s probably been in a lot of movies! They are a British band who had a string of hits in that decade! For me, this song is simple about living in a world full of people who want power but he and his partner are doing going against that life to live free! That’s what driving with the top down symbolizes to me’❤️❤️
This song has been everywhere over the years... Tears for Fears had a small run of success ...but everyone knows the songs when they hear them... and I do remember when gas was $0.89 and $0.99 cents a gallon & a pack of cigarettes was less than a dollar...
Where are all the folks who said “ain’t no way I’m gonna pay $2.00 for a pack of smokes!!”. If they’re still alive and still smoking I bet they’re paying more than $6.00. 1975 we were paying $.50 for gas
I can do one better...gas at 25 cents a gallon. And the stores called Five and Dime sold things for 5 and 10 cents. And the phone booths. Those were life lines before mobile phones, which came in the 80s.
The 80's truly had some of the catchiest music. 80's pop, synth, and metal were probably the height of popular music in terms of quality. If you like that synth sound, I highly recommend listening to some synthwave/chillwave, it puts me right back in my childhood bedroom playin Metroid on my tiny ass tv when I was a kid lol
This song was also in the movie “Sky High” in addition to “Real Genius.” Songs From the Big Chair was an amazing album. Takes me back to my teen years.
Its lyrics were about the thirst for power and its consequences, with intimations of what was seen by many at the time as the imminent threat of global nuclear war.
One of the best bands of the 80's and 90's. You could do a weeks worth of videos from their "Songs From The Big Chair". Head Over Heels, Sowing the Seeds of Love, Mad World, Mothers Talk....the list goes on forever.
"Everybody Wants To Rule The World" Welcome to your life There's no turning back Even while we sleep We will find you Acting on your best behaviour Turn your back on mother nature Everybody wants to rule the world It's my own design It's my own remorse Help me to decide Help me make the most Of freedom and of pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world There's a room where the light won't find you Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down When they do I'll be right behind you So glad we've almost made it So sad they had to fade it Everybody wants to rule the world I can't stand this indecision Married with a lack of vision Everybody wants to rule the world Say that you'll never never never never need it One headline why believe it? Everybody wants to rule the world All for freedom and for pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world
This was always a fave pop song. I remember my Dad driving back and forth across OKC to keep from paying 24¢/gal. That's right, because he'd seen a sign on the outskirts for 21 cents a gallon, and was willing to drive 5 miles back to fill up there on a long trip!
Considering how much you guys laughed about Johnny Cash's "One Piece At a Time" - I think you might get a good chuckle over Aaron Tippin's "Ain't Nothing Wrong With the Radio"
The song's lyrics detail the desire humans have for control and power.[23][24] In 2017, Tal Rosenberg of Pitchfork stated that its lyrics could be applied in different scenarios such as the environment ("Turn your back on mother nature"), short-lived financial success ("Help me make the most of freedom and of pleasure/Nothing ever lasts forever"), dictatorial rule ("Even while we sleep/We will find you"), and the Cold War ("Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down").[1] The song's lyrics have elicited different political interpretations. The Economist writer K.Y.W. called the track a Cold War anthem and noted its timeless message, stating that "the song's lyrics speak to the anxieties of every age."[25] Marc Ambinder from The Atlantic used the lyrics "Say that you'll never, never, never need it / One headline, why believe it? / Everybody wants to rule the world" in his article about the United States government's use of "original classified authority" and the abuse of power between the branches of government.[26] Dominic Pino of National Review described the track as a "conservative pop song", noting the lyrics' tension between "personal ambition" and "channeling that personal ambition to good ends", comparing these themes to James Madison's concerns about private interest in the Federalist Papers[27] (this interpretation garnered ridicule from fans and was also refuted by Curt Smith.[28]) Tears for Fears revisited the song and its message in an interview with Yahoo! Music, stating that the song's themes were still "just as poignant" as they were when they first wrote it.[29] They mentioned that they discussed the Cold War with "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" and Songs from the Big Chair but that was the "U.S. and Russia then, and now the concern is more with the U.S. and [North] Korea."[29]
This song sounds happy, but the lyrics are actually pretty dark, talking about power and greed. The original title was 'Everybody Wants to go to War.' However, the producer thought the song sounded like a "drive at 5" type of song, which is why there is so much focus on driving in the video. But the lyrics are much more serious. Tears for Fears is a duo: The bass player and lead singer of this song (Curt Smith) and the guitarist and other lead singer and songwriter (Roland Orzabal). They broke up for about 10 years in the 1990s and reunited in 2000. They still tour today, and have a new album completed (apparently); their first since 2004. Another great song by them you may want to react to in the future is 'Sowing the Seeds of Love.'
This song embodies the feeling of freedom. Love listening to it with the windows down and shades on cruising down a scenic highway just soaking in the moment. It's a whole vibe 😎
The band's name was inspired by primal therapy, developed by the American psychologist Arthur Janov, which gained tremendous publicity after John Lennon became Janov's patient in 1970.
SPRING BREAK, PALM SPRINGS CALIF. 1989 w/ my girls...!!!! We played played TTF all the way there. Thank God.... what happened in Palm Springs, STAYED in Palm Springs!!! (YES! the entire cd is road trip material... !!!!)
This song came out during a very tense period during the Cold War and we even had 2 near misses about a year and a half earlier in the fall of 1983(this song came out in June of 1985). This song reflects the time we were living in when things could end at a moments notice. We still have nukes but back then both the US and USSR had tens of thousands pointed at each other. Listen to the part that begins at 4:40. The “room” where the light won’t find you is a nuclear bomb shelter and “the light” is the initial flash from a nuclear bomb that vaporizes everything within so many miles. “The walls come crumbling down” is describing the shock wave that comes after the initial blast of heat. The song is about enjoying life while you can and living in the moment because it could all end in the blink of an eye. I was 13 when this song came out and we didn’t know it yet but the Cold War would end just 6 years later.
This song still played in department and grocery stores, fantastic. Became an international rock pop song 🎵 thats stiil.popular and meaningful then and today. Fantastic! Lol.

Tears for fears are from bath England a historic southern city with Roman spa baths and fab architecture in 1981 I think they were school friends curt Smith the guy in the car and Roland orzabal the guitarist.they used this song for sport aid in the 80's but changed it to run the world.please check mad world, shout, head over heels.
I take the meaning of the lyrics as everybody wanting it all, when "it all" is meaningless, and everybody wanting power when that power is shallow and useless...all instead of just living in the fullness of the moment.
The Dinosaur looks familiar since it was in Pee's Big Adventure, one of my favorites from my youth. The location itself is Cabazon Dinosaurs - World's Biggest Dinosaurs which is off I-10 on one's way from LA to Palm Springs.
This song was in a movie called "Real Genuis," with Val Kilmer. It is about students who attend a college for gifted students studying science. Val Kilmer's character created a death ray without knowing he did because his professor wanted him to do it in return for an internship. Once he did, the professor stole his invention and sold it to NASA. I always thought the song was about someone who is so addicted to power and prestige that they would steal someone's ideas just to obtain it.
Bumble Bee movie had this song playing in movie. Great song!!! Cause it is so true at this time!! Plus another great song called Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton is great one too!! Love you guys!!
Hey love the channel. This track is one of my go to 80s tracks, along with Pride (In the name of love) by U2 and The Whole of the Moon by the Waterboys. Love to see you react to those. Also, Paul Hardcastle 19, A song and video that pulled no punches and really made my 1985 self stop and think.
This song was originally called "everybody wants to go to war"...but the band sang it after every studio session and they ended up changing the name...it is about war
He said All for freedom And for pleasure Nothing ever lasts forever Everybody wants to rule the world. It was said that one of the two lead singers, either Curt Smith or Roland Orazabal was reading a Psychology book and i think there was a phrase or something that said one has got got exchange the tears for something that one is afraid of ( the fear) and thus..the name of the group... TEARS FOR FEARS For those of you who are reading this....i didn't google it. I remembered that's how the story went but you're free to correct me if i have the story wrong. It's all good though. Just don't come up with something like, You've got the story wrong. ( hey...i am 50 years old. The memory isn't as sharp as it was...🤣🤣🤣)
The dinosaurs were propped up by the Morongo Casino. Behind the gas station. They used to give at or where you can go up and sit in the mouth. I haven't driven by there and decades though. Not sure if they're still there
Other songs from Tears for Fears that you should react to: Shout, Year of the knife, Advice for the young at heart, sowing the seeds of love, woman in chains, head over heels.
When this song came out was in the middle of the cold war 1985. The song's lyrics detail the desire humans have for control and power.
Yep, not much has changed.
and Freedom is the more important than control. Everyone in the world wants to be Free.
Girl, your smile is wonderful! Read the lyrics and you'll see. This is about detaching from the fame and money game.

I was going to comment the same! 😁
Loved that movie!!
Love Real Genius!
Girls gotta have her standards!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Songs from the big chair was their best album BUT the sowing the seeds of love album is right up there with that one…..GREAT SONGS AND GREAT MEMORIES.
Still going strong today
@@AnthonySipes Real Genius was probably the first film this song was featured in...
@@cwell510 yes I believe that's correct

Which has a long told theory about that.

"Everybody Wants To Rule The World"
Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world
It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you
So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
What is Communism.

That Dinosaur is in Cabazon CA. A small town, right next to where I stay. Just look up "Cabazon Dinosaurs" and it should come up.
The song was in the movie Real Genius with Val Kilmer
He said
All for freedom
And for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world.
It was said that one of the two lead singers, either Curt Smith or Roland Orazabal was reading a Psychology book and i think there was a phrase or something that said one has got got exchange the tears for something that one is afraid of ( the fear) and thus..the name of the group...
TEARS FOR FEARS
For those of you who are reading this....i didn't google it. I remembered that's how the story went but you're free to correct me if i have the story wrong. It's all good though. Just don't come up with something like, You've got the story wrong. ( hey...i am 50 years old. The memory isn't as sharp as it was...🤣🤣🤣)
That area with the dinosaurs is by Riverside in California! I grew up around there in the 90's :)
It's featured in the movie REAL GENIUS!
This song played in the NWA Compton movie in the scene where they introduce Ice Cube.
This song is just pure nostalgia 80s gold
Hi, you lovely couple. This tune was used in the film Real Genius in 1985. Val Kilmer was the leading actor.
Most insightful interpretation on first sight i have seen by far. I have subscribed and am now a fan
The diner with the big dinosaur I believe was in a little movie called Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
One of my all time favourites....great to drive to....
The dinosaurs were propped up by the Morongo Casino. Behind the gas station.
They used to give at or where you can go up and sit in the mouth.
I haven't driven by there and decades though. Not sure if they're still there
